Dumb answer, of course it wouldn't be - that would mean you hadn't stole the game first
U would be impressed how many people download cracked before paying for the game
No, I wouldn't
Idc if ur an admin or jot but ur answer was rude as fuck
You steal the game and come to the official discord server wanting support on how to get that data to a legit version.
Next time think before you post.
This is not about those people.
As for rudeness, most people consider stealing rude.
Now, you got your help anyways, I'd let it go if I was you
?
Let me tell you, if I was playing under the 2hour refund from steam I woulda refunded immediately because in the first 2 hours the game was shit
Hi! My gf and I are about to play nms for the first time.
I'm usually a heavy game modder and I have bad ADHD so i usually don't replay a game enough to do a vanilla run and then mod.
I've heard a lot of things about this game good and bad.
But to decide how to approach my play which I'll assume will be the only playthrough with the chance of another in the future if we enjoy it, i have a few questions.
-
I see people say the planets are very samey but some say that was fixed. What do you think? Is it varied enough or should I get something like project Atlas from the get go?
-
Same on creatures. I saw a creatures variety mod that looks interesting. I heard the vanilla creatures are more of an after thought. Is that true?
-
Any other mods you consider either essential, vast improvements to Qol, or otherwise highly improving the game so it's definitely worth it? Added note that we've played so many survival craft builders that the resource grind and inventory shuffle have lost their appeal so improving those is always good.
I would super appreciate your suggestions. Thank you.
- Planets are all generated from a limited number of assets - models for trees, rocks, grass, other flora, fauna and terrain features. After you play a while you will notice these features repeating on various planets but it ain't that bad like some folks claim
There are mods that affect planet generation resulting in more varied environments but due to the sheer scope they are a hassle to maintain throught game updates. You will be forced to remove said mod and wait for mod author to update it to new version of the game. IMO it's not worth it, especially if you plan on playing with other people - mods are only local, so you will end up with other terrain as other people in your session.
You mention some project Atlas mod, quick google fu shows it was released in 2019. That is a helluva old mod and is guaranteed NOT to work with current release of NMS. Any mod that was not updated for the current version of the game (v 4.45, Echoes update) is most likely to cause issues, from general gameplay issues to game crashing to desktop.
- Same answer as for planets, same warning for any mods you saw this far
I only mentioned project Atlas in passing. I know about having to use updated mods. It's just the two of us playing. Thanks for the info βΊοΈ
- Mods are highly subjective and NMS is kind of a niche game so there isn't really a compilation of must-have mods. Go to Nexus, sort by last updated and recently released and see what you find interesting.
Personally I can recommend Duds Sky Colors, a fresh coat of paint for the game, makes it look even better
FYI the file used for voxel/terrain gen has only changed once since 2016. Terrain (only) mods are very update resistant.
People like Lo2k, Gumsk, Lenni009 or lMonk offer stuff like QoL improvements or smaller bug fixes
Sean
As for resource grind, the vanilla game allows you to tune the difficulty settings for many aspects, no mod needed for that
Thanks very nice to know! I much appreciate the info
Been down for hours. They are doing a full rebuild. Will take some time.
i see
are there any other websites for mods?
I was hoping I could try modding the trails for my starship or jetpack or both
There are only other sites that steal mods and re-post them...along with "hot women in your area" links. Those will all be outdated. Nexus is the "real" site.
Site is back up now, but with caveats that some things still may not be working 100%. They're continuing to fix, into the wee morning hours for them (based out of the UK).
Also have a look at the Exosolar, Mjstral, and JustRuthless mods for some good appearance and QoL mods.
Can look through mods from this page: https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/newrecently?page=1#
Starts with newest\most recently updated and goes back in time from there. Past mid-August is where things start to get dicey, so look through what's there for the first 12 pages. Go through, jot down any that seem interesting to you, then can use that list for ones to try. π
There will be mods older than that that can still work fine, while there are others that had to be updated to latest hotfix patch, 4.45. Dependent on what changes HG has made to the applicable game files.
DUD'S SKY updated v445-C
(Fixed vanilla/HG bug that caused redundant lights to appear on companion robot models.)
(Fixed vanilla/HG bug that caused incorrect coloring of companion robot lights.)

Anyone have any highly recommended scanner improving mods?
gGame has scanner upgrades in the full version or a scanner only version
Thanks mate
ty, by chance do you know if there's one that shows the distance to target beneath the icons?
quick question why are there not a ton of mods for n man sky ? like minecraft
im a noob to the game and cant mod just want to know if its a programing issue or just not enough people doing it
I think there are couple of reasons
First of all, modding NMS is fairly limited. All we can do is to shuffle around some values in large data tables. There is no support for scripting, frameworks, real time runtimes
This limitation comes from how game handle it's files and there's nothing much to do about it
Secondly, simply because NMS is not a popular game compared to the likes of MC
Lower playerbase in general, pick some low % that wants to actually work on modding, from that pick some % of ideas that are even doable
For basic modding it's not related to some coding or programming, just understanding a kind of convoluted mess lol
so with a higher player base, mods could be a thing or the way the game is built its not doable
Not sure what you mean by "higher player base mod"
Thank you for taking the time to write out that explanation btw
"Make mod hard" is my answer
May a grey haired gamer ask a question of experienced modders please
Hey all, @oblique cloud is new to modding and save editing NMS, and is also very new to PC world. I humbly request fellow modders and members to guide them, if (and whenever) possible.
Yeah you can just ask questions straight away don't need to ask for permission beforehand
@timid burrow Cheers cobber
So go ahead
Im old. But have been gaming on xbox since 1st rendition. My current pc is a commodore 64 still on 128mg ram an rusted floppy disk. I am lookin at obtaining a new pc. Due to injury im currently couch bound. Spend way to many hours on xbox but i get to interact, learn an help out in return. My query is the ability for pc to mod xbox saves on games an also the coding behind all the bots an auto functions like used in this discord. Would learning this be difficult or just time an practice?
You can edit xbox saves via gamepass
Need to be more specific on what you want a bot to do for you for people to answer
Ive been told i need to download a nomnom programme. But do i need to pay dor another ultimate pass on my pc or can i use my existing xbox one. Once ive worked that out how do i pull the save file from an xbox an load it on pc? Or do i play my xbox save on the pc an it gives extra access into the file directory? The bot i think i have to learn the short key to how its called/used in chat. Like the modding is that simply a #then a name to utilise
Its not mod related but landy i am on xbox pc and i believe you just have to login with your id
Before save editing you can run the game and see if the cloud picks it up if i am not mistake
So its thru cloud gaming not download an play?
I dont have an xbox so i am not sure about that but I have noticed for this game so far is that sometimes when I am launching it; it asks me whether I want to run the game through a cloud save or the local save.
I still downloaded the game on my laptop before running it
I cpuld be totally out of context here as well
Ok cheers cobber appreciate the input. Will try it once ive got newer pc. Then i maybe back here askin questionnnmssss
I am interested to test it out as well so do let me know
@tame harness will do cobber
@oblique cloud @tame harness That interpretation is correct, Gamepass membership allows for cross-save play between both XB and PC - and yes, this does allow for save editing on PC and then playing edited save on XB through cloud sync. π
Thx for clearing it; i was 50/50 on it; when i first saw this message i figured xbox saves a game copy incase the user switches the device and they can still pick up where they left off
You basically need to load in to each save once on PC to create the data, then, using NomNom to edit saves, you literally only ever need to get to the title screen on PC to force cloud syncing, so you can play exclusively on XB and just do edits on PC XD
Modding is a thing with NMS. Hundreds of current and functional mods. We are limited as to what can be modded and how though. Could be many more mods current and available, but how many different inventory stack mods do you want, that all do the exact same thing. lol
I was thinking more along the line of gta rp where you can build a game from it for example build a mod that add a mmo aspect to it. With guilds that can go to war, systems owe by guild that have unique resources, and more. Let the community take over this sandbox they built
Is there a MOD to normalize inventory stacks? Example: Vault boxes stack food ingredients at 200, inventory is 100, ingredient storage is 50. Food is made in stacks of 100. I'd like to have it 200 across the board.
