It's possibly an artifact from the mod, but more likely a vanilla issue. The mod is made by just hue-shifting the existing image file

Ok so, there’s a cheat for infinite currency (units, nanites, and quicksilver); download WeMod and make an account, and then press the key binds to activate the cheats
As for a ship, I can duplicate one of mine and simply deliver it by warping to whatever system you’re in, selling it to an NPC in a space station, and then you’d buy it off the same NPC with the infinite money cheat activated

I recently tried to start up my old versions and they all do the same thing, they don't load shaders right or something and the stars in the load screen dont appear, all black, seems the only graphics working are UI elements. Anyone familiar with this problem, have any ideas? (not "delete the shader cache" I already tried it, thats no help)

What version exactly ? I also had problems with starting old 1.24 pathfinder. Modern nvidia driver just don't allow some depreceated opengl calls anymore

I just wanted to ask. I don’t like to use mods at all but I saw a video last night whereby the character clicked on a refiner and there was no point of view alteration. Is this a mod or do some platforms PS5/PC/Xbox operate differently?

It's most likely a mod, as I know there is a setting for that that could be modded. I don't know of a public one that does that though. Have a look through Nexusmods and see if you can find something. If not, I might be able to make something this weekend.

Any way to make the stealth starship trail more visible? The middle part blends in with the surroundings too much and it makes it look like there’s two tiny trails coming out from each thruster
either replace the texture, or possibly alter the material mbin or something. I'll look into it once I finish testing the SHIPCHARGE sorting.
If there are mult products or substances it doesn't preserve their order, it just ensures products are listed before substances.

you'd have to extract the item from the game pak file, edit the dds, then put new dds in a mod pak file. multiple tools can help do this, I'll explain how to using nmsmb:
- open nmsmb, load game data (~12 sec).
- goto one of the PAK Item tabs and view the path I posted to see the same thing.
- click save on toolbar to save dds to disk
- use Paint.NET to edit and save dds
- put new dds in a new script folder in nmsmb, build as new mod pak

Yeah, two separate requests, one to add trails to the wings on the fighter, another to make stealth trail more visible

yeah i've noticed if the ground texture isn't loaded it doesn't make a crater AS often

@magic lava Dude, you like cookin' in NMS right? I just found out that 3D food printing exists. I even found one that thanks to a generous array of wide nozzle sizes and wide cartridges – can even print out chunky burgers laced with cranberries, walnuts, and the like. It even cooks it with lasers.
So, in theory you could make a mod/API hack that would print the NMS food when you "cook" it in-game. 🤯
You could also print the Nutrient Processor as a housing for the food printer. Crazy I tell ya, crazy.

A lot of mods have no permanent impact on saves whatsoever, any of the visual enhancements, accelerated timers, and class spawn increasers,for example, can be used on a save, and as soon as disabled the save is indistinguishable from a vanilla one.

I like Better Planet Generation, which adds more objects to the planets, so it makes them more interesting to interact with and explore. And also each region can spawn some different objects. And what it does can also be beautiful. There are two problems with it though. First, minor one is that it spawns some objects used for underwater areas outside of water. But I don't mind it as it makes some planets feel alien. And second and major issue, it changes biomes of planets when compared to the vanilla. Which means that while you have the mod installed, the planet which you have already explored might be completely different. And also your discovery of the planet might disappear when you switch mod/vanilla.
In case of multiplayer also modding planet generation means that you and players might see different stuff.
Also for some reason people complain that the mod crashes for them in some planetary types (even developer of the mod said it himself), yet so far I had no crash.
I also tried Redmas fantasy assets, which too should be changing planetary generation, but I didn't like it much as it just overlaps planets with too many assets.
Redmas did other mods though, like giant worm and creature overhaul. This one seems to be fine to me, but I had to remove the DNA rework of the pack, as it broke my flyer companions.
And I also use his Derelict freighter generation overhaul, but some stuff it generates is too loud that you can hear it everywhere during your derelict adventure.
Also if you want to check out some mod, you should first check if it was updated for the latest update. As if it's outadated, it might cause game crashes.
For Nexus mods you can sort there mods by "trending" ones.
Big shame is that there is one mod which seems to spawn huge space creatures, but it's dead.

I was looking if there is any way to port old mods for the newest NMS version and so far found that it can be only done if the mod has lua files through some tool. As other way would be probably to unpack mod, recompile it in the newer version.

I really don't know what's out there right now dude. There's a mod in DUD'S SKY (MOD_DUD_StandLightBright_v3641) that does the stand lights that you build and the ones at a trade post.

