resetting gives you the opportunity to go to a new galaxy. it does not affect/lock you out of anything. However all installed tech will be damaged. you can avoid as much damage as possible by packaging exosuit technology and swapping to a extra ship/multitool to be damaged instead of your good stuff. though iirc, once you entering the portal you cant swap your ship.

once you reach the new galaxy, you should create a base there (can just be the computer) so you can return if you go back to euclid (the starter galaxy). if you dont reset, you can still get to other galaxies by teleporting to featured bases in other galaxies or by warping to the centre of a galaxy.

if you do reset, the 4 galaxy choices mean:
red: harsh (more extreme weather)
green: lush (4x as many lush planets, half as many dead planets)
cyan: normal, (same as euclid)
(dark) blue: empty (4x as many dead planets, half as many lush planets)

🚨 PSA🚨 Everyone make sure to always read all patch notes. Hidden deep in the patch notes of 5.6 there is this: "An organic version of the Teleport Receiver has been added for use in living starships" so I loaded back in the game and opened a psychonic egg...the first thing that pops up is a living ship tech called "Grasping Tendrils" so I install it and sure enough it is a living ship version of the teleport receiver. Be sure to not miss out on this and upgrade all of your living ships with it.
My main living ship right now is The Wraith but I have my previous living ship in cold storage so I briefly pulled it out of cold storage to make sure it also gets Grasping tendrils.

It makes me wonder what prompted them to finally implement such a feature, but only focus on planets you haven't visited yet. I guess it was in response to the complaints about gas giant systems, but I guess they didn't realize people have wanted a more general QoL feature like that for general navigation purposes

Yep, it's 100% true. You have to zoom in on the specific planet/moon you want to mark and then place the cursor over the image of the planet/moon in the upper middle area of the screen and you can mark it. @glass flare @runic mesa So marking discovered planets/moons is possible.

I was thinking about this today actually. I once played with a mod which let you put down a tower that created a bubble in a radius around it. Something like that would be good, just a tower that creates a sphere around the bounds of your base? and while inside it you are protected from storms. If a modder can do it then i am sure Hello Games can!

It wasn't a solid bubble though. more like a forcefield around your base that you could step through, just to protect from storms.

No because you can't keep a restore save unless you plan to traverse the planet by foot and this quest forces you to get the first living ship from one specific planet. Just get it over with, get a 2nd egg and you can infinitely use that to spawn as many living ships as you want in all kinds of other systems...you will always get it back if you reject the living ship it marks for you and use it to spawn another, etc.

The Relics update just added a new shop, so now there's 7 unused rooms.

There are a few wp2 biomes that are exclusive to purple systems, appearently. They're internally labeled as 'remixed' versions of the wp1 biomes but I don't know those well enough to tell what the difference is

The purple systems are supposed to be respawned worlds saved from an earlier time in the universe simulation, so I'm not sure they are any indication of Atlas's damage

So I'm about to beat the main story. Currently upgrading my neglected freighter to take it with me to the system with the final portal in it.

Read ahead a little regarding the ramifications of "beating" the game and tbh I don't know if I'd even like to just yet as a result.

Seems like the player cycles through a list of 255ish galaxies sequentially and I'm not sure what just exactly the ramifications of that mean to me. I think I'd like to ignore the portal for now and maybe continue on organically to buy myself more time in my "home" galaxy.

I heard it cycles them or something. I didn't understand it too well, but there appeared to be some sort of complication regarding teleporting between galaxies.

If all you need is simply a portal/base to anchor you, then that's simple enough I guess.

The main story does not require any galaxy jump, although it hints at its presence. Everything can be done in Euclid alone (home?). There are just more galaxies available, with some having adjusted generation as you are introduced to with the final interface, allowing you to 'reset' the simulation (galaxy colours). There are indeed 256 galaxies, and it will loop back to Euclid after the last. You're not stuck to a galaxy though, and can still teleport right into different ones as long as you have a location. We recommend building bases in galaxies you'd want to return to.

I sort of like Ecluid so I might stay here for now. Maybe make a base in the new one next to where I spawn to come back to when I feel like it one day and want to explore the new one.

Fixed an issue which cause the suit voice audio to be too loud.

I guess this bug is due to them messing with the new exosuit voices that was datamined a while ago?

in-game, perhaps "modern" Atlas worlds in the simulation have gotten more simple due to its corrupted code or a limited hardware bandwidth. and the purple worlds are from a time before it was experiencing those issues to the extent it is now

Yep all three - I spend the time to store my exosuit modules, before the galaxy jump, I have a trash multitool that I use every time and never repair, and usually find a trash ship I will only repair the bare minimum and go salvage after

It’s a fun slow process if you ask me - I’m only on galaxy 12 but I’m not rushing spent most of my time in Euclid and only recently decided I wanted a portal base in each galaxy

I'm reading up on how galaxies work. Is it true that portals can't be connected to once you move on to the next galaxy?

So all of the portals I made will be worthless until I cycle back through all of the galaxies again to get back to Ecluid?

So it's only glyph portals that can't connect between galaxies.

Player built portals are perfectly fine?

I imagine a lot of players remain in Ecluid for that reason.

I mean as long as I can still hop back to Ecluid using my bases then there's no real reason to fret

You can always teleport between Galaxies ..

Adds another step though, still. You'll have to warp back to your freighter and make sure you leave it behind if using player portals in another galaxy.

That's about the entirety of the "consequences" of moving on to another galaxy then.
