Xbox Game Pass multiplayer [Question]

I've Googled for an answer, tried Microft, and I have a ticket in with Zendesk but so far no luck.

My game acts like I'm the only player, I have no multi-player options and see no evidence of any other players. If I log into my computer with my son's account (I'm the parent on an Ultimate Game Pass account) I see the full shared experience. I've enabled and disabled all the privacy settings and deleted/added back my primary account to my Xbox series X and no luck. It seems to be a fairly common problem but I can't find the answer. Any clues? I get the green light that I'm connected to HelloGames' server.

Setting up Acivated Indium farm [Question]

I've recently started trying to set up an Ai farm; but I honestly don't know the optimal set up! I've got 3 extractors so far, 2 next to each other and one on top of other. It doesn't seem ideal but I can't see how else I'm supposed to set it up. Any pointers?

Wondering if anyone has seen this fighter ship based on a sub-par description [Question]

I remember that it was yellow and blue with 5 wings on the back. I believe it was long-nosed. I saw it in a space station, so it isn't anything special. I can't remember the system info where I saw it at. I didn't have enough units to buy it, but I remember it being around 3.5 million units. I don't recall what class it was. If anyone is able to find it, I'd like to get a system type that I could find it at a space station.

been playing for over 72 hours so far and I've tried many times to place one over a mining hotspot, just says "resource deposit required", even while sitting over the deposit marker.

1 Year Old Bug Apparently... Urgent Fix Needed! [Bug]

Upon using a portal by completing the portal mission on "The First Traveler", the mission locks your portal and you are never able to use said portal ever again.

If you try and teleport through the NOW fixed portal, you will be unable to build, you will be unable to summon your ship, you will be unable to die. Even managing to find a save point and reloading on said random bug Planet, it doesn't fix the bug unfortunately.

This is a massive hit for me on survival. Please address this ASAP.

Help getting to Innebdjerah [Discussion]

New player. Experience so Far [Discussion]

Spawn in on hot planet, mild panic as my suit warns me in dying. Panic mine materials needed. Panic run to other materials needed to not die.

Waddle my blue ass to waypoint, find ship. Pew pew rocks for materials for ship part.

Waddle my blue ass about a kilometer away to find another part. Waypoint is inside volcano (what).

Circle volcano looking for cave entrance, find none. Uh… ok.

Climb volcano looking for entrance. Glitch through volcano. Find a half destroyed base with the part inside.

Spend about a half hour trying to glitch back out of the volcano. Give up and jet pack up and fall until I die. Spawn outside of volcano and waddle back to the ship.

The ship is now 29 meters under the ground. Cool.

Do google search, attempt to summon ship. Cant because part not installed. Google alternatives. Apparently you need a mining tool I don’t have access to yet. Awesome.

Start new game. Get all the way to the same part and back to the ship. Ship underground again.

10/10 would do again

Question about Settlement Debt [Question]

So I decided to try out the settlement mechanic. The one I found had very little debt. I made a few decisions, increased the debt a little (only a few 10k) but I was able to get my productivity up to 260k, which is way larger than the maintenance cost (70k a day). So you'd think my debt would be squashed quickly right? Somehow in the last couple of hours my settlement has gone from about 9k in debt to over 2 billion. Can anyone explain this to me? It makes no sense and now I don't want to engage with it at all since it's hiding apparently crucial information from me.

Power inverters stop working when I exit and reload. [Bug]

Whenever I load my game up, my power inverters always break. If I delete and replace them exactly as they were, they start working again. This is obviously a bug, and probably something to do with the way it's saved, but I was wondering if anyone else is having this issue. I've seen this issue on other past posts, but I keep seeing that it was fixed, which seems to not be the case.

HUD/compass not showing outside of my ship? [Bug]

I can see the icons on my compass HUD thing when I'm in my ship, but not the circle line for the compass, but outside of my ship I can't see anything at all - I have no idea where my ship is and get lost and it's so so annoying

Can't Join Question [Question]

My son plays on Series X, and I play on PS5. We frequently find ourselves dropped from each other's group or unable to teleport to each other's bases or, using the Anomaly, to teleport to each other. I will join Multiplayer on him, but not be placed at his location even. Is this because we're cross platform? When it works, it is great, but this is frustrating.

Brand spanking new to this game. If I wanted to be an "Astrobiologist" searching the cosmos for the most amazing fauna, what would my "endgame goal" be? [Question]

So far I just got my Quantum Drive and I'm going through the main quest (based on my resarch) to unlock Space Anomaly so I can eventually unlock red planets which I hear have more exotic biomes.

My endgame goals are: find a decked-out S-Class Explorer; discover every exotic biome in the game; unlock all scanning objects. Other than that I don't know what the game offers, are there any questlines or gameplay elements that I should chase after as an astrobiolgist playthrough? Specific planets to visit? Specific quests/missions? Specific fauna/flora to find?

Unable to see other people's bases [Question]

I'm playing on PC, via GeforceNOW. I've been trying to check some stuff using /r/NMSCoordinateExchange, but none of the bases show up.

I'm in the right galaxy, and online discovery services are active. I further know I'm in the right place as there's plenty of communication stations at the portal, but I see no base markers either on the HUD, nor on the discovery page. Even if i venture by coordinates, the area is empty (perhaps with the exception of a comm station or two).

I've tried with both multiplayer on and off, and no change. I'm able to see other players in the anomaly and visit featured bases from there, but no bases aside from mine and my friends are showing up for me (Although I am able to see settlements). Any suggestions?

What Would You Guys Want As The Next Update of These Ideas? [Question]

"Conquest" - an update that opens up clans as a feature. These clans would push player to player interactions, as joining a clan would give you access to a pleathora of new features. Clans could work together to increase their rating/ranking each month based on bases built, worlds claimed, ships destroyed, expaditions completed, etc. , rewarding clan members with exclusive rewards. Clans would be able to open trade routes with other clans for discounted goods, exclusive items and toll-free access to clan-controlled systems. Clans would cap at around 500 players, with weekly and monthly goals for exclusive rewards. "Freighter Wars" - an update that expands what you can do with freighters, along with allowing you to combat other freighters for trade status, world control, products, etc. "Paradise City" - an update that would automatically load 'capital cities' into paradise planets. These capital cities would be about the size of 10-15 settlements, and would provide heavy economic upside to visiting players. If a player wishes to conquer a paradise planet (leading to heavy control over trade, exclusive items, workforces, and abilities to manipulate prices and combat), they must combat a large sentinal force to liberate the citizens. Upon liberation, the player could rename and claim the city as their own, thus allowing them to rename the planet. Drop ur ideas down below!

Capital Freighter not spawning [Question]

I have read up on how capital freighters spawn with 5 warps and 3 hours of gameplay, but after declining the free normal freighter, I have played for 7 hours and warped at least 20 times and have not been able to get the capital ship event to occur. Am I missing something else that I have to do?

I found one that is pretty good and it's in a very good spot the best spot I've seen actually and if not I wish we could maybe if the player hasn't played in a year then I feel like their base should be free space maybe buy the permission with units or nanites so if the player gets on they'll get them

I am currently only using the base version without any optional files, and I was wondering whether any of them would be worth installing, but I cannot find much info on the mod page itself...

Yet Another "Trace the Metal" Bug-related Question [Question]

Currently stuck on Investigate [The Sentry]'s Coordinates. I've warped to the specified system, following marker after marker that has had me blow open facility after facility, to collect the same legs schematic over and over. I've already traveled back home, installed the legs, and have dismissed/summoned the sentry a dozen or so times. No luck.

I'm stuck in an endless loop of raiding every facility in the system and can't progress any further.

Seems to be a common theme with this quest line based on the search results.

Any suggestions beyond just not completing it?

Which direction do I take? [Discussion]

So I've been playing for 10 hours, got a couple of ships, a few weapon upgrades, have a couple of tiny bases but not sure what route to take from here.

Do I: Proceed with story missions? Settle and work on building up a larger fully equipped home base? Just explore for new (potentially more resourceful) planets before settling? Just keep mining and building up money before getting stuck in?

I love the game and the scope of possibility is amazing but I would appreciate some pointers from more experienced players on what route they'd recommend as I can't make up my mind which way to go now.

Series X graphics [Question]

Hey All,

I’ve played NMS on and off for a few years now and recently I purchased a series x and just yesterday I reinstalled and started playing. I don’t know if there some settings issues or maybe my install is bad or something but the game does not look enhanced for series x. I’m not really speaking to the FPS but the field of view and just general look of the planets, especially the water is pretty bad.

Is there some setting I’m missing here? Anyone else notice this as well? Thanks!

Patterns in time stuck [Question]

Ok so basically I'm doing the patterns in time mission and I have done the vykeen mission and korvax mission and now I have to do the Geks mission. Instead of there being a Geks mission agent there is instead a korvax one instead. For some reason the mission in taking place in a korvax dominated system? Does anybody know how to fix this. I can't seem to restart the mission.

Why am I unable to extend my base outside the build limit? [Question]

I'm trying to extend a mining base I've created out to a new resource point however I'm having issues extending the base using the methods I've seen described as recently as May: go to edge of the base and build a wall, then go to the wall and build another wall etc.. to create a corridor of buildable areas.

However this doesn't seem to work for me. To show that I'm not outside the hard limit here's a picture showing my base is 327u away: https://imgur.com/Sz1NX60

This isn't the behaviour I was expecting, shouldn't building a wall create a little area around it that I can build from? Has this been patched recently?

49 hours later, and I’ve made it to the core of Euclid [Discussion]

I preordered NMS back in the day, and like a lot of you, was hugely let down. I hadn’t touched this game since launch, until about two months ago.

And I’ve finally completed my journey!

Well I thought so, at least. Finally taking in the sheer scale of this game, I found that my journey has really only just started.

In the 49 hours it took me to get here, I battled the elements, took to the skies, settled down and gained full financial independence. Even took a solid week IRL just exploring and being a space archeologist. I spent so much of the journey just taking up hobbies and seeing what they led to, getting immersed and lost in the world(s).

And I now feel, staring at the core of our home galaxy, that I’m prepared for whatever the universe could possibly throw at me.

I love this game more than I can put into words.

Thank you Hello Games, for turning me around from the pits of (probably self imposed) disappointment, to a lifelong lover of the adventure you created for us. And also thank you to this sub, it was an absolute goldmine of knowledge and little tips!

giant sand worm [Question]

I keep coming across a giant sand worm type creature on my home planet, it comws out of the ground into the air and back into the ground again. I don't seem to be able to scan or attack it, does anyone know if these things serve a purpose?

