HelloGames unintentionally had a giant negative impact on the gaming industry [Discussion]

I think by releasing No Man's Sky unfinished and then fixing it over time, they made it to where gaming companies big and small think that it's ok to release games unfinished and fix them later. The biggest culprit that I can think of is Fallout 76, where the game director even said it doesn't matter how a game is released, it only matters what it becomes. Of course I love HG for not abandoning this game, and I'm grateful that this game has become something incredible over the years, but this game showed the industry that it's ok to rush products out.

Need some help! [Question]

Hello fellow travellers! Happens to notice a cool living ship and wanted to switch my current one. I triggered the mission in a system where I have a base near portal then I portal to the system where the living ship is located. I went to the specific location where living ship should be located I saw a crashed C-class hauler. Then I had my back to the crash site, reset the mission, turned back it was still the same hauler (this is how I got my 1st living ship I wanted). The mission leads me to a site nearby. Not sure if this changes bc new updates? So how can I get a specific ls I want now? Really appreciate your help!

I'm pretty new to the game, but I had gotten the transmission to start the outlaws mission. Naturally it glitched on me so I couldn't progress. I reloaded my save, and have been pulling around forever and not even a peep. This was the content update to actually get me interested in playing the game and it's broken...

I'm about to just make a new character because this game can't just give you a quest.

Are Single Player discoveries synced with other players? [Question]

It may just be a testament to how huge the galaxies are, but I’m still in Euclid and have only traveled about three warps from where I started. I’ve only seen 11 systems in my 80 hours and barely left the starting systems.

Still, a system I spent time in and had my base in used to have 5 planets and a 6th was added during the 2 years I didn’t play and it remained undiscovered until I went to it.

I just find it hard to believe that nobody would happen across my area in two years. Sure there’s no good reason to come around it’s not wealthy or unique, but it made me think that maybe the planet discovery system in single player isn’t actually updated with everyone else’s discoveries or something. I just wondered. If someone had landed there in the past would it tell me that it was discovered by so and so?

Player encounter outside of the space anomaly [Discussion]

I didn’t realise at the time, but encountering other players is super rare right? Within my first week of playing I have come out of the space anomaly and noticed two player symbols off in the distance, I could visibly see their starships. What are the chances of this happening? I assumed that upon them seeing me they would engage so I boosted to the space station and to never see them again unfortunately.

How Does Expedition Transition Work? [Question]

Sorry if this has been asked before, didn't see it scanning through search. I finished expedition 6, first one I've ever done, and it says that I will now be "converted to a normal save." Will that happen immediately or at the end of the expedition? And what does it do, just give you the main storyline quest or does it take you back to ground zero, waking up on a toxic planet with nothing?

Everlasting bugs [Bug]

No doubt: No Man's Sky is a great game! (I've been playing it for almost 3,000 hours, since the very first version).

But I beg Hello Games to finally fix some bugs that have been present for years.

For example, the Autonomous Mining Unit (introduced in 2016) is still buggy: if you supply the UMA with carbon and then leave for a distant journey, when you return all the carbon has been consumed but no ore is harvested. Since 2016 !!!

getting de-grouped constantly [Bug]

Is anyone else having this bug?

Every time my friend and I try to play since outlaws we get de-group randomly. Sometimes in minutes sometimes in 30 mins or so but constantly. It's really annoying to try and play with friends, especially cross platform.

Seeing Other People's Bases... Does that mean they are Online? [Question]

I have asked this question before. I have also searched Reddit and Steam posts about this. But I just can't get an official or satisfying answer. Especially since Hello Games has changed things over the years, and I have only been playing since January of this year. So... When person A uploads a base in system X on planet Y, and I visit planet Y, can I always see their uploaded base whether the are online or not. (I believe the answer is yes because I have repeatedly gone to a person's base they sent me for nanite farming). If I upload my base on a Normal game save, then play an Expedition on a New Save, can I visit my base from the previous save? Or will it not work because one save is Normal, and I am in an expedition save? Same question as #2, but both save games are Normal. So I upload my base on a Normal game save on planet Y, then start a new Normal game save and travel to planet Y where my base from my previous save is, can I see my base? If I can see other people's bases that they have uploaded, regardless if they are online or not, but I can't see mine from a different save, is that intentional and by design? Is that based on the premise that I could benefit from my other base? If so, isn't that the same thing with other people's bases that offer up AI mining? I benefit from those immensely if I choose to...

Welp!!! My 137h save crashes while saving [Bug]

So I was last time in the Anomaly when used this save, all good no weirdiness before this.

Went to create another save to play the Expedition, done and dusted with it.

Came back to Normal save and voila, crash after crash when trying to save, i can leave the anomaly, i can even transport to my bases and when trying to use a save beacon also crashes. If i leave the anomaly and then try to leave the ship anywhere, you guessed it, crash... so its obviously a game-saving crash issue.

After some digging in the interwebs, i used NMS save editor to change version, did nothing for me...

Turned Multiplayer off...Nah did nothing.

It's kind of frustrating...

Everything is updated over here as well, and PC is not the issue, running a big fella here, plus i can go into any other save and no issues...

Any ideas? or is that save a goner? i will cry...

Electric power supply [Question]

Have a wonderful evening everyone.

How to build access to a power supply located about 500 u from the base? I tried it with power switches. Only when I connect the switches to the power supply and then connect to my mineral extrators, it tells me that I have no power. I assume that it is too far away. There should be some possibility.

A trace of metal start of quest bug [Bug]

Not sure what I'm doing wrong with this quest? It only just started and I teleport to my settlement, I do the initial fight and kill all the sentinels, yet there's always "1 sentinal remaining" in the bottom corner and I can't get past this part of the quest :(

I've tried both reloading my save and flying away from the planet and coming back, done the fight about 4 times now and it always says 1 sentinal remaining, has anyone else encountered this before?

Starbirth - Can't get to Euclid? [Question]

Hey all, I started (re)playing during this current expedition and fell back in love. My expedition save is my only save, but somehow along the way I picked up a void egg and started Starbirth as well.

I've finished the expedition a bit ago, and have been progressing through this thing and am at the point where it clearly wants me to use a portal. Great, happy to. Only problem is my expedition game didn't start in Euclid, never went to Euclid, and I don't know how to get to Euclid in order to use a portal.

My galaxy map seems to suggest I just keep warping forever in an arbitrary direction. What should I do?

This game makes me feel like I'm reliving childhood playing my first game [Discussion]

Damn this game is something to jump into. I followed this game when it first came out. But after all the controversy, I just thought it was a failed marketing scheme until I tried it through game pass.

