Is this ||Atlas||? At the beginning of the game.
The Atlas is typically depicted as a red pulsating sphere, yes. You can see the same thing in the Atlas Interfaces, just on a larger scale.
Also, this is the designated spoiler chat. No need to tag anything.
i have a question: what happens after The Purge is completed? is it just like an automatic "reset your progress" type thing?
Should I click reset simulation or Refuse the atlas or does it have no difference on the outcome
that is exactly where I am at and I am worried
Doesnt have much difference, none of the story decisions do
so the simulation is gonna reset either way? and does that means I lose everything or does my ship just get a little broken and I go to a new galaxy
Either way you dont just lose everything, but when resetting the simulation, youll be presented with a choice to go to one of four galaxies. Not sure what exactly happens when you refuse the atlas.
But youll also get the ability to travel galaxies, but I havent chosen that one yet, so I dont know exactly. And yes, prepare for stuff breaking
what is the difference between all of the galaxies
like lush, harsh, empty, and normal
E.g. lush galaxies will have more paradise planets
Im not sure about those specifics, you can ask in #nms-questions, but dont worry, youll be able to visit all 256 galaxies :3
i always refuse the atlas and then have to go to the core
Ah thats what happens?
yeah
Good to know
yeah I just looked it up, if I had refused I would then have to take the time to go to the core
itll say like "keep exploring the galaxy" or something similar for the mission at the end
It always does :3
well, you def have to go to the core, ive been to hilbert more than once
I havent yet. Whats hilbert like?
ohhh ok so doing The Purge by resetting the simulation just gives you a chance to go to a new galaxy? good to know, since i legit thought the game would be over once i would get there because of how the game has been building up to that part so far... the whole "say goodbye to your friends" part is somewhat misleading in that regard i guess.
There is no game over in NMS, unless you are playing Permadeath and Atlas takes its hand off you.
And yes, resetting means you get the choice of going to one of the next four galaxies
But you will be able to go to any galaxy you wish later on
I love how Vy'Keen are warriors with occassional immature homour lol
well you deal with weapons and violence all day, you better have a sense of humour
I just thought of how Vy'Keen are basically space red necks (the one in the picture literally being a redneck because they're red, duh) because of their obsessions with guns and big cars/exocrafts.
muh colossus
Muh multi-tool
They appear to feel sorry for my entire being.
A bit condescending
But yeah. What I said is true.
Vy'Keen and rednecks have a lot in common haha
"Intelligence unencumbered..." I'm stealing that.
knock yourself out
Next 4* types of galaxies. They are not exactly linear depending on what you choose. For example, the green lush one would send you to Eissentam which is Galaxy 10 in the list
hey, isnt redneck like a slur or something?
not american, genuinely asking
it feels like it ticks all the boxes for being one
Gray area
Is it?
probably rednecks
Ok I never knew this before. Thank you for letting me know.
I apologise.
and yeah it by default implies a white uneducated southener thats considered to be prejudiced so its definitely derogatory
though you cant argue with the fact that its almost the perfect word to describe the vykeen lmao
i believe the term comes from the fact that the south used to be (dunno if it still is) extremely big on farming, and tending outside in the sun all day would burn your skin- giving you an actual red neck
again, not american, so dont apologise to me or anythin
but i have heard people be upset with that word before
anyway /convo, derailed hard the topic
anyway... 16 / 16 / 16
#off-topic-bond-james-bond if anyone wants to debate it or whatever
Isdoraijung?
i know its somehow related to the abyssal mother and the leviathans
talking about the 19th minute, that doesnt ring a bell tho
i will say i havent done the boundary failures and voice of the shells yet
so dunno if you get more info there
oh nah, i havent done those either yet. im still relatively new to the game in general
i got main story paths done, working on finishing the extreme survival & zoology milestones so i can get the platinum
i know about the boundary failures but havent actively sought them out yet
and! i will say that i saw an extremely old post from like when the game just released mentioning 19/19
so it should have been in the game for a while
got all the achieves done, but i think im only missing these two parts of the lore
got the monoliths and plaques
the boundary failures have something to do with the entity that is your exosuit, telamon, right?
no clue
plan on reading though
for the submerged ruins there's a story about a guy finding a piece of glass
and goes p insane
didnt finish it
i was too curious to find out why laylaps kept calling me telamon-not-telamon so i googled it, turns out he was initially speaking to your exosuit but when you asked him why you call him that, he starts calling you telamon-not-telamon meaning hes addressing you and not the entity within your exosuit
yeah once it took me to the boundary failure wiki page i realized its probably deeper than that and left it alone
so that i dont just spoil it all
...hey you gonna go on nms anytime soon?
maybe we can hunt em together
they're a real pain in the ass to do
since they're rare and you need like 30 something
i just got Everlasting after idling in a cave all night
thing is i dont have PS+ haha
im planning to get NMS for my laptop cause i tested it and it runs quite well
i havent gotten ps+ since i quit doing pvp in DS3 and really dont feel like shelling out extra money just for NMS mp
How would Laylaps react when you wouldn't wear your exosuit?
probably mechanically laugh as when i first assembled him into a functioning conversationalist, i was on an extremely hot planet
so i'd burst into flames
I mean you're in your base or something together with Laylaps and you don't wear your suit. Would they recognise you?
okay so technically you need the exosuit to activate laylaps so if you took it off you couldnt activate him. and if he was already activated, he follows you around like a ball on a chain so he'd see you take it off
Would they follow you or the exosuit?
guess that comes down just how smart he is. his repeating dialogue after all his missions is something like "we're gonna have so much fun together telamon-not-telamon" so im guessing he'd prioritize you over the exosuit
Laylaps says "I'm having so much fun, Telamon-Not-Telamon".
point stands. what would he have more fun with? an exosuit thats laying on the ground in the same place
or following around the naked one
Would be interesting. I think Laylaps might be able to learn so by taking off your exosuit you could teach them you are the one wearing/controlling it. The exosuit doesn't do anything without it's wearer.
I hope to see some continuation with Laylaps. I also hope we can upgrade them in the future. That some of the scraps Sentinels drop (such as weapon upgrades) can be used to upgrade Laylaps and that you can give them stronger weapons.