More undiscovered universes than discovered universes [Discussion]

So I brought the game 2 weeks ago and I expected like 75 percent of all universes to be discovered judging by how many people play this and how old the game is. But, I keep getting undiscovered universes. I only got like 5 discovered universes. It's like the game generates new seeds/universes every few seconds or something...

Very easy fix to Survival mode [Suggestion]

Please make resources on Survival not just more scarce, but also spread apart quite a bit.

So that when you land on a planet you might need to walk 10-20 mins to find a particular mineral.

There's overabundance of everything on each and every planet and wherever you land at that. Therefore, apart from admiring aesthetics, there is no real incentive to explore and actually struggle to survive. Wherever you land there's an Eldorado of resources waiting for you in 100m radius.

At least on survival, that really shouldn't be the case.

Multiplayer session slots [Question]

Hi :) , curious if there's a hidden workaround for the problem that I'm going to mention, because it's not at all intuitive to me, but it has to do with the multiplayer menu.

How come I see 5 slots, where you can either create or join a friend's session, but I only ever see one slot occupied, while the other 4 are never available?

So if for example I want to create a session, I have to make sure that my friend (who is playing on the PS4 btw) is not in-game, so I can create said session, since we started the coop game from scratch together and I was the one sharing my session.

But now there's another problem which I haven't accounted for, someone else from my friends list (I'm playing on Steam) is also playing the game, and I have no idea how my other friend can join me.

Thanks in advance if there's a fix for this :) , maybe there's an easy fix that I wasn't aware of, but this can be really annoying otherwise.

Base range locked [Question]

I’ve run into a problem now where my base range seems to be perma locked to the regular default range even though I have wooden floors laid out to reach my already established mining area, so I’m not able to expand on it. Laying out new wooden floors also does nothing.

Has anyone run into this problem or found a way to fix without having to rebuild?

Are all gamemodes on the same server? [Question]

Hi! I'm a really new player so sorry if I ask a pretty dumb question... '

I just wanted to know if, for example, survival and creative modes are in the same "universe"/server. Like, if I play on survival mode, am I able to see creative players, their builds, etc... If I terraform in creative mode, are survival players able to see what I've done?

I suppose that it's not. To have creative and survival/normal players on the same server would probably be a problem regarding to the ressources for example.

ship customization [Discussion]

I really hope Hello Games can implement ship customization into NMS. I've had the game on PS4 since launch and finally platinumed it last month, so I feel a little bored when it comes to playing. I only log on to look for interesting ships and animals. I think that the community would deeply appreciate the option to do so. I read a comment somewhere (YouTube maybe?) which suggested that, if ship customization is ever introduced, the range of ship parts you had access to stemmed from the ships you've scrapped. I think that would be a great way to attract veteran players to fire up the game again. there is a lot of potential for implementation as well. the cape we recently received had a short quest attached, so I can see that working well for obtaining paint colors, ship modification station blueprints, etc. certain systems could sell different colors depending on the dominant lifeform, and I could see quicksilver being used as a currency to buy more exotic colors, patterns, or stickers. I could also see it being an expedition. as one of the rewards you could unlock a basic swath of paints or a blueprint for a place to remodel a ship. heck, they could add a designated area on space stations for customization, like with the character customizer and scrap terminal. just a thought. fingers crossed!

I'm one of the starcabbies, but don't have nearly enough galaxies to help out you wonderful people when you need rides to other places. If anyone is online and is willing to let me join in on them to pick up some more galaxies, it would be so greatly appreciated. I'm happy to provide any materials, my ships, cool companion eggs, etc. as payment. Right now I in particular need galaxy #46 Odyavanta right now, but need to grab much more than this. "Exotic Multi-tool" (not ship), doesn't exist on the wiki. Looks organic. Is it alien? Experimental? Something else? [Question]

The multi-tool wiki only shows Alien / Experimental / Royal / Rifle / Pistol, with different stat bonuses for each.

It's class C and 12 slots, so will take a lot of work to upgrade.

The multi-tool has a big crystal at the front, middle is leather looking skin with a green cyberpunk light, and the back has teeth.

Whenever I scan a new animal, I always get 30.000, 50,000 or 100,000. I can get millions in just seconds. I do not know if I want to fix this, but is there anyone that has this glitch too?

I haven't played much for 3 years. I'm lost. wat do [Question]

Any time I've gotten on over the years, I spend my time hopping systems and hoping to find that perfect planet to call home. Now, I'd like to branch out from that time sink and actually play the game a little more. What can I do that will expose me to the content HG has bestowed upon us? I never liked going outside my comfort zone to try new things as the game has been updated, so I'm totally out of the loop. No idea how to trigger encounters, quests or what ever.

Bug or a feature that I don't understand [Bug]

I am new at the game. I'm not sure if I misunderstood something or if it's a bug.

I created a base at the very beginning of the game. Over time, I added new things to that base (solar panel and battery). I constantly uploaded my base using the "base computer" and also saved and closed the game while on my own base.

​

When I opened the game today, I saw that the last record belonged to an autosave.

I was expecting the last save file to be a manual save.

When I opened this save file, I started the game in a space station that I had discovered before. When I went to Teleporter, I noticed that the solar panels I just put on the roof of my base were not visible.

In this image you see, there should be 2 solar panels on the roof of my base. It appeared before, and suddenly disappeared.

When I teleported to my base, I saw that the solar panel and batteries I put in the base disappeared. Artemis Translator was also lost, which I installed a long time ago.

When I opened the manual save, which is older than Autosave, I saw that it was completely old save file.

Question regarding freighters. [Question]

So basically I’ve been on the hunt for a better model of freighter the last few days. Doesn’t seem to matter which galaxy I warp to (even tried teleporting using coordinates over at r/NMScoordinates) but can’t seem to get anything else apart from the long thin freighter to spawn, sometimes it has a circular disc at the end of the ship. I have all the glyphs unlocked apart from one (the weird triforce looking symbol) the only thing I can think that’s preventing the other model of freighters spawning in certain galaxies is maybe not having all the glyphs unlocked?

Introduce Empires [Suggestion]

We already have the ability to have settlements. Wouldn't it be call if we could expand them to create empires across systems?! cackles in Palpatine.

Seriously, itd be really cool if we could enable our settlers to colonize other systems. Itd play like the frigate missions, perhaps we could order our settlement to build a colony ship that would eventually transport them to a nearby system of your choice. You would then automate the expansion of the colony through the capital (original settlement ship went from) to oversee that, the player simply delegates what should be prioritized.

What would empires allow? Well, if you conquer a system (through colonization or ahem special operations), you can collect a % of recourse from that system as tribute. You'd also be required to coridinate defence of the system or planet from uprisings, which successfully stopping any rebellion would cause increased loyalty. As a side note, a death star would be cool..

Freighter passengers and NPC personalities [Suggestion]

I'm not sure where to post suggestions but I believe the devs frequent this subreddit so I thought I would post it here. If there’s a better place for it, please let me know.

A summary of what this suggestion will include:

Making use of the humongous space on the freighter and giving it more purpose

Create a new community system aboard the freighter tying into settlements

Expand on NPC interactions and recruitment

Give NPC’s full personalities with attributes, professions, stories that evolve

Additional terminals and missions

Create an amazing immersive experience

To start, the freighter space is huge and I've added nearly everything I could and only using <10% of the space. Filling just a single level out of 14 I've created the storage and frigate rooms plus just for fun a bar, captains quarters, sick bay, nursery, bedrooms. While it’s fun to create it all feels completely dead and lonely aside from the cockpit. I would like to give this purpose and give a reason to build these types of rooms.

To give the freighter more purpose and a reason to build more on it, I would like to see the freighter being able to house passengers similar to a settlement where they would be walking around which would bring life and immersion to your capital ship.

To allow passengers you would place a cabin room that would allow 1 passenger to be invited to live on your ship. There would be several types of rooms like civilian, frigate captain, squadron fighter, freighter crew. So if desired you could have members of your squadron and captains of your frigate fleet living on your ship bumping into them from time to time as well as generic civilians. With a 21x21x14 freighter size you can make rooms for hundreds of passengers and still have empty levels for creating areas for them to fulfill their needs. 3 Days In And I’m Hooked [Discussion]

Hi Reddit!

I picked up No Man’s Sky earlier this year and have recently dived headfirst into the game. I’ve put in maybe just over 20 hours so far and-

Wow.

This first impressions review has minor spoilers! They are formatted and hidden appropriately.

This game used to be one of the biggest disappointments in the industry, practically a meme. After hearing how Hello Games took the critique on the chin and have been pumping out content upgrades to make the game actually good, I figured I’d give it a shot. Yeah, definitely not disappointed.

If anything, I’m overwhelmed. But in a good way.

I love the mystery so far, waking up on an unknown planet with no idea who you are or why you’re there. You fix up a dinged ol’ ship and start looking for answers on the little breadcrumb trial that is the tutorial and beyond. >! Anomaly Station popping into view out of the ether scared the ever loving piss out of me. !! I’ll come find you, Artemis, I promise! !<

Aside from that, the two little solar systems I’ve explored have been real treats. I’ve found a moon with weird pillar structures on it, a torrid planet with scorched plant life, a glacial world with weird, red water, and a boggy, green world I’m building my first base on. It’s a crappy little swamp shack I don’t plan on keeping, but it’s mine, for now. The aliens in this game are freaky and cool. I’ve seen burrowing colonies of worm things, jumping plant monsters, and basically friggin dinosaurs. The sentient races are neat as well! All this gushing aside, however, I’d love some advice on what to do and where to go past the initial beginning stages! I’ve watched a beginner guide or two now and know a few tricks, but would love some Reddit Brand Wisdom. Unmarked minor spoilers in the list below!

I've been stuck in a crash loop every time I open my game. I think my settlement/base has become too complex for my ps4 to handle or something, and that's where my last save was.

special edition mod idea [Suggestion]

This is just a weird idea I had.

I'm a sucker for a good special edition (I got both the ps4 and pc special editions of nms at launch). I was looking to see if there is a switch special edition and it looks like there isn't, which fair enough.

But what should even be in a nms special edition? We all find our own favourite ships, settle out own planets, tame our own mounts. So I thought it would be cool if there was a mod that pulled info out of your game to make a "special edition" of nms just for you.

Your most used ship, converted to stl and sent to a 3d printing company. Your screenshots printed as lithographs. A t shirt with a technical drawing of your multitool etc.