It gives me the same vibes I felt playing spore the first time. It makes me feel like actually exploring the universe and looking at all these plants and creatures. I spent my first day playing just scanning everything on the first planet and looking at all the creatures.

Jumping into space still feels really cool after my 5th time.

I love the way these games make you feel when there's still so much you don't know about them and everything is new.

Any advice for a new player who wants to keep that sense of adventure for as long as possible? Should I just follow the main mission? Or should I just set small goals for myself while I'm building up my base, since that's one of my favorite game play as well?

Limited flying with jetpacks [Suggestion]

I'd love to be able to actually fly forward with the jetpack, instead of having to melee and quickly hit the jetpack button to "leap" around, it'd be like when you're "swimming" forwards when underwater but much faster! Free flying in games have always been my favorite haha

3.85 said they expanded the ship limit to 9...but as soon as I have 6 ships I lose the option to Purchase and can only exchange the same as before...

can't complete "Treasure hunt" step in Blighted expedition [Question]

I can't complete the step to investigate the pirate coordinates where the cache is. The cache is under the map along with the keys to open it. I know its down there because i fell under there and had to reload a save. No amount of restarting the game,reloading,etc seems to fix it. Has anyone else had this problem? And is there a way to fix it?

Trading Ships for Squadron Pilots [Discussion]

If you’re like me, you want a crisp uniform which everyone wears when on duty. What I’ve found trying to achieve this is that it is quite difficult. However, useful information to follow. There is exactly one pilot available when trading ship per system. It doesn’t matter which pilot you trade to they will all have exactly the same stats and uniform at the end.

Pretty sure I am not explaining this well, so you are in system 1234. You trade a ship to Bob the Killer because he sounds like a maniac and you want him in your squid ship, you then recruit him to your squadron, great, he has 4 stats which are (for example) excellent, good, excellent, crap. He is dressed in blue and red.

Then another ship flies in, it’s Paul the Noob, you trade to him, and his squadron stats and uniform are exactly the same as Bob’s.

The thing is, it doesn’t matter if you recruited Bob the Killer, or Steve the Benevolent, whenever you trade a ship to someone in a system they become Pete the Traded and will have the exactly the same stats and uniform. There is only one person per system a traded pilot can be, which is probably why you can’t have more than one of the same name. I’ve tested this across a number of systems now and it seems to hold true.

If that made no sense I apologise.

Expedition Character doing The Void Egg quest [Question]

Hello all, this is my first expedition character in NMS and about a week ago I started my Void Egg quest! I am now at the point of the Cracking Void Egg step and have to do that part of the quest. The problem is, it wants me to go to Euclid. Well I went to the Coordinates that the Egg gave me and gave me this big ole ATLAS ERROR. Which I knew meant nothing good so I said screw it and went on that Adventure through the portal.... and I ended up right in a freaking extreme fire storm with tornadoes. So, after that misadventure I'm at a loss. I'm not in Euclid and when I look at the galaxy map it's leading me somewhere and the quest text is telling me I need to get creative. So, my question here:

Which galaxies sentinel's do I need to pay off/conquer to get to the planet I need for the next step of this quest?

No Man Sky Sentinel Blue wanted level?? [Question]

We were doing a mission to kill sentinel quad and get their thing and suddenly our wanted level became completely blue and from there on we couldn't find any sentinel no matter what we did. We tried picking up gravitino balls to alert them, absolutely nothing no matter how many we took. We were to a sentinel outpost things and there was absolutely none. We're so confused. Tried going to different planet and we still have no sentinel and this weird blue wanted level. What is it?

I’m confused. [Question]

Okay so all I have to do is Intergalactic ( leave the galaxy) and Breadcrumbs (first base). But I left that area and have been to different galaxies since the 5 rendezvous. I have no idea how to get back there. From my understanding you have a full hyperdrive and I should be able to leave the galaxy. I’m stuck and confused on what to do. New Game Type suggestion. [Discussion]

What if we could start a save in “No Teleporters Mode”?

I always end up starting a new save at about 200 hours as I’ve lost any sense of challenge. I just realized how much longer a game would last if the Teleporters were absent. A game mode like this wouldn’t just gimp you for time but add all the challenges of pirate encounters, planning routes for efficiency, building clusters of supporting bases to facilitate transport times. It would open a whole plethora of new strategizing in game.

Now I’ve tried doing this the past few days on my current save but I’m human and it’s too easy to cheat on my own self-imposed rules. It does add a new level of complexity to gearing ships, obtaining resources, resource depletion, settlement management, etc.

Wouldn’t having this option when setting up a new save be neat? Lets hear your opinions.

Happiness Is.. [Discussion]

Happiness can be difficult to define. For me, it is several things. But, at the top of my list is that I can play NMS in multiplayer with my 11-year-old grandson. I'm retired and I have just over 400 hours on a normal save. He likes to play in Creative so I started a new Creative save and joined his game. What a blast! I was learning things from him, and he from me. And now we're talking about doing an expedition together - but first he wants to hunt down an S-class freighter. We do have our priorities, after all. One of the best parts? Because the NMS community is so wonderful, I didn't have to warn him away from multiplayer. And, besides, we're taking appropriate safeguards (e.g., turning off PVP, etc.) so that we can both enjoy the experience. I'm simply thrilled and I truly look forward to continuing to explore the galaxy(s) at his side. That is happiness.

Been playing off and on since release… [Discussion]

I just yesterday figured out how to get the zoology rankings for finding all fauna. Also found out that you get a crap ton of manures when you turn them in. I’m… an… idiot. I’ve been struggling to get nanites for 6 years.

Im rich now, I have 50k+ nanites. Now I just gotta figure out the best way to make tons of money. Got my scanner upgraded with 3 S tier and I’m getting 500k per scan. Any better way?

Base salvage module. Help please! [Question]

I've come across a problem I've never had before. I was going through my old bases and deleted a bunch of them. I've come back to my freighter and tried to reclaim the resources but it says inventory full. I've moved everything other than tech to make space but it still says it's full. Locating Basalt...I think I'm missing something? [Question]

I need Basalt for something I'm installing. I'm in a system where I keep getting a pop up telling me "Basalt-rich planet detected, Target a planet and press L3 to scan for resources." But I've scanned (and landed on) every planet and moon in the system, and can't find Basalt. When you point your ship at a planet, I see where it lists several resources on that planet (like Cadmium, Phosphorus, and Cobalt). But none have Basalt. And I've double checked the log menu, there's no planets or moons I've missed.