Such as a plasma cannon
You can upgrade the Minotaur. Same should be the case with Laylaps.
yeah same i was thrilled initially but when i realized hes just something that follows you around and is virtually useless
detrimental even, more often than not i mistake it for an aggressive sentinel when im fighting them
and i wonder why tf its not dying
Laylaps should be able to distract Sentinels.
i was so skeptical at first especially when it expressed that it wants its own name
felt like this AI has become too sentient and will try to kill me
Its just a puny little drone
That's immortal
rude
@tough sigil sorry for all the times i accidentally tried to obliterate you with my blaze javelin
i forgive you

no u
when in the story do u meet laylaps?
You get laylaps by doing side quest you trigger in your settlement
i personally believe that laylaps should do 2 things:
-dps of a normal sentinel. fairly weak, but still something. you're not supposed to rely on it, so maybe its dps can scale with difficulty too?
if thats too hard just give it the highest across all difficulties. if you want a challenge you can turn it up or just put out the flare
-scan random objects. its already doing this, but its scan should count as a player scan. to differentiate them the pop up could be tinted blue
the scanning should be semi-regularly, but rare enough that you should still do it yourself. like a 1 minute timer maybe?
perhaps there could be an entire update around "weaponizing companions" !
add another tab to the inventary panel labeled companions where you could choose either your animal pet (with weapons that can be modified) or a robotic companion like sentinels
but thats #nms-the-future talk
How satisfying!
To me it seems this Achievement is a reference to The First, who defied Atlas.
So, I've been wondering, Is NMS a multiple ending type of game? Or is there one fixed ending? Because there's multiple main quest paths and I've been conflicted on which one to follow
What with artemis, the atlas path, the black holes, all that stuff
There is no ending. Once you finish the storylines, it just keeps going forever.
Well yeah, sorry, heard about that, but I meant is there like one main storyline?
Or a "multiple things going on simultaniousley kinda thing"
The multiple things. Think of the storylines as the tutorial.
o h
By the time you finish the storylines, you'll have a good chunk of the blueprints, glyphs, and knowledge of how to do the basic stuff.
When and how do I get the 16 glyphs from the main story
by uh
doing the story
towards the very end of the artemis storyline @kindred schooner
hmm, playing through the main story again actually...
The hell is Apollo saying here? 👀
[clears throat] Ulv hol neus xannos, kunu. Ulv zoav Ulv hol kuhilu zoav.
Something in Atlas-language.
Could probably find an online resource for it.
He called you a Kunu! You gonna take that?
Honestly I wouldn't let that slide
My Atlas, underwater quest is really grim
It involves the ocean, very scary already
yeah, checked online, either it's completely untranslated for some reason, or it's not Atlas 👀
Never had this happen in my playthroughs. Is this the language travellers speak? I doubt that English as a language exists in the NMS universe and that we just play the game in English (or any other language) so we can understand it.
Has the main story been updated?
dont think so?
also said line's definitely been ingame for several years
one post from Jun 10 2021 at least mentions it word for word
I have never seen it myself
NEVER. And I can dream the storyline.
Speak of the devil…
Btw I really wonder what Apollo looked like before he became a mechanical being.
And what let to him to get most of his body replaced by mechanical parts.
Kinda like Robocop.
a young George Raft
I should create concept art of young Apollo.
i bet his current appearance is what he used to imagine as his halloween costume when he was just a rug rat
I imagine the triangle thingie that's now his head used to be his helmet.
dude had to balance a candle on the bridge of his nose to achieve the pulsating glow effect
probably the first thing that led to him needing a mechanical replacement
i've seen it both times i've played through the storyline. it's when he's going through the portal, and is initially lost. game says something about a pulsating red behind his core. its heavily implied that the atlas showed itself to him and had been burrowing inside his psyche. he does eventually manage to escape, though.
i have however went and tried to translate it myself, and nothing
it should be Atla... but its not
at least not what we're used to
i did search all the tables that were publicly available, and i even tried on other languages in case apollo was secretly a gek or something
nope. nothin.
the only thing i could think of is datamining the text itself and checking if its english spoken in those words (aka the same as we just typing those letters) or it going through a language parser
it could be some of the unimplemented words or something
I probably never choose this option then. I heard you can choose give Apollo the glyphs or not.
There are multiple options but I haven't tried them all.
or could be a fourth language... dunno
yep
you give them the glyphs
they portal to you
maybe you're just misremembering
since there was a lot of stuff going on at the same time
I swear. I have a good memory
I did multiple playthroughs
This just blows my mind
In my case Apollo never got lost when stepping through the portal. Just met the Atlas and couldn't handle it and we contacted eachother at a holoterminus and that we compared our locations and that we were supposed to be at the exact same location except we weren't. That was it for me.
Should I try and revive artemis
No real consequences either way. Just do whatever you feel is right.
I didn't want to but It seems I can't progress when I say refuse
Now I don’t gotta cover my chat
I Wonder when the Atlas finally dies and we will be transfered to his replacement
Okay but like forcing Artemis to live seems wrong
And boom NMS2
But her death was so sad to me
I have let her rest in peace.
You spent all this time trying to save her and she’s just dead 😭
Why do we call Artemis "her" is beyond me but whatever.
I couldn't let that soul be trapped in a simulation inside a simulation for eternity.
Female name and voice but you’re right I’m just associating gender
"voice"?
Idk what it actually is
Looks idk looks feminine to me
Alright.
Fair.
It looks alien to me so I call it it
Just like any other alien animal.
😄
"Voice", meaning phrasing of text.
Also looks like it has space buns
There are feminine descriptions for words in other languages!
but anyway, I did let her die
Rest in peace Artemis. Maybe another traveler will repeat the same process again, and then another, and another over and over again.
Poor soul is dead and trapped inside a simulation, why give them another jail?
At least let them be free of the loop for once.
In your instance of the simulation Artemis is dead after you've let them die.
But you know they're still trapped in that machine if you don't allow them to pass on.
I want my Living Ship so bad 😭
Resetting the simulation in your instance won't bring Artemis back.
Now I’m on the Apollo mission
Go for it.
Cool how they’re all named after Satellites
quick question what was your guys final choice in the story
I purged the system like a good Korvax scientist.
