in terms of mods? just take a look at nexusmods website, sort by last updated, see what you fancy. dud's sky colors for example
if you want to yes, or you can just do what i suggested - find a post online with the glyphs to a system that has the ship you like/want to find, then ask someone to taxi you there, or unlock the glyphs through the storyline and go get it yourself
AMUMSS is used to compile mods by using lua files that AMUMSS understands
so if i learned AMUMSS it would basically solve both problems?

iow, if you got the lua of a mod, you can set up AMUMSS, and compile that lua for any game version, well, might need to do some changes from time to time
mods not working probably just means outdated
or loading mods after that are overwriting previous mods

Sick, the issue you have is mod conflicts. Solution to this is combine/merge conflicting mods using amumss/lua scripts
I changed the size to my creature in my files from a 1.0 to a 120.0 my flying snake encircled the entire planet 😂 causing my game to freeze then break. I had to use my saved game I backed up on my computer
@lime mesa Iirc, 21.0 is the largest Ive gotten 1 of those to summon without crashing on my PS4 - it was a close thing though, lol

Yeah, thats what happens - I started higher, I'm saying 21.0 worked, and 22.0 crashed
I even expanded my grid size for my Multi-tool from an 4/3 to a 8/4 now I got 54 free slots available
I got a blob up to planetary size, but it was a long time ago and on PC. Didn't notice any issues, other than very bad textures when stretched that much
I saw a PC player post a worm at 1000.0 size - he listed his setup, which was pretty high end, mainly to explain why he was so shocked the game dropped to 0-1fps for a full 15 minutes before the lag spike smoothed out XD
(For some reason worms have much worse summon lag than other types - I cant summon a 22.0 worm without crashing, but a 100.0 cat loads in after a few seconds of stutter)
I edited my save, now I have 5 billion of everything

When sharing saves in a report to Hello Games, it is best to create a package/archive of the full folder shown for your platform above (.zip/.rar).
and you're going to want to make extra safe, and backup that save folder before ever opening it with NMSSE

@wispy vigil so basically you run the save editor, select your save on the dropdown list, then goto to the exosuit tab, right click on a free cargo slot, add item, type radiant brain, press search , save. then click file at the top left, save, close save editor, launch game

Both NomNom (zencq) and NMSSE (goatfungus) will work and have been updated recently. You'll have to try them to learn which you prefer

@blissful escarp I think that is a somewhat personal preference. For me that would be NMSSE, as it has more basic features and is very reliable. NomNom has a lot more features with even more planned, but not always as reliable, but certainly not bad either, especially considering someof the features. Some may even have both, and use whichever is best suited for the task

I do a lot of raw JSON editing, for which I prefer NMSSE. Save transfer is a regular used feature only NomNom has. Many users may also prefer the export features of one over the other. Really hard for me to tell which you will like best
As for UI, both work well, both try to replicate slots as they appear in-game, including images of items etc.

I have very stable fps, just stutters very often, it's not possible for it to be my hardware
Then in that case all I can recommend is that you reinstall the game
I'm guessing the main thread (or maybe just the render thread since things like sounds appear not to stutter) blocks when something is being loaded so probably not fixable in modding
The only performance mod off top head would be the no lag between surface to space

Vortex is not ideal for NMS. Better to just install manually by dropping the PAK in MODS

for you, you will be in a hill or something, but for them you're will be floating

NMS modding, we can add static data to static game files. No means of adding new code properties or inserting dynamic data.
No facilities for "full characters"

Most frequently used is Vortex, BUT traditional mod managers do not work well for NMS, because of file conflicts. Conflicts are mods that make changes to the same game file(s). By default, if there's a conflict, only one of the conflicting mods will work. None of the mod managers out there check for those or can do anything about it. AMUMSS is a conflict checker and Lua script processing platform. Can do those conflict checks AND be used to remediate conflicts, by combining/merging conflicts mods so they can work together. https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/2626
Not unusual for a Vortex user to ask why ONE of their mods isn't working and turns out 50% of their enabled mods aren't working, due to conflicts.
The smart folks deal with NMS mods manually, for full knowledge and control of what's happening, with remediated conflicts.
Process is fairly simple. Manual download mod from NexusMods, place the mod .pak file into NMS install\GAMEDATA\PCBANKS\MODS folder.
Delete PCBANKS\DISABLEMODS.TXT
That mod should not run fine, as long as it's updated.
As you add more mods, do conflict checks with AMUMSS. If a conflict is found, fix using AMUMSS, covered in that How To how to combine/merge.