NomNom is useful for when you are a new player and missed out on all the previous expeditions. You can use NomNom to enable all of them. Really the fact this game can be modded in such a way is just so amazing and brilliant!
That kind of stuff can't be done currently, if ever
@spark plover NMSSE is the more popular choice, I was pointing out that in this specific case, NomNom is superior, because GoatFungus doesnt save changes so that they'll properly cloud sync. One must load into the game and save naturally before cloud sync will trigger.
I think it may just come downto the fact that NomNom updates the timestamp on whichever save youre editing to current, so that regardless of auto/restore itll be the one that loads automatically next session
By if ever do you mean modder and HG canβt do it ?
HG could theoretically do anything they want
@unique sundial There's only 1 modder who's messed with the .exe to add a truly "new" mechanic to the game, and it's far more minor than what youre proposing. Modding in NMS is basically confined to messing with the game's reference materials, all the values assigned to various things, etc.
Modders can't do that kind of stuff currently
If HG provide modding tools in the future, maybe near end of support, we might be able to do more
(Pretty sure Mjstral's seed viewer is a .exe hack, not actually 100% positive on that though)
That makes way more sense thanks answering my questions
There are two or three dll script hook type things in development
YW π
But they are slow going and I doubt there will be a ton of users of it. We'll just have to see who of the existing modders pick it up, what they can do, etc
We may not see what I want for years unless HG comes out with it first
@tame harness @oblique cloud
To save edit for gamepass, you install the game on your PC, load the game, copy a save from your gamepass cloud save, close the game, open NomNom (or GF NMSSE), choose the local copy of the save, make changes, play the game and save again to make sure it uploads to the cloud, then you can play on Xbox and copy from the cloud save to get the edited save onto your Xbox
I was honestly expecting end of support maybe later next year, but 2022 had more sales than 2021, and I think 2023 will have even more sales, so maybe not
I don't think they'll release any modding tools until they are almost done with their own development
Hope they done sooner than later because the possibilities are insane
Imagine having a home system with unique weapons and ship to protect. Going to war with other guilds to take other planet with resources or even controlling 100s of planets has a huge guild. NMS would be the only game I play lol
Eve Online
@night adder @vale iron cheers guys appreciate the info. Will follow up more with u in next week or so once pc shows up if thats ok?
@oblique cloud Make sure to follow the contact instructions on my card very carefully π
Will do Sir@night adder
Just ping if you need me
I just like using my card that way as a joke to let people know they can contact how/whenever they'd like, lol
I like it
"Follow contact intructions carefully; DMs always open"
It's like saying 'ring the doorbell before you enter' and when you show up there's just hanging beads, no door, let alone a bell. π
hah, yeah, I noticed that. Be VERY careful...anything works
@night adder like dealing with the old magisrate over here. Every time i needed to get a warrant or summons signed she made us rock up with bottle of coke an a mars bar!!
lol, nice
The 'very' had me lookin for hint an clue to a secret code
Excellent, because the only thing better than an open, friendly instruction is when its recipient assumes it cant just be that simple - then it's both friendly and trolling XD
(Hulk Hogan voice)
IM TROLLING YOU WITH FRIENDSHIP β¦..RAAAAWR YEAH!
Do you know how large I can mod my base parts to be in order for them to still be visible and uploadable to players without mods?
like there are different size mods i can choose from to install. i just dont know what the limit is. From joan's builds and experience it seems like the sky is the limit
but on the mods description it seems less like that
@karmic jacinth Whether theyre visible isnt a direct function of how large an object is scaled. The loading/rendering distance limits for objects are intrinsic to the game, set up based on strict distance-to-centerpoint - scaling up an object doesnt alter that distance, so you hit a size not too much more than max vanilla where placed objects are "capped" by the desire for them to remain visible within the build area.
The exception to this is prefabs - they follow slightly different rules, mainly that while a player is inside, the walls are forced to render regardless of distance, hence posts you see where its mainly Biodomes/Cuboids/other Prefabs that have been superscaled to build within.
I see
I will be back shortly to read and respond to everything you type, its therapy o clock.
their draw distance is based on closest point-to-player, so they render in better from outside as well - but thats not saying much, if you arrive from space and blast straight down at it, even with a high-end PC, you can generally make it inside a superscaled dome before it renders in to stop you.
(Personally, that's a pro, but for builders focusing on immersion, tends to be a con lol)
New mod released: https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/2910
@timid burrow fancy a bonk stick in new colours ? ^^
Ohh
Interesting
Oh this is actually interesting, and a major feat in modding @fresh arch
The colors follow the same rule as pet color?
No idea
There is just a flag "Include In Seed"
No idea how it actually affects the colours
I mean I constructed 2 staves with that and my PC did not implode
... this time
So I guess it's working enough
Hahahaha! Gotcha,
These substances, they are materials like chromatic metal, activated indium etc, correct? Like gene sequencing stuff.
50 substances
Stellar metals, chromatic metal, biome terrain resources, tainted metal, void motes, etc
Nice
Just not junk like rusted metal or living slime and it's derivatives
I see. Alright, I'm gonna test some staves and substances soon. Thank you so much for making the mod. π
Friend entity @night adder you may be interested in this. (scroll up a little).
God enitty DHW knows about this, at least partially
FriendlyFire actually takes me up on my open DMs policy when he's curious about a project he's thinking of/has already begun. π I'd like to think I've saved him at least a couple hours' work already, and increasing. XD
Anyone got Cheetos? βοΈ
Any inventory management QoL mods?
Maybe ik nexus makes good mods
There are no mods for that
Mods can not add new functionality to the game, only shuffle around existing bits of code
There is one "thing" that involves running a 3rd party app to modify your saves constantly but
I dunno it feels weird to me and I doubt you are gonna get any support if that shit breaks
Just being curious, since module stats on instal have a fixed seed order would it be possible to make something that can read the current seeds and display the results?
@night plover That fixed seed order doesnt use upgrade seeds in sequence, someone would need to figure out how a player's tech install count is keyed to which upgrade seed received..... and then check whether that same transformation applies to all tech + class combos
That's something I had the idea to try, but I'm no mathematician, so when none of the online sequence decoders I could find could crack that transformation, I put it aside lol.
What folder should I copy these two files to to speed up fegad expeditions and village construction? They have a total of 10kb https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/2077?tab=description

Is there a mod that allows me to get unavailable items like photonix core?