Honestly, when I made the choice I knew almost nothing about the game, including whether you'd get a good or bad ending depending on your choice, or that the game goes on afterwords.
same
WAIT NANITES ARE ALIVE
i think nanites are korvax blood iirc
^^^
Ask a Gek how that turns out.
Crazy that a bunch of short lizards wrecked havoc on everyone
Yeah. Try talking to them.
They might talk back.
But what if you're a mammal?
I kinda feel wonder what would happen if you'd get. Korvax blood injected into you.
Nanomachines son
O
Gek lore goes so hard honestly
it has drug like effects
makes you forget stuff
the mechanic guy does it
"oh god these nanites hit different"
Dear God what happened to Artemis?!
what happens if you dont birth a star in atlas path? seems like you dont get the star seed, and so you miss out on some benifits. any beinifts of not birthing the star, or nah?
my xbox is the atlas
Same rules apply, just a different method
This is probably why robotic fauna are ONLY found in uncharted systems
👀
I think it's better that we don't get into detail about that lmao 😅
Guys what should I do whats most beneficial seeking the final interference
Completing the atlas path
Or explore the galaxy
This is for the purge mission btw
this is just basically going to change your active quest
if seek final interface, you should consider to begin preparing your plan for your gear for a possible source of damage (that will damage any installed tech/module on your active gear, except ime life support/hazard protection)
I see so will they all have the same result
you don't get locked out of completing either quest, no
yes absolutely
now
would be a good time to finish the atlas path (if you've already accumulated at least 50 journey milestones) - but even you pick seek final interface now, you can still progress and complete the atlas path later
Ah OK I just chose 5he atlas path thanks
Oh I have 49 milestones
do what, progress the atlas path?
The last milestone
i would recommend it yeah - isn't your other primary mission now The Purge?
Yes
oh, 50 isn't the last, last requires 55 journey milestones
warps you do now to progress and complete the atlas path - remember, you will need 1 heart of the sun when you go to the 11th station - will also count for the purge, which requires 16 warps to any system in order to progress
why does nada keep telling me to take my time when i try to decide artemis's fate?
oh i have to go to the simulation terminal thing
Because it's your moral decision!
This from the overseer questline I think:
<Property name="Value" value="<STORY_HIGH>-{{ Did you enjoy your adventure, friend? Your expedition to find our orb? I have waited for you faithfully. }}-<>
There was something about the way the Gek spoke that, for all their kind words, suggested a resentment saved only for the deepest of enemies.
But they would not have come to work here if we were enemies. Of course not. We were friends.
<STORY_HIGH>-{{ As ever, I am so grateful for your assistance. Friend. }}-<>
Since the Overseer arrived, I had had a recurring dream, a nightmare that felt like a memory. Flesh merged with metal; a world of glass that blinked.
A planet with green skies and an obsidian moon, a dream where I saw my grave... As I snapped back to reality, there was a moment before I could shake the image, that wound on the world lingering before my eyes.
<STORY_HIGH>-{{ Have you ever wondered what happens after death, between expiration and rebirth? Meditate upon annihilation. Harvest Mordite from the dead. It is the only way to escape. }}-<>
The Overseer had served me well. Perhaps their task would free my mind from these lingering nightmares." />
Note the green skies and obsidian moon.
This from the abandoned buildings, so not from us, but likely another traveller:
<Property name="Value" value="‘I traded with a Korvax Entity I met on Ikdlak. The sentient offered refined rods of Chrysonite as part-payment for various star-mapping datums recorded by my ship's sensor modules.’
‘In the process it encountered the anomalous message I detected several cycles ago. I dismissed the signal as a chance event, a random coalescence of interference that happened to resemble a spoken voice.’
‘In truth, it had disturbed me. The Entity analysed the message in its own curiosity and revealed another layer beneath the audio component. A visual of a world with green skies and an obsidian moon.’" />
I'm pretty sure there's something more direct, but not finding it right now
I haven't played in a while
I know the sandworm and jellyfish capes are out
Any news on the living frigate cape?
After jellyfish cape there will be 3 underwater rocks then the cape
Ah okay
I thought it was gonna be expedition related
Living frigate cape is currently being unlocked
80% or so progress
Awesome shouldn't be too long then
How do i get heretic title?
U think i messed up the mission to get the title. Are titles cross save ?
So i can obtain missing title on diffrent save

This should be pinned. It was a pain to find out without any help.
It is 😄
It just became. Thanks
Yo before you explain
@uncut harness do you happen to have a base in the 256th or 257th galaxy?
I don't unfortunately
Sad
about the different races within the simulation though
The atlas definitely isn't a standard computer simulation
Ye
From lots of the lore, especially archives, they seem very sentient
The atlas? yes, theres a little bit about the creator of it, but its hard to find
Its also quite vague
What does it say about it?
Basically, the atlas was abandoned
Its breaking down over time, hence why it has 16 minutes of functional time left
The purpose of the simulation is to work out why it was abandoned
Dan that's fucked up, it's wondering why it parents abandoned it. Wild.
Creator of nms has daddy issues
That's cool tho
The thing is, you are a key part to it understanding
Does it ever understand?
Not that we know of
Is the storyline complete?
The devs are adding more lore all the time
Oh cool, but will there be more story missions?
Smaller ones, possibly
Ones as big as the artemis path seem unlikely though
About a year ago, trace of metal was added, which dives into Telamon and the sentinels
Speaking of sentinels, what exactly are they?
So it's the feds
kinda lol
from what i remember its more than just abandoned. atlas was deemed to be corrupt/glitching and they decided to destroy it. by sending it into the blackhole it orbits
deemed to be corrupt/glitching because it was showing signs of sentience
Signs of sentience is an understatement lol
^^;
Do you remember which part of the lore that is from?
Sentinel pillars/boundary failures etc
not really, no =S
I feel like more atlas interfaces would be a good start
i think boundary failures was about Telemon, and the Remembrance terminals was about this stuff?
yeah, boundary failures are on Telamon and the travellers
Im lore hunting at the moment, Ive heard about that stuff somewhere before but its not in my catalogue
yep all the stuff about atlas' abandonment came from remembrance terminals https://nomanssky.fandom.com/wiki/Rogue_Data
and re-reading through some of it, looks like i was wrong. atlas was simply abandoned
So do the geks and etc have consciousness or only travelers?
