I'm actually just about to work on a new mod for blobs, which will be called "BetterBlobs Mod"
I will begin tomorrow
I won't go into too much detail here, but basically, it removes all the things I think are annoying about them and adds some cool new stuff
I'm trying to make everything modular so that my mods can be combined. For example, if you hate all the blobs except for the snake (like me) then you can add both the Blob Bioweapon (vaccine edition) and BetterBlobs mod so that the snake is both available and less annoying.

Use Goatfungus, it's the only editor that was updated for the Fractal update

some mods dont have .lua file, how to extract/create/whatever the term is the .lua file from a mod?
I did do some reads but cant find clear answer
First thing to try is to put the .pak file in modscript by itself and run buildmod.bat. That will extract the mod. Most mods that were built with Luas will have that included there. If they weren't built with Luas, it gets more difficult.
Then you can check the Lua repository to see if anyone created a Lua for it, or you can try to build one yourself.
If you are wondering about specific mods, you can ask here and we might be able to tell you if there is a Lua

Babscoole informed me that the .pak file (not the Lua file) contained another mod by accident. I've updated the mod and tested the uploaded version to ensure that the only mod included is the BestFriends mod. I'm sorry for any issues.

customizing the blob experience
So... if you combined all four of my mods so far you could:
- Silence annoying sounds from blobs
- Make them common, easier to discover and see
- When you make one your pet, you can feel closer to your companion - no more having to leave your friend behind when entering bases or when running, for example
- Eliminate all the nasty blobs, with exceptions for Snake or Blobby Blob
Or just kill them all with the universal bioweapon π

One thing I want to add, if youβre a fan of the blobby blob, you can add the Blob Bioweapon Blobby Vaccinated edition and the Blob Safari mode to:
Convert all blobs into the blobby blob
See the blobby blob on most planets, because it has become common
Pretty neat if you want to see lots of different unique combinations of colors and features
Youβll also see some new and different descriptions as well, ones that typically donβt appear for blobs in vanilla

I think you just try a mod that you think is interesting and if it doesn't work it'll just crash the game. The game has multiple saves , and if you crash, you should just reload no problem

@green prairieone thing; not sure what triggered it, but I put down 3 base computers, one at a lone trade terminal, then the minor settlement, then at some runaway mould. I built terminus and biofuel reactor at the trade terminal and mould, and bounced back and forth twice to get the nanites for the tech, and the 3rd teleport, the ship started following me. So then it was right there at the minor settlement when I got the tech and I was good to go. I'm torn on whether that was a blessing or too easy for the challenge.
I was probably 5 to 10k u from the ship by then, maybe more
I think that's part of the game, that I never thought about it, when you teleport from a place to another, the game puts your ship close to the base computer or in the landing pad if you have one
no idea if that can be disabled
ok, not sure how I missed it the first couple of teleports, but I was probably too focused on the tasks
I guess that's a way of doing it, save you the travel back
so, next time I start, I will place a base computer there right off, to jump back

Has anyone figured out how to compress .DDS files in the save cache folder? Base images shouldn't be 2mb per, I have way too many its almost half a gigabyte now, and I don't want to delete the folder

if anyone compress em the game prolly won't be able to recognise it anyway
I suspect the game uses the filenames to recognize it, so if you use the same file name it should theoretically work
if the game uses a unique system to compress and store a file it's as likely the game would only be expecting the exact data format
but that's irrelevant because we cannot arrive at that point yet
so just make a backup of that folder

and then delete the original to save space
no the issue is steam cloud storage
you only have ~240mb of storage for nms
and those cache files are uploaded too, if u reach max storage, steam cloud saves no longer work

Yes, but it's all done in texture files, not in the Lua. Let me see if the textures are small enough to share

Ok, so I can't share the PSD I use to split the texture into layers to make editing convenient, but I can share the vanilla and a modded one so you can see the difference.

And I honestly think it's only the top two that matter, but what I have works, so I'm not changing it π

@vale ironI changed the color, and it saves as .xcf, I don't see how to get to save as .dds
in GIMP
I don't use GIMP, so don't know for sure. You might need the NVidia DDS pack. One second

Lua is just a text file. The DDS goes in the Modscript folder with the Lua

@vale iron @dusk saffron Just a quick FYI: In Gimp, 'Save As' is only used to save in Gimp format, which saves everything like a project. For DDS you select 'Export As ...' to save in an image format of your choice. Then you select DDS Image which will then open the Export dialogue to edit settings prior to actually exporting. You'll find the various types under 'Compression' and can disable/enable Mipmaps further down.
Note: It is possible to find multiple DDS entries when selecting the extension for export, in case additional plugins are present (like I have). If that is the case, just make sure the options look as shown here, which is the default.
I think I changed a setting somewhere that changed save as behavior. For me it lets me choose DDS and goes to that style screen

You can use Goatfungus' save editor to edit the account data to check every expedition reward as unlocked
Then you should be able to redeem the rewards on all the saves
I only wanna check the polestar one as done since its the one that was bugged for me

It was not updated for the latest game version and can cause issues with your save files
You should be using the Goatfungus' one

To create your own backup, you can just copy the whole thing (as in the folder that includes all the hg save* files). It's what I do.
Can never go wrong with extra backups

Is it possible to mod settlements? So the resources required to build stuff can be changed to be more difficult and rewarding?
And if yes, is it possible to add another option at the space station eye thing and choose to become an overseer for the station or system
Wouldn't need to add anything expect the dialogue that makes settlements work and much larger numbers to work with

What we can do in NMS modding is fairly limited. I can't think of a way to do what you're talking about.