@austere haven Consumerism iirc
ok thanks
Project Apollo also let's you get those blueprints but it would require some more work compared to Consumerism
@ashen ruin it's doable but unpractical to say the least
Since all the thumbnails use the same model, you gotta think where to place the extra icons
3 icons for system stats (race, conflict, econ), 3 icons for potential missions taking place in that system, 1 icon for destination type (station / freighter / base), 1 type for pirate overwrite, etc
And to have slimmer bars to fit more of them, all the info inside of them would be barely readable
So IMO not worth the endevour
doh
Almost nothing UI change related is worth it. Ridiculous amounts of trial and error work for something that will never bee 100% how you envisioned.
yeah I only change what's strictly necessary
Just too many "gotchas" involved
and even then the game's often at its limit and it shits itself in other ways after you've done that
Anyone know of a mod that shortens how long or removes those on screen messages such as the ones that appear when you exit the ship on a planet?
https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/1628 this one maybe?
One of them I tried and didn't work but "No Milestone Notifications" worked, just tried it
If mods are conflicting with each other, the loosing mod will not have its effects in game
yea deleted first
fyi for anyone needing it: "no lag leaving planet redux" fixes the planet exit stutter
(older ones don't work)
Any mod that was not updated to latest game version is most probably not gonna work
Or cause gameplay isses or straight up crashes to desktop
Only rely on mods that were updated / released for latest game version
FYI, recommended to use the DIY edition, https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/2812 , to regenerate the .pak locally, as the .pak version on Nexus isn't updated too often.
hello, so is there anyway to get expedition rewards that I haven't completed?

In general Lo2k has a great collection of small QoL mods
Highly recommend checking their page: https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/880
Hi! Hoping for some help, well, for someone to make a mod really!
I would really like to not have any graphics flashing during warps. I'm so sure I used to have a mod that would stop warp graphics (I think it did all the things, speed lines, space "dust" and so on - might be misremembering though!)
I don't know if it's possible to do, but worth an ask!
Thanks!
https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/2886?tab=images
Just saw this mod, never knew I needed something so much until I saw the freighter with an entire city on it. I want that in the official game asap now Haha
Hah, Winder makes amazing stuff, and this is an adaptation of an old amazing mod by MsrSgtShooterPerson (no longer active). Definitely worthwhile and noteworthy
Is anyone willing to give me some pointers I'm trying to change a texture, I've edited the DDS and changed the texture line in the mbin to point to it, what else do I need to do to get the texture to appear in game, I have packed the mbin and DDS file and put it in the mods folder am I missing files lol, Tia total nube at this lol
If it's a texture replacement you don't necesarilly need to edit the path in MBIN for it
You can just "mirror" the path and file name of the original texture file and it should work
Remember that in order for textures to work, the .DDS extension must be capitalized
And that you should use the same compression as the original texture (BC1/3/7)
You can use the texdiag app to analyze the original texture to learn what compression method to use: https://github.com/Microsoft/DirectXTex/wiki/Texdiag
Thanks I'll give it a look π
Hello. I have since Echoes update a lot of graphical loading issues. For example when I reload in a space station the textures take at least 10-20 seconds to load and the ships when they enter and land are mostly just exhaust trails and sometime a bit of a hull. I have to pause in photo mode for a minute or more, waiting for the parts to load. The NPC textures load in parallel as well and they are not good looking. Same when arriving on a planet, the trade station would only have the beacon, and the planet is just a basic shape of hills without anything in it. Same I need to wait in photo mode until stuff loads. This was I traduced with Echoes and I didnβt have this problem before. No hardware change at all. Any mod to fix that?
You can submit bug reports, suggestions or feedback to Hello Games here: https://hellogames.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
is there a mod that adds a quick way to change between 1st and 3rd person? especially in ships
Just put a shortcut on the action. No need for a mod. On PC ctl+# to set it then # to use (# is a number)
Thanks. I have reported it to HG already π
is there a shortcut for controller or is it keyboard only
Probably KB only, unless your controller has a button that can be mapped to the CTRL key and a numberpad. MIGHT be able to map via the Steam controller overlay, but not sure.
Yes, exactly that. None of your other stuff is any good π
Correct. None good, all GREAT! π
Damnit Babs, he and I were having a shared moment of animosity and you had to go and ruin it with your truth
For the record:
Winder, I second Gumsk and agree everything you have ever done sucks. I also agree with some of the other things Gumsk has been saying about you, but I wouldnβt worry about that.
I promise everything else I have said has been similarly bad /s
This is mind blowing!
Are the frigates modded as well? Cannot tell for sure
The images are tiny on my phone
And last question: how do you use the parameter for default system freighters? 1 means equal chance for default and modded?
I haven't looked at it enough to know everything, but I'll give some educated guesses:
- It affects freighters, not frigates.
- I'm not completely sure, but I think 1 is equal chance for system/(capital&new). Higher numbers equal fewer capital/new freighters.
You'll need to wait for Winder to give corrections/more details. I think they'll be around in a few hours.
I have no idea what that question is about
The AMUMSS user prompt for freighter frequency, how does it work?
Is "How many times as likely do you want vanilla freighters to spawn?" not descriptive enough or sth
unless you don't know what vanilla means I guess
Just trying to interpret the user's question, but I could be wrong on what they mean
Yep you got it, that was my question. Sorry if it was not clear for others
@fresh arch thank you so much for your help it was the DDS extension not being capital π
No problem, nice you got it working
Once I redo the texture I'll post a picture, total nube error it's upside down π
Just messing around, thought it was funny to share
@fresh arch Whatd be way more badass is finding a way to put Standard MTs in Staff terminals π
Does that sync in mp and make it claimable for others ?
Sir / ma'am, you're bold to assume I know an answer to this question
Monkey see code, moneky change code, monkey hopes the PC will no go boom
@fresh archhere you go this is what i have been wasting my time on, Essex police sentinels im going to do all the orange sents lol
why essex in particular
Is there a general vibe on mods people consider essential? I think I'm almost satisfied with my list and wanted to see if I'm missing out on something
Argh water. Otherwise, personal preference
Whatever mods tick the boxes you need modded. π
If you can be specific about what you want modded/changed, they you'll get suggestions. Else it's too subjective..
argh water, dud's sky - color, and my own, in particular the one that create decals and posters from dds files, and the one that allows placing ship salvage stations anywhere (i.e. right beside crashed ships).
Been a couple days, so gonna ask again. Anyone know of a mod that will get rid of the flashy/strobing lights during warp?
Or anyone talented enough to make a mod that can do that? (if it is at all possible!) I was so sure I had managed to find a way to get rid of them when I previously played! Thanks!
I might try it, thanks. I did see it when I was looking, but it still makes light effects, just darkens them, from waht I can see of the description anyway. I can give it a go and see anyway!
Right now when I warp I close my eyes and put my hand over them and wait for the sound to tell me I stopped LOL
If it's not dark enough, I'm sure we could put together a darker version pretty easily
About to try it out!
Problem being, I don't know if it is going to trigger a migraine, until it triggers a migraine =D
There is also one of the mods from the DSC suite
I might be totally misremembering, but I feel like whatever I used previously, just left my ship on the screen, slightly swaying side to side, and nothing around it
That makes the background fully black but adds colorful stripes going from the center
But I don't know if that'd be better or worse for you
Screenshot looks like it would be worse I think!
This one with darker is definitely better, but not sure if it will be enough =) Will keep using it and see! Thanks for the suggestion!
If it's not enough, let us know. We can definitely put together darker version
I like helping people with accessibility issues
Actually, why wait. Are there any color spectrums that cause migraines more than others? Wondering if having the lines of a particular color would be fine or if it needs to be all black
looks like blue-green is the most sensitive for most people
If it could be all black, that would be ideal for me! It's the flashing/strobing effect that does it for me. This one with the darker colours means even if they are a problem, I can just close my eyes, and I don't see the strobing through my closed eyelids =) Everyone gets triggered by different things TBH (I had to give up chocolate! =o)
There's other parts of the game that depending on how I am feeling on the day I might need to look away, like entering a space station. It can be very variable on what will upset my head on any given day!