I'm dowloading AMUMMS by following the PDF guide and ran into some issues when I ran the test file. It says I need NET5 and no other versions (NET6) will work but I thought NET5 was getting deprecated. The guide also says to install 6, not 5.

There already is a .net7 version of MBINCompiler, but isn't the main and won't
be, as .net 7 is short term support. Next will be 8, either late this year or early next.
Latest full is 4.2.1.4, before the change to .net 6, so doesn't check for 6.....You need to apply the AMUMSS update, to get to latest, 4.3.0.0, before running the test install

First of all, if this is the Cyberpunk City Freighter base from Klipwc, I suggest you go here instead: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kz4AEEOM5lA&t=166s&ab_channel=Klipwc and try get the base through their Nexus Mods link provided in the video: https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/2439 and follow instructions from there.
@grim ibex Now if this is in fact a different base, you will still be needing a Save Editor (see pins for NomNom or NMSSE). From what I can gather, it would require you to use the Raw JSON Editor to overwrite your current freighter Base. Once you open the JSON Editor, you have to navigate to 'PlayerStateData > PersistentPlayerBases > [X]', where X is a number (index), each containing full data of a single base. You will have to check each of these numbers in your save data, to find out which number is your freighter base. To recognise a freighter base, you can look at the data it contains. You can check the 'BaseType' field to see if it has the 'FreighterBase' value instead of 'HomePlanetBase'. You can also identify a freighter base by having a 'AIRLCKCONNECTOR' (freighter specific) part instead of a 'BASE_FLAG' (Base Computer). Once you found the number that contains your freighter base data, you will have to replace part of the data provided through the link you found. The full data provided will not have the required userdata to identify you (Owner), and it will also not have the correct in-game location data for where your freighter is at (GalacticAddress/Position/Forward). The only section you should replace, is the full 'Objects' data within. So only copy all of the 'Objects' data from the download, and paste it over all of the 'Objects' data within your save data Freighter Base 'Objects' field. Do mind formatting and spacing, as this has to be done correctly for it to succeed.
Note: Make sure to have a backup of your saves, just in case!

Could anyone help me with restoring my settlement? I changed the name and its fully bugged out now. Basically the game thinks its mine and not mine at the same time. My settlers mission and my teleporters still point me to it, but the central pillar says I have to claim it and the main building got erased from existence.
(the mission points to an empty point in space because of it, which is a little funny)
But I'm very concerned that I'll lose my settlement, especially its location on the planet

Ressource deposit often being towers of ressources out of the ground. I'll share a screenshot when I come across one
If you want to change a normal ship color, you can only do so by changing the seed or doing a save edit that will only be visible to you. If you want to change the golden vector or utopia speeder, I have mods for custom colors of those.

@jagged hatch If this happens without ANY mods installed, then this is likely a game issue, unless you are playing an old version of the game. If this happens with mods installed, one of them must be the culprit. Figure out which and you can notify the mod creator.
Most likely a mod causing this. I can imagine how terrain height is possibly altered, while the resource deposit is still being created at its initial source location, to then being dragged down (or up) by the altered terrain gen from a mod

That is intentional. One of the BPG terrain mods is causing it. Most likely alien terrain.
You have 2 terrain mods installed. One is overwriting the other.
NMS used to do deposits like this with an earlier version of terrain. Alien terrain I’m pretty sure uses a sorta copy of an older version of terrain.

Deposits are terrain. Just one of the many pieces. The deposits will be placed in accordance with the mod, but will always be a relative height compared to another piece of terrain in the mod.
You can use DUD’S SKY - TERRA FIRMA with BPG.

The new deposits are a totally different shape and they are positioned at …..say normal ground height and lower.
The older deposits had many more shapes and most are not made to be lower than ground height.

I have a decent general understanding, but never looked into the specifics for these in NMS
TERRA FIRMA uses those deposits, but a lil changed and only on “prime” planets. Which makes it rare. All other planets use the current deposit types.