🤷♀️
Up to the player to decide
I choose to believe they do
I choose not because it makes me feel special
Whether they are sentient or not, you are still the most special being in the galaxy
After reading all the lore for the races, you might change your mind
Are not all travelers the most special?
How do I explain all the ppl at nexus (the actual players)
So I'm same amount of special as null, Artemis, and apollo?
The space anomaly is a place between realities and a shelter for all travellers, the one place beyond the atlas
yes
Ooooh cool
Isn't null different tho, he isn't a traveller
Isn't her part of the atlas
Je
He
Who are the geks and such in the necus
Nexus
There's gek and korvax, and vykeen, and even some tree dude
Thats just the devs letting you customise your character
All the NPCs in the anomaly are travellers, not vykeen or gek or korvax
except nada and polo, who created the space anomaly
Yo what they created it? So they are smartest people in universe?
Kinda yeah
Besides travelers
😮
Bro hiding smthn
So they Satanists? Rejected God and shii
You go up to them with something groundbreaking and its just "I know" lol
They see through its lies, they know what it is
unlike the Korvax who worship it
Wym they know what it is, what it is it?
Nada rejected the korvax convergence to join Polo, they are one of the few korvax who have, and of those is in the 2% who did not attempt to rejoin
It is the simulation
Does everyone else worship it?
The korvax do, the gek do, the vykeen dont
Theyre too dumb
So what's the lore on the species, ik the gek enslaved the Korvax, did they do it during a war or something with the vykeen?
Oh their idiots? Lol.
pretty much, yeha
Theres a lot of war on the species
The korvax used to worship the sentinels, until the gek enslaved them
The vykeen waged an endless war against the sentinels, then turned on the gek, who saw the atlas and changed completely, freeing the korvax
And it was kinda like a no grudges type thing? "yo ik I enslaved your entire ancestors for generations. But we cool right?"
The korvax were smart enough to realise that the gek had changed
Yea but there had to be some Korvex that took it personally
The Korvax changed the Gek. They forced them to be different by altering their eggs with their nanite blood.
Im interested to see what part of law says that
It seems that all the races have a different view on what happened
The korvax say that the gek saw the atlas, and changed to worship it
anybody knows the glyphs for living ship in Euclid?
I haven't been able to find a clear answer to this, are the sentinals still loyal to the Atlas or have all of them defected? I know some of them are corrupted, so those ones don't count
Well, the Korvax also saw that "changing of behavior" VERY against what they stand for as pacifist in the ways of Atlas.
They were martyrs who did it, that went against the Korvax belief to change the fate of the rest. Like an "ends justifies the means" thing
They have defected, yes
U recommend reading the logs from sentinel pillars
Is that from one of the plaque lore?
I don't exactly remember where I read it. It might've came from the monoliths.
Huh, if that's the case I wonder why so many in-universe people hate the Atlas, it just kinda... Exists, trying desperately to understand why before it collapses
Some think it's a religion.
Some think of it as an illusion
Some think of it as a Boogeyman
And some see it as an emotionless oppressor
Some don't like to face the fact that death is coming. Hell even mentioning 16 with no context can make NPCs refuse to talk to you
The people who hate it are also the people who know what it is
Well, yes and no
Some of it is plain ignorant hate like the stories of Hirk
Yeah, there's a few who have other reasons
Unless I missed something, the Atlas is just kinda there, tho not of it's own volition
Hirk couldn't hear the whispers of the portal and instead just made shit up
I was referring more to those on the space anomaly, namely Nada
Oooh yeah
Though, if you try to "visit your old friends" they just kinda blow you off
They want nothing to do with you after a reset
Nada makes out that he hates the atlas, but I think he has more of a problem with the convergence to be honest
He probably hates that it's being wirshipped
Hence all the "false deity" stuff they go on about
But maybe that nada, in their wisdom, still is affected by the Atlas.
And hate that they can't change fate
That makes a lot of sense, actually
Even when taking asylum in the Anomaly.
Although I do think it's a bit odd that Nada is priest-entity
It makes me think, perhaps they used to lead in the worship of the atlas
That helped them learn what it truly is and what led to them leaving the convergence
That could be a personal reason to hate the Atlas, when basically Polo changes their entire reality
Although it shows how little they actually know about it, because we as the last traveler learn in the Atlas Path that the Atlas doesn't want to be worshiped
What's funny is we don't even know if we are last.
Atlas just seeks a user... And to not die
The atlas just wants to understand why it was abandoned
That's true, but I like the idea that we are the last traveler, it grants a sort of somber finality to the story
Exactly! And unfortunately, I don't think it ever really gets an answer
There isn't much finality in the story
A lot of it is left up to interpretation
The cycle continues
It doesn't. All it knows is it's being eaten by the black hole
But with it being a super/quantum/AGI computer. 16 seconds could literally be an eternity to it
16 minutes iirc
Finality in the sense that if we are really the last traveler, that through the updates we personally watch as the system deteriorates until the plug is finally pulled
16 minuets*
Also I'm pretty sure it's more than just a super computer
I added slashes!
To be able to simulate quintillions of sentient beings, while being self aware itself, seems far beyond and computational ability
Huh, I thought it was just left on a planet to decay, I didn't know it was about to be eaten by a black hole!
I don't know what type of computer it is, but it's gotta be stupid powerful to run a universe larger than our known universe at once
Yeap, that's why it's creators abandoned it
AGI theoretically can do this. But I dunno
I thought it was just because it was too big and it had essentially been replaced by a more portable version
A bit of both really
That's a scary thought, because it is obsolete tech
The atlas was becoming self aware, it was becoming old, it was becoming obsolete
Meaning it's creators has something Much better
a potential sequel??? Jk
Nah, canonically, each update is like Atlas deteriorating more and more. It used to be very neat and organized, but now interactions are bleeding into the same world. We are seeing more glitches that live "outside the crimson eye" (the living frigates)
I still don't know what they are
Living frigates are glitches?