Ok, I'll make it all black
Oh, you're a rock star! Thank you so much!
just a minute
First, a very very dark red version, because I was already working on that. I'll make a black version next
And here's the Lua
Oh! That fast! Seriously! Thanks! =D
They provided a Lua and it was simple, so it was easy to adjust
All credit to Silent. I just adjusted a couple of settings
Black, or almost completely black. I left it very very very dark in case 0 caused unforeseen problems.
And Lua
I'd recommend trying the dark red first, as that will give you visual recognition that something is happening, but shouldn't trigger any issues, but you know you better π
And I didn't test these at all, but I don't foresee any problems
I'm happy to be a test bunny! Very much appreciate the effort!
I pinged and shared the modified Lua with Silent on the modding Discord, in case they want it. I won't upload it as an independent download.
I'm getting these coloured lines coming out from the centre still - don't know if this image shows it very well, but I think it is better than it was!
Now I have to test them both again to see if I prefer the black or the red =D
Please let me know and provide screenschots. It looks like I need to do somethig about the center to darken it
Is a short video ok to post? Or I can upload it to youtube and link?
Anything is fine with me
It's a bit jerky (to say the least) but I like the red better I think too
This is the black?
Nope, the red
Those are still damned bright
I might need to dig into it more
I mean, fine for me, but I assume still bright for you
The ones coming out at me are a bit, yeah =)
Yeah, I think I know how those are put together, need to look into it more
Absolutely no rush! I really do appreciate it =)
looks like the changes I made are only hitting the general background, not the light streams
Testing a change now before I send it to you
Nope, that didn't work
I'll be off to bed really soon, but will check back in the morning! Please don't stress yourself!
No stress. I need to quit soon and grade some papers. I'll do what I can tonight. If no success, I'll return this weekend.
Thank you!
My pleasure
@ornate harbor Try this. The most offensive light streaks are gone. If you still have problems, let me know and I'll dig further.
Hello games is based in Essex lol
I've had it up to here with you and your "logic" - it holds no sway here, foolish muggle
mere time and space mean nothing to modding!
@hearty wasp lol I got it wrong it's Surry lol but never mind π
HG does have two offices, lol
I don't know what made me think it was Essex I've been brain farting lots lately π
It happens when you hit 50 π
Ah, so my 1st guess was off - I was going with adolescent fella whose mind kept getting derailed when trying to read Essex
Lmfao π€£π€£
I also changed the laylaps flair and stuck my FB group logo on it π
I'm struggling to find the posters in the file's does anyone know where they are kept?
Or badges, whatever the game calls the logos and stuff you stick to the buildings
Tia
Oh that is SO so much better!
Thank you so very much! I don't think I will even need to look away most days! (only days when I probably shouldn't be playing anyway LOL!)
Really really appreciate it!
They are in many different places, depending on usage. All within various subfolders of MODELS\PLANETS\BIOMES\COMMON\BUILDINGS\PARTS\BUILDABLEPARTS
decals will have decal in the name, posters will have poster in the name.
Would it be possible for a PC player to pass me the singularity engine in the space anomaly?
In on console
No because we can't trade packed technology between players
Hopefully they will add this at some point then, thanks for replying π
Thank you I will look again π
are there any mods to increase the limit on sphere creators/flaming barrels?
try gbase/BBB
search "gbase" or "beyond base building" on Nexus
then try gbase as well
alrighty
unlimited version of UBB should work as well
use amumss if you need to merge anything
gbase does mostly similar things to BBB anyway
gbase should definitely do that, but you would need to remove BBB. I have no clue if default BBB does it, but very likely does with optional Lua adjustments
if i have a mod can i still play with a friend?
Yes they just won't be able to see whatever your mod does unless they have it too
thanks
By default, BBB doesn't remove all build # limits, only for a few items. Takes a more granular approach. If you edit the BBB Lua file and change
NO_BUILDCOUNT_LIMIT = false
to true on line 28, save, then run the Lua through AMUMSS, you can make your own custom .pak for the mod with build number limits remove for all.

Else, I've added these two objects to the short list of objects where the build number limit is remove by default.
Shot you the preview copy in a DM
much appreciated
Wow I did it
New mod released: https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/2915/
YW. π
Congratulations
@fresh arch Possible suggestion: call it "lit expedition decals" or something like that. Glowing implies they actually glow, which would be completely different
Or edit the material settings to make them glow. That could be cool
Illuminated better than lit, probably
@green ridge https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/2910
noice
Does anyone know of some mods to increase the realism aspect?
Like maybe some way to make space...darker instead of colorful?
This one maybe? https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/2602?tab=description
Thank you so much!
Also has anyone used the Better Planet Generation mod?
What are your opinions on it if you have?
I wouldn't recommend getting it just yet
Not because it's bad or something.. never used it
But because we're expecting HG to release an update soon
Oh okay
tysm!
Thank you for the heads up!
That is handcrafted
I'll keep eyes open then
https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/1200 , Black edition
Use the Silent one for awhile, get a feel for it. Then swap out for the Exo one and give it a try. See which you prefer in the end and go with that one. π
https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/1471
I also found this one, seems interesting
Exactly, usually more than one option. Try each individually and see which works best for you and what you're looking for. π
Wow thatβs black or I donβt know my colors. Donβt use with mods making your ship all black π
I'm curious about mods.. I don't want anything cheaty or extreme, just QOL and shaders would do.
I'm just worried about ruining my game.
Lo2k has a ton of QoL mods
So does one certain typing individual
(psstt Gumsk that was about you)
Sean
Im afraid Sean falls under either cheaty or extreme
it's extremely QoL
Achieving salvation before others could be considered a cheat
Are you mocking?
No.
Is that the mod where textures are replaced by Seanβs faces?
That one is very⦠disturbing
Imagine how Sean feels. lol
Needs a sequel. Sean II: The return of Samwise
A most natural reaction
I guess I would not like it if it was my face
Since limited human minds can not comprehend the divine concept of Sean
Winder has many abilities some consider to be... unnatural
Ha ha I am OK with totally limited human mind. Can we mod it as well please?
Same person behind the Sean mod did that already, as well. https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/824
Just what I needed
is there any mod that makes you able to see your own body in first person cam?
even if we are able to enable it in non-vr you'd constantly see the inside of your head
ReLive-NoMansSky-Expeditions-Offline on GitHub
Replay ALL No Man's Sky Expeditions
ReLive-NoMansSky-Expeditions-Offline on GitHub is a directory of [SEASON_DATA_CACHE.json] files, allowing you to relive past No Man's Sky Expeditions as they were when they were released.
Introduced with the Expeditions update, this mode features a series of time-limited events that begin at a fixed point in the universe. This allows the community to "embark on a shared journey".
Each expedition is built around a series of milestones. These objectives can be achieved in any order, allowing players to obtain specific rewards, meet other players and experiment with different ways of playing.
How do you do this?
- Go to https://github.com/leodium/leodium-ReLive-NoMansSky-Expeditions-Offline
- First, set your game software to "Offline".
- Then download the "SEASON_DATA_CACHE.json" file from the cache directory of the Expedition you want to redo.