Any suggestions on what I'm missing?

Picked up the game again. In middle of the quest “the purge” and I don’t remember what to do? [Question]

So the last thing I remember I talked to the atlas and had to insert all the different color seeds/orbs and I think there may have been a glitch with that but I can’t remember…

So now the purge tells me to go to the center of the galaxy. When I open the galaxy map there’s a green line that I think is the main quest I’m on (the purge) but if I click over a couple times there’s an option to select the “path selected: galactic center” which gives me a red line in the opposite direction.

So which way should I be going here?

Nexus weekend mission glitch [Bug]

Anyone else had an issue with the nexus “Build an outpost” mission this weekend? I built the base etc right up until I got the request to decorate it. It says “Build a large monitor” 1(done) “Build square lights” 4,(done) Then the next line is totally blank but it’s asking for 2 of whatever it should be? 🤷🏼‍♂️ I’m at a total loss. Any ideas anyone?

Frame drop in certain systems? [Bug]

my mate got a settlement distress signal in a different system. when he warped there the system had about 4fps. he couldn't find the settlement either it kept saying "in another system" and every time he went to check it went back to the previous one.

the system it was originally in and way low fps had previously been discovered by someone 3 years ago.

For the save-editors out there, a list of the best seeds of X-Class mods [Information]

Hey there! I was looking for this kind of list, couldn't find it, and so I decided to make it.

For all of you out there who don't save-edit, you can't actually use a save editor to set your mod stats to some arbitrary number (e.g. I can't make a Shield mod give me +10000 health).

First, I found this github repository which has every single mod's stats based on its seed (the random number that's generated as you install it). This was good and all, but most of us don't need to know all 100,000 possible stat configurations - just the best 3-6 to install in main and tech inventory.

So I branched it, crunched some numbers, and got my results! You can find them over here - read the README for more details.

Can't get steady fps in VR with RTX 3070 / ryzen 5600x [Question]

I just built my PC (specs below) and I wanted to play NMS VR and use my new build to it's best but the game is a choppy mess with any graphics above standard or enhanced. even then the FPS isn't that good. I can play VR with 120 fps just fine on steamvr.

I have tried everything I could fine online about relative issues but none of them worked and are kinda old.

Is there anyway I can improve FPS and graphics with my current setup?

Ryzen 5 5600x , RTX 3070, 16GB 3600 Mhz, m.2 storage

Storage Augmentations: Bypassing the Menu? [Question]

Hi. So, over the course of my missions and frigate missions I've collected a big stack of storage augmentations. I've begun using them on one of my starships but I've run into an interesting problem.

If you go through the starship outfitter at a space station and use them for General or Technology slots in your ship, you can just keep hitting the Apply Augmentation button and it will just apply a new augmentation and give you a slot.

But if you do it on a Cargo slot, it automatically backs out of the menu and you have to interact with the starship outfitter again and go through 2 sets of menus to apply it.

Is there any way to bypass this? It's rather tedious and this is for my hauler ship so cargo slots are way more important than general inventory.

Random encounter with large ship in planet’s lower atmosphere? [Question]

I’ve put about 500 hours into NMS, but recently picked it up again after about 6 months off. Started a new save, built a new base, the whole 9 yards.

I’ve now had two weird encounters with this ship that seems to float along in the lower atmosphere of my base planet. Smaller than a freighter, but larger than a starship. Can’t land on it. Shooting at it does nothing, but it does fly off after around 30 seconds.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

Expand Your Base Quest No Longer Showing [Bug]

So I advances the quest to the Overseer before I realized I didn't want to expand this base. Before I got to far along, I decided to delete this base and add a Construction terminal on a better base I built.

The quest "Expand your base" no longer shows, but I still have Ghosts in the Machine, and Base Computer Archives. I'm also unable to Hire another Overseer. Any suggestions?

What happens to Artemis and Nada and Polo and Apollo and all the others if you choose to reset the Atlas? [Question]

I know on a gameplay level the anomaly still exists, but I don’t want to delete Apollo or Artemis or Null. But if the Atlas isn’t reset then Apollo at least is guaranteed to die at some point, and I don’t want that to happen either. And even though Artemis is in a simulation they can still talk to people and have conversations and maybe the player character could try to enter the simulation matrix style at some point. And will resetting the Atlas even save it? It’s been reset before right? Is it even possible to save it?

I love seeing the regular updates to NMS, but what about these years old bugs? [Bug]

Every time I come back to NMS, I love how the game feels and am fascinated by the new additions, but then I come across an issue, google it, and find 2-3 year old posts reporting it, with recent comments still wondering what the fixes are.

For example, the main ones that are plaguing me now:

  • A loud electronic static sound when inside my base, apparently it's to do with an old uncompleted quest, which I don't even have.

  • Unable to craft technology for my nautilus. I have the speed boost technology, I bought it and have all the necessary materials, but when I go to craft the technology there is nothing there for me to build.

  • Underwater bases having random patches where I get a splash effect and start floating, inside, as if I'm outside in the water. And this is in a room built completely normally, no freeform placing or other weird things I'm doing.

Pair issues like these with really obvious missing quality of life stuff like the inability to build rooms and base tunnels at 45 degree angles, even on 'circular' rooms which have 8 sides - only 4 of those can be built off - and the more I play the game each time I come back to it, the more I want to stop playing.

Please reassure me that Hello Games does get round to these kinds of issues, because the fact that they've been in the game for this long untouched doesn't give me hope.

Does anyone else feel like the game makes itself unnecessary? [Discussion]

I feel like the game teaches you something and then not long after makes it unnecessary.

A lot of time is spent in the beginning having to physically gather resources, but after a little bit of time you can buy almost every raw material you need for basic gameplay just by having a variety of space stations to teleport to. One of them will have whatever you need in a lot of cases.

You go through the process of unlocking the first couple exocraft and each one is new and feels like something you earned. I remember building bases with exocraft summon platforms on planets in systems I frequented. A short while later you can just summon anything so long as your freighter is in the sky.

Inventory control is something that can still be a bigger issue, but in the beginning I was always having to remove something I didn’t need at the time to make room. Without much work you can set your freighter up to allow you access to all 10 storage banks from anywhere in the same system.

I’m not complaining at all, there’s still a lot of limitations and little hurdles to achieving these things, but it just feels like I’m at 90 hours and it’s to the point where a lot of the challenges from the beginning were almost artificial compared to how you spend most of the game. It almost makes me feel like I’m missing something.