I presumed they were just, big sentient space whales
Well, a glitch could be detected. They cant
This is true. But I meant what are they in the face of Atlas. Like what simulation error is going on
It's a useful tool to be able to say a lot of glitches in the game like weirdly generated terrain is all in the lore
In leviathan, Frigate flybys were replaced with living frigates, seems like they could be fairly easily detected
Not saying it's a bad thing, and that they could ever hope to catch every little bug in a literal universe, just that it's neat they can do that
I mean, the atlas is still well over 99% functional
Which is impressive seeing it's 99.9% destroyed by the black hole
Glitch planets and stuff like that are tiny compared to what will happen when the clock goes from 16 to 4 for example
Not to mention, Telamon was tasked with erasing while realities
99% out of quintillions of worlds is still an astronomical number
Before he got stuck with us, the last traveler
That's why I was so certain of us being the last, because of Telamon!
Just a different iteration
I feel bad for telamon
I get that, I just mean that the player character, from a lore standpoint, is the last iteration, I think
We are the realm walkers, if Telamon erased one reality, we could just go to a new one
The whole atlas thing is very biblical
Yeah probably
The story of a god slowly losing control or even agency in a world of it's own creation, honestly a terrifying thought
You have the trinity, one
who observes and creates, one who was sent down to be with creation, and one who roams and does the work of the creator
Eh
It also dabbles with reincarnation
And the "seed" theory of life
I think that is just the beauty of the story. You can see many points of reference in it
It's crazy to think that a hundred thousand iterations ago, there were tons of different universes each with their own unique races, languages and possibly even there own differing laws of physics and materials
I still can't think of a world with many Heliosi
Helios is cool
I do find it interesting that almost every person we see in almost completely gender-neutral in appearance
That would doom us all
Iteration Hades is a nice one!
I wonder how much input the players have as a whole on the lore of NMS
That's why it would doom us all
Sorry... Was thinking of Mercury, instead of Hades
At least it isn't Apollo
probably my favorite head customization, looks cool af
not a big fan of the back of it though
and since thats the part you see the most while playing with it, im sticking with the shroud of freedom lol
The shroud looks cool but until I get the right outfit to go with it I can't
fair enough, im sporting all the armored pieces & fleet commander cape with it
black & dark red
thats pretty much what i wanted yeah. the armored pauldrons are the closest thing to it i guess
before i got those i used the industrial chest piece, with a cape it sort of looks like it's what makes it attached so it's easy to get past
I kinda want to get the armored set, but that would require a lot of quicksilver I do not have the time to grind for
The other day I spent 4 hours on one mission because I had to kill 8 sentinel dogs
I literally cleared 3 entire planets and a moon before I was able to get all of them
i usually do just the weekend missions that give you 1,8k qs
sometimes the daily for 400 if they're easy and not time consuming
like building an outpost or killing harmful flora / bio horrors
Which one is Hades?
I looked and only found Ares the bubble head
I mistaken Hades for mercury. Hades doesn't exist
Mercury is roman, in a field of Greek names
huh, you know i didnt realize that til now
that IS kinda bizzare yeah
Fun fact: Cronus is named after a Greek Titan (the father of Zeus) who ate his own children and Iteration Cronus is the Anomaly foodie hehe.
I looked up the Greek mythology of Cronus.
i loved greek mythology ever since i was a rugrat, never found any other as interesting
So I find it pretty humorous that Iteration Cronus is names after this particular Greek Titan lol
and he's hard to please
As you probably know, Artemis is named after the Greek goddess of the hunt and other things such as the Moon and NMS Artemis wears a decal with a crescent on it on their scarf thingie.
Seems like a reference to their namesake.
Love when they put details like that into designs
Where did the sentinels come from?
Also, since Artemis and Apollo are twins in Greek mythology I wonder if that also symbolises something about NMS Artemis and Apollo.
Read the logs at Sentinel pillars.
It explains a lot about them.
Those actually tell you stuff?
Everything tells you stuff
Yes they do.
The nms lore is very rich
The NMS universe is essentially a giant library.
There's not much out there that doesn't tell you stuff tbh
Some argue nms is the 1st true simulation ever made lol
It's definitely iconic
But that's an entirely different discussion
I finished finding all the Korvax words, so now I can go back and read all their lore
Then I'll move onto the gek
I thought you did the Gek first.
I did a bit of gek lore first
Then I moved onto and finished the Korvax lore
So hopefully the gek will take a bit less time
The Korvax and Gek lore are also very connected.
Yes because genocide
Yeah, I'm wondering if there's less V'ykeen lore or if I've just not heard as much about it
Vy'Keen lore talks a lot about Sentinels and Travellers
So we got the Gek, Korvax and VyKeen as normal species
The travelers you meet are displaced versions of yourself
I wonder where the anomalies fit in
Right now they're pretty much the same as travelers except without any npcs since they're player exclusive
Why aren't the species found on the anomaly present in the universe? Are they part of a different universe or what?
They're travellers from other universes iirc
Interesting that most random travelers heads are just Artemis's with random stuff slapped on
It's like Artemis was the first and each iteration after added something to their head
What if the creators of the Atlas looked like Artemis?
Then i hope their eyes are rotated correctly
And Anomalies look like that underneath their helmets?
At least that is the headcanon I have for my own NMS character. That their current visage is their actual visage and that they now wear an invisible bubble as helmet and when they just spawned in their head was covered by a generic astronaut helmet.
Mine plain black. I disabled the reptilian eye look. You can just switch the eyes to "empty" and then they're just black.
Probably the best option
I still wonder why the eyes are wrong on that head
Must be a mistake. The reptilian eyes look like goat eyes now lol
I kinda thought anomalies were the human stand in
Being the only race that seems to need helmets
Humans are too fragile for space
Yall hear anything abt the negative galaxys?
!fakegalaxies
to view, enable Link Preview
No Man's Sky will generate galaxy names for any number you put into the save file with a save editor, so you can see many different names on the galaxy map, but you are really still in Odyalutai or Euclid depending if you go above 256 or below 0.
What's this supposed to tell me?
That there aren't negative galaxies
I had this interaction today.
You just pleasured a korvax
achievement unlocked: space gigolo
You guys 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I wonder if this was really implied to be a lewd interaction or if we just have dirty minds haha
Seriously tho what the fuck just happened? 🤣🤣 🤣
Ok, re-reading it.... I think a korvax pleasured you
I wonder how the Korvax managed to let such a strong electric current go to my body without electrocuting me.