- Replace the file in your [cache] directory with the one you've just uploaded
-Steam : %APPDATA%\HelloGames\NMS\st_{steamId64}\cache-MS Store/GOG : %APPDATA%\HelloGames\NMS\NDefaultUser\cache
- Restart "No Man's Sky" in offline mode
Details - Modification of the access period so that you can access it whenever you want, with no time limit.
- Progression through the stages preserved so that rewards can only be obtained when the objectives have been reached in order to earn them ...
- Changed the number of Tech slots in the exosuit to correct the fact that, at the start, the technologies were in the normal inventory (so remember to move/replace them at the start of the Expedition if necessary).
@timid burrow I know, I was just letting you know that regardless of whether what you wanted was forthcoming, you should pursue it because its likely sound.
I don't make claims that is not a viable method, just seems way over-the-top compared to other solutions
Especially in perspective of expedition reduxes launching soon
Meddling with save data content is not something I would recommend based on 1) aforementioned reduxes and 2) amount of people able to provide support in case something goes wrong
With mods and save editors you have dedicated communities of people who know what to do, but for this?
Just copy/paste a file into a directory ...
No modification/influence on backups !!!
No intervention on game files ...
No risk whatsoever! What's the problem ?
The problem is in reduxes which we have reasons to believe will launch soon
How this file will affect the option to play reduxes
No worries ... When the Redux Expedition (or a new expedition) arrive, the SEASON_DATA_CACHE.json file will be automatically replaced/overwritten (by the game) by the file for the new expedition ...
The files I'm offering you are the files from that time, with "roughly" just the "modified" end date so that you can access them ...
When the Reduxes arrive, I'll complete the list here too ...
Okay, question - has this actually been tested? Because I havent heard anything about having to play in offline mode with system time adjusted to the appropriate periods.
Can you mod no manβs sky on pc Xbox? Or is it only steam?

Ight, thanks mate
Not in Macπ
Personnal Computer ?
It's not, at least not in NMS related sense
Where files used for the Mac build use different compression and even different paths / formats
Ex. MACOSBANKS instead PCBANKS
Hence why all the mods that work on PC platforms regardless of individual provider do not work on Mac computers
IBM marketed the PC label
"IBM PCjr"
That morphed in time to mean a desktop because IBM and clones owned the market
Even though Apple desktop was always technically a PC just like an iphone and laptops are PCs
We can argue about semantics and whether an abacus is a PC or not all day
Doesn't change the fact what works where
Abacus is a PC. There is no argument
People have been a PC. NASA used people "computers" during early Apollo missions. Some tech leads had "Personal Computers" working for them.
Facts
But for the above I was kinda trying to say Apple is not considered a "PC" for those reasons....that IBM had PC in the name.
I think we can all agree, things with keyboards that work in NMS are like dark Atlantids and everything else is like light ones - none of the latter can use mods, and most of the former can. π
Is there a mod that adds more things to the default scanner scans instead of just di-hydrogen/oxygen/sodium etc?
I know about this one: https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/2325
Maybe there are a couple more if you search through Nexus
Hello ... How do I open a .pak file to see how it works? If possible online?
Cheers, have come across that one. I've looked through scanner stuff a few times and not found what I was asking for, π but I know some mods have odd names and don't turn up with a normal search. >.<
I might add this one tho because the only curious deposits I've found have had one and two balls π
https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/1375
This is a good example of one I had back in the day but couldn't find again, because it didn't have scan or scanner in the name >.<
You will need psarc tool to unpack those archives, then probably MBIN Compiler to decompile the MBINs inside into a readable EXML format
You can find both tools at GitHub
Or get AMUMSS since it includes these
Jackpot! :D
Better Pulse Scan and Ship Scan
https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/2587
"[All] Rare resources will now appear when you use Pulse Scan with Multitool or Exocraft, range of finding buildings with the Ship Pulse Scan also increased"
Anyone can tell me what is the seed of this ship or how to FIND the ship seed from everything given here?
Well, shoulda asked what is the ship type you're looking for lol
So it's the sentinel
Yeah no dice, the nms.center app does not allow for seed preview of Interceptor ships
Just fyi I read through the info on this mod and it makes 3 star curiosities spawn anywhere and apparently commonly.
I was wondering why its name was worded as it was!
No it's not the ship seed. To get the ship seed from glyphs you can use the region info exports from nomansapp.com
These will include all system ship seeds including sentinels for any desired location you choose
I might add a direct web option to pull all sysem seeds from glyphs instantly
π
Or just go to the system, get the ship, then look in your save for the seed π lol
Because the author wanted it that way. Maybe the name has some sort of artistic intent or the author's first language is not English, so word choice may not be optimal.
You misunderstand, I meant that it was me who misunderstood the phrasing, and it made sense after I realized the full extent of the mod.
From the description it helps you find the curiosities but it doesnβt make them spawn more than usual. I have not tested the mod so itβs just what I understand with my average-level English
I just decompiled the pak and looked at the Lua. There are definitely spawn chance changes
In fact, that's most of the changes
Interesting. It means itβs good for playing but not for doing a farm to share with others because chances are that vanilla players wonβt find anything where you plant the base.
Still it's not actual NMS content so #other-games would be the place to go
Ok sorry my bad π
Debatable - I'd argue it is NMS content, that has been forced into a different game. π
The mods I've been using are causing my game to crash and I have no idea why! They were working just fine the other day!
Did you update from public release to latest experimental?
Add any new mod .paks to MODS?
Number at lower right is the game build number. This is latest Experimental...
Current public would be 111039
GOG
ok. I'm assuming "the other day" you were using the same version, as 111039 has been latest Public on GoG, since 9/19
I'm not familiar with latest GoG Galaxy client, but am assuming, like Steam, there's some sort of ability to verify game files. May want to look for and try that. Be aware that the verification will re-create the DISABLEMODS.TXT file in the PCBANKS folder and will need to be renamed\deleted to use mods.
I'm aware of that and I've already tried it. I'd try it again but my sister just kicked me off the computer.
Else, would want to look for mod .paks in PCBANKS\MODS that have a date older than Aug/Sept. When you have the chance and can get back onto the computer. π
Can pick up the troubleshooting again then.
You can try posting a screenshot of your MODS folder here
Maybe we can spot some out-of-date mods
Or ask your sister to do so. π
Better idea - may take a bit longer, but get the sister hooked on NMS, so she'll want to fix the mods.
"One of us! One of us! One of us!"
@vale ironI saw your customGFreighter mod[https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/2200]
(the one with star wars ships and the yamato and stuff) I was curious, what was the problem with the executor model that caused it to need to be removed? (Not frustrated just genuinely curious)
One of the updates a while back caused us to re-export all our custom models. On doing so, the Executor texture didn't export properly. It looks like something to do with the normals, but don't know and the export plugin author doesn't know either.
Hi do others see modded unique freighters? Or just you
@crimson schooner just you, and anyone else using the same mod

See the 1st link, make sure you got the right MODS folder
And that you have the DISABLEMODS.TXT file removed / renamed
I do, I've about 22 other mods installed.
I saw the mod uses GCGAMEPLAYGLOBALS.GLOBAL.MBIN and am guessing there's a conflict somewhere
That is another possible reason
If two mods modify the same file, the one that gets loaded last wins
And it's effects are visible in the game
Is there any way to affect load order? Was thinking about this the other day. haha
I'll check my mods and see what conflicts when I have more alertness.
Yes by renaming files
There doesn't happen to be a more efficient way than reading each of their mod pages... is there?