Obviously a huge job and probably not feasible but I thought it would be cool

New player, looking for help with ship [Bug]

New player here and already running into an issue..The game asked me to rebuild my ship, I did that, but at some point the game moved my ship by itself on top of a giant mushroom that I can't climb.

I already looked for solutions online, but most of the answers mention the ability to climb vertical surfaces with the jetpack. I've done that, but can't reach the top since it's a mushroom shape. Someone else mentioned a bypass chip, but I'm at the very beginning of the game and doubt that I can craft that right now.

Is there a way for me to find another ship on the starter planet or some other kind of solution? I'd like not to straight-up delete my game since I'm playing with someone else right now.

PSA: If you go to the Anomaly with multi on, any player will see all of your base computers in the teleporter, even if you have not uploaded them [Information]

I did not know this until today, so I have no idea if this is common knowledge or not. This surprised me quite a bit, and explains a couple of weird things that have happened in the past concerning some of my base computers.

ship customization [Discussion]

I really hope Hello Games can implement ship customization into NMS. I've had the game on PS4 since launch and finally platinumed it last month, so I feel a little bored when it comes to playing. I only log on to look for interesting ships and animals. I think that the community would deeply appreciate the option to do so. I read a comment somewhere (YouTube maybe?) which suggested that, if ship customization is ever introduced, the range of ship parts you had access to stemmed from the ships you've scrapped. I think that would be a great way to attract veteran players to fire up the game again. there is a lot of potential for implementation as well. the cape we recently received had a short quest attached, so I can see that working well for obtaining paint colors, ship modification station blueprints, etc. certain systems could sell different colors depending on the dominant lifeform, and I could see quicksilver being used as a currency to buy more exotic colors, patterns, or stickers. I could also see it being an expedition. as one of the rewards you could unlock a basic swath of paints or a blueprint for a place to remodel a ship. heck, they could add a designated area on space stations for customization, like with the character customizer and scrap terminal. just a thought. fingers crossed!

Patterns in time stuck [Question]

Ok so basically I'm doing the patterns in time mission and I have done the vykeen mission and korvax mission and now I have to do the Geks mission. Instead of there being a Geks mission agent there is instead a korvax one instead. For some reason the mission in taking place in a korvax dominated system? Does anybody know how to fix this. Which direction do I take? [Discussion]

So I've been playing for 10 hours, got a couple of ships, a few weapon upgrades, have a couple of tiny bases but not sure what route to take from here.

Do I: Proceed with story missions? Settle and work on building up a larger fully equipped home base? Just explore for new (potentially more resourceful) planets before settling? Just keep mining and building up money before getting stuck in?

I love the game and the scope of possibility is amazing but I would appreciate some pointers from more experienced players on what route they'd recommend as I can't make up my mind which way to go now.

But I finally got my stasis farm set up and running. Scattered over four bases, I now have enough automated production to create a few stasis units an hour. I'm pretty proud because it's the first time I built bases centered on crafting instead of just mass mineral extraction. They ate small right now, but have all the basics they need for effectively unlimited production scaling.

I know, many people of sonenit. There are many farms like it, but this one is mine, and I made it with my own two hands. And that'd what I love about this game.

Reset method to find living ship is not working anymore. Any tips? [Question]

I go to a crashed ship, then reset the living ship mission. But it always puts the mission marker 5-10 hours away on some random crashed ship elsewhere on the planet—not the one I'm closest to (like how it used to work).

Is this just a PS5 problem or have other people also run into this?

Is there some workaround to force it to show the closest crashed ship as the living ship waypoint instead of the game picking a random one elsewhere on the planet?

I'm having a hard time seeing how anyone could reliably use the living ship coordinates to find one, if the game is gonna behave like this from now on...

I’ve started this game four times and I’m finally hooked. Artemis died, the atlas died, and Apollo went through a portal where we stood in the same place.

I want to continue the purge quest line but I’m scared I will wipe my save. Can anyone tell me if that’s possible or am I safe to keep exploring quests without fear of losing everything?

RANT: Bounty missions = infinite, unwinnable space combat [Discussion]

I started a new game recently after being away for a year, and in less than 10h gameplay this has already happened twice. I pick up a bounty mission at a space station, fly out to the pirate, engage it, only instead of finding just 1 pirate, I find 3 ships. I destroy all 3, then more immediately spawn. I destroy them, then more spawn. It repeats ad infinitum. Both times it's next to a half-destroyed derelict freighter, but NOT an in-tact friendly freighter that would send out defense ships against me if I were to hit it, so that's not the reason. All 3 ships are always present & shooting before I fire once.

First time I did it, I attacked what I assumed was the pirate right away, but my weapon instead hit a 2nd ship that following right behind it, which I could't even see at first because it perfectly hidden behind the first ship according to my line of sight. The second time I tried to pick up this mission (later in the game), I held off on shooting at first, and indeed there was a second ship right behind the first, so I waited for them to split paths then followed the red arrow so I could should at the right one, but as I was shooting one of the other ships flew across in front of me, right through my line of fire, taking a hit.

My guess (and this is only a guess) is that one of the ships is the bounty target, and the other 2 are friendly ships trying to take down the pirate and I'm supposed to help them or something. Problem is it's almost impossible to attack the pirate without accidentally hitting the friendlies, and once you've done that, it triggers an infinite loop of more friendlies spawning in against you, at which point the only way to escape is to exit the game and then load back at your last save and not pick that mission back up.

So this is 2 separate problems stacked on top of each other. One is the bounty quests being poorly...

A great system and a planet for S-class starships an multitools hunting. Pirate-controlled Korvax system in Euclid, 0BC3:0054:0453:023A. [Information]

Planet Auns, lush, no storms and extreme sentinels, great for getting this survival milestone. Spent one hour hanging around my base at a trading post ( -38.44, -95.21 ), a few ships landed in S-class. S-class Sentinel Pillars are at -37.57, +94.98 and -40.71, -95.55. No large inventory ships and all ships are low slot count.

Does it matter which way a Supply Depot faces? I have an issue when collecting [Question]

I have built a room to collect from in which I have placed rows of supply depots. The issue I have is when I collect from one the collect screen swings the camera view around, sometimes clipping through walls or whatever. When exiting it often seems to face the camera somewhere else and Im finding it super disorientating. Is there a way to place supply depots so that it leaves me facing the supply depot when I exit or some other way to combat this? Ive experiemnted a bit but cant seem to figure anything out. can't build Star Seed ... any workaround? I took a ... circuitous route to this mess. [Question]

My "Path" to this point took Atlas Path to the end but didn't finish the last step prior to: Completed "The Purge" and did a reset (and screwed up by picking Calypso as my 2nd galaxy, but, I'll get past that) Found that my Atlas Path bugged out to where I couldn't talk to any Atlas station in Euclid or Calypso Went back to Euclid to finish warping to the core Gathered enough Quicksilver to start my Void Egg today (mentioning because the wiki for Star Seed has a note that it was updated when living ships are added, I don't have any yet, just that quest) After many hours of trying different things I brute forced Atlas Path (I stopped trying for about 50 hours of game time) by going back to Calypso, creating 1 of each Seed, going through a Black Hole, then an Atlas station. Somehow that let me finally create Remembrance even though I still couldn't talk to the station Remembrance was not in my build menu prior, but after the black hole and entering an Atlas station with all seeds the secondary quest to build Remembrance popped up on it's own. But ... since I can't so the last turn-in, I don't see how to get the Star Seed blueprint. Atlas Path primary mission disappeared from log when Remembrance recipe secondary mission appeared (so at least I finally have my Atlas Pass V3) I reloaded a post-Remembramce save to see if Star Seed would appear as a blueprint, but, no luck on another magic secondary quest pop-up. I asked Polo for directions to an Atlas station in Calypso and ... he gave them to me and Atlas Path appeared as a primary mission again (I'm fine with it being in my log forever and was aware that might happen). I hoped I could talk to the Atlas Stations again in Calypso since I still have all the seeds but ... visited one and no way to interact with the terminal.

So. Any way to either forcibly get the blueprint directly or...

Starbirth not birthing living ships? [Answered]

Hello traveller, I am wondering if I have done something wrong or if my game has glitched? I have completed the Starbirth quest but each time I hatch my void egg the Fallen Host is not a living ship. Instead it is crashed Hauler, Explorer or Shuttle. I have reloaded my manual save approx 6 times now and each time it has been a mechanical ship.

Any help? Suggestions?

Edit - I found that reloading my last manual save and then reloading the game corrected my issue.

Short Range Teleporte randomly changed destination [Question]

I set up a series of 3 teleporter chains all meeting up at a central "hub" so you can easily choose where you wanna go. They are powered by the same power source and each teleporter only has 1 destination.

They were working just fine since I built them a few days ago but when I tried to use them today all the destination seems to have changed. Sometimes it's the teleporter right next to it but in other instances I get teleported to almost the other end of my base.

It's especially weird because some teleporters are so far away from each other that I cannot connect them yet I still get teleported to them.

I did no changes to the telepoters after building them and they were not stacked or glitched either.

How did this happen and how can I prevent it from happening again?

Is their a practical use for exocraft? They don't seem to overcome their downsides. [Question]

Ive test drove all exocraft except Nautilus and Nomad. I'm 70 hours in on Xbox, have multiple bases, but haven't taken the main quests very far.

Is there a late game play style I haven't tried that make exocraft worthwhile?

They have powerful lasers but the imprecise aim 3rd person seems to negate it and I'm more efficient mining on foot.

Their driving controls are imprecise and they struggle more with terrain than my jetpack. Seems to nullify any transportation benefit.

Their inventory doesn't really help since you'd need a storage unit to offload anything more than you can carry. And unlocking most exosuits slots via buying drop pod locations make inventory space less of an issue.

What do you use them for and why?

Is there a way to increase ship combat difficulty or prolong combat? [Question]

I love ship combat. But I want more of it without a lot of downtime commuting to bounty mission givers. The actual combat missions are really short compared to how low it takes between combats.

The only way to really have a long, somewhat challenging combat is to aggro sentinels. But there's not much rewards or loot from them it seems.

And the overall combat challenge has declined now that I have an s-class fighter. I can just turn on autoengage and spam infra-knife. I'm looking for more of a challenge.

Do I need to progress mainline quests to unlock more difficult or prolonged combat? Or is late game similar to early in that respect?

I'm on Xbox, about 70 hours in.

Is it just me or are fhe slow loading screens (90 seconds or more) and monotonous looping gif such a buzzkill that you avoid travel? [Discussion]

Maybe it's Xbox but the loading screens seem to take forever. And there's zero variety. No slide show images, tips, or lore like other games. Just a mind numbingly boring GIF basically.