I’d like a mod that increases draw distance for pictures. My castle in the back of the settlement has lod issues where u can’t see some walls or items on it like the flags on top of the castle…. Every mod I’ve tried just bugs my 1st and 3rd person view

it's not a problem with this particular starship, for example when I am next to the space anomaly and I move my mouse toward the space anomaly, it will move very slowly, much slower than in open space - also, when I make a slow circle motion with my mouse, the ship moves in a diamond pattern instead of a circle

All games with a vehicle. Be it car bike plane ship. Work better with a controller. From speed don't roll to overall movement
Just remember to invert you Y axis in "camera — flight control"
also seems like moving up/down is much quicker than left/right
as if sensitivity was lower for horizontal axis and higher for vertical
especially when boosting with shift, moving left/right is turtle speed and up/down is fast (with a mouse)
seems like there is no sensitivity setting per axis so perhaps it's an issue for me for using an ultrawide screen (assuming the sensitivity is relative to window size)
here's a video where I boost with shift and then move my mouse in a circle (note how jerky it is on a diagonal axis)

@tiny needle @fresh arch Yes, ships have a different threshold for upgraded Maneuverability stat based on their Core Maneuvering - the higher that is, the lower the overall stat where the spins effect begins to occur. Also worth nothing, both planet size and average terrain elevation have an effect, so IME, a Fighter/Solar/Exotic begins experiencing it at ~3000 Maneuver, and experiences it in all atmospheres by 4000.
An Interceptor, however, can be pushed to over 5000 without suffering anywhere¹
- Interceptor testing was cursory, value may be somewhat inaccurate
The actual cause is an interaction between basic turning speed, governed by core Maneuver, combined with Boost Maneuverability bonus - you hit a point where the boost multiplier applied to basic turn speed hits stack overflow for overall turn speed.
I don't think that this behavior is intentional so hope it gets fixed in the future

Certainly not, stack overflow means the values our tech allows for are too high for the flight mechanics to process - the likeliest fix HG will use, if any, is to nerf our tech so we cant hit the same point, so be careful what you wish for.

What it means on a meta level though, is that theres no point devoting >1-2 SC slots to Pulse tech, which is 1 of the main reasons starships benefit more from spread out slots than adjacent ones.
Well, core maneuverability governs base turning speed. Maneuverability upgrades apply 70% to Core Maneuverability, 100% to Boost Maneuverability, which only applies while boosting. So the game needs to calculate out overall core and boost maneuver stats separately before it can combine them into overall turn speed, and all values use 16 digit precision XD
a 16 bit float is like 4 billion max already
don't think I can get my 700 maneuverability past 10000 with mods
since it only does it in +X+Y and -X-Y axes I would attribute it to some wonky conditional instead
I'm not a programmer, script kiddie at best - I can refer you to the people I trust with these details, but I cant explain 16 bit float and how it relates here in a proper fashion
well, if it's really stored as a 16 bit floating point then you overflow at numbers above 4 billion, should be relatively safe
if it's a 16 bit integer then that limit goes down to 32k, but I think the stat shows a decimal
I do admit, my conclusions are based just as much on observed behaviour as actual math - I know the math for how core vs boost maneuvering work out separately, Ive had to fill the gaps in how they come together and the result

NMS is the 1st game to rekindle that passion, even lacking as it is, I love flying,and I've come up with several "civilized dogfighting" rule variants, plus cave flying is always laughs - you either make it through, you die, or you somehow manage to reverse through >1000u of windy tunnels

We can't add new properties that don't exist in vanilla, as the exe would have no understanding. Mostly value changes to what already exists or repurposing existing "code", as long as it works within the set framework of the structure of a given game file.
In the case of the galactic map, we're limited to what's already in GCGALAXYGLOBALS.GLOBAL.MBIN.
The mod above just replaces a language variable that's used by the galactic map

oh. Ok in my game files, in "MODS" there is a folder called "EXPORTED" -->METADATA-->UI-->and then in the UI folder there is an MXML file called "NGUIUSERSETTINGS"

Be aware of how the game works. You can only ever see your own bases which are actually in the save that you are using. This means if you transfer a base to another save of yours, it will only be visible to you when you actually play that save. If you upload your base, it will be available to everyone else, regardless of which save you are playing. The game just never 'downloads' your own bases, but only uses what is present in the save, so for yourself it is slightly different.
With that being said, the best way to get passed the limit, is to have multiple accounts. That way you can use one account to build and upload your bases, while the other account can then always see them. The account that has the bases, can then use multiple saves of 16k to be used for base building being visible to your 'alt'
You can set prices to free in difficulty setings so you dont need to grind again for the buried tech. To unlock base parts.