But the proper solution would be to merge conflicting mods using AMUMSS
There is a link to AMUMSS guide in the bot message earlier
@fresh arch
Fast Actions 5.9
https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/1081
GCUIGLOBALS.GLOBAL.MBIN
Is it possible this is the conflict?
it's really better to just use AMUMSS for conflict checking cos you won't need to ask the same question 22 more times then
Alright, I'll just do that instead. I wouldn't have asked 22 more times though π
Only asked because I thought I might've had the culprit outright. Thank you
when you have 22 mods I don't consider it practical to answer even that one
especially with just the number 22 as information
With 22, almost guarenteed conflicts with REWARDTABLE though. π
can someone give me really broken starship mods on perma death ;-;
@wintry bolt Doesnt work that way
;-;
guys is custom playermodel possible?
It's possible to import custom models to substitute for player modes
But it's very rudimentary as we don't have tools to make proper animations for them
Exosolar's Expanse: LUA included
The LUA file:
does anyone know a program or something that would let me modify that script more easily or some explanation because i mean... just look at it
There isn't much to explain really
Game stores collections of colours as data tables
Where each element of the table has lots of sub-components, each being a color declared with RGBA variables
well that sucks
The LUA script injects new values which are stored in a table, where (I guess) 1 row corresponds to 1 original table
cuz i like some of the mod's more realistic space colors but some of the super colorful ones are awful
The same structure, just instead of vertical, going horizontal
do u know another mod (other than black space) which adds realistic skies that look more like this?
instead of being very colorful and bright
Nope, two options
- seeing the Expanse Black Edition and trying it out: https://github.com/MetaIdea/nms-amumss-lua-mod-script-collection/blob/main/Babscoole/EXOSOLAR MODs/_Exo's Expanse Black Edition.lua
A collection of public amumss lua mod scripts for nms. - MetaIdea/nms-amumss-lua-mod-script-collection
it says that it is literally only stars and colored stars
- joining the dedicated modding discord and asking around there if anyone who dealt with modding longer knows a mod like that
!moddinglink
in order to transfer with nomnom, do I have to create a new game beforehand on steam?
you could also create a patch mod that uses Exosolar's Expanse as a source and you then just script the changes for the specific colors you don't like.
yup
That image made me physically recoil back in fear
Nope. Didn't work.
Why did it have to stop working!? I didn't even update the game!
I know what happened now... I think i corrupted my save...
A 40 HOUR save!

Apparently a save editor can help me get it back but I don't trust anything the internet is saying.
Nevermind. I removed the mods and the save loaded.
I then went to the space station to get a new save point, left the game, restored the mods and then the save loaded.
So something did go wrong it was just the save point.
Thank the LORD-

This is both strange and dumb.
The planet I was on was causing the crash-
@night adder
I have mods disabled right now.
Keep em that way for the near future, all the activity on internal branch means an update is imminent, am guessing one or more of your mods just broke due to whatever HG has been disseminating in advance of the update
So its only gonna get worse, better to avoid the hassle
Alright then.
Updates break most/all mods, but most of the popular ones get updated within a week or two to compensate.
When is this update coming?
We dont know for sure, just that one is due, based on internal and experimental branch updates
Alright then. Thanks for your help.
Traditionally, Redux starts at about this time, each year. So current guess is tomorrow, but that there's an internal build that hasn't gone to experimental yet, might throw a wrench into that.
I didn't know that. I've never really been too involved in this community until recently.
Welcome. Release dates are always a best guess scenario. There's nobody with insider information. If not announced via the NoMansSky Twitter/X account, then we don't really know. π
What we lack in knowledge, we make up for in speculation and conspiracy theorizing - plenty of fun to be had, but little certainty. XD
Does modding turn off steam achievements?
I know. But I wonβt tell.
(Joke)
HE'S SEAN IN DISGUISE! CATCH HIM BEFORE HE DISAPPEARS!!

My poor PS4 would crash trying to spawn that in, every time, but Gojira didnt!
More like godzilla
Depends if you say it in English or in Japanese. Same thing. Gojira is the original combined word gorilla-whale (gorira + kujira)
Do you guys think that there are performance mods for my poor 1660 super trying to run no mans sky vr?
There aren't really any performance enhancing mods
Only one that comes to mind is the "no lag when leaving planets" mod
Would it not be possible to tweak LOD settings and such via mod to lower the lowest quality settings to enhance performance?
I could swear I saw properties in various files for draw distance
But what if I wasn't expecting an answer? What if I'm suffering from a case of curiosity, and was simply trying to infect you? π
Yeah, but you are talking about a LOT of settings in a LOT of files.
Ah, so possible, but not practical, thankya π
And the objects aren't going to be consistent on which ones you want at a certain distance.
Yeah you said it right.
It would take a decent amount of testing work too.
Now, since the addition of some in-game settings.... there might be some kind of global thing you can do but I haven't looked lately.
Actually, 1 more question. Would the moddable files cover the different values used from platform to platform? What would happen if you simply tricked the game into believing that youre playing on PS4 oldgen, as opposed to nextgen on PC?
^ @night adder
Did I just zeitgeist an already-created mod?
Two that will help a little with potatos. Only things we've got. π
Miss the old project potato mod, lol
Unfortunately not updateable to more modern NMS, too many changes over the past few years.
Each object has LOD settings. I donβt think PS4 has any different settings in the files for this. My guess is PS4 is maybe internally capped in the exe. I.e. PC has planet detail settings 1-5 and PS4 is locked on one or capped at say 1-3 or something. Iβm saying this without having looked into some kind of global LOD control that might be new. My understanding is all PS stuff is same code outside exe.
I've not found any sort of global LOD override.
Yeah I havenβt stumbled on anything. I just wondered since they added the new in game settings for things like βplanet detailβ that they might have added some global stuff for what settings each level is. Havenβt looked for it though.
Give me a good list of values to use for LodDistances, I could make a script to change all to that, in short order.
Hmm yeah that can be tricky cuz every object will be different and require testing on particular PC with particular individual taste.
And then the overwhelming amount of steamvr options
Yup, no win-win on this one
More a low-hanging fruit "solution" to the potato problem.
Like anything we do, will never be a one size fits all.
I figure I may as well start asking these questions before I switch to PC, will save myself time failing at things before asking the questions later XD
Non-issue if not using a potato. π
The only reason I'm not already an expert at writing and using mods mods is because testing them isnt an option - but I know the types of things I'll be interested in playing around with once that changes, so there's no reason why I should wait to ask questions I know I'll have later on.
Most important thing to learn for making mods is the limitations. Once you learn that, keeps you from wasting time researching things that just aren't possible to do. All based on a two stage system of the game file data being run through the exe. We're limited to changing values for properties that exist, where they exist. Can't make/use what isn't already existing and can't use properties for one class with another as there's a set structure.
Example. Awhile back some person was asking about the possibility of a mod to, among other things, have asteroid impacts on planets leave persistent craters, the size of which would be based on both the mass and velocity of the asteroid. Realistic, sure, but the game has no properties to support any of these changes, so not achievable.
You understand this, all of 3 seconds spent on coming to that conclusion. You don't, could be dozens of hours wasted for nought. π
I actually do understand the basic restrictions, my question was based on curiosity about which side of that line global platform graphics settings fell on - Ive seen other things like controls that are platform-specific and moddable, so I wasnt sure whether or not something similar was within reach. π
oh dam i didnt know that, that is epic
Not sure on the graphics settings
Cursed
Is anyone aware of a mod that adds the other two cardinal directions to the HUD compass? N & S is great, and all, but W & E would be grand.