Like how am I not dead???
Maybe muscle stimulation?
Like, simulating the right pressure sensors that we interpret?
Irl people have survived being struck by thunder. It all depends wether or not the current goes through the heart (assuming my Traveller character has one).
Good point!
Yeah, and we naturally generate electricity, just a Very very low power if we compared it to anything else
Idk how powerful exactly the electric charge was that went through my Traveller's body. Judging from the dialogue it was pretty strong.
Now, how the brain reads these signals, and then reads a response based on a pattern closely fitting those signals is beyond me right now, but something I plan to go to uni for
Enough to climax apparently
"As it reaches a climax". I don't know if that's.... literal. Hehe
reads channel name
I think it still applies. We may not be spoiling the story, but if you read this convo your innocence will be spoiled
Yeah and the "the feeling builds and builds ... Until nanites bubble from my skin"
I put the entire interaction here because it might fall under spoiler
Well Disney now owns Predator and Alien. All I'm saying 🤷♀️
Anyways, NMS spoilery stuff before the mods get mad.
I have had "medical" interactions with Korvax before. Another one is where a Korvax sticks a long needle into your brain and extracts brain tissue.
That one I've seen before. That one seems pretty much like what a korvax would do
They're interesting beings. Sometimes they might seem a little creepy with their experiments but they're good at heart and only want to help.
No wre're actually spoiling your milk sorry
By Mechanics it is quite meh.
Lore wise its cool
I was too annoyed to pay attention to lore
I was on an ice planet and couldn't use my jetpack or i'd freeze to death
So i had to use the slow Nautilus
I used the slow nautilus...
Cool in concept, not in practice.
Dreams of the deep... those underwater parts in videogames i swear
I like using the Minotaur for underwater exploring more than the Nautilus. Makes it so much easier.
Who tf is telemon?
you are
suit is telamon
You're NOT-Telamon
We... Don't really know who Telamon or what Telamon is. Though it's hypothesized that Telamon is the one who wrote the logs on the boundary failure buildings, on glitch planets.
Lol we do know who / what Telamon is
If you read all the Boundary Failure logs
I haven't read all of them yet. But the traveller is not telamon
Telamon was || a subroutine of Atlas, meant to oversee / monitor it ||
As Atlas is falling apart, Telamon becomes the AI behind exosuit
The voice you hear though out the journey is Telamon
Oooh
And Google who Telamon was in greek mythology
I already did
And that is why the sentinels are by and large rogue?
But, wouldn't they listen to the exosuit? If it is Telamon.
I would assume Sentinels are doing Atlas' biding and Atlas did remove Telamon from itself
So they don't see it as a friendly entity
The Atlas also used the Traveller, as input, but openly hostile to it at the same time
Imma go read all the boundary logs. Some of this just isn't clicking.
Technology Recharged
Just did my first derelict freighter and i loooved the atmosphere
Gonna do more of these for sure
Not anymore
They started to disobeyed the atlas, and the atlas didn't stop them
Wasn't it that the Atlas couldn't stop them? If I remever correctly, due to the Atlas slowly losing control over the universe
Also, I wonder why Galaxy 256 was removed from the natural progression but not from the game entirely

I think it was for preorder or day1 pepole and later hg cuted the access. only way to access it is getting a piggyback ride there. Its a kind of Bonus stage for getting to all galaxies.
When update ? 🙂
No one knows
5 days
Totally not a random choice made in 3 seconds and actually a leak from my very trusted associate
Source: Trust me, bro.
Are your for real?
Idk, my extremely trusted leak dealer that is 100% NOT fake says its real
So that's a no.
Weird question, but in the part of the main story where null sends you to find data on each race, does the Korvax cartographer always send you to an underwater ruin, or is it just chance?
I’ve been thinking about the relationship between the Korvax and The Abyss, and it would be cool if a Korvax sending you to encounter Abyssal horrors was an entirely intentional thing
It does it every time, yes
Cool
Welcome to the club, how long did it take you?
SHEESH nice
maybe a day or two. wasnt very long, since i played on custom save before so i knew what had to be done.
Nice
grats, got mine a couple days back too. just needed 1 glyph, ported 4k LY away from the core, upgraded hyperdrive and warped the rest
definitely had some close call moments but all in all fairly easy
i went to portal, and used the first glyph for all of them, then it took me like 5k Lys from there. and warped a few times.
yeah p much the same
most likely Telamon's been completely isolated from the system 👀
hence why in A Taste of Metal you have to jab a console with a needle in your suit to access it
Do the Wormskin Folios they brought back do anything or are they the same lore from the worm expedition?
I think its the same. And i think they dont do anything. They just a curiosity or collectible for catalouge
Thanks
@slow hatch could you tell me what they all do
is burning just pirates or is it literally burning?
i'm guessing ancestral has a bunch of old tech pillars and shit around, seren maybe low sentinels and parallel just a mirror of this?
Honestly, I haven't done that part in over two years, so I really don't recall the significance of each.
But in the long run, every decision you make in the game only matters to you.
There's no bad options, just slightly less good.
serene = lush which sounds good , at least if you're low tech (though the bugs might suck)
ancestral = empty and burning = harsh, both of those sound bad
the different types of galaxies are weighted towards generating more of a particular type of planet
okay, I think I'm understanding the fandom a little better now, my browser must have bene buggy because the galaxy type didn't look like it was linked properly but I reloaded and its good
so what has the 'rarest' resources
All galaxy types have all things. Just some have a tiny bit more of some than the others.
ya, i'm looking to ones that are weighted "better" than others
so like more t3 resources so I don't have to refine them
stuff like that
And by tiny, I mean I've never really noticed the differences. In over two years.
I guess harsh would have more planets with activated metals?
good enough for me, red is my favorite color anyways
ty for your help stray and ronin
Ronin's been to every galaxy type
Welcome. Have long, safe travels.
Congrats. You're now past the beginning, and into the game.
just realized, I probably should of done my starbirth mission before finishing this, hope it didn't reset the timer
Pretty much, yes
I regret the choice I made at the end of the story
Which one did you make?
Did you chose to reset?