If you upload the base, it will be available to everyone else. If you then delete it using the save editor, it will still be there from the server. But as said, you only see your own bases if they are in your save that you play. So because it is deleted, it will not show for you, only for others

All terrain will be affected, game won't have pity on the tiny amount of land you've claimed

Mods will not break your save. If you use a terrain mod, it will not affect your bases. It WILL affect the terrain where your base is. Meaning your base height will be different relative to the terrain. Also meaning if you remove a terrain mod, all will be like it was before you installed it.

I don't know how to answer that. Any time you change terrain, you technically change the size of the planet.
There isn't a mod that makes all planets smaller, if that's what you're asking.
what I'm worried is that after I turn all my bases into low orbit, when I add that mod they will end up being in space (with bpg planet got smaller), or when I remove that mod new bases built with it will be in space (bpg made planet bigger, but after removing it planet got smaller again)

Something I've never considered: the render limit for base parts is based on terrain height (1000u above), not on sea level or atmosphere height. So terrain generation changes could inadvertently push a base onto the no-render area
Is this fact or just "maybe"?
When I added BPG and some of my bases went underground I could teleport to them, and what I saw below was something like a hard surface from which projectiles bounced off. It would make sense for atmosphere line to be based from that "core" of the planet rather than current terrain. Terrain level changes even due to HG updates
What you're describing is the bedrock, which also changes around the planet. There's then a variable level of deformable terrain laid on top of the bedrock. The sea level and atmosphere level are fixed distances from the core. The render limit is definitely 1000u above terrain, based on my own and others' testing. I don't know if it's the bedrock or deformable terrain, but one of the two

Terrain in NMS is built from the outside in. Not from the inside out.
There is essentially a big cube (outside the visible planet) from which all terrain, sea level etc. is transformed from points on the cube.
You know far more about terrain gen than I do, for sure, but isn't it still true that the bedrock is a variable distance from the core, there is a variable amount of deformable terrain on top of the bedrock, and the atmosphere and sea levels are a fixed distance from the core?

How do inventory stack size mods work when they are removed? What happens to the items that are in a stack size larger than possible in vanilla?

BPG only affects the terrain generation of the player who has the mod installed
Remember, planets are procedurally generated locally, on your machine
Game does not send your "terrain data" to other players, they have their own carbon copies of the planet to walk on
But it does send your player character stats, so if you're walking up a hill that exists in your game, that elevation value will be send to other players, making you appear floating in air on their end
so better dont install terrain related mod if u wanna play with console player ?

I think so? There are some mods for increasing the stack sizes, never tried them so I can't tell whether they affect the storage units

Doing that with regular ships would make all existing ships of that type become different... And parts aren't really separate things, so you can't easily put a figher part on a hauler or something, each model has all the parts, with only certain ones made visible
Yep, you'd need to integrate new parts into both the existing scene/geometry files and then also add into the DESCRIPTOR file for ProcGen. Nothing with animation would really be possible.
Yes, Beyond Base Building, as an optional feature. You'd need to edit the Lua to change CAN_SCALE_PREFAB_PARTS to true, then run through AMUMSS to generate the custom .pak. Another option would be the Unlimited Base Building varient of Ultra Base Building.
Be aware, scaling (resizing) components breaks snapping, so you'd be free placing everything.

Interesting. Has anyone documented how the ship generation works? I've noticed that even the vanilla animations are kind of b0rked, so I'm not too worried about that
If I had to generate a ton of data files I would honestly not be opposed to it, I need a project and I want to make this game weird again. Feels like I'm looking at the same 20 ships everywhere i go
And like... half of them are DOA for me. Especially those explorers where the thruster is at a different angle than the trail 😭

But at the surface level you just need to know it's a selection tree where the game selects a branch and go down from parent to child nodes

Has anyone successfully modded the Mac version of the game? With NMS Mod Builder, it is possible to convert the PC pak files to MAC pak format. The modified pak files are not recognised by the game, even if they are replaced by the main pak files in the MACBANKS folder. What does the game refer to when checking these files?

There is no obvious way to tell whether a mod is compatible, only stick with recently updated or newly released mods
Mods that were not updated to current game version are likely to either crash the game or cause other gameplay issues
I generally look at the items in the mod pak using nmsmb to view the diffs. if the diffs are just values or new|deleted sections then it will likely work. if the diffs contain field adds, deletes, renames then it may fail or not work as expected.
if you want to do it without save editing just reset a rescue mission until the freighter is S class, thats how i did it

It's in one of the 2 audio pak files. To figure out what file it is, you would need to find the entity for the model and see what file it calls for the sound event.
But it's not as easy as replacing an ogg or mp3.