OK, so I have three different readings for sentinels on this moon. Planet info when you exit the ship says none. Visor says regular patrols. Discoveries page says high activity. So far I could not get any to show up, so I had to test my new multi-tool on the abyssal horrors. They lost.

Stuck on Ghosts in the Machine quest [Question]

This is my first time playing through and I’m on the quest Ghost in the Machine. I’m on the step where you’re supposed to go to a Vy’Keen space station and talk to a multi-tool upgrade merchant. However, the only space station the quest thinks is acceptable is in one of the new Outlaw space stations. From what I can tell this station does not have a multi-tool upgrade vendor, and the quest does not accept any other Vy’Keen space station for the quest

I'm done with solar ships..randomly changing colors is killing it for me [Discussion]

I made a post a while ago about my orange ship changing colors, the space station I found it at no longer offers it either for some reason(replaced it with a blue/black version). I decided to use the pure white one that had every perfect feature I wanted but waited a few days just to be sure before investing slots into it..now the white one has changed into half white/half gray. Ruined too. great ship design, great ship sails, love the way they move, but if I can't keep the colors I want it just makes me sad. I understand if they loaded in all orange or all white as a "bug" but since it released so, it should have been kept that way at that point.

My squadron just after defeating a band of pirates attacking my settlement.

I wanted all my squadron to be flying the same fighters as my character, as a unified force. The fighter I use is from the same system as my Settlement so I spent a bunch of time hanging out at the space station. Found them (A or S class mix), dumped a load of nanites to give them decent weapon, shield and manoeverability stats, sold them to promising candidates in different systems and recruited them. (or reloaded if the sale broke their stats).

"Best" Multitools? [Question]

Heyo! So I'm starting to look towards getting some good gear and upgrades and whatnot, and figured I'd look into Multitools for now. As far as I can tell from the wiki, Experimental and Royal Multitools are functionally the same, while Alien Multitools are better for pure damage, and not as great at scanning and mining.

How have you handled your Multitool(s)? Do you just have a main one with your weapon of choice, or do you have multiple MTs for different purposes?

Edit: Also, what did you do weapon-wise for yours? Seems like it's hard to gear out for more than one weapon on a single MT, unless you focus more on weapons and less on the other stuff, which again would probably be better with an Alien MT.

Selling Directly from Storage Containers? [Question]

Playing on survival and trying to streamline selling ai.

So far I've setup my ai farm and I can move the ai into the storage containers. I tried building a base on top of a trading post with the storage containers, my logic was I can just Tele over and sell to the pilots but they only let sell from my inventory so it's a ton of quick transferring from container to inventory.

Is it possible to figure out a way to sell directly from my storage containers?

Expedition 6 Complete, hiring an Overseer. [Question]

I just completed Expedition 6: Outlaws and wanted to hire an Overseer for my base and do the associated quest line. When I speak to prospective Overseers on the space stations, the option to hire them is grayed out. I've tried making more bases and even deleting my bases then making new ones. I need help. My hame is now bugged and it looks like I'm about to lose 100 hours of play time. More inside. Any help would be appreciated. [Question]

So as I said I may have lost my entire save game. 4 maxed exotics, maxed freighter....visited way too many systems. I have done so much. Yeaterday I tried to do the weekend mission for quicksilver where I had to go to a nearby planet and build a base. Well I did that several times and each time I finished it wouldn't let me back into the anomaly. At all. It would slow down and them right at the light it just stops. I posted photos of it in my last post about it as I was trying to get help, to literally no avail. So I reload my auto save inside my frigate and I did a bunch of stuff for about an hour. Made new fuel, did some refi ing. Debriefing and started all new frigate assignments. I go to leave and my ship won't take off. Qhen I press the launch button to lidt off just a soft little beep happens. Fuck. So I reload my last manual save that was during the whole bullshit sbout yhat weekend mission. I can't go land anywhere, yhe anomoly, space stations, freighter, only planets. It will not let me fucking take off and leave. At all. I tried warping to a new galaxy inside my frieghter. Tried it all. Nothing. Does anyone k ow how to help me through this fucking madness? Did I just lose my 100 hour game save completely!?!?!?@?

Main Quests [Question]

I've completed the Artemis and Atlas Path quests which gave birth to a new galaxy and gave me a technology called Remembrance. So....now what? Is that the end of the main storyline? There's a black hole too which just led me to another star system. So is it just free roaming and completing side missions from here on?

Need help with a Trace of Metal bug where Sentinels spawn infinitely. [Bug]

So I'm trying to do the Settlers content but this bug keeps getting the way. What was happening was that Sentinels would spawn for the first part of Trace of Metal, and the quest would say there were 11. I fought them down to 4 (but I couldn't see any more) and more spawned, I did this a few times and realised it was probably a bug so I left to try my luck at a new settlement. The second time I visited this new settlement - 1060-something Sentinels spawned. With the help of a friend and blasting them from our ships we got them down to 200 but the few that remained had no healthbars and wouldn't die no matter how much damage I pumped into them from either ground or air, so we went back to the space station to sell the COPIOUS loot, and when I returned even more had spawned, more than before, enough that that crashed my game.

Does anyone have a fix for this? I don't mind if it's technically a cheat, I just wanna be able to do settlements. Either I want to tell the quest system I finished this part, please stop spawning sentinels, or delete all the sentinels at once to clear the quest, best result is I can do both quests unimpeded but as is I can do neither. Thanks for your help.

Where Have All The Pirates Gone? [Question]

Okay, who's been complaining about the frequency of pirate raids? I haven't been attacked on land, in warp or just generally for DAYS and I need to kill two more pirates to finish this goddamn expedition. Even taking bounty missions is borked; I pick up the mission, go to the location, nothing there. No mission update the marker disappears, reloaded a dozen times, still nothing.

Anybody else experienced this? It's driving me nuts. I don't want to start a new file and abandoning missions, reloading and trying again ain't working.