Does it drive anyone else totally insane? Like, barely touched the travel based Atlas quest line and I am still bouncing around systems near my original new game spawn point. I just hate the boredom so much that I don't travel or teleport much.

conflict levels / settlements [Question]

Just a quick question, does a low conflict system/planet reduce the frequency that your settlement is attacked? Currently my settlement is under attack every time i go there, i could have been there 5 mins before and destroyed the sentinels, then its under attack again when i go back

Power inverters stopped working (again) and my wish for automatic doors [Bug]

So, the power inverters stopped working in my base all sudden, which left me locked out of the base because that's how my doors were wired. It's nothing new, apparently, either.

I don't even know what could have caused this bug - my base is small, and it happened mid-session. I just returned to my base and doors didn't open. I tried restarting the entire game, but it wouldn't help. Hearing it's a recurring issue, I just replaced all my doors with holo doors instead of trying to fix it, only to have it break again later.

And here's one thing I wish that was added - automatic doors. Yes, I know there are holo doors that would serve the exact same purpose, but if we're talking base flair, I like the normal doors visual much better. Also, I don't want the behaviour of normal doors changed - there's surely a need for manually controlled doors in this endless universe... but please add automatic door - it's such a common use case, so frequently wired, people would make use of them. A second block that just is technically passable (has no collision) but animates itself upon player proximity. I know tables have such animation on the space stations, where they extend that central table light, so we know the code to do that is already in-game.

Pretty please.

Everytime I use the mining laser it goes it first person view, is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? [Bug]

Okay so I started playing the game today and everything seemed to be just fine at the beginning, I was using the laser in the 3rd person and it was pretty easy to aim, but now whenever I use it it always goes into first person and I can't seem to hit anything. Did I toggle something by accident? I tried searching this up in the internet, but didn't find a solution, can someone tell me how I can change this? Ignore Building Decisions in Settlements? [Question]

My tiny settlement already has three landing pads and two markets, and now they want me to decide which of the two I want to build another of.

If you ignore decisions like this, do they go away and get replaced with other options? The settlement is already an ugly mess, and I don't want to just keep making more of the same buildings if there's a better way.

All the planets in a system just changed [Question]

Last night I did the Portal quest in the Artemis line (no further spoilers beyond this). Was dumped on an Exotic world, saw what I needed to see, and went to explore the system (6 planets). ALL OF THEM WERE EXOTIC WITH NO SENTINELS. None were Paradise planets, but everything from Hexagonal to Spined, Bladed, and Petrified. I was this close to taking a pic and submitting it to the sub because I couldn't believe I'd found a system with 6/6 Exotics and no Sentinels anywhere.

This morning, I wake up to continue exploring and FIVE of the planets (Including the one the quest dropped me on!) have changed to other planet types -- Quagmire, Fiery, Acidic, Violent, etc.. Even the Sentinel Activity have changed on some despite me landing on some of those planets and not seeing them!

More than anything I'm just at a loss. Has anyone else had this happen??

No Man's Sky VR Still Unplayable? [Question]

NMS runs perfectly on my system with a Ryzen 7 5800x and GTX 3070. Everything on Enhanced/High and game hold a stable 144fps.

However VR is a whole other story. No matter what settings I try to change whether in the Oculus app, the SteamVR Dashboard, the in game graphics settings. None of it helps get me better performance. The game is beyond unplayable for me in VR.

I use fpsVR to monitor GPU and CPU health and both are constantly in the red/orange. Other VR games I only reproject maybe 1/4 of the time. This one however feels poor unoptimized.

Is the game still just unplayable even if you have a good rig? Have they not put out enough optimization? I just want to know if perhaps my hardware isn't properly installed and if the bad performance is coming from my system or not.

I think NMS needs some big changes. Some people don't like the idea of ship customization because it will delete the ship hunting part of the game. These People call themselves "professional ship hunters". Don't get me wrong hunting ships is cool but doing it again and again for ships wich all feel the same is just boring. There are many ideas in the community of how a detailed ship customization can work without deleting ship hunting. This is just one of the many big changes that this game needs. There are many stubborn people in the NMS community that only do one activity like ship hunting and don' t like changes. Changes need to happen even if they upset some players.

I’m looking to commission an Artist to make a detailed background of Apollo (Spoiler Kinda?) [Fan Work]

What;

I’d like to get an estimate of the price for a well done background art of Apollo for both a phone and a 1920 x 1080 monitor. Why;

Out of every character in NMS; Nada, Polo, -Null-, Artemis, the Denizens of the Space Anomaly, and our player, I enjoyed Apollo the most, he was and is my favorite character and I wish he was present more in the game.

Mined materials not going to inventory [Question]

Currently in an area with a ton of gold and plutonium, and as I mine them, they don't go into my inventory. Just to make sure I wasn't crazy, I went over and mined carbon and picked up some sodium, both went into my inventory. I have plenty of space, but can't get these to work! Just getting into this whole settlement content, after building one factory, one farming building, one housing, 3 starship docks, and 3 saloons (sure, keep em fat and happy), I've also been asked to build markets.

"No starter ship" is awesome and should be made an official setting. [Information]

I just gave the "no starter ship" challenge a try today, in permadeath mode.

It was ... intense. A much more thrilling survival experience than some other survival games, as you cannot just set up a base, craft equipment, etc., as this is all still locked. You have to forage, stay alive, and explore.

I got ridiculously lucky, though. After about two hours - having found several ruins, an observatory, a manufacturing facility I could not get into due to no boltcaster, and a few shelters, I found a minor settlement. Great, finally access to the galactic trade network, I thought. After doing business in the settlement, I stepped outside and activated photo mode to have look around ... and spotted something that looked like a crashed ship nearby. It turned out to be a nice A-grade shuttle. I started repairing it and got the quest to pick up the hermetic seal blueprint, unfortunately at a point near the starter ship, which was quite a ways away.

Instead, I bought the hermetic seal from the merchant in the settlement. This cancelled the "get the blueprint" quest ... oops. But after taking off with the shuttle, I was able to retrace my path to the manufacturing facility, blew the door open with the ships guns, and got the hermetic seal blueprint first thing.

I think the only things that would make this way of starting the game even more exciting are having aggressive fauna, aggressive sentinels or extreme weather on the planet.

"No starter ship" should be made an official option when starting the game.

Hello Games, PLEASE Add Starship Storage/Collection Frigate or Building to the game! [Suggestion]

I don’t know if this has been suggested before, but I really wish the devs would look into adding some sort of starship storage/collection system to the game. They could even make it a money sink (100m credits = 50 starship port/frigate, for example)

I come across some of the coolest ships every time I play, but I’ve maxed out my starship lineup a very long time ago and absolutely love all of them, fly them all regularly for different reasons, and can’t bear to part with any of them, both due to my emotional attachment and because of how long some of them took to acquire (I spent probably 10+ hours trying to find a specific S Class of fighter I happened across in one galaxy).

I feel like it would add a new flair to the game, to collect as many ships as you like within reason.. Especially considering I have an unholy amount of credits I have no idea what to do with at this late of a stage in the game.

Thoughts?

About Taming Flyers [Question]

I understand that there’s low flyers (tameable) and high flyers (not tameable). Sometimes I’ll see what looks like a high flyer swoop low and stay there a while, but by the time I’m close they’re too high again.

My question is, should I attempt to reach any or are tameable flyers always guaranteed to be low enough to tame?

"Set Waypoint" for Solar Systems Broken? [Question]

In my Discoveries tab, I have a solar system I would like to go back to, to I click Set Waypoint, which it then tells me a waypoint will display on my Galaxy Map. Though in the Galaxy Map, when I route to the Custom Waypoint, it shows me a route to what is absolutely the incorrect system. I've seen complaints this about this before, though years ago. Is this feature still broken? I figured something as simple as a waypoint would be foolproof by now.

Permadeath Galactic Core Shortcuts? [Question]

It's the last achievement I need. I'm not sure how I got to the core in my normal save so effortlessly, but everything I've seen either requires friends to piggyback off of, insane black hole/anomaly featured bases luck, or a stupid amount of hours. Hi, i started replaying NMS and just cant put it down again, so i got myself a shiny new ship and as i already had the blueprints for all drives i put them in (do i need them all or just indium?) but now when i go to warp i can only warp one system at a time, anyone know why it very @%$£?*& frustrating

super space update [Suggestion]

Add to the planets by the planets having their own map and their own buildable UAVs to map out the area and have kind of like a fog of war but instead of it being war it's Fog of space so that way to know what's there you have to explore. so that way whenever we discover a region we can actually look up back and see what the regions called and where it's at, so that way if you find a certain freighter crash site you can mark it on the map and you can take your friend there. and for say if you made a base it Well reveal a tiny Dot of area but if you put down a UAV/radar then it would show a decent bit of the area around you without you having to explore it, witch is useful for when multiple players land on a planet that is a community planet so that way when another player goes to land on that planet just about the whole planet is mapped out because it's a community planet and they helped out by mapping out the planet

Another thing is adding an update to the caves like this user said link to the caves post

And a way to upgrade our EXO-crafts like have a way we can put down a modding station and a way we can find cargo upgrade models just like freighters but for the EXO crafts and make it to where we can create our own mods for them but they use a lot of resources like a off-road traction mod would use a lot of prefermium and dihydrogen and pure ferrite. and make it to where they have a small technology inventory and cargo inventory. and being able to transfer mods from one exocraft to another just in case if you got a high-end mod in one exocraft and you don't want it in that one but you want it in another one, so that way you can just transfer it from one exocraft to the other

And make it to where the abandoned space stations we are able to go up to...

Is there a way to locate a suit upgrade drop pod once I already left? [Question]

I used a “drop pod coordinate data” to locate a suit upgrade drop pod and when I got there I was unable to repair the hologram projector for some reason. I thought It was glitched after trying for a few minutes and left. I did a second one and ran into the same issue, but after holding down “repair” for 30 seconds it finally decided to work. So now there is another shit upgrade our there I already used a drop pod coordinate data on but don’t know where it is. Is there a way to relocate it? Thanks

stasis price crash? [Question]

i'm not sure what else could cause this. i've been looking through other posts so that i didnt ask a question thats already been covered.

i attempted to sell 100+ stasis devices in a high-tech economy with a +3.9% rate on them. advertised sell price is 2.1 Billion units on 132 stasis devices (going above 132 puts the sell price as negative), but after selling it only gave 385 Million.

what gives? is there a cap for selling a certain amount of stasis devices all at once?

