This is what I use to play with textures
this isnt particularly for a mod but can any modders who have dug into the files give me the background used in menus without any gui assets ontop of it.
I had a little trouble getting the game to start with the new update due to mod incompatibility.
The 'Shorter arrival messages' pak was the culprit, in case anyone has it.

No mod manager like Vortex offers conflict detection
No mod manager, just copy / pasting files to the dedicated folder

Well for NMS i just have AMUMMS/NMSMB loaded with all the mod(scripts) that i need, so i just recompile + merge anytime the game does an update that bricks my mods
that the least time consuming
the scripts don't changes that much (unless with major updates) fe 3.xx -> 4.xx

I linked it because any modders will need this info. But I do also provide a file which is used by most save editors these days, so if the save editor automatically pulls this file, then you can do that and have the latest compatibility
Combined if they conflict, individual if no conflicts.
I personally only combine mods that have conflicts, so my MODS folder has several combines and a bunch of individual mod .paks.

I didn't do full on table comparison, just a quick look

Staffs (or whatever the plural form is) have the same stat bonuses as Sentinel MTs
There are 3 types of Atlas MTs, there are some differences between them
But general idea is low to medium damage, high to very high mining and scanning
Scanning as in range, not the visor scanning rewards
so best for combat, while atlas MTās are good for mining and scanning
and do installed parts change anything besides appearnace?

Game ships files packed in PAK archives, need a tool called PSarc to unpack them
Then you get encrypted MBIN files, need a dedicated compiler to decrypt them
Then you're left with text based files that have XML structure, that can be opened in text editor or internet browser
I use VS Code just because I already had it installed, there isn't anything special about it

cos there're 15 new heads, and each head has 4 covering options
so that's 60 combinations

Yea Iād do the missions with mp off, and a tip if you donāt mind save cheesing a bit, once you got enough to buy most expensive stuff you can just reload restore after buying and keep the quicksilver and items unlocked

No, because the parts data isn't in the save file, other than the seed.
Could the seed be changed in a way in which I can customize it? Like does a letter and number next to eachother be changed to make it different? And is it able to be predicted?

hi everyone, looking for recommendations for working overhauls (mainly planet generation and some QoL stuff), kinda tired of having to look through mods to see which ones are updated and solving conflicts so I would just like to get one big mod/pack that works out of the box and improves as many features as possible
Currently no such thing exists
We're past a major release, we're getting mods updated to be compatible with latest version of the game
But the bigger mods take longer, some of them like Better Planet Generation or Duds Sky are handcrafted so we will have to wait
As for QoL mods, check out Lo2k's work, they have dozens of smaller mods that should be updated
For solving conflicts there exists a tool called AMUMSS that can be used to detect and merge conflicting mods

It's not predictable, more like encryption like handling of the seed that leads to the parts. You can try this tool to generate every possible custom multitool inclduing preview: https://nms.center/
is BPG and Duds what most people use? I get that there's been a big update, it's just a pain to look through what works and what doesn't since most modders seem to not make it very obvious
I know of AMUMSS and it seems like such a pain in the ass to use that I'd rather wait to get a big mod that handles a lot of things at once

The moders that are active mostly do note what version of the game mod is working on
And even if not, you sort the Nexus by recently updated mods
And look for mods that were updated since Echoes release
Using AMUMSS isn't a pain either
In most cases it boils down to putting a script in a folder, running the BUILDMOD script, answering a couple of questions and you're golden

@gray briar The .jar is the main executable, but for Java applications. The download will have a batch file (.bat) once extracted and installed. You'd usually want to run that, which will run the java app correctly.
Yes, the upload limit can not be changed as we have no way of adjusting this. This is likely checked server side, or just out of reach to modify, in the executable.

What that one does, IIRC, is allows to place parts anywhere, removing the 'range limit'. Tricky though, as it can result in parts getting into BaseBuildingObjects (portable), instead of the PersistentPlayerBases

You can use a save editor to add all sorts of things, like items/tech/knowledge/etc. I would however not recommend messing with Mission Progress. If anything, you could adjust some difficulty settings perhaps?

The one I found costs money, and all I wanna do is change the colour of some of my ships so they all black and white
Both Goatfungus and NomNom save editors which are pinned in this channel are free
And you don't change colours per se, you change the whole starship seed value that will result in different colors and parts
Tried the nomnom one when ever I change the ships colour the seed code disappears
And goatfungus don't work for me as I'm on xbox
Ships are using seeds with no direct relation to colour to be able to adjust as you please. Changing seed to a model and colour you like would be the easiest way to go about it. That being said, it is possible to spend a lot more effort to customise your ship, which will then however not be visible the same way to other players. There are some guides and info on this, but I am not quite sure about any still working and updated posts on this.

I would not recommend trying to save edit mission progress for completion. There is too much involved, with a huge risk of messing up. Maybe check your difficulty settings to skip some, perhaps some mods, or just get yourself some of the new items/tech/rewards or whatever else through the default save editor features. If you truly insist, absolutely make sure to have a backup. Even copying someone's save requires knowing what to do and making edits where it involves data specifically aimed at your account.