- always have a backup of that other backup
- use Goatfungus save editor, the other one (or ones) were not updated
- always ask if you don't know what to do, better to come out as stupid than to ruin your save

Yes, it's a string stored in one of the langauge files
If you get the NMS PC Banks Explorer (part of AMUMSS) or the NMS Mod Builder you can look them up
Or have a folder with all the MBINs decompiled and open that folder in a text editor like VS Code and search those files from there

@robust surge There is a current issue with the new Robo Companion from the expedition. It causes issues with both NomNom and NMSSE once claimed or hatched. Recommended to wait for a fix. Unlocking it is fine though.

I like this one because it lets you hover motionless, but doesn't change speed on anything else. Other ones felt twitchy

There's a mod that adds more riddles and math problem stuff to observatories, so I figured I could add more stuff like that

at the absolute minimum, I'd just take normal settlements and change their dialogue to sound as if you're becoming the star system overseer
Probably not possible to set other places outside of the settlement as the things where you take the rescources though, unless you make it a fetch style mission where you delieve them to someone on the space station or trade post

Never assume 'can' with NMS modding. Just stick with maybe π As for your question, I'm not sure exactly what you want to accomplish, so I don't know what you would need to do. Are you talking about changing the text of the landing pad entry or actually changing what it does when you build one?
As far as I'm currently concerned, it can do nothing physically. But yeah changing the text. So when you get a choice to build this building, or the landing pad (or whatever a settlement calls it) it'll say it's something else entirely. Like a trade post on planet xxxx
so if I chose it, it wouldn't literally build a trade post
You could probably change the text like that, but you would then be going to a location in your local settlement, feeding it materials, then getting a landing pad, when the text says you're building a trade post on another planet. Quite a disconnect

Dialogues like that, like Gumsk said, is usually chained from the scene's entity file (interaction component using the specified interaction type) > alien puzzle table (entries with the corresponding interaction type) using strings from language files for display
If you're simply trying to add more options to existing interaction types, you can just fuck with alien puzzle table
Unless it's mission related in which case most mission related shit are stored in mission tables

The main portion of the mod adds the E interaction pet menu to creatures that don't have it in vanilla
Does not address files or file entries that vanilla non-pet creatures may be missing that could affect behavior as a pet
not sure if you can do that on save editor, but I know the companion app allow you to export your companion file and then just send it to your friend to import

I couldn't figure out how to skip the tutorial, and it had been so long since I'd started a save that wasn't an expedition that I didn't recognize it at first, so I thought the mod had handled it for me, since the goals were all things I would reasonably do in the mod -- right up until it told me to repair my launch thruster. Do I need another mod for that?
no, when you click to create a new save there is a "Custom" option, there it opens the difficulty options you can change around, at the bottom there is one to turn off tutorials

Hello, i have a nintendo pro controller (wireless HORIpad) that i use for the pc. Nms recently added gyro support, put i guess it doesnt add them to steam since they dont expect anyone to use a controller on pc. Is there a mod that adds it?

HG does care about folks playing with controllers
NMS is certified on Steam Deck and HG has recently added the support for gyro input to the game

it removes every blueprint from Anomaly, so the only way for you to learn them is through combat, killing space sentinels ships to drop ship blueprint, killing sentinels to drop exocraft, exosuit and multitool blueprint
and I am trying to find a way to add bosses to the game
I wish HG would scatter every blueprint across minor settlement tech brokers, a couple of blueprints in each settlement
tecnically it's possible to scatter blueprints across different biomes
but yea, I wish the progression of the game was slower and that's what I am trying to do
like the starter ship, you would expect you having to use it for quite some time before you can afford a new ship, but this game isn't even remotely hard to make enough unit to buy a Class S quickly

With UBB, you can "build" a creature, but they just stand there, "living statues", because they are building parts and no longer creatures, from a file perspective.
yea, the way I imagine it could be achieved is finding out where and how the game controls the Fiend spawn when you touch the egg and see if you can put an extra monster in the list, same thing with sentinel, finding where the game control the waves and add a new enemy to the 5th wave

Not enough time to sustain my sheet again, I thought I would be a bit free to keep it going this year, turned out it wasn't.
Maybe it's time to looking for a co-owner or actual helpers for this sheet. I was all alone keeping it up solely just to make it free from vandalism or any sort of misinformation, but at this point it will be better to just pour fresh information when available and possible, if update would get procrastinated every single time like this again and again..
Some may find it useless when save-editor provide everything that is needed, but this one not only provide main reward of the past events but also some of the memorable drops during the progress of the event.
So, I'm looking for active and trusted members who wish to keep it going on while I'm absence.. like a wikipedia maybe. It is pure voluntary work, like what I did to it all the time.. lol. There is no deadline for certain jobs to be done, it's just that I feel bad to those who couldn't find new info in time when they are up which I promised them for... like what I did back then before this sheet was even made.

in nmsmb if you go to the substance, products, or tech tabs you can specify a filter string. or if you are viewing the mbin and see "LAND3" somewhere you can just double-click on it and it will try to look it up and put it in the toolbar.