How many Drop Pod Maps to use per planet? [Question]

I'm still early in the game, just did my first Hyperdrive jump, and have been doing some exploring. I currently have around 150 of the Navigation Data items and was thinking about changing them in for Drop Pod Maps in order to open up my inventory. Is there a certain number I should only use per planet or just keep using until it says Nothing Found? I know the maps to find manufacturing buildings are great too but I feel that opening up my inventory more would be more beneficial. Am I wrong in this assumption?

Can't find any sentinels at all [Question]

I just got No Man's Sky and I can't find any sentinels, It says I'm on a "sentinel aggressive" planet but I still can't find any sentinels, I've tried shooting at animals and still nothing.

One thing worth mentioning is that I'm still on the mission "awakenings", I don't know if it's because I haven't progressed in the game enough or it's just bugged.

Massive stuttering only around active hydro trays and planters. [Question]

This is a weird glitch/bug/idkwtf.

For the sake of ruling out performance issues, I'll note that my rig is an i9-10900K, RTX 3070, 32GB DDR4. Running the game on Enhanced, Quality DLSS, @ 1440p, averaging ~100-145fps. NMS is installed on an M.2 drive as well.

The issue: when connecting two hydroponics trays and two standing planters to electricity, my frames halve and I get massive whole-second stutters every 2-3 seconds. But it doesn't happen consistently. I'm not sure what triggers it but I do know that cutting the lines running to those four objects immediately corrects the frames/stuttering.

Beyond that, I have no issues. Game runs fine. I've only encountered this a handful of times but tonight was the worst scenario as previous fixes — rebooting the game and/or my PC — weren't working. It wasn't until I randomly tried removing the electricity from those objects that I noticed they were the culprit.

I've also tried verifying the integrity of the game files multiple times.

Perhaps it's electricity overall? Maybe a concentration of electricity? I only have two batteries, three storage containers, two lamps, and those four objects connected to electricity in a three-floor vertical building with those objects spread out.

Anyone have any thoughts on this... unique issue?

Better way to keep track of ships per system than Screenshots? [Question]

So I finally got NMS this steam summer sale and have been having a blast. I seem to be in a good spot now with my frigates starting to pull in money and some mining bases coming online.

So I want to start looking for cool new ships to add to my fleet. I have read the wiki and (mostly) understand the ship spawning stuff. The question I have is if there is any sort of companion program or something that can keep track of what ships spawn in a system, with the models of them? Or is the only real option to just take screenshots and record what system it was found in?

Space Rescue Mission Not Triggering [Question]

I'm trying to get my first freighter with space rescue, when the mission first started after warp I jumped into the space station to save but when I exit the station, pirates are gone. So I warp into another system, warp back and mission starts again, this time I destroy pirate ships, captain invites me to bridge. I land into freighter, check the class, it was a C Class so without going to bridge, i leave the freighter and warp into another system to try again. But now, wherever I warp, rescue mission doesn't trigger anymore. I warped more than 10 times, system to system but it doesnt start. Any help would be appreciated.

Am I addicted to ship hunting? [Question]

so I have around 150 hrs on one save and have just filled up my 9 ship slots and maxed out all the upgrades how i like them. How to scan everything on a planet? [Question]

So is there a "trick" or something. Like how do I find what I have left to scan. Both the number of things, and where they are. Like sometimes the number shows up like 12/15 or whatever under fauna, but other times it does not. If it's a "not" does that mean full or I have to scan a minimum amount to know the total etc.

More importantly is there a way to "track" or "scan" down something?

Like sometimes it seems I've scanned everything and then some random stalagmite in an area I've checked over and over, is suddenly scannable and "new" even though it has the same stuff as the surrounding ones.

More thoughts on Legacy NMS, v1.09(on PC), Part I [Discussion]

I have been playing the most updated build of 1.00 for quite a few hours, and have some thoughts to share on it.

For those who don't know, v1.09 was the last patch of the "Release" era of Legacy NMS. "Legacy" means anything prior to NEXT, which practically reinvented several of the game's mechanics.

Now, onto my impressions and experiences:

Wow, this game has come a very long way, but had a solid foundation at the start. While much has changed since its controversial release, there is still something to be said about playing 1.0X ("X" symbolizes any of the patches). Yes, it is barebones in several aspects, but offers a fairly unique atmosphere and self-contained gameplay loop. Many of the quality of life features that we now take for granted, were nowhere to be found in this version (more on those in a moment), presenting a distinct challenge.

Inventory management wasn't as generous as it is now, due to more limitations on how much of a resource could be carried in a single stack, requiring careful planning. In some ways, early NMS could be characterized as having more of a focus on exploration and survival, if only because of the limitations at the time. Sentinels are present, but do not pose quite as much danger as they do now, especially for newer players (we can thank the Sentinel update for that). Technologies can still be upgraded, but the modules seem to be less plentiful. They are likely to be found in those small buildings at outposts, when interacting with the machines that now give Nanites.

Yes, 1.0X lacks many of features or staples we have been enjoying for years, which may or may not be to the player's detriment. These include:

• a quick menu for recharging technologies and summoning craft

• base building

• Terrain Manipulator (the Mining Beam sort of has this functionality built-in for certain resource deposits)...

Need help contacting someone. [Question]

I was playing nms the other day (14th) and found out that someone had made a base on the main planet i use. And they made the base literally the day before (13th) or at least edited it. Since then i have made a base next to theirs, trying to contact them. I have made a tower, put down some message modules. In the message modules i told them to add me on steam and if not then make a message module. But no answer.

And also, they have arrived at their base nearly daily since then, just at a different time i go on. So either they don't notice what i have made or maybe just don't understand it? Does anyone know a good way i could use to contact them?

building in a freighter [Question]

I have just returned to the game and I want to start building my freighter. Since I last played, the building system has changed. I tried to delete rooms in the freighter which I thought you could do. However, it juts placed a wall chunk and limited the space in the freighter. Thinking of getting this game for my birthday because my fascination has grown with every update.

It's such a vast, never-ending game in principle that I figured I can still play it now on PS4 and have more to explore when I get a PS5.

Black hole location [Question]

So I asked Polo for a black hole location and he marked my map. I have been following that purple line for ever, something like 25 jumps and have in fact gotten about 15k ly closure to the galaxy center, but still no black hole. Is this normal and is there a way to see where the path ends on the galaxy map? The map only paths jumps my ship can make, about 1k ly and doesn't go beyond. Thanks.

Newish to the game what should be my first priority? [Question]

I've been playing the game for couple of weeks now. Mostly just chilling in the local star cluster I started in gathering resources and upgrading my suit thru finding pods exploring the planets. Been to around 15 - 20 systems. I just got to my first system where it wasn't discovered by me. I didn't even realize that the discovered by wasn't just something that shows that you discovered it, but who found it first.

Blew my mind!

I figured Euclid was probably pretty played thru with the game being so old, but to have my own little corner is really cool.

How much action and danger is there? [Question]

I'm a potential returning new player to NMS, and I was wondering what the game is currently like when it comes to hostile creatures, Sentinels, pirates, weaponry and pvp between players.

Are there varied types of hostile lifeforms now? Or are they still pretty infrequent?

How much of a threat do Sentinels and pirates pose? Are they pretty common and active on planets and in space?

Are fleet battles even a thing now?

Are capital class ships capable of being outfitted with much weaponry? Is there even a reason to?

Is pvp xonflict or raiding any good now?

Do you guys think all these build limits will ever be increased? [Discussion]

With so much game growth, do you guys think HG will ever increase the build caps?

I’ve been over my terrain allotment for a long while. Last Thursday mid build I went over the max parts/per base and ended up leaving the base incomplete. Now today I reached my global build limit for the save.

All these restrictions are really frustrating.

For me, it burns the save. I see no reason to continue with the save knowing I can’t build anything else after investing almost 300 hours into 12 Farms. The worst part is there is no indication until you’re over these limits.

Anyone else want HG to take the chains off?

13-days trip to Eissentam after 7th Exp. survival :) [Screenshot]

It started after new info that majority lush/paradise planets in Permadeath and even just survival mode here are usually either with agressive sentinels, or with the boiling storm-rains. So just during the Seventh Expedition final days, after finishing all the "Leviathan" stuff, my Vy'keen made first Core-jump...

First experience of mass-repairing taught me to have the spare multi-tool just for such cases and spare starship, which is not a pity to spoil. So it was a good idea. Another good idea was to find the nearest Alien Portal and use the address like "0800:007F:07FF:0000" to access the Core systems.

does anyone know if there's a combat update coming? cause it's rather dull

this is just me ranting I really just wanna know if there's ever gonna be a proper combat update

fyi: I did play on normal but I don't expect much from survival other than more things attacking you and just having more health and damage output, making combat even more tedious

aim assist in space for pc is annoying and enemy ships flying in your face at all times makes it especially dull since the best way to fight is to just stay in 1 place and turn to face them like a stationary turret, it's just point and click in the most literal form possible for space combat, if you keep moving their weird pathfinding will make it very difficult to keep them in your sights as they'll keep turning to fly in your face or will simply fly around you, starship weapons are extremely short ranged as well which makes this even worse, space stations are completely invulnerable, like bro at least have one get attacked by pirates every now and then, let us find damaged stations, or ones undergoing repairs

ground combat as well, sentinels have barely any AI and you become invulnerable to them when you enter a building, but you can still attack them so they essentially turn into flying loot boxes (that fly towards you just to get shot at without being able to see you), walkers as much as they are supposed to be a final boss of a sentinel force on a planet are really weak, inaccurate and have broken pathfinding causing them to stomp around for eternity once you break their legs, breaking their brain armor makes them fire VERY slow projectiles which you can literally just side step, no dodging required, only thing that's cool about them is their stomps getting exponentially louder as they get close to you, which they avoid doing for an unknown reason, like come on let it kick me into the stratosphere is that so hard?

7 Months Noob Question [Question]

Been playing for 7 months, well into the game. I have my ferrite loop going and never run out of ferrite dust, pure ferrite or magnetized ferrite. Tons of all three, including my rusted metal. I have tons of oxygen and activated indium to keep the loop going.

So a 2 year old bug (at least) still not fixed? WTF [Bug]

So I just had the fun thing of trying to rebind my middle mouse button since my middle mouse "button" is just a scrollwheel NOT A GODDAMN BUTTON.

And guess what? It wouldn't rebind. Because HG, in their infinite wisdom, still has a bug where it won't let you rebind the key. Almost.

According to a post I read here, on Reddit, on this very sub FROM TWO FUCKING YEARS AGO, you had to continue to hold the key after it is bound, and move the mouse AWAY from that field.