NomNom fails to autodetect USN/UID/LID requirements, so some additional searching is required to get that info. The transfer feature otherwise functions fine, which is still preferred over using the above fallback. CC: @fresh arch @hearty wasp

Yes, NomNom is still the way to go, just the auto-detection failing. Still easier to just look into the raw json to get that info, than trying the above 'daunting' solution. Either way have to be more experienced to figure out. Will hopefully see it fixed in NomNom soon enough.
so i think i can edit item unlock data GCUSERSSETTINGSDATA.MXML i don't know if doing anything in that will fix my problem but i hope it does i dont know coding terms so its rather hard to read what exactly "seenproducts" or any other variations like technology and substances. i don't really know if its just items i have actually just seen or items that i have unlocked in my catalog and if it will even work if i lock the items i want to lock again because i don't know if they are technically unlocked because i bought them with a bug then reloaded a save point witch caused another "bug" because i had unlocked it in a previous save even though i reloaded so it gave me the items for free at the auto phage terminal but i didn't actually earn them and i didnt pick up the free ones yet because i don't want to mess up a chance to reverse this
What items are you actually referring to?
the autophage items, basically i accidentally bought all the auto phage parts with units (when that was a bug) at the time i did not realized it was a bug until after i acquired them however after that that created another "bug" (although its probobly a way for people not to lose items) and they where free at the auto phage terminal and im assuming that's tied to my account

@formal spindle Currently you would have to download and install NMSSE (goatfungus), for which you can find a link in the pins somewhere.
Once installed, you make sure it finds your saves, to then switch to the Account tab. On the account tab you select the rewards you wish to get, Make sure the Save Editor saved, go into the game, visit the Anomaly, redeem your rewards at the QS bot

Yes, it can do a lot more than just expedition rewards. Make a backup just in case. Do not make it yourself too easy, because it can also ruin the fun.

You will need a PC, because you can not do it directly on the console. You sync saves with the MS Cloud, then on PC you have access to edit, which can then be synced back to be used on either PC or console again

And when you use NMSSE, finding the save path may require you to manually look for the location. Make sure to go another folder further into it, where you find containers.index and it should recognise the path/saves from there

The download is a self-extracting archive (.exe). When you double-click or run it, it will extract into the files it needs. Once that is done you can run the .bat file to run the editor

Now you can select the 'slot' from the dropdown. Doing that will always get the last save for the slot, which can be either the auto-save or the manual save.

I think everything else sort of explains itself there. Just know that account wide items are available on the 'Account' tab. Similarly you could edit either the save data, or the account data using the JSON editor. You choose which from the 'Edit' at the top. Editing the JSON is for advanced users, and usually not required for the more basic things

Yes. You can put a checkmark for any you wish to add, then you still have to visit the Anomaly in-game to actually redeem them

The mission progress system is very complicated to edit correctly, with many steps involved. Alternatively you could however adjust so called 'timestamp' values which are used for almost everything. This has to be done correctly though, and requires the JSON editor and is for more advanced users.

Ships, multi-tools, and many other things are procedurally generated using 'seed' values. There is no linear relation between that value and the colours/parts it alters. So you would basically have ot search an existing ship or otherwise and then alter yours to that seed.

anyone knows how to force an upload? the game keeps crashing on my pc but i'm trying to upload my edited file...
anyone knows if supercharging a freighter might just cause the game to crash?
because that's the only edit i did between two upload and now i cannot open the game on pc without it crashing after selecting said file
my file on the xbox is safe so i can always just reupload it to my pc if thats the case, i assume

Hey so I used a save editor to re unlock expedition rewards, but in doing so it also unlocked the autophage race for customization. I havent done that questline yet and want to it legit
Any idea what I can take away in the save editor to re-lock that?
are the construct chest, arms, boots, etc etc part of autophage stuff?
What did you do exactly with the save editor to unlock "expedition rewards"? Or how did you do it?
And which autophage race customization items are you referring to that were unlocked that you're concerned with? Do you have a list of names of items / codes, or screenshots?

I went to the account section and unlocked the expedition rewards there, plus the construct pieces (I thought those were S10 expedition rewards, but maybe I'm wrong). And before that the entire autophage race and all its customization stuff was locked, it would have the other 5 races then just "locked" in the customization station, now its fully unlocked with all pieces
Do you happen to have a screenshot of what you're seeing now in the appearance modifier? It may help us decipher what's going on. Hopefully someone else here will be better acquainted with the latest changes from Echoes to help more.

when before it was locked completely and i couldnt even select it

I see. Yeah, that definitely looks like content unrelated to Expedition 10: Singularity 
- Do you have a backup of the save, so you can go back and only unlock the parts that you mean to unlock?
- If not (btw, when save editing, we do HIGHLY recommend making your own extra safe backup in case this type of issue occurs), have you tried unchecking the items that aren't part of the expedition?
See list above ( #nms-modding message ), which includes the codes that correspond to previous expeditions, which could help identify what you need to uncheck or remove from the list. Relevant pin with other info that could help: #nms-modding message
Oh wait, I think I see it, I thought Voyagers was the last expedition, not the current one, and I unlocked those rewards too. 2 of those are autophage heads
let me try removing the Voyagers stuff and seeing if it relocks

That is one of the options and currently the only one updated to the current version, so I would recommend using it for now.

@keen scaffold Both NMSSE and NomNom should have made a backup, which is stored in a folder with the application. Maybe have a look there to revert changes made?

That is why I ask about the other files that came with it
There should be a few more files, of which one is used to run the jar file
If you insist though, open a command prompt, execute the following:
java -jar NMSSaveEditor.jar -autoupdate (hope you have the path correct, or as environment variable)
It is just so much easier to actually read and follow the instructions, to then simply execute a .bat that is meant for making your life easier
