So I feel the need to point out that in the update where we get starfield ships, we are also given a "Skyborne" player custom that's extremely nasacore.
I think they might be making fun of starfield.
This update isn‘t making fun of Starfield but a homage to it, even the ship design on the cover is clearly inspired by the Frontier plus the Astronaut color scheme is clearly Starfield stuff

Hard disagree personally. Starfield has actual questing with some of their best questlines since Morrowind, far superior combat (especially on ground) and more advanced Fauna.
It‘s also a Space RPG while NMS is a survival/exploration game, they‘re actually hard to compare. Elite is a better comparison to NMS

So uhhh I made my corvette, docked it at my freighter, warped to a new galaxy and summoned my freighter but my corvette is nowhere to be seen and I can’t call it to the dock

Freighters sort of have a pad, corvettes are redirected to a space outside of the zone that can beam inside.
When you add parts to your corvette, are they supposed to be on all your ships? Because my starborn pheonix has a bunch of corvette parts now in it's tech slots

As much as I love this update, some of it is so similar to starfield that im worried betheseda will sue lol
Although nms definitely does it better with more customization, the ability to set up auto pilot, build furniture in the ship, fly the ship on planets, etc.
I don't think you can copyright the idea of starship customization.. It's like crafting, some mechanics are universal to games
If the specific implementation is directly lifted like names, way of assembly etc. then they might have a case but very unlikely to win cause 1) going against an underdog studio is a PR nightmare (except for Nintendo, they seem to love it) 2) Jurisdiction will most likely be in a UK court which might side with HG against a US firm 3) I think HG would have definitely considered any legal implications beforehand.

FYI, Switch has run expeditions with an mp requirement before. (Polestar, for example) It was an optional milestone that didn't affect completion.

We have the offline Nexus, which is different from the others and has modified requirements.
There is no reason to assume that if Switch 1 does get corvettes, they won't modify the Switch expedition to suit.

2022 redux increased QS rewards for Switch only to compensate for not having a Nexus at the time.

how does one find the new corvette
It's available right away through a typical space station. Fly into one, then look toward the sides to find teleporters to the four corvette landing pads. A construction computer is located there, where you can purchase starting parts, and technically have your first corvette after around 5-10 million units.

I tested it, and it seems true. I seemlessly moved multiple upgrades from my starship to my corvette as if it was just starship to starship.
Now I just need more storage upgrades so I can move even more of my starship stuff over.
Given the size of the habs atm, I actually wouldn't until you can edit the floors, get multiple sizes, or both..

Patch notes mention salvage containers, derelicts and sometimes drops from pirate battles

I think an update of this size is bound to have bugs, it might not look like as much on the surface as some superficial updates, but this is a substantial update! Just making corvettes feasible would have been a monolithic task for the devs so well done! I still think they put the expedition back to give themselves time to catch all these bugs, I wouldn't be surprised to see it pushed back more if they get a lot of zendesk reports.
I've played both on my own and with friends using corvettes tho, and I think they're worth it whatever kind of player you are ❤️ This is the kind of updates I like to see most, not a gimmick feature that we'll have a little play with for a few hours and then park (tho some who don't vibe with corvettes will do that, and that's okay!) but one that can redefine the way you engage with all parts of the game.
I was going to try that Starfield out if this wasn't corvettes, but now i'm not sure I will. I might just to experience something a bit different, but i was most excited to try the buildable ships. And well...
I hope down the line we get some race themed habitat interiors. Gek/Korvax/vykeen/autophage. You can make an argument for them already being for each race I guess but I'd love to see more options added say through the quicksilver store.
The exterior customization is pretty much perfect, just wish the interiors weren't limited to the layout of the hab/walkways.

Maybe the issue with doors is they might clip through the walls as they open? But surely freighter ones do the same.
Probably also why other people using doors don't animate for you.
OH! And another thing, have the build limit not count decorations inside.
you have a 100 build limit for the corvette, but then when you decorate there's no limit but its still counting it towards the build limit. So if you then go back to edit your corvette design, you can be at like 250/100 on the build limit.
Which means the only work around is to design your corvette and commit to the framework before putting in any decorations.
((but I definitely don't want them to fix this by making the 100 limit apply to both ship parts and decorations.))

I would imagine the intended design with this is that corvette frame parts count towards the limit and decorations don't. I hope once it's patched, thats the way they go rwith this.

One way to deal with it atm could be to just remove and replace all the habs, but then you have to completely redecorate every time lol

They need to improve it a bit as it really locks console players into a design after adding interor stuff. As far as I seen consoles don't struggle with the stupid complex stuff from modded PC builds so don't know why the low limit.

Me too. I think the corvettes parts open up more options for things we can apply to the ship we love, rather than a neat new ship we will fly for two minutes.
I've always thought standing with guilds should come with cosmetic rewards. Kind of like how in Sea of Thieves they're a cosmetic status of your achievements.

I also have a feeling that they're working on some space content that involves EVA to either do it or reach it. Corvettes feel like they'd be perfect for a hub for on foot based space content
They even can have parts available be based of the conflict lv and economy to decide if more combat parts like weps are available or storage.
What is there for the crew to do on a corvettes aside from things that can be done on a base? I find it disappointing how there is no gunner seat and a limit of 4 turrets(per type I think?). We're flying bricks, I can expect more armament. Although this update can merely be the basics.