And it works.

So tell me, how in the damn hell this bug has been a thing for allllll these patches after 2 years and still isn't fixed? WTF are you doing over there? Do you even have a damn QA? Is it possible to complete both The Atlas Path and Artemis quests? (2022) [Question]

I read that there is a couple bugs which inhibit people from completing both quests. Were these ever patched? Do I have to complete my quests in a specific order? What's the difference between the variations of GameStart_LushWalk? [Question]

As some of you probably know, the song that plays on a new save when you get the coordinates for your starship (although I'm not sure if this is still the case?) is called "GameStart_LushWalk" in the game files. (It's a really beautiful track too.) But for some reason there's also two other files, titled "GameStart_LushWalk_Front" and "GameStart_LushWalk_Rear" respectively. I'd appreciate it a lot if anyone could point out the differences between them. my ears suck at this lol

The New Emoji 💪 [Discussion]

In the past all of the update emoji’s have been either a literal feature for the update (Gun for the combat one, pirate flag for outlaws etc.) or they have been a bit more abstract (Orange for Origins, the eyes for Frontiers etc.) I always love the speculation the follows after one of these tweets and I just wanted to throw my hat in the ring on what I think it could mean.

The flexing arm could be representing an update centering around melee combat or new equipment like I’ve seen some people talk about already but I think it could represent a much broader update focusing on many areas that need improvement. Quite generally around this time Hello Games drops a substantial overhaul update like Atlas Rises (Which had the best ARG I’ve ever experienced with a game) or NEXT and with the six year anniversary coming up I don’t want to get my hopes up for a large overhaul but I would be thrilled if that was the case.

I think the arm could be a symbol representing the hard work that has gone into the development of the game and the update could focus on a lot of the areas they have been fleshing out recently. I’m not sure what the update could be named but I would love to see overhauls centering around the overall smoothness of the game. I’ve been playing since day one and I have loved every second of this game but my biggest complaint is how the world feels. Everything can feel very static with how we are able to interact with the world and npc’s and finding someway to make the world feel much more engaging would be incredible for a game like this.

I do also hope movement and the ui becomes a bit smoother as well. New ways to traverse the many worlds of this game would be amazing. I’m thinking about things like a slide or a grappling hook mechanic that could make navigating the planets much more engaging along with making things in the world feel as though they have a more...

Fps problem [Question]

Hi. I just installed the game and I am bothered by the terrible drops in fps. The game is about 60 fps at maximum / high graphics settings. However, every 20 seconds or so, the frame rate drops to 5-15 frames per second. Changing the graphics settings doesn't help. Can it be solved?

Lighting issue [Question]

Freighters can be piloted and have new tech for freighter weapons and Frigate turrets.

New base parts for freighters such as glass rooms and tall open spaces and doors leading to the exterior where you can customize the deck.

Living frigates become available (different design) via a quest/quicksilver purchase.

Freighters battles between factions. Factions/races can take over systems and replace npcs while changing industry and crime.

Sentinels and outlaws can take over systems.

Travellers can hack station cores and defeat several waves of warships before claiming a station to themselves.

Rival factions you have low standing with will try to take over your systems.

Derelicts are overhauled with new rooms, stories, enemies, and treasures.

Travellers can land on Asteroids which are much larger and been overhauled. Bases can be built on them. Asteroids also provide more unique resources and encounters.

And finally, players can customize their starship colour.

It's that time again, so here are some tips for newer players and reminders for veterans [Information]

One thing that many people do not know, or don't think about much, is that HG is a very small studio--an indie studio, by scale--and this means they have very little formal "official" QA as players generally define the term. This means update days, while exciting, regularly come with no small amount of minor, moderate, and major issues.

Historically: 80% of the issues will be minor--missing text strings, titles that don't unlock properly, the return of the "rare item from frigate expedition locks you into the terminal" bug, graphical glitches that don't affect gameplay, and the like. Easy workarounds, mildly annoying, bug them and forget about them because they're weird but not gamebreaking. 15% of the issues will be moderate--uncompleteable missions, spawning on top of space stations when teleporting, falling out of freighters (again), and issues that will usually force you to reload to get around them. 5% of them will be major--system crashes/lockups, completely broken or unstartable missions, severe graphical issues, flying through space stations and the Anomaly without landing, exploitable glitches, and potentially save-corrupting bugs among them. These issues are the type that don't have workarounds and that we have to wait for hotfixes to resolve.

It's not all bad, though. HG are extremely quick to patch reported bugs, and we usually see the first hotfix within 24 hours of the update going live, so if you see a bug, report it. Drop the details (system, version, symptoms) in the pinned Weekly Bug Report thread--if you see someone's posted a similar bug to yours, upvote theirs instead. Also put in a Zendesk ticket. You'll only get an automated reply and no follow-up, but that's fine--it's important they get a handle on how severe a bug is, and the more people...

low orbit base building help [Question]

So earlier today i built a "ladder"of sorts to so how high up i could get. Just a series of small walls until i couldnt reach anymore, than a platform. It worked great and i was amazed at how i got, sadly not higher than my freighter haha.

I came back to my build and started linking the platforms with teleports (i had already dragged power up). But now not even a third of the way up it wont let build anything other than base comps refiners exotic decos etc.... Just like it had when i reached the tippety top.

I tried uploading again but that didnt help. Any ideas? Xbox if that matters

Alien-type multi-tools show up as exotic, is it normal? [Question]

Mining beam malfunction... [Bug]

So I'm playing the game, and about 20 minutes in, I go to mine something and what is normally a ~100-160 power mining has spontaneously dropped down to ~60-100 as though none of my S-class mining beam mods even exist. I haven't installed or uninstalled anything. I'm it's on console so no games mods. No recent updates. No changes in mission. I've tried reloading. Much earlier saves. New planet. New solar system. Warped. Teleported. Switched tools and back again. Nothing seems to work. I might try to hard save, then uninstall and reinstall all new S-class mods and auto save and see if I can work something out from there, but honestly I can't figure this one out. Really hoping somebody here can show me that I'm just being dumb and it's actually real simple. I'm 120+hrs into this particular save and it's not really necessary to mine things anymore but damn is it annoying.

An interesting idea? 3D subterranean abandoned mine maze base? [Build]

So, I know that removing too much terrain for your base will cause it to be filled in again if you reload the world.

So my thinking is, you remove a small mountain worth of material underground or into the side of a hill. In the giant cavity you create a 3 dimensional maze, tunnels going everywhere, multiple levels, dead ends and red herrings, cool thing at the end maybe. You'd have to do it all at once because my thinking is once you reloaded the map, all the tunnels would be filled back in. Then the game would be to have other players excavate their way through this "abandoned" mine and try to find their way through.

Inspiration for this is me watching alot of different people explore old abandoned mines. If I were to build this, I would try to recreate/mimic what all I see on those videos. I'm hesitant though because I've never really built big bases when I've previously played this game.

Other source of hesitancy is I'm not sure if this is even possible to pull off. So, is this idea feasible? Has anyone built something like this before? How big could you get this? Would you put a prize and the end? If so, what should it be?

I came across a crazy field of just a ton of navigational data. I'm like 4 hours in. I know you can trade them on the space station. Inventory is killing me in this game. Should I just trade like all 40 data for different points of interest? I imagine they will all show on this planet? Is there any other use for them that I should save them. I'm a hoarder in games. How do you find ships in a system with no space station or trade outposts? [Question]

I portal'd to a system to find a ship posted to r/nmscoordinateexchange and I'm definetly in the right system. I've done planetary scans and only come up with one distress signal that had actually no ship or pilot to be found. Other planetary scans just do nothing and I've reloaded my autosave a few times now. Currently sitting in the docking bay of my freighter hoping a ship decides to land.

Just looking for tips as I really want this ship.

VR Performance is Poor with a 3070 Ti [Question]

Title says it all. I have a 3070 Ti, up to date graphics drivers, etc. I used to play NMS VR all the time on my 1070 with a 2600, now my R5 5600x and 3070 Ti have constant stuttering and it's nauseating. I think I found a new Nanite dupe method [Video]

A while ago I noticed something while playing around with portable refiners. I discovered a way to infinitely pick up processed nanite clusters when trying to pick up the refiner while my inventory was full in a specific way.

At first I couldn't recreate this glitch, but after some experimentation I discovered how to perform it reliably. You only need one portable refiner, a material that processes into nanite clusters and some junk to fill up your inventory. What's cool about this dupe is you can do it while afk.

Because I couldn't find anything about the dupe I recorded myself performing it and made a video explaining how it's done. Making video's isn't something I normally do so don't expect quality.

A quick explanation in text:

*Place a portable refiner and add carbon and something you can process into nanite clusters. Start processing.

*After processing remove unprocessed material from input (if there's any left) and add another material into the refiner's input. make sure that same material isn't in your general suit inventory. If it is, move it to cargo. Your refiner now contains: carbon(fuel), a material that isn't in your general inventory(input), and nanite clusters (output)

*Remove carbon from general inventory (into cargo)

*Split item stacks to fill up your general inventory, but leave 2 spaces empty!

*Split item stacks to fill up you suits cargo inventory. Leave no spaces empty.

*Try to pick up the refiner. If done correctly you get a full inventory message when trying to pick it up. The refiner and the items within will be unchanged, but the nanites will be added to your characters total! You can now repeatedly try to pick up the refiner for infinite nanites.

*Bonus: rebind your pickup key and put a weight on it to automate the pickup process.

Derelict freighter defence turrets as buildable base parts? [Question]

Whilst exploring and checking out other players’ planetary bases, I came across one covered in the automatic defence turrets found in some derelict freighters (I didn’t think to take a screenshot at the time, sorry).

I thought it would be an awesome base building part to have, but I can’t find any info on it at all.

Does anyone know if it’s a legitimately salvageable item or if it’s only available through non-console mods/save editors?

Yesterday I was too opimistic...

Entering 10th galaxy (Eissentam) through the Core-jump I received white death-screen with the background soundtrack for some seconds, and then game crushed..

It happened thrice from then.

I visited other systems to resave and repeated Core-Jump out of Eltiensleen -- and got a game-crush again. Do anybody knows such an issue?

Is there a way to not show mined deposits on analyzer? Maybe a mod? [Question]

Something like not show anymore when it's below 10%? Or any other way?