I've always taken game choices on a personal level lol. Nada and Polo not knowing who I am feels wrong
Yes
You could always start a new save and chose the other option
Reset good
I would, but I've done so much in this one that I don't really have a choice
Makes Atlas better, eradicates the bad
Silly Atlas
I don't trust anything that decides that the Gek will exist lol
Its not our fault, we do not like geks
But their reptile existence makes them persistent in reality warping
I'm glad the Korvax sacrificed themselves to improve the GEk
Gek
Indeed
Then howcome multiple planet days pass?
You know the saying "time is relative"?
Well we are in a ||simulation|| and on the outside its 16 minutes, but in nms it can be virtually an eternity
Or nigh-eternity
Interesting interpretation
That's like reading a warped history book
Ah yes the solution to genocide:colonialism
Oh I just realized that was a day ago lol
This chat runs fairly slow, anyway.
But why 16?
Because not 17
It's 15 and a half rounded up due to bit storage.
because 16¹⁶ is 18 quintillion which is the rough number of planets in nms
my headcanon
16^16 equals the exact amount of planets in no man sky
16¹⁶ is 16^16. Just another way of kf JC d JJ jkkkjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjmmjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjkkjkjjjjjjkjkjjjjjjhjjjjjjjjj writing it.
Also my significant other seized control of my keyboard for a moment and demanded I not delete that. Sorry in advance.
Anyway
thank you, professor
off topic: my first guess wouldve been that a cat stepped on your keyboard
Could've played that off as a simulation glitch. Looks way better than -Kzzt-
are there ways for me to learn about what the world of glass is in-game
anything like a quest or something
if so please list them and I'll see which ones I haven't done yet
but so far glass just seems like a random thing to throw out there that loosely ties into salvaged glass and the sentinels
Base computer archives, abandoned buildings and sentinel pillars
I believe ||Laylaps|| also has some dialog about it?
By the way, is there any significance to -null-'s name?
I'm pretty sure it means that his name isn't able to be rendered in our universe, since he was one of the first travelers, his universe is drastically different than ours, the last
Speaking of -null-, I wonder why he freaked out so much, begging us not to go to the center, when he was the one who told us to in the first place? If he's afraid of dying, why doesn't he just go somewhere else, again?
Or maybe the fact that he sacrificed a lot to be able to see his whole universe, the sacrifices changed him, rebirthing him into a white sphere, null of any characteristics
That is a much better theory
There are a few very scattered sources, but ultimately the lore on it leaves a good but to be theorized
Afraid to die, afraid to miss out, who knows
May be jealousy, may be 'cause he cares about you
I suppose that's possible, and likely, but still a tad jarring. I went from liking him to saying "bro wtf you told me to do this"
"you're going to reset everything, I know it" Thats... What the Atlas told me to do, so yeah, probably?
Honestly, I thought Null was the one who cut open the sentienls for the glyphs
Making him the first traveller in my eyes. He discovered the simulation, what Atlas truly was. All of the secrets laid bare
Learning that would change you to be pretty.... Nihilistic
And by that point the technology for the head of light was available so. What better symbol of "nothing" than literally having no discernable features with no name. Since, we all don't "exist"
That's fair, yeah
But still, the dude didn't have to have a panic attack at us for doing what he told us to do
I mean, he did help us make a device to potentially save Artemis. So maybe he does care for our well-being to some extent?
Like, regretting what his discoveries did to him and don't want us to follow the same path
But that's a BIG stretch
I like to think he panicked and forgot he wasn't in our universe, therefore he wouldn't be erased
Well, he is a traveler. He technically is us
So, it still doesn't make sense for him to panic
Yeah, he is literally at no risk
Unless he forgot that entirely. Or cared for our sanity
Perhaps he was scarred we would reset it because that would mean so many worlds go undiscovered
We all have a guide for this journey, so it kinda softens the blow. Null (assuming he was the first) had to discover this all on their own. And there wasn't an Anomaly for him. He learned everything he discovered, what he is... Meant nothing
Maybe, he does care about discovery... But that means urging us not to discover more.
Then I'm genuinely just confuzled as to what null's problem was
Null and Apollo had reverse character progression in the sense of how much I liked them
I started out not really liking Apollo, I thought "okay, you're just an ass", but by the end I thought he was really cool. Null started out as really cool, and ended confusing, and while I like both from how they are written, null just has a sad and panicked end
Same here with Apollo. I thought they were a dick. A self righteous dick. But he softened up at the end. Null.. was like "yeah, I don't care" to "please don't reset, there is still so much that can happen. You would lose all your friends, everyone would forget you" panicking
That's the one thing I'm sad about, that Nada and Polo want basically nothing to do with me anymore
Well, they don't know you
I know, which is why I'm sad
They promised they would still remember and they were wrong
They assumed they were safe from the Atlas, or at least out of it's reach, but in the end, they are just as much a slave to it as the rest of us
I don't think they are travellers
Because everyone else reacts pretty much the same.
It's just polo and nada
Perhaps they just choose to not like you then? Since you interacted so closely with the Atlas?
Maybe.
@soft island Since the Atlas is quickly losing function, about 16 minutes of in-universe irl time remaining before a literal black hole eats the real Atlas, the simulations are degrading, allowing travellers to meet under odd circumstances that we can control. Hence, we have multiplayer now. But in the terms of the story, we couldn't do that with Apollo as we didn't know how. And since the simulation is degrading, all the universes are becoming the same, that's why the portals lead to the same planet, but in different universes, so we couldn't actually get to them, nor they, us.
@thorny rover “the abyss” is what remained after the death and annihilation of Korvax Prime.
Abyss / Void Mother / Atlantid
She (because mother) was the AI of Korvax Prime.
Say whaaaaa
Gotta respect that too
isnt our perspective of the atlas degradation relative , giving us almost but not quite as long as we need ?
"The Atlas is degrading, but on an alien timescale."
That's what the game directly says, but it's rather vague.