You can drop beacons around the equator, but its more hassle than its worth, lol
Sadly not possible, the game stores compass / scanner icons in a fixed size list, can't add new ones
And even if we were to replace existing ones, the code responsible for displaying compass is not available to us
Yeah I looked into this briefly sometime last year and didn't see any obvious routes to add E/W
Thank you, gents!
One other question: any way of displaying "in the cockpit" information, like planetary coordinates, while in third-person view? I fly almost exclusively in 3-p, and switch to 1-p only when flying to specific coordinates.
Very minor, but would be nice.
Not that we know of, and UI related files are helluva complicated to work with, so there's a small chance anyone would dabble into them
Even small things in the UI can translate to hundreds of lines for code where only HG knows what section does what
That is kinda the general idea: if you don't see too many mods in category X, that's because none wants to deal with things in category X
Anyone managed to mod in the Pirate Dreadnaught ship to be flyable yet?
No, we can't even use them as regular freighter with hangar / base
Much less to fly one, there are no properties for that in game
@ripe rapids Let's use the channel for its stated purpose, thanks.
There is no such thing as removing filters. There is always a filter in use in all parts of the game.
You could add a default filter to the photo mode. I don't know exactly what you mean by "weather", but there is no way to stop the weather system when going to photo mode.
Okay
remove mods and loading as save wont currupt my save will it?
Nope, you'd be safe to do so
Yes, that effect of black/white/red is an applied filter, and camera uses filters as well and can counteract that. Unfortunately, some weather effects are not filter based, so they can't be cancelled with choosing a different filter.
Hi. I'm searching for a "lite" terrain mod (lua version if possible, only voxelgen), which doesn't affect, or in a very little way, my three bases. Because I tried someone but I found my bases buried or half buried. For example something that involves only the top of mountains or high hills and the deep of subwater. Could someone give me an help? Thanks
The terrain engine doesn't work in a way where this would be possible.
In cases where filter application doesnt do the trick, reducing Fog to 0% can help some, or one can shine their Torch on the object and place the sun opposite the planet so only the Torch is illuminating it. Sadly, all of these are imperfect solutions, but combined with yours, they get you almost all the way there.
I used to have a mod that makes storm appear basically once every year but it broke in one of yhe updates
Think I ripped that one from someone else tho
hi guys, are there mods / config changes to remove the global basebuilding limit on pc, built a huge freighter base and just hit the limit π¦
no
If you have a modded texture, NMS will load it.
It has to be the right type, in the right location, named properly, etc.
yeah I have no idea what that means
I know the game clearly uses 4K texture because Gumsk and both I use em
imagine the falcon using 256 textures
It has to be in the same folder structure as default NMS
fuckin star wars point and click adventure type ah shit
Sierra Wars
I love flat shaded polygon style stuff. This is actually interesting to me.
I'm a freak though.
also going to be dealing with some cached stuff
the last time someone ran unpacked was a couple months ago and I think they yote the paks
^that too
I've never run unpacked so I dunno anything about it.
Either it's the wrong type, incorrectly named, in the wrong folder, cached, etc.
nice 256 logo
Trippy.
Go to another planet type like lush or desert/barren. Need pic.
The textures are different types.
Also, some textures will be cached. To get around this, you'll have to mod the loader for it with a custom texture name.
What is the setting on when it doesn't crash?
yo what are some good mods
Sean
can u gimme the link for it if thats ok
cant find it
To be serious though, mods are HIGHLY subjective. Mods I like, you may hate and vice versa. Play the game, vanilla, for a bit to find what annoys you. That'll give you a list of mods to look for. As NMS, in general, doesn't get along with most mods that aren't updated to near current, Start here. https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/newrecently?page=1 Once you get past page 16 or so, currently, greater and greater increased risk of mods causing the game to crash on load.
is there a mod to make the planet feel better
Quintessential always recommends Sean, when someone just asks for mod recommendations without specifics. π If you know what you want a mod to do, much easier to give options. Can't lay a bunch out otherwise, due to that subjective thing.
and not just some rocks and trees
Ok, what do you mean feel better?
like look more lively
I can recommend a mod to increase number of wildlife, if that's what you mean.
idk if i should ask this but is there a mod that gives u more items when u farm stuff
like carbon and stuff
I can't recall any that give different substances.
There's a number of different biome mods, like Better Planet Generation and Parallel Universe.
3 different terrain mods.
i downloaded better planets
since it had the most downloads
is there any mod that fixes the shit flight system
That's sort of the king of them, with (literally) 34,000 custom game files
the flight just feels off
Can try Parallel universe then and see if that fits your needs better
so far i like better planets
my only issue i wana fix is the flight system
is this mod safe
Not a chance, too old. Current cutoff is August 2023. That one would crash the game
See how this one treats you
There's also SpaceshipFlight, as part of https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/507?tab=files
:0
Thanks. Looks cool.
@timber quiver interesting project. Might need to run that on my work desktop since it's an integrated GPU
@autumn turtle gEpic has some flight remodeling built-in, but I don't have it as a separate mod. I think S Flight Ultra has a better model anyway
@timber quiver Did you try dropping them any lower, maybe 64? I don't usually go below 1024
It might be in a BC not recognizable by irfanview or xnview?
HG uses BC1, BC3, BC5, and BC7
and sometimes unexpected places, sometimes incompatible with other formats, sometimes accepting
very unpredictable
Sometimes you need mips, sometimes not
Sometimes mips screw things up, sometimes they don't. Sigh
GIMP doesn't handle BC7 last time I looked. NMS uses BC7 for some textures.
paint.net handles BC7
I use both
I don't know how well a batch process will work with NMS files. As said before, they use different levels of compression, different mip-map settings, different resolutions, sometimes they accept disparate settings, sometimes they don't.
Caching is not usually the problem, but sometimes
I'd say the most common problem is wrong BC format, second most likely is mip-map setup, third is caching
If it can't read it at all, it will usually come out black or invisible
If it's misformatted in some way, usually a rainbow grid pattern
Just going off memory though
From what I recall Analysis Visor does not use LUT for the overlay
But a full screen size texture
Yeah, weather effects and normal analysis visor border are full-screen textures I believe
LUTs are for depth effects
3D LUTs, and I haven't figured out how to edit them, but I haven't spent a ton of time on them and have no prior experience
TEXTURES/UI/HUD folder, files that start with BINOC...
Granted, most of my NMS modding is no prior experience, but I must emphasize how little I know about LUTs particularly π
I know nothing, I just know there are dedicated textures for Analysis Visor / Survey Device
And people get rid of that tint by simply replacing said texture with a fully transparent one
Yeah, default analysis visor is just a standard DDS right?
Yup
Visor uses LUT and border texture overlay.
I have a mod for it with custom LUTs and texture borders in DUDβS SKY - COLORS
LUTs are used for all game filters. Photo filters, planet filters, storm filters, Nexus filter, etc etc
Then I apologize for being wrong
I thought it's just a texture job
There is a blue tint texture which I thought gets stretched to make the blue overlay
Whenever i talk to an NPC, i get stuck in the view of them talking, but no text is displayed, and i can't do anything except walk around, no mouse input of any kind is possible
i've downloaded Instant actions, is this a known issue?
Instant Actions or Fast Actions?
instant actions.
Cause Instant Actions looks to be heavily outdated
That doesn't tell me anything
Googling it leads me to Video Game Mods.com which is not something most modders use
Most modders publish their mods on Nexus Mods and that's where they keep them updated to latest game version

just provide the link where you're downloading the mod from whenever you can
yo are there any mods that make the game look better
Is it small enough to turn into a manageable mod so people don't have to repeat the process themselves?