I found a solar ship with colors I like. Will the upcoming experimental branch change the colors? [Question]

When Outlaws first came out I found a solar ship that I liked, but then an update changed the colors. The upcoming update is supposedly going to change the colors back. But now I’ve found another solar ship with colors I like. As I understand it, when the next update is released, the colors will change. Hello Games needs to release the next patch update already. Some questions before buying [Question]

Hey, I want to buy this game to play it with my older brother, not a lot games have cross play that are interesting to us. I am really skeptical about this game, I tried it once or twice, and I did not enjoy it because I thought that the whole game has not changed till the launch only the graphics. Oh boy was I wrong, I saw how many features have been added and I am very eager to buy it and play it in coop. However I have some concerns. First of all, I know that you can terraform and build bases, but still the whole game world looks static, you have no impacts with vehicles, explosion, you don't see an aftermath of a crash. The combat looks like a obsidian world interactive's RPG's combat system, but I hate bullet sponge enemies, I prefer when it takes 3-4 shots to kill an enemy, but the upgrades makes the weapon function funnier, like explosive ammo or bullet tracking... basically a Halo with upgrades what I want to see. Lastly space combat looks nasty, does it feel like elite dangerous? Does this game have big space combat events? For example when two factions have a battle and big frigates jump into the combat, while smaller and smaller ships blow up from the missiles etc. Of course if they are not 100% satisfy my needs, can I hope for overhauls, updates that will satisfy? Three questions for other players enjoying this wonderful game in VR [Question]

Hello VR travellers! I was delighted to jump into outlaws after a couple of updates away. I have had a blast, but the increased danger has highlighted a few things in the interface and I am wondering if there are solutions in settings or mods that I have missed:

The swingy flight controls- I can fly around alright, but there's no warning if my index controller decides I let go of the throttle or stick, which it often does. Additionally, it's easy to make small movements without knowing. Are there any mods or settings for the kind of haptic feedback you get from VTOL VR, or any settings that stop the ship continuing to turn after you centre/let go of the stick?

How do you sight down the multitool? I can use most weapons passably without the HUD reticule, largely because I can see where the dots go and adjust, but it's killed my blaze javelin game! Also I have a combat scope installed, is this pointless in VR?

Also interfering with my aim is the fact that I am left handed. Can you swap dominant hands yet?

Back to the game since a year (those solar ship is really appealing). What should I know? [Question]

As the title, I left the game exactly one year ago since I had earned too much units and nanites. I have finished the storyline (I.e. reached the center of space and went to other system) and my storage was full of static device. I couldn’t find a reason to continue playing and thus I left. But now, hearing from this subreddit that many new things was added in the game (especially those new ships) I decided to give it another try. So I would like to ask:

a) Is that any major changes or additions in the game during this one year period? I only know there are stronger pirates (I almost got killed by them when I hop in the game a few hours ago and start the pirate questline).

b) I heard that we can now own 9 ships instead of 6? How?

c) Where can I find those solar ship?

d) Did the game increase the storage of players during the years? Seems like every pocket of mine (player, ship, cargo, storage) are already full and I can’t sell them since I have reached the limit of units. I heard you now have a cargo slot for ships? How can I expand it? Just like the usual way?

Anyone else falling away after getting all farms set up? [Discussion]

After 150+ hours I have all my farms set up, so no more need for resources. Building is not my thing but I did build a large base with all the comfort I need. I have more than enough salvaged data, I unlocked all the blueprints and building parts so I'm mostly done with unlocks. Same for the cosmetics from weekend missions. Same with guild missions, and learning words. I have the S-class ships I like, don't feel the need to have them all. I have some but not too many frigates, at some point I realized it's mostly a way to farm more resources which I don't need. I haven't played the last two updates, I'm skipping them until outposts + pirate stations + whatever will come in the future pile up to something I can put another 100 hours on :D

Besides expeditions, it seems there's no more sense of progression for me. Either you eff around the space for the sake of it, which is nice but grows old after a while, or ??? Welp, I'm hoping I'm missing something so I can jump back into this game without dropping it after a few weeks.

The Ironman Challenge From Hell….help! [Question]

I stupidly decided to do a Permadeath Ironman Challenge (ignore starter ship, max out exosuit before leaving system)… it looked fun on YouTube…

I’m 13 hour into it but still have a 10 hour walk to a distress signal, the planet is barren, mountainous and got very few resources.

I’ve just found a planetary archive with a minor settlement 10 minutes away so I think I have a plan…

If I can make some units I can buy a ship, seen some for 1.4 million but I am sure there will be cheaper ones, I have 450k units and almost 3000 nanites. I only have a mining laser and a portable refiner.

What could I create to make 400k -800k units…. Or should I continue trudging?

Technical Issue - Textures [Question]

I don't have the best rig, so some time ago I changed some settings based on a reddit post (Here) and I found that changing the TKGRAPHICSETTINGS file worked for me. I set NUMHIGHTHREADS to 7 and LOW to 1 and the game did run, and look, better. The last update changed these settings, which I'd forgotten I'd changed, so I was a bit confused when a lot of the close-up, internal textures (stuff like my avatar/NPC's/posters/banners/decorations etc in my freighter and Space Stations) were blocky and unrecognisable. I Goggled again, found the post again, remembered the changes and changed them again. I started the game and everything was looking good initially. My exotic and freighter were looking better and the decorations were better, until I tried to build my new expedition sticker in my freighter - it's a blocky unrecognisable mess. I continued playing and realised the same stuff was looking like crap as it was before. After I saved and exited, I reopened TKGRAPHICSETTINGS and both NUMHIGHTHREADS and LOW were both back to 4.

Anybody have any ideas how to fix this? It doesn't have to be the same method, but the poor quality textures are starting to ruin the game.

Getting to the Galaxy Core on Xbox ?? [Question]

Hi.

I am one system away from the Galaxy Core in Expedition #6. My hyperdrive is fuelled 100%.

For the life of me, I can't figure out how to select the galaxy core as a destination and then select it with the X button. I have the Galaxy Core filter selected in the Galaxy Map. I hit B to free-roam and then navigate to see the core on my screen ... my only option is to push down the right stick, which takes me back to the previous view...

The last time I jumped galaxies was a years ago and I don't remember how to do it...

VR Players: Are there any quality of life mods you use? [Question]

I recently tried out NMS VR because I thought that exploring the universe and flying around in VR would be an amazing experience. I felt really pulled out of the game every time I was unable to interact with anything because I'd accidentally left my wrist menu up, couldn't see the UI that spreads itself out to the far corners of your vision, or let go of everything I was holding because I brought my game menu up. The controls don't seem like they could be rebound for ease of use, so I was just left with dealing with it.

The game has some really beautiful moments in VR, and I think with a little bit of polish it could be a really transcendent experience. Are the any QoL mods or workarounds that you use to improve NMS VR?