Basically, it could be an eternity for us. Or whenever HG decides to shut the game down
Do the credits ever roll? I just finished the main story and was surprised they didn't given that it sets itself up for the perfect cut-to-title
Credits are optional in settings I believe
Well yeah but the fact it didn't take the opportunity to show title then credits at the end has me very surprised, so I was wondering if it happens later
Hey, could be a style thing. "There is no end, just another start"
but mah proper ending >:c
praise atlas
Indeed
I chose to Reject the atlas in my first playthrough, then I ran it again and reset the simulation, and wow is that choice so much better
Yes, do what Atlas wants
I do what it wants in my own interests
Just because life is a simulation doesn't mean it's not real
What atlas
You'll encounter it later in the game
Just keep trucking along the primary storylines!
yeah probably should stay out of this channel for now
Explain
Reality is relative
What you think reality is what it is on you
For what you think is real, it's fake for someone else
So just because in the grand scheme the nms simulation verse is not real, doesn't mean it is not to those inside it
Okay so what I thought
humans in no mans sky when. :(
Neverrr
:c
Tbh whats special
We already play a humanoid
Question. What is up with this light for a head thing, is there lore on that?
I think there's a little, yeah
It's mentioned in the boundary failure lore
Yes
It's a technology that people for some reason wanted to do. There was... Many sacrifices to get the tech to a stable point
why they wanted to do that? I have no idea, I question some practices we do irl and none are that extreme to want to replace your head with light
I think it's uncomfortable anyway
Yeah thats something I really want to know. Why do this? What does it give you?
Extra flashlight? LOL
Butwealreadyhaveaflashlight
with what people are able to do to themselves nowadays, replacing their head with a rotating flashlight isnt really that big a stretch anymore
Yes, but consider: Extra flashlight.
more lumen = more flashlight
imagine having that for a head and waking up at night to go for a piss
youd instantly get blinded
and how do you sleep comfortably on a pillow if your head keeps rotating unless youre moving
Easy. Grease your pillow for less friction.
I... Have no further questions lol
what you want to do after completing main story?
die
Why is "Aeron" used instead of "Sentinel" in the Space Station Core?
Different names, same meaning
And maybe a Reference to the Aeon Wars
The fight between vy'keen and Sentinels
I think Null's fear of us is because he's done everything and seen everything in his timeline, including reset the Atlas many times over, but us resetting it erases him.
Meaning eventually we will become Null, a traveller will come, then reset us, removing us from existence
The one problem with that is that we are the last traveller
How do I find a portal? Quest line for glyphs - would an exocraft radar work?
Oh, I think I got it - if not, I’ll be back 😎
maybe wanting to reduce identity? its not like we use mouths to eat in NMS anymore, as well as communicate. Nah we can just directly beam words in someone's head. at least thats why i think -Null- did it. other people? no idea. people go crazy with body modification
But we have a form of identity still, the way ships and such know its us
True, but it could be an identity similar to online identities
Like, what you present and acknowledge as "you" online. Could or could not be who "you" are irl.
The ships, exosuit could recognize us as Registered User [arbitrary number] designated as [Name you choose]
What keeps another entity to register same as you?
You mean, -null-'s head?
in what reference?
death
Id say explain but Ill go sleep shortly
easyish. Death removes the registered number that is the unique identification. "iteration 1784t73647632" or something but your username is like designation name.
many things could have the same designation name. but registered identification is different. like your character death spawns another iteration. and usually (i have not confirmed) those distress beacons show the iteration number rather than your username. these should be different, but i haven't tested it.
That is assuming every entity respawns as we do, which I somehow doubt
You're right they don't. But I doubt it would be any different than how the Atlas "creates" us
That makes me wonder now anyway. Are we supposed to exist?
Arent we an anomaly canonically too?
I dont think anomalies should exist
If you respawn after dying you get the pop-up: //DEATH EVENT//ITERATION RESET//
I wonder if that means if we are actually stuck in some sort of timeloop, like in the Leviathan expedition but it's actually the case for every gamemode except permadeath.
Yeah I know
It cant be a timeloop in the classic sense, because what we did so far remains
More like the korvax maybe, but the other way around. Instead of the body getting a new mind, our mind might get a new body
We've carried Artemis' mind around, so its possible
the gek mention rebirths in some of the story
I don't fully understand the whole deal with anomalies, we are travellers that for some reason take a different form
The Anomalies wear the exact same outfits we saw The Dreamers in, in the ARG
What are travelers even 😂
Like I don't even fully understand the concept of their existence and why they collapsed a universe on null?
They are travelers
I rescued a stranded Gek today and I was thinking about how they're cute and all and then a monolith reminded me of how their First Spawn ancestors were fascist cannibals 🙁
People made by Atlas to travel atlas
Which is why never look at a gek with sympathy
#RememberKorvaxPrime
They're different now, though.
Same shit, different day
Will still hate gek until they become robo-geks
The modern Gek aren't responsible for what the First Spawn did. The modern Gek are descendants of the low spawn after all.
I see 😂
I know
Worker bees
But no fun not hating the geks
Not much influence
They just have that kind of punchable faces
They had changed, they are now good, I am a strong advocate that the present determines the man, not the past
But they are. so. god. damn. hateable.
You just think they are smelly
Korgek
They already are, sorta.
Nothing like a little bit of forced eugenics
The wiki, for some reason makes no reference to the fact that the Atlas fairly explicitly states that a black hole is about to destroy it
Yup. Rogue data explains it
Wiki isnt very reliable
Wait what black hole? Either that got completely wiped from my memory or I missed it
Yeah. The rogue data explains it. It can be accessed by entering the backrooms of small settlements and space stations.
thank you! I'll go check that out 👍
In both rogue data entries and the Atlas Path, the Altas makes explicit mentions to an "extreme gravitational anomaly". While it could theoretically be the sun, the way it's written is the same way in-game black holes are referenced.
the oppression of the gek is one of the saddest things in the nms lore imo
Correction, Artemis, not Atlas
Scaly type body, maybe
Could've been a traveller, different type of contrasting aesthetic, you know like Artemis looks different
Fair
Reptilian... Like Tethys?
Isn't it theorized that all the Travellers in the Anomalies existed at one point? And that their races just went extinct always leaving the 3
So i chose to not reset the universe, did i miss anything important?
No
so im at the purge mission
mhm
Did you complete the purge mission?
it currently says reset the simulation
Oh alright
with the objective progress toward the galatic center
Ok ok
You will uhh
Dang It's been a while
I think you'll want to keep finding atlas interfaces
Did you get all of them already?
atlas what? lol
oh yea
i found enough to get to the one that needs the seed thing
I think that's the atlas path