Would be great if you batch processed to reduce polygon count, but don't think that's possible π
Some meshes are insane
yo what are some good mods to make the space more fun/better( already have sean)
What would make space more fun/better for you? That's completely subjective
with more combat events and stuff
Pirate encounters? Like on warp into a system or while traveling in system?
while traveling
Bro why are the graphics so bad
yo is there a mod to fix the stutter when u leave the planet
isnt that outdated?
@fresh arch
oh this is a diff one
thx
um how do i put this mod in it has a app file
is that one better than the redux?
This is a tool that creates an updated mod for you
Other variants, including the original mod are outdated
even this one?
i mean it was last updated 25th june 2023
not that long ago
i remember when i used the original mod it didnt allow me to spawn the anomaly and i stopped using it so idk the state of these mods anymore
Echoes, the last major update was released in August
So this mod isn't even compatible with version that was releaed 3 months ago
I posted the link for the tool because it lets you create that mod based on the game files you have on your PC
oh my god the mod actually works properly
no lag when i leave the planet, the exe is stupid easy to use, no conflicts with my other mods and i can spawn the anomaly
@vague bronze did u figure it out
great stuff
well i mean its just an exe
i give it the path to PCBANKS and it works
not mods folder?
but the pcbank?
i put mine into MODS
would it still work
when you run the installer for the mod its gonna ask you to select your PCBANKS folder. after you do so it should put the actual mod pak inside MODS automatically
if you put the executable itself or the folder inside MODS its not gonna work because its not a pak
i click on the app but it doesnt do anything
try to click on Set the path first
i see its underlined and u r using Windows Terminal
i assume its a link... maaaaaybe
nope not working
this is what i get when i run the exe
u have to go to the PCBANKS folder through this menu
select the folder then click OK
uuuhhh....
and u downloaded this one
ya
yep it worked this time lol
done
i think i did it
it closed
once i picked the file
is that suppose to happen
@vague bronze
um
@vague bronze
i dont thimk it worked
i dont see it
it said it worked but i dont see it here
@vague bronze
it says this
but it didnt work
try to refresh the folder
i havent went to the nexus after installing the mod
let me see if i get the same results
is there anyway to uninstall this mod
really its the first time
also i have the mod in my folder of mods but i still have the lag
when i leave a planet
Heya all
everything is fine on my side, so its not the mod
How are doing all?
vex question
i have the mod installed
its in the mods folder?
but it still lags when i leave the planet
ya
and the game was restarted after installing it
i dont think its my pc since i get around 210 fps normally
ya
and disablemods.txt is deleted or renamed
i started the game itself after the mod
ya
THATS A LOT
?? thats how much i get in most games
210 for no mans sky is insane
no i have other mods that work fine
let me uncap my fps
are u using amumms to merge them?
amumms is there to remove conflicts and crashes
no
what fucking behemoth of a pc you got there im getting 60fps in the nexus uncapped
with optimized settings and dlss set to quality
its a rtx 4080 with a 13th gen i7
do you have a performance mod or something
fucking hell i cant wait to get my next pc
try using amumms and see if it fixes your issue
how do u setup amumms
read the README file it explains how to install it
you need to get amumms from github
if you deleted all the lua files that came with your mods reinstall them cuz amumms needs them (I THINK. IM NOT SURE)
at least i did reinstall them just to be sure with the lua files. i think theyre there just if u want to customize the mods so u may not need them
potato graphics mod?
π
thats 99.79% in reduction
fucking hell
id rather wait out 1 minute and 44 seconds for the game to load than to look at that
ive measured it the game every single damn time takes exactly 1 minute and 44 seconds to load
Constant in-game loading not only loading screen. With the intent not being for pcs that arenβt potato.
Hey @fresh arch , got a mod question for you.
DM when you get a chance. Thanks!
Because people want to take pics of the planetary filter in use and storm pics. There are several default filters that get called different ways.
Oh, so it's you
I left a comment on the clear photo mode mod that could be of use for you
π
Well now I'm blown away
https://sudonull.com/post/77048-Reverse-Engineering-for-Procedural-Generation-at-No-Mans-Sky
The article seems to be missing a bunch of stuff tho
Yeah, was written in 2016, so wouldn't have known everything at that point
@kindred dagger a save editor is a program that is able to read your save file(s), and allows you to do a bunch of things, one of which add known items, like undamaged drone shell
@kindred dagger this is basically, pick a save editor; set it up; open save file, make changes, save, launch game
Is there a simpler way? Bcs there is so much Data to search n type
wdym?
Game Pass uid, Game Pass User, Steam 64?
take a look at this post: #nms-modding message
OK i will try
@kindred dagger
No stickers in this channel please
what's up, got it done? π
yes thx
Is there any up to date mod that increases stack sizes of everything? Looking at the nexus they all are from multiple years ago
Can a pc moder trade something so I can get a bird or something flying as a pet yo can't get on console
Yes either a pc player or by using the service bot -> Pet/Egg Delivery (https://nomansapp.com/)
I try to get a ship just using that it says delivered never came LOL but still need a bird
There are probably 200 old ones and 85 current working ones. Not sure what is what.
@solid hawk
Even one recently out of date, can use the lua script with amumss to update
With all the available space nowadays and the possibility to change hardship level, one wonders why you would need to increase stack size. Either you work a bit and get more slots in your pack or you switch to creative mode and donβt need nothing. Just my 2 cents
Personally, even though I maintain a stack mod, I've never felt the need for one. But to each their own
I'll have to look amumss up, never modded my game before
We can help you out, just need details. There are working stack mods without AMUMSS though. gStack should be working
I'm just looking for some quality of life mods but most I find on the nexus are years old, not sure what works together or not.
Your #1 stop for QoL mods: https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/880
Gumsk, 1Monk and Lenni also come to mind when it comes to QoL mods:
https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/users/38106355?tab=user+files
https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/users/166479?tab=user+files
https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/users/120045488?tab=user+files
And because mods are asleep so self promotion goes, I did a couple as well, like Misc Text Fixes, Glowing Crystals or Colourful Staves: https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/users/90068138?tab=user+files
I'll look at all that
Personally on the lookout for mods related to cooking, since I have a lot of gripes with it - and was hoping to make it easier tolerable for myself
And a way to remove the arbitrary stack size limit in PD because that's just annoying, not hard
I can't really comment in regards to cooking, never looked into it
For stack sizes, as Gumsk said - dozens of people make such mods, very few stick around to keep them maintained
So stick with Gumsk's mod and you'll be fine
The only thing I've found so far is "Cooking with Cronus" that allows to give him more than one food at a time, among other things. Absolutely mind-blowing stuff
Oh yeah Alchemist does some great things
They helped me with my own quest related mod
Do you think they take suggestions?
I think it doesn't hurt to leave a comment in the Posts tab
Just keep in mind, modding is still limited to what the game already offers, your idea / suggestion may not be possible to implement
It's just a small change (I hope). The nutrient processors cannot pull ingredients directly from its own ingredient storage and that feels like the biggest of oversights to me
(or the freighter, when building the room)
I don't think that would be moddable, unfortunately
That's strange. The normal refiner room has no issue pulling from the freighter and its cargo
Isn't the nutrient processor just refiner 2.0?
That's all controlled in the exe afaik, not something we can mod with currently available tools