Trading Post Pirate Attack Bug [Bug]

Decided to ignore a Pirate Attack whilst at a Trade Outpost

Both of the Pirate Ships landed at the Trade Outpost during the Attack, these ships cannot be destroyed once they have landed and the Pilots do not get out of their Ships

It's like they formed their own Occupy Protest and only a reload will get rid of them

Living Ship blocked by base [Question]

First time trying to get an LS, so doing the Starbirth mission. Made it to the portal in Euclid (Ischel-Althu), got to abandoned building and someone's put up a base. There are doors all around the building, and they put up a teleporter. When I use the teleporter, I get in the bldg, can get the Soul Chamber, but the exit has been blocked. This teleporter is in here, but w/out electricity and I don't think I can charge it? Am I crazy?

Thoughts? What a long journey to be blocked by a griefer right here... or I'm hoping I'm v dumb and someone says they had the same problem and solved it... wish I had been sent to another planet.

How exactly do Forged Passports work? [Question]

I had a high level with the vykeen and was attacking cargo ships and lost several levels, then when I turned in my passport at a regulated station in only gained +1 with the vykeen, but obviously lost 1 with every ship I destroyed.

Is this how it's meant to work?

Switching galaxies [Question]

Hey everybody

I was trying to reach some of the planets that were posted on r/NMS_HabitablePlanets by finding a portal and putting in the glyphs, but every time it teleported me to a completely different planet from what was shown in the post.

Then I noticed the small text that says you can't teleport from the first galaxy to other galaxies so I reached the core, switched, and again found a portal to get the same result! a completely different planet.

So what am I doing wrong?

I'm playing on creative if that matters.

Nexus Mission Buffoonery [Bug]

Doing my daily quicksilver mission I was sent to a planet to tame 48 creatures. The only creature on the planet was the spines of rock that travel around jutting from the ground on the planets full of spines. I know it happens sometimes, I can’t expect a game this big to never swing and miss, I’m more amused than upset. It would make more sense to let me feed 48 animals anywhere that way they didn’t have to worry about sending me on a mission to the wrong planet. 😂

How do you claim a crashed ship? [Question]

I've tried searching the sub for this but everything I find says I claimed a crashed ship, etc., etc. How do you actually claim the ship? I tried to claim Artemis' ship, but didn't see anything that said claim ship. Do I use the quick menu to claim it?

Freighter: To S or not to S... [Discussion]

Is this the question that I should ask?

sigh

So, one of my newer saves has become much more of a primary than one of my previous saves. So the question I'm now asking myself is do I bother to grind out an S Class freighter for that save or not?

It's one of the more recent Expedition saves that I got really enthusiastic with creative builds on various expedition worlds, so much now that I don't feel like going back to one of my previous main saves.

games crashes very often [Question]

Hi everybody, just wondering if there's anyone has the same issue as I do right now, it's so annoying. I have a gaming pc with AMD ryzen 5 and rtx6600 but recently the game crashes quite often, when I land on a new planet or go into a trade outpost. I'm not sure if this is because my desktop cannot handle the graphics or the game itself has something wrong in recent patches... please let me know if you have any idea

Question about getting ships for my friends in multiplayer from NPCs [Question]

My question is fairly simple - I found a nice exotic ship today and bought it, then decided I would recommend the system to my friends so they could pick it up to. My question is, could I just join their world, have them warp to my system, and they could eventually see the NPC I bought the ship off arrive? Or since I bought it, do I have to give them the glyphs and let them pick it up independently?

Massive FPS drop when accepting the mission to find first settlement while playing Multi [Bug]

So when accepting the mission and jumping to the system where you find your settlement, the frame rates absolutely tank the moment you arrive into the system (not even the planet). However this only happens when in multiplayer because when I drop to single play everything is fine.

By framerate tanking, I mean it drops from a smooth 100+ down to 10 fps...which is absolutely unplayable. This happened to my buddy the exact same way when he accepted the same mission, his fps tanked to unplayable as well.

Is this a known issue?

Questions regarding moving items between saves [Question]

If I give an item to a friend, load up another save, then have him give it to that save character, does that work?

what if the items are some of the parts of a living ship? Would the quest pick up on the 2nd character?

If transfering from an expedition to a survival save, I'm assuming this would have to be done after the expedition completes.

Any insight into this if you've tried this? Thanks.

Does anything affect the spread of resources for planetary depots? [Question]

Specifically the gas products and the alloys.

Basically, I've been raiding depots for the above and am wondering if there's anything I need to be aware of if I want a somewhat even spread of the resources, especially the gas products since I can't buy them.

Stuff like system race and trade class, planet type, or even if a given planet will be randomly predisposed towards certain items.

I am, more or less, at the planetary coordinates -49.95, -39.68. I lie on the surface of the bunk, but do not pretend to sleep. I fear dreaming. The memory of the bleeding Atlas... The intermittent flashes... The pain in my chest... Surely all that must mean something... And deep down I know what, but I am afraid to imagine it. I came to Compostellar fleeing from the riddles of the Atlas, but not even here its influence disappears. The red god is omnipresent, you can't run away from him. My attempts to evade him are as ridiculous as those of a bacterium going from one place to another, believing that it is moving away from the organism it inhabits.

A few hours later, a noise outside brings me out of my thoughts. It is a bird, one of the creatures that inhabit the sky of this planet. Suddenly I remember that I haven't scanned them yet, I haven't added them to the catalog of Compostellar's fauna. So, I turn on the scanner of my multitool and point it at the creature, which observes me expectantly. It is a beautiful being, bicolor, with a short beak and membranous wings without a trace of feathers. Its body is covered by a blanket of fine fluff. Its tiny eye is wrapped in a dark mask, giving it a sophisticated look. I notice it pecking at something on the ground - an insect perhaps? I don't know. When its appetite is satiated, it takes flight and disappears into the gloom of the night.

I’m stuck, Phase 4 Treasure Hunt [Question]

Hey gang, as the title suggest I’m stuck on the exposition, phase 4, treasure hunt and I don’t like the only option I see of resolving it.

As it stands I have completed the pirate treasure map, etc… and got to the portal. Now when you open the pirate map it also gives you a map location to explore ruins. So I did that, and decided to explore further before I moved on.

The quest text says “Step through the portal”, but there are no further quest markers.

So I left the system, don’t know what it’s called or where it is, nor do I have the portal coordinates. I was foolish and relied on a quest marker that isn’t actually there. Also I tried using the station teleporter, but again no quest markers.

The only directions I can get is in the galaxy map… so I can in theory warp to the system on the other side of the portal I didn’t step through… but there is no telling how many jumps it is.