Oh yeah, the cargo linkage or whatever it's called looks like a docking port. They could even do something like that that you could 'land' on, without needing a full sized landing pad or hangar

A bay to hold small exocraft would be a cool corvette part, I feel like they've definitely at least considered it already

Has anyone else noticed that skydiving isn't just an animation? It's faster than regular falling and it has a full on glide mechanic. You can go so far lol

I suspected when we heard about corvettes that it might be tech for boats in LNF... but i had also hoped it might mean airships too.
The problem with starship docking is that some starships like Haulers are rather large. Corvettes aren't frigates. I can see a "fighter bay" for a remotely operated starship however.
The boats thing is funny, that's one of the first actually confirmed gameplay mechanics we know of for LNF now lol

The convenience of having what's essentially nexus missions in your ship is great. Especially now you can just tell your ship to go there and dive out the back lol

I wish you could walk around inside a ship before you finalize it. Anyway I'm not too impressed, I doubt I would ever use a Corvette. As a solo player it doesn't offer me anything

Which would just be the same as 'teleporting' out of your ship only it puts you in the floating in space state alongside your ship. I imagine the technical challenge would be to have the smaller ships be able to 'park' in space same as corvettes can.

Go to a space station and infront of the landing pads you will see a terminal 🙂 that or use one of the 4 teleporters beside the kiosks to get to them quick!

I think we will get internal walls for sure, and hopefully kind of the opposite, a way to open out a wall so we can merge habs.
right now we have to put in one of those functional features to close off a doorway, just need a version of that which is the basic wall both sides instead.
I could be talking rubbish, but i feel both of those would be relatively easy to implement? And probably the doors if they're already on the way. Maybe some issue that caused them to pull them for now, I noticed the hologram buddy acts funny when flying.

I am curious what tech is making corvettes work, because i had a glitch where i saw my friend distorting weirdly around the corvette when she said it was the wrong size for her.

I've not seen any changes. oh maybe, they do keep tweaking the lighting. WP1 went one way, then WP2 went another.
in the deep dive sean mentioned that they kinda had to revamp everything a bit to make this happen

I love the new lighting WP1 introduced, NEXT made this so muddy
New ship type = new distribution of ships in systems, new camera data to make offset for bigass ships, new parameters for handling, landing and all kinds of maneuvers, new technology modules, etc
I kind of wonder how long they were working on this.. I remember turrets being datamined a long time ago.. I wonder if this was connected to that leak. Wasn't that from NEXT or Beyond?
I don't think that was for Corvettes, those were for bases. But I do wonder if you could argue they've been thinking about it since they started work on Orbital.
Either that or it was just dumb luck the managed to resize the station hallway for something as big as a corvette. But I suspect they did it with the intention of introducing a bigger ship type.
We have no insight into development process, for all we know they could be working on this for 3 years
The new space stations were leaked a full year before they got into the game
And that was just the exteriors, the shapes you see in space, nothing about the new interiors
This is why I think, tho it's one feature, this single feature was a mountain of work.
And for me at least, it reinvents how i will be engaging with the game going forwards. So its a wonderful addition ❤️
The station hallway is wayy bigger than the old ones were. At the time it seemed like it was just to make more clearance for ships taking off, since they used to clip through the ceiling sometimes but I think you might be right
They did have to change the floor of the hallways to be flat though, so maybe not
mhm. I remember when they bumped the ship sizes up for beyond and the VR the clipping was an issue for the longest time. But the new hallway was almost over compensating until now.
That could be that they didn't want us catching on to what was coming sooner than they were ready tho?
4 flat conspicuous looking landing pads might have got speculation going. And no need to leak a feature until you know you can pull it off.
I will miss the little signal lights guiding you into the station along that hallway... unless they're still there?
Its funny how I theorised a handful of ways corvettes could be made to land on planets, but how HG just managed to do all of them hehe.
Like even dropping in from low orbit. Tho we don't have a teleporter down to the planet, then again do we need one?
I did notice if you teleport to a base computer, it puts a teleporter down for your corvette just in case it spawns out of reach.
You can beam down to the planet, I think the option might only come up if you set the autopilot to take you to one?

Yeah I think you need to trigger the skydive animation. When I was too low and didn't do the dive, I don't think I saw one

A few small niggles aside, I adore this update. Bugs will be fixed i'm sure, but this feels like an addition that's been thought out.

I wonder if Corvettes could lead to them doing Steam Workshop support again? Back when base building was first added you could upload bases to the workshop for other players to import to their saves. It doesn't make sense for bases anymore since they're obviously reliant on terrain shape but importing cool corvettes is something I'm sure lots of players are interested in

These are a bit different to the optional milestones that give you an expedition item. These are usually an optional one that contributes to a community meter to unlock QS items. Not sure if Switch gets them!

I say it because I dont see a reason to give recipe to Atlantid Drive only after speaking to couple NPCs (and yes, Library is term for planetary archives used in game files)
So instead of slogging through the whole storylines like normally, players would load it, get this special quest line to unlock purple stuff FAST as a promotional thing

"Skip tutorial" thing? I actually like the fact that purple systems require some playtime
I dont think it's an expedition thing because this was found in file that hosts "proper" quests, specifically the Autophage ones: METADATA\SIMULATION\MISSIONS\TABLES\NPCBUILDERSMISSIONTABLE.MXML
Expeditions and their milestones have a different file
Also if it were expedition related, there would be checks / properties to ensure player is in expedition mode for them, instead these ones have <Property name="AutoStart" value="AllModes" /> property
Could be a fast catch up to opt into when you make a new save. Could be especially useful if there's another important questline coming up next year