I'm not totally up to date with all the recent changes to the game

Googling around, I found that we can use the flattening and refill to make it easier to fully mine the deposits. I just tested and it works, doesn't show on analyzer anymore when the deposit is 100% depleted. But that is too time-consuming

Greetings! My husband and I just got nms this weekend. We have played through the tutorial, upgraded our ships, have a home base, are upping our reputation with the lovely alien folk. He is out galaxy hopping, and I am exploring my little planet, enjoying the local wildlife. lol we are absolutely obsessed with this game so far. He happened upon some galaxy with a space station that was selling banned upgrades and equipment. lol he also found somewhere that allows you to go bounty hunting basically. We only have about 10 hours into the game and there already seems like there's so much to uncover and do. SO.. I wanted to ask you guys what your favorite activity is in this game.. especially if it isnt something that was established or presented to the player early on. :)

Game changes refresh rate [Bug]

As title says, everytime I launch the game, my refresh rate resets back to 60Hz from 165Hz. I've looked online and haven't found a solution that works yet. No other game does this as well

Journal Entry Day 1 [Discussion]

I woke up in hell.

From the moment i regained consciousness after the crash i have had to spend every moment struggling to survive.

Sodium, o2 they are my Gods. I am nothing without them. They are my everything.

When not practising my newfound religion i find myself hunting for things.

UPDATE 2: I located my ship. Its in disrepair. Fortunatly my Gods permit me to find that which lets me repair it but i have to work for it. Show my Devotion.

UPDATE 3: I located a habitation. The residents are gone the interior disturbed. They were not penitent enough. They were Unworthy. They left minor supplys. The Devout shal be rewarded.

UPDATE 4: I located Sentinels. They have come with no will to submit to the gods. They choose violence. I must unmake them. But they come in numbers unsuited for one lowly soul to cleanse.

UPDATE 5: I have located a knowledge stone. The gods have seen my dedication and seen fit to bless me with a word. I have learned Traveler. My devotion has cone with a true gift. The ability to shape the land. My multitool now permits me to shape the land around me. The gods eased my plight i have been baptised in the rains enough now i may retreat below ground for solace. Closer to the roots of my gods.

UPDATE 6: I have been again blessed. They have lead me to a grove containing a vast quantity of Albumen perals. I collected them and set out to return to the ship. I also recieved a revalation to spread the knowledge of NaO2 to the masses. I must visit a Spacestation.

UPDATE 7: My time landbound has left me lacking in space knowledge. I needed to refamiliarize myself with the controls. It took time but i managed to make it to the Station. They do not believe. Upon landing im beset by a merchant whom takes the Pearls, and takes the meat, and takes the Flora that my gods saw fit to give me. And in return 30 pieces of silver. I speak the word granted me...

There needs to be an app where you can keep track of your multitools and ships [Suggestion]

I play on console and it's a pain to go through the process to swap out your multitools to see what upgrades you have in each. Same with ships. It would be nice if there was an app where you could fill in the type of weapon/ship, how many slots available, and what you have installed/upgrades along with its damage/scan range/shield strength/hyperdrive range etc so can see if you need that upgrade and what you need to be looking for.

I know it's prob easier on PC to take screenshots and have open tabs where you can see what you have, but not for console players.

ok so for starters this game is acclaimed to be breathtaking and I agree no complaints its stunning. but to get to the gold of the game you have to do millions of things. let me begin by saying it took me atleast 2 hours to set up no mans sky vr because it wouldnt run on my dedicated gpu but instead it ran on my intel UHD graphics thing so when I finally fix it. I get in the game and im just thrown into the wild. they dont give me a tutorial and I can't figure out how to do anything besides move and look.

Everyone is excited for new content. I'm just hoping to see some fixes. Here's a few random ones off the top of my head that I'd like to see in this change log:

[Fixed] The never-ending Atlas Path mission that persists after completion. Can also be unpinned.

[Fixed] The never-ending Base Archives mission can now be unpinned.

[Fixed] The never-ending Settlers mission can now be unpinned.

[Fixed] You are no longer a prisoner overseer of a settlement. You can leave without joining another.

[Fixed] Settlements incorrectly showing a controller icon next to the name when using a PC.

[Fixed] When the key is depressed from within a ship to end free-look, your view will no longer change.

The Ultimate Guide to Ship Scrapping [Information]

Are you a new player who came into a lot of units and looking where to spend them? Are you tired of having a starship with no inventory space? Are you looking to make a lot of nanites fast? Then ship scrapping may be the activity for you!

This is a repost of a guide I commented in the pinned thread for new players. I wanted to make a full post on it to better show people my love for ship scrapping and to give people a detailed walkthrough on how to do it with minimal waste of time or resources.

One of the best ways to craft the perfect starship is Ship Scrapping. It's expensive and time consuming, I won't lie, but if you're willing to put the work in, it's well worth it. You'll even make a lot of nanites along the way.

The best way to do this is finding a star system with a tier 3 economy and a tier 1 conflict. Economy will determine the quality of ships that come in, and conflict will determine the quantity. 3/1 systems will give you the best of both. Install an economy scanner and conflict scanner on your current starship to find these systems easily on the galactic map. Avoid Gek systems if possible. These systems tend to have a high influx of Hauler type ships, which are generally too expensive.

Once you feel you have enough units to throw at this project (roughly 40 million is enough to get a start,) make yourself comfortable at the space station and scan ships as they come into the system. Scanning the ship will give you the information you need to determine if you're willing to buy, the most important information being Class and Price. As a rule of thumb to start, skip Class "C" ships, search for ships with a Class of ”A” or "B" that are worth 3 million units or less, and if an "S" Class ship comes in, try to buy it immediately if possible, regardless of price.

Where do you find the extra non-primary starships? [Question]

So I have just bought two new starships, but whenever I switch my primary starship and then teleport to some other base and return to my original base the other parked starship(s) is(are) gone? Luckily I keep all my starships fuelled up so I can always summon them, but where do they go and is it possible to reach them without expending fuel unnecessarily or in case you forget to refuel them?

Grinding Freighters for hyperdrive upgrades is the terrible water level of No Man's Sky [Discussion]

Sorry for the rant but I'm mad. Derelict freighters are visually cool and all but the whole mission structure is just terrible game design. The excruciatingly slow movement is comparable to the "bad water level" design of N64-era games. They're hard to navigate (and not in a fun way), take forever, and get repetitive after about the 6th one.

Furthermore, they're the only source of freighter upgrade modules needed for long-range hyperdrive travel.

You can't autosave when you land on the freighter. You also can't autosave at the anomaly or at your freighter or else the derelict disappears.

Without a fully upgraded freighter, long distance manual space travel (as in, via the galaxy map) is impractical for most play styles. I think this is a big example of NMS shooting itself in the foot with bad game design. Don't make us grind shitty missions just to give us the opportunity to explore the universe.

I see a couple solutions:

  1. give us another, much less time consuming way to grind these upgrades (via missions, buildings or space stations).

  2. make movement speed normal on freighters. Nobody likes slow movement speed in games. I'd be happy for them to be more difficult and lethal (stronger enemies, more environmental hazards) if I didn't feel like I was playing a bad level of Tomb Raider 1.

I found this multi-tool, and I really like its colors, but I really don't like the stats on it (specifically scanner range and very few slots).

Does anyone know how the discovery servers work? [Question]

Been revisiting some of my older systems recently trying to retrace my first steps through the game. Portaled back to a system today that I discovered over a year ago (5/22/21).

All the planets are still marked discovered a year ago, except the planet I landed on when I portaled back--that one was discovered by me today. (?) The system itself was "discovered" three weeks ago by some... person who is not nearly as clever or creative with naming as they clearly believe they are.

My questions: Do discoveries expire? None of the other systems I've been back to (some much older than this) have changed. How did a planet I know I discovered and uploaded over a year ago become re-discovered by me today? I upload all my discoveries before I leave the system, so it's not a question of it not being uploaded--it was, and now it's been overwritten.

But how and why? Does anyone know? Thanks.

Lost a ship and had one overridden? [Bug]

I was on a space station while shopping for ships - just bought an S-class exotic, then bought a regular one to scrap. I scrapped the one ship so now its just my first ship (explorer), the new exotic I just bought, and for some reason my hauler was also in the landing bay. I wanted to free up the pads so I got in/out of my first ship to autosave then reloaded the autosave.

I come back to find my first ship is renamed to my hauler with all slots reset and upgrades gone and my actual hauler has been deleted.

I have to reload an older manual save to get my original ship back but I've lost like 5 hours and 3 good S-class ships to this.

I found a planet i want a settlement on, I used a planetary chart to find a settlement. I don't really like the wood ones, so I thought I'd try to find another one. I flew to the other side of the planet and used another and it went to the same one. I tried it a few more times from different places and it keeps finding the same one.. is there a way to find different ones?

Save edit, XBOX NMS? [Discussion]

I wanted to change the appearance of my frigate fleet to the new space whale from the expedition on my main save (500+ hrs).

Would downloading the xbox version on my windows computer, waiting for the cloud version to come down. Going offline, could I edit that save. Then just sign in online for it to back up and be playable on my main save?

I haven't found a paradise planet (actual titled Paradise planet) with water on it in what feels like months. I only jump to systems with water, and try to stay in the G/F3-8 range, and every Paradise planet has just been all earth, no water. I'm in Eisenntam

My perdiction for the update. [Suggestion]

💪 I believe this next update has nothing to do with arms, i believe it is version 4 of nms and it is a massive update that addes a refresh to the whole game, all current systems in the game are gonna be updated, including water, planets, npcs, its going to be a refresh of the game and will update visuals and the overall feel of the game. This is a flex on the community but most importantly it is flexing on all of the other space games out there. I even believe the settlements will have further progression to turn into buildings and add more npcs. More bases, for everything, water, gravity, planets, better frieghters! And of course being able customize our ships.

Thats my perdiction. Oh and it comes out wednesday or thursday if there is a small delay.

Anyone else not get the Expedition 7 (Leviathan) patch to work on Game Pass? [Question]

I play NMS on an Xbox One via Game Pass and I still haven't received the Leviathan patch. When I load the game, it still displays the Outlaws patch notes and doesn't provide any option to start a game with the new expedition (and I've played every previous expedition so I know my way around the game's menus).

It did update NMS when I booted up earlier this month, but for whatever reason it's just not launching the content in-game. Googling is no help; apparently everybody (including Game Pass subscribers) should be able to play Expedition 7. I have no pending updates for the system or NMS and my network connection is fine. I can start a new game just fine. It's just missing Expedition 7.

Anyone else have this issue?

New and pleasantly surprised! [Discussion]

As the title says, I'm new to NMS and I'm very pleasantly surprised. I had heard that the game had massive improvement since launch, but I had never understood the depth of the game now.