So I know this is somewhat covered in AMUMSS documentation, but not fully. Anyway, I have two conflicting mods. One only has pak, other one has pak and lua. So I put the pak from the former and lua from the latter in ModScript. First question: how do I set the priority? Just by renaming files? Second question: the file I get after combining, the patch, what is it exactly? What did it merge? Do I still have to use it together with and load it after that pak only mod, but without the one that had lua? Or do I still need both mods and the patch?
- Add tildes (~) at the beginning of the file name. More tildes = more priority
- It only merges and contains the files that were conflicting, so you may need the original pak in the MODS folder as well
And yes technically both of those are mentioned in the documentation
The first one is in the load order doc and the second in the patch creation doc

Some mods don't even support them anymore, like Better Planet generation. And yep. To me the mod instalation in case of NMS seems to be much easier than trying to use the broken Vortex manager.
I've tried to make one and couldn't find any way to do it. I don't know if either is even possible.
Yeah, I would turn off the download with manager button on all my mods if it didn't take a few extra clicks every time. Plus I keep forgetting to do it. Basically, don't use Vortex; just manage your mods manually.
Before Vortex Nexus mods used some Nexus mod manager app, which worked great for me. Then for some reason they changed it for Vortex, which is worse.
And in case of NMS it is just a matter of extracting a pak file to the mods folder. And maybe playing with the mod loading order.
turns out, it was as simple as changing the system clock. we thought maybe only skipping forward would reset it, but we were afraid to try it in case that would "end" the season on the client and kill it. so we tried skipping a week backwards, and it gave new expeditions to do.
Changing system clock can mess up several timers in the game, but if it worked for you, great!

There is a mod named companion unlock or something similar which allows you to feed and make companion from almost anything (even hostile drones in Derelict freighter - this one more sounds like a 🐛 though). But you still need to build some stuff to get up to the flyers.
As it doesn't make them land.
Not about Vortex or any other manager being good or bad. It's that none of them really help you with modding NMS other than copying files for you.
You'd still have to use AMUMSS or some other tools to resolve issues. And load order is dictated by filenames.
Vortex really ain't that extra useful for NMS since there's no loose files to install bar AMUMSS
It's not like Cyberpunk where you have multiple folders all containing loose files

I programmed new logic for No Man's Sky, which allows 'static' data to be animated.
In doing so, I was able to create this animated effect for the new galaxy map that I'm working on.

How do I download mods?

I am there, I dont understand how to download them
Click there on mods/browse all, so you get to the browse website. Then you can change filters depending on how you like. I recommend you to sort them by trending, as there are many outdated mods. And if you are getting one, check if it's updated/released after the time of release the latest update (Endurance for now), otherwise it might break.
Usually you download a mod in form of a .pak file.
You need to extract/copy this .pak file to the game's folder.: No Man's sky/GAMEDATA/PCBANKS/MODS.
And also don't forget to enable the mods by removing or renaming the file "DISABLEMODS.TXT" at "No man's sky/GAMEDATA/PCBANKS".

I recommend you to rename this file, like adding an exclamation mark before it, as then you can restore the original name of file to disable mods for example when you want to play multiplayer.
No man's sky is in the place where it's installed.

You shut down the game if it's launched, install and enable mods and only then you launch it again, when you want to play or to check if the mods are installed right.

That's not a quick edit, unfortunately. It's not the most complicated thing you can do with modding, but it takes time and learning. You can start by unpacking Ships of Moar and gShip Custom Ships to see how they work. Or, if the model is good and has a license we can use, Winder or I might be willing to put it into our mods.

Planets can range from being the size of asteroids all the way to the size of super planets.

So I'm trying to install some mods from the Nexus.
Apparently my "DisableMods" file is still renamed...which is odd considering I've reinstalled the game, after over a year of not having it on my system..is it not?
It'll boot, and give me the "warning mods" pop-up, but then crashes when I pick a save to load.
There doesn't seem to be any masters in any of the mods I downloaded (I only have 5); but I do seem to recall there being a script extender or something like that.
Is that something I need..despite none of the mods having a "requirement" tab?

Turns out that Faster Fleet & Settlement Timers's modifies two global .MBINS.
Their most recent update was on the 27'th of April. There have been a few patches since then & mods that modify Globals will crash the game if they become outdated. 👍
Also print screen does infact capture the screen...it just doesn't do a obvious flashy so I instantly decided it didn't work 😁

Afaik NMSMV is the only tool that currently can export NMS models to .obj format.

basically if you are running your base hazard protection you get the effects however if you have a rechargeable S class module for a specific hazard it will remove visual effects while active

There is nothing for this and can't be with MBIN modding, as far as I know. The logic for when to display the hazard effects is locked up in the exe
Personally, I never buy models. I want to keep my modding hobby free, plus not every model ends up working for NMS for various reasons, so you could send up spending money on a model and it just doesn't work out.
model makers can easily argue that the model itself is released in another format and thus not allowed within licence

NMS will run on Intel UHD graphics. It's not mandatory to have a separate GPU. Integrated GPU will work, but it the system has to support Vulkan.