So you see my dilemma. I have researched this but there is no relevant info I can find.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

Hello Fellow Travelers,

I am making a return to No Man’s Sky soon - Starting a new game and really looking forward to it! I’ve never played with multiplayer or online in mind, but I’ve heard amazing things about the community and I can’t help but feel like I’m missing out on some awesome camaraderie and experiences in the game.

Finding the best S class ship [Question]

I’m on a new save, and wondering what the best course of action is. Should I follow distress signals and look to repair one, or save up a few million to buy one?

Also, your first free frigate is always C class as I understand, so can you reject it and wait for a free S class?

Short range teleporters keep bouncing me back to first teleporter? [Question]

I've got a mostly-vertical base stretching up many levels, with the floors connected with SRP's. They're all set up properly-- power connected, and with teleport cables running between pairs of teleports. Because it's vertically-oriented base, the teleports aren't spread apart very far on the horizontal plane.

Often when I use one, I will flicker to the destination, then be bounced back to the origin teleport.

For instance: I'm on Floor 0, and enter the teleport going to floor 1. I see a split second of floor 1 and then get bounced back to the floor 0 teleport I started in.

Has anyone run into this problem, and any suggestions for how to fix it?

I'm playing on Steam PC, up to date as of today. I am using two mods:

Transferring Expidition Rewards to a Normal Save? [Question]

Quick question about redeeming expidition awards on my main save. I just came back after a long hitus and started working on the expidition but was curious if I redeem the rewards in my expidition save, can I still get the rewards in my main save at the end of the (now) 3 weeks? I have been redeeming them just started wondering if that's going to screw me over in the end when the expidition is over? This is the first time doing an expidition and everything I've found is semi-unclear on how it works.

How to deal with abandoned freighters that have weird gravity? [Question]

I've come across a couple of these now and the first one said something about the freighter having some gravity issues, causing unexpected results, but I find that it seems more like it has invisible walls everywhere. As I was moving forward, one of them started pushing me sideways up a wall until my head was on the ceiling and then I couldn't move at all. Other times I'll head into a completely open space and just stop and slide sideways if I keep trying to press forward. Sometimes there's clipping with the sides of the ship.

Is this a bug? Or am I missing something?

Unselectable/Untargetable star clusters? [Question]

Was curious if anyone else has encountered this. I've been playing since launch and this is the first time I've seen it. I'm skipping around odyalutai, in the doquix region specifically, and huge swathes of stars are not selectable. I'm guessing I'm near some kind of void but like I said this is new to me.

Does anyone know if it's some kind of bug, or if they're just ghost systems or something?

Just finished my first expedition [Question]

I have been earning my PhD for the last 3 years and I have missed every expedition until this one due to being bogged down by schoolwork. Now that I am done, I took time to complete this expedition. What an awesome experience. I am really disappointed I missed the previous ones. Can anyone confirm that I might get a chance to do those older expeditions in the future?

Also, I just want to say, the artwork on those milestones is so awesome. I wish they were all available for me to put into my base/freighter. Or IRL stickers for my laptop...

I think its my OCD not letting me recruit anyone for my squadron who's ship is not the same color as mine.

But worse... Im still in my starter ship and I've seen ships i like...but after buying them and flying them something just feels off and I switch back to my starter ship...not sure what it is or why..but I feel my ships need to be red lol

Friend joining in on Freighter battle [Question]

We know about the 3h gameplay and 4 warps (5th spawns the battle)

My question is, if i play 3h and i get it to spawn, but she only has 2h, but joins me in the battle, will her hour reset and have to wait another 3h? or how does that work?

Sentinel attack on settlement BROKEN [Question]

Is anyone able to help me, My settlement was attack by sentinels and I tried to repel the attack, however this went on for about half an hour of just constant waves of sentinels, i tried to fly away and come back to fix it but it just spawned over 700 sentinels instead.

Am I doing something wrong? How long do the sentinel attack go on for? Can I fix this?

NO FREE FREIGHTER MISSIONS [Question]

Sorry for the caps, but this is just frustrating at this point... I've been able to have freighter battles, but the first few did nothing - no communication from the captain, no offers, etc. I go to visit the captain at the helm, and I can purchase the freighter. Later, I did finally get a communication after the battle, and now I'm an overseer. Next battle was just nothing, then next was the quest start for the minotaur exocraft. And just now, the start of 'Dreams of the Deep'. Are there other requirements than the jump 5 systems and play 3 hours after the last battle? I'm about to hit 40 hours, and still no freighter at all

Hit part limit on my favorite save. Devastated. [Question]

Right before I started EX6, I was in the middle of building a silver mine on my main normal save and was informed I hit the construction limit ( PC 16k ). I didn't know about the part limit and I have almost 700 hours on this save. At this point in the game base building is pretty much what I play for.

I went back and trashed a few bases I am not using but I am going to hit that wall again soon enough.

Can I get around this limit by not uploading what I build or do I need to start a creative mode game. I play with a couple of other ppl, it would suck if I can't use the build mechanic on that save anymore.

Doing the main story and gotten to the point where i go through the portal. Went through and saved game with save beacon and then quit.

Relaunched and now i reload into a water world like 500 ft about the surface and my ship floating in the air. I cant get to it cause its too high up and i cant summon it cause it says its damaged. Am I screwed?

Do you think they should do an update focused on integrating everything a little better? [Suggestion]

I don't know it this apply to Ad Nauseam rule, so feel free to remove this if it does.

I have been following NMS for years now and around 3 months ago finally gave it a go and I love it, but I feel it´´´'s worth to address some things besides the bugs and new stuff.

I believe at this point they should focus on integrating all the new content a little better, to do the main storyline is a hassle, maybe 40 hours in the game ask me to build technology I already deem obsolete, or ask me to do things it hasn't teach me properly yet, just cause I can do DLC before the main story.

And I know anyone already in the game don't care about this, I mean it in the interest of newcomers, with all the new stuff in it, and the positive press coverage, it has a lot of new players, but the extra content is made for people already in the game, to be a newcomer is chaotic, I have no problem with it, but if you don't know the development story, and are not a "let's check the wiki" kinda person, the game feel a little bit clumsy still, even if fun.

The can keep adding stuff, but just with the actual content, it already deserve the "full actual game with things to play with" status, but because everything is build "on top" it feels fragmented.

I've been hopping around the last few days after wrapping up the expedition. First time getting back in the game for a few years.

The last 6 or 7 systems have all had Paradise planets. It's been every jump for the last several, including a random portal address and jump. Am I just indescribably lucky?