Base building, researching, mining, exploring, space combat, trading, all of it actually feels good. It doesn't feel like a grind to me, despite it very much being a grind. The planets are sufficiently alien and diverse, and actually feel like planets. The ships are all genuinely interesting to look at and worth investing in.

It's honestly weirding me out how few complaints I actually have about this game. I currently have around 25 hours logged, and have gone from being stranded out in the middle of nowhere on an Irradiated hell-hole of a planet (now named Los Angeles, as is befitting), to being a highly successful explorer, tradesmen, ace pilot, admiral, and outlaw, and it still feels like I have barely scratched the surface of the game.

So what are your tips and tricks for a new space explorer on the verge of exploring the universe?

Hey, so just started playing this absolute unit and honestly I’m blown away how much I like it. Just got to the miltiplayer planet, making my way through space. But I got thinking, how much of a role do bases have? I saw there are recruitable animals housing upgrades etc. But how much of automation or even economy is linked to them, or are they simply for you to have a home that does the job but isn’t really that deep.

New player here. This game ... I like it, but it frustrates me something shocking. [Bug]

It's a bit rant-y, so just be warned, but I'm not being negative of the game, just irked with some mechanics really.

I've dabbled in Eve Online. I own Elite Dangerous. I have not yet crossed the Sanity Barrier required to "play" Star Citizen. I had a mate that kept prodding me with "try NMS, it's gotten a lot better!!!", so it popped into a discount and I picked it up.

Ok, so don't get me wrong, I'm having fun. Already 140 hours, and I have (really shitty designed) bases all over the place, a trade loop that gets me 150 mill for 30 minutes flying, a couple of (barely functional) mat farms, and I'm slowly trying to get all my gear and ships to a working optimal ...

... so why the frustration?

Because half the time I have no idea if I am a total moron for not finding how something works or if the game engine and general design just "does not have / does not do" things "that way".

Like: I call my Inventory and it defaults to my Spaceship. Googling tells me "oh yea it will do that", and the workaround to pin a recipe didnt work, so I I just made a macro with "call inventory, go LEFT one tab" ... and then 30 minutes later it started defaulting to Multi Tool so it broke again. I try to figure out what galaxy I am in without being in Space and I can't find the galaxy name ANYWHERE. Not in Discoveries, not in any information screens. Not even inside a Space Station there is an obvious way, unless "obvious" is to try to Portal and work out "where you ARENT" because the other galaxy names show on the other portals to other galaxies. the Quick Macros you can set with Ctrl-X sometimes work? Sometimes don't? Or It's me not understanding the mechanic? I wanted to quick-select different Multi-Tools, but when I placed the "Swap Multi-Tool" on 1 say, and I press 1 ... nothing happens? But I then try putting 1 on the one...

I screwed up by galaxy hopping with the black hole trick [Discussion]

Hey all,

Venting a bit, but also hoping for a solution. My main save is about 520 hours worth of fun at this point. I had been galaxy hopping with the traditional portal method until I discovered the black hole method (get to the last system at the center of a galaxy, warp to the nearest black hole instead of jumping to the center, warp thought the black hole, then warp to the center of the galaxy to end up in the center of the next galaxy). This method has made galaxy hopping super easy... Until it didn't.

Well, I'm now in galaxy 30 or 40-something and my black holes are just broken. Any time I try to jump through a black hole, nothing happens... Until I try warping to another system from the galaxy map. Then I'm suddenly catapulted to some system a few thousand LY away. I know the black hole is being triggered by my manual jump because I'm getting the distance traveled message and a damaged ship component every time it happens.

I've done a bit of research and it looks like the "black hole not working" issue hasn't been discussed for sometime; as if it were more prevalent a year or two ago. Furthermore, I'm now pushing the limits of my hyperdrive every jump to try to escape the center of the galaxy in the name of exploration. As some of you are aware, every black hole (not on the outer rim of a galaxy) pushes you closer to the center, so I can't just use a black hole to slingshot myself farther out toward the edge of the galaxy.

Excuse the mellow drama, but I feel like the "exploit" has left me very deep within the center of the galaxy, leaving a very long manual journey outward and now my black holes are broken... All on my main save. Ironic how so many of us are trying to get to the center of a galaxy and here I am trying to get to the outer rim 🤦🏼‍♂️🤣

Anyone have any advice other than "deal with it" or "start a new...

Shipyards [Suggestion]

The ships in the game have no history, it's as if they appeared with the universe. Flying many light years, you will never understand where the huge freighter came from, where the inhabitants here got their ships. Shipyards for spaceships would help the plunge, and also open up space for new ideas

Any way to endlessly fight sentinels? [Question]

I love fighting sentinels in my minotaur, but each time I kill them all off, they disable on the planet.

Going to give this new update a miss, I guess [Discussion]

There is no point to this post, other than to speak my mind a little about the updates and expeditions. I enjoy the game (1000 hrs +) and love the expeditions, but it seems the expeditions always lead to new concepts introduced in the updates. I can see why it would work this way, but I'm reaching a bit of NMS burnout.

By the time I've assembled a squadron, looked after my freighter expeditions, managed my settlement and looked after my pets, it's like I have done a day's work - and that's without my career as a pirate or trashing waves of sentinels Don't get me wrong, the variety is vast, and the fact that they keep releasing update on update for free is so special and pro-gamer it's amazing. I just think I've gone as far as I want to go at the moment, but the combination of FOMO and blind curiosity keeps me wanting to come back.

Perhaps I'll start a new save and play it casual AF, perhaps I'll (gasp!) wait and see what Starfield has to offer and mod the shit out of it for a while. Anyway, I'll be going now, thanks for reading and keep enjoying HGs wonderful product. It really is worth every penny.

Terminal Bug [Bug]

Hello guys, I need your help and I tried searching it but I didn't find anything helpful yet. I tried to continue my safegame about a month ago. I didn't play for a year till then and I wanted to return. I have the construction terminal and the science terminal and I saw that there were a lot more terminals added into the game. I don't have any blueprint for the other ones. The korvax at the science terminal gives me daily quests and the gek at the construction terminal doesn't have a dialog, just "I shouldn't bother him" I tried to fire them, replace the terminals etc. Is there a known possibility to get me the other blueprints or is my safegame (300+ hours) gone...? I hope somebody can help me

NMS capped at 60 FPS [Question]

Hello, I’ve just upgraded to a 144Hz monitor. I’ve changed the max framerate in settings to 144FPS, vsync off, tried borderless, bordered, fullscreen, even turned off freesync but the fps always stays capped at 60. Any suggestions?

Question about the universal base building limit [Question]

I am aware that there's a base building limit across all bases, across every single planet of 20,000 parts - once I reach this limit will I have to go 'screw this' and start a new save, is there a mod to remove this limit or is there some way to wipe every single base, or at least my oldest bases? (Or a mod that allows me to do this)

Game plot breaks immersion a bit [Discussion]

I know that we are all playing a computer game but having the game explicitly saying everything's not real really dampens the mood.

It doesn't help that the simulation is on a 16-minute countdown (in a different time scale) that the player cannot solve.

Part of me regretted following the story.

How to trigger a freighter battle? [Question]

I’m new to the game with only about 20 hours. I have had several encounters with a space battle and decided to get the best freighter I could. I have managed to get a good 200mill units and have found the location for a freighter I want. I’m also aware about save scumming to ensure I get a class and am ready to get my freighter however upon arriving at the galaxy I can’t seem to get the freighter to spawn in. I had thought that it was just every 4 warps, 4th warp summons it in however it’s just not working and o have no idea why, I realized the posts and things I was reading were all like 3 years old so can anybody tell me exactly how to spawn in the space battle?

Basically title. I‘ve been warping around to find THE planet I can call home and build another moneymaker. Of course I am looking for no guards, paradise and activated indium and I wanted to ask here first if that is even a thing. I found a paradise indium with guards but nothing else yet. Any experiences?

My small, faint hope for this update [Discussion]

I've been petitioning for almost three years now (since VR support was implemented) to add left-handed controls and UI/menu support in VR.

Accessibility is a big deal in VR, so having to use your multi-tool and navigate menus completely with your non-dominant hand is a very not-fun experience.

I love this game, and love VR, and I am holding a glimmer of hope that someday they will rework the VR interface to add that option. Perhaps with PSVR2 on the horizon, it has escalated this user story in their backlog, since it has very chiral controllers (like everything else now, except the old vive wands)

The arm looks like is a left arm, maybe? I dunno... we'll see. lol.

Armstrong was "the first" [Discussion]

Hear me out. If the emoji is linked to Niel Armstrong then we should be looking at him being the first. This update is going to have nothing to do with moons. We've had them forever. Here are the possibilities as I see them: the first spawn the first traveller the first iteration (technically would be the first traveller related) the first reset (same as above)

Given that we've seen the Gek face on the blighted banner, I'm leaning towards the first spawn which would give us links to Korvax Prime, the sentinels rebelling, the void, etc.

I'd love it to be about Null, but I don't think it fits with the last update's direction.

Crashes [Question]

Every time I boot up the game I can play for like 6 second until it freezes and crashes, sometimes when I get into my ship or leave a planet, others when im just walking around. i have like a save file i started with the origins update and its the one i still use to this day. Ive verified integrity of game files, uninstalled and reinstalled both the game and steam, and updated my drivers several times. Any ideas?

Photo Missions impossible on Xbox Series [Bug]

I’m on the correct planet. It says “press down on d pad” to enter camera mode…

But on Xbox Series X you can only take a screenshot, which is not an action the game itself understands and records… only the console knows I’ve done this, so the mission does not update.

I looked for options to change camera mode so that it takes a picture in game, and not use the Xbox screenshot function, but that doesn’t seem to exist. This type of mission simply cannot be done on an Xbox. :-(

Perma death tips / tricks please. [Question]

So I tried to do a perma death run after liking normal but feeling "no challenge" as I didn't die hardly ever. From this sub I see survival/permadeath is much more challenging so I thought I would give it a try.

To even survive to take off I have to basically "cheat."

So I start the game in survival or permadeath. Then camera mode to look for a hole. Then sprint there getting a tiny amount of ferrite on the surface and get into the hole quickly to get colbalt for ion batteries etc.

This feels like "cheating" is there a way to do the early game without camera mode / ion batteries etc until you are told about that stuff in the tutorial. Or is it meant to be this hard where you have to use the stuff the tutorial hasn't told you about etc.

I've died twice from falling from jet pack heights so I do see the challenge here. I'm just looking for other "tips" or "tricks" to survive early early game (e.g. before base building even)