Without a graphical card, I am surprised that you can even see anything on your screen. You probably have some integrated GPU.
Because no GPU=no screen.
I think that as long as the GPU, either integrated or not, fullfills the hardware requirements, can run fine. But it must support the game's API, in this case Vulkan. And yes. Some games require driver updating, otherwise they won't work properly.
Anyway, to check up what graphics card you have, search for "dxdiag" program and run it. It should show you which GPU you are using. Then you need to update its drivers, if possible.

I think the closest you'll get is either by constraining the biome settings to only allow (or heavily favour) the ones you want, or use the debug settings e.g. https://github.com/cmkushnir/NMSModBuilderContrib/blob/main/Scripts/ThatBomberBoi/Mod/Custom_System_Creator.cs, although I think that is constrained to just one system.

@fluid solstice Intel and AMD integrated GPU such as the Intel Graphics 430 or 650 etc are not able to run games , nor they are supported by any newer games , as a matter of fact the only function they have is display your screen when you do some basic usage on Windows etc: these cards has less then a 1GB memory usually 512 MB if it's a newer cpu but other then that they are useless

Is there a video tutorial, or good web site, or something on installing lua scrips in NMS? I'm new at this whole mod thing. From what I've read so far, everything says to just grab the PAK file and ignore the LUA. I'm guessing that installing the LUA script is done differently and its a more enhanced version of the mod?
LUA scripts are used to make .pak files. The .pak file is the mod.

I only know there is AMUMSS tool which turns Lua scripts into pak files. It can also decompile mods, patch them by Lua if possible and also check conflicts. And it has many example scripts. But idk if there are other ways.

So mods dont work in multiplayer correct? Not really sure how that works.
They work in multiplayer, but other players don't see them unless they have them installed too.
So for example if you have a mod changing procedural generation, only you will see the new/changed generated objects or terrain.
Other people won't see it.
Same for you when you do some coop quest- somebody might mark an object, which doesn't exist for you.
So if you play multiplayer, it's best to either turn mods off or do a group session where everybody would have same mods installed with same load order, so you have it synced.

For xbox the mods will be: C:\temp\No Man's Sky\Content\GAMEDATA\PCBANKS\MODS\*.pak (based on what you posted).
Only *.pak files are mod files, not .lua, not .cs. in C:\temp\No Man's Sky\Content\GAMEDATA\PCBANKS\ delete or rename the enablemods file as shown.

How did you get the mod you want to use, what kind of file is it (extension) ?
Nexus Mod
So the download is likely a .zip or .7z, you have to extract the contents. There should be a .pak file. The pak file goes in the mods folder.
The lua file is a script that can be used with the AMUMSS tool to build a pak. It is provided so you can try to rebuild the pak when a new version of the game is released. If the Nexus page said that the mod was updated for the current game release then you can just use the pak in the download.
A pak file is like a zip file, it contains items that the game uses e.g. textures, audio, text, ... The game will first look in the pak's in the mods folder for an item it needs, then in the pcbanks paks. So the mod pak's usually contain replacements of items in the pcbanks pak files.
The lua script takes game item(s) from the pcbanks pak file(s), modifies them, then puts the modified item(s) in a new mod pak file. The lua script is a text file that you can modify to tweak how the mod works. When a new version of the game is released you may need to rebuild the mod pak to account for changes that were made in the game pak items.

Mostly. There are mods that affect multiplayer.
For instance, mods that change AI behavior like ship AI. Since the host is localized, if the host has a mod changing the behavior then other players will see the same thing. But the host can change mid-instance.
I've made a system for giving the player a reward once per real 24 hours. If the player doesn't play for more than 24 hours (say a week) then it only rewards 1 time once in-game. The intent is to give negative reward to the player for standing so that the standing system is dynamic.
I currently have it set to have 100% chance of giving 1-6 negative standing for each race. 33% chance for 1 negative standing per each guild class.

issue is you can just summon your freighter to the sell area w/out risk and sell wherever... may need to do something w/ teleporters for materials
Indeed. Very true! I actually do summon my freighter, but all my thing does is it keeps me from having to make a few more trips, because I fill up my colossus, my hauler, and my freighter cargo hold. Then gate back to trading post base, call in my freighter there, and sell it all to the pilots. Would probably be just as easy though, to just gate back and forth and sell it like that. With the colossus and the hauler though, sometimes I like to just fill those up and let it sit, and go do something else, and then come back later and sell it.

@shy grove It's an easy JSON edit, all you do is change the scene file reference for whole ship to the cockpit-specific scene.

Those are the backups, click on any of them to load, then save changes to revert