Thank you HG for actually taking care of your players, coming from a newer player abandoned by elite dangerous [Discussion]

I’ve been blown away seeing how much work HG puts into constantly updating and keeping in contact with their player base. I came from elite dangerous after they abandoned all future content for console players, only to find a studio pumping out more content than ever for them. This is the biggest breath of fresh air I’ve experienced aside from Minecraft, most games are just half baked nowadays and content only barely trickles in. Fdev completely screwed over all console players, and here HG is giving us more content.

I’m loving my capital ship and managing a fleet and squadron, there’s so much depth here and more to learn. Thank you HG!!

What Happens When You Summon Your Freighter On A Conjoined Planet [Screenshot]

I went to a conjoined planet today. While on one planet I summoned my freighter to a position where the tail of the capital ship was just touching the surface of the opposing conjoined planet. Then I literally jumped over to the other planet to see what this looked like.

I knew the capital ships were gigantic, but this really shows you how huge they are!

Power from nearby base not connectable [Question]

For the past few days I have been trying to build an Indium farm, power problems have made me go to a nearby Electro-I’m Magnetic power hotspot. It is far enough a way that I hade to build a separate base to get that power. The problem arises when I tried to connect the long power line I made to a battery on my mining base. It did not charge. The power base battery line had 360,00 grid power available, but when I connected it to the farm battery, the farm battery said “grid power offline”. Does anyone know where I went wrong?

How does everyone stay focused? [Question]

I’ve been bouncing on and off NMS since launch back in 2016 especially with every content update but the thing that always drags me away is a lack of direction, I’ll be working on say a ship upgrade and then half way through I’ll get distracted and go off and do something else and then get distracted from that which just leads to me running in circles with no clear mental objective and then I’ll quit but I want to get properly stuck in this time so tell me, what are some awesome goals/rewards to focus on long term that will help me stick with it for more than 10/15 hours

Alright im going to keep this super brief. According to the wiki explorer class ships can come with up to 38 slots but ive been looking for about 30 minutes and havent seen a single one above 19. Is the wiki out of date?

Best Exosuit Upgrade (& Inventory) Layout? [Question]

Heyo! I was wondering, now that I finally have a maxed out General and Technology tab on my Exosuit, how do you guys handle your upgrades? I'd like to put together something good, but I'm not sure which upgrades you want to prioritize (I imagine Movement and Shields are the big ones), or which blueprints are worthwhile. Plus, I'd rather not take up 90% of my inventory space with this stuff, if possible lol

Back to the game since a year (those solar ship is really appealing). What should I know? [Question]

As the title, I left the game exactly one year ago since I had earned too much units and nanites. I have finished the storyline (I.e. reached the center of space and went to other system) and my storage was full of static device. I couldn’t find a reason to continue playing and thus I left. But now, hearing from this subreddit that many new things was added in the game (especially those new ships) I decided to give it another try. So I would like to ask:

a) Is that any major changes or additions in the game during this one year period? I only know there are stronger pirates (I almost got killed by them when I hop in the game a few hours ago and start the pirate questline).

b) I heard that we can now own 9 ships instead of 6? How?

c) Where can I find those solar ship?

d) Did the game increase the storage of players during the years? Seems like every pocket of mine (player, ship, cargo, storage) are already full and I can’t sell them since I have reached the limit of units. I heard you now have a cargo slot for ships? How can I expand it? Just like the usual way?

e) I remember some posts said you can harvest slimes/mould now? What is the type of the planets for this to be possible?

Living Ship blocked by base [Answered]

First time trying to get an LS, so doing the Starbirth mission. Made it to the portal in Euclid (Ischel-Althu), got to abandoned building and someone's put up a base. There are doors all around the building, and they put up a teleporter. When I use the teleporter, I get in the bldg, can get the Soul Chamber, but the exit has been blocked. This teleporter is in here, but w/out electricity and I don't think I can charge it? Am I crazy?

Thoughts? What a long journey to be blocked by a griefer right here... or I'm hoping I'm v dumb and someone says they had the same problem and solved it... wish I had been sent to another planet.

How exactly do Forged Passports work? [Question]

I had a high level with the vykeen and was attacking cargo ships and lost several levels, then when I turned in my passport at a regulated station in only gained +1 with the vykeen, but obviously lost 1 with every ship I destroyed.

Is this how it's meant to work?

Stuck on "Liberation" for expedition. Captain won't talk. [Question]

I've logged out and in, left galaxy and returned, landed on a planet and came back. Nothing works. So I went to another system and bought a freighter but it didn't count as doing it, I guess because I didn't rescue it. What the heck can I do? Can I just do all the other parts on this save and do that part on another expedition save? Should I just delete the save and start over? What the heck do I do?

I'm new to the game and love it buy by the stars is it still buggy as all get out. Ships randomly being tiny, freighters randomly tiny, missions not populating, ground "eating" your base because the game lets you alter the ground but doesn't tell you how bad that is for base making, and so on. I love it but gosh.

Please help meh.

Question about technologies [Question]

I’m still very new to this game and I just found my first opportunity to trade in my multi tool for another. This new one is way better but it lacks the terrain manipulator and the advanced mining laser. So if I were to exchange for this new one do I have to rediscover those technologies or do I only need to get the parts to rebuild them?

Need help with Expedition 6, Phase 4 'Treasure Hunt' [Question]

I've completed all milestones and quests for this expedition except only one. it's part of phase 4 'treasure hunt' where we're supposed to craft the 3rd and final pirate map fragment. I never got it but already have the first 2 and am able to craft the first 2. I've already reached rendezvous 5, reached galactic core, all that is finished except this one thing.

NMS Wishlist [Suggestion]

So I've been playing NMS a lot lately with the new update and the abandonment of Elite Dangerous, some of these suggestions are pulling from ED.

(At least a little bit, while both are space games I'm aware they are VERY different games.)

New Stars for systems. I know some update a while ago added multi star systems. I would like to see a bigger step in this direction. Neutron Stars and Massive Black Holes come to mind.

New space threats. In ED, warping in high alien (Thargoids) activity areas subjects you to the chance of being ripped out of warp speed by a Thargoid. They scan you and depending on your cargo depends on if they leave you alone or not.

I think NMS could really benefit from having a alien race outside of the playable three that poses a threat to the player or systems.

Multi-crew ships. With the last couple updates they've improved ship mechanics and ship combat. I would like to see a new type of ship that's maybe a little larger than any other ship. You could fly it solo like any other ship, but if you had a copilot it would allow for them to use different weapons.

Pirate/Faction owned bases. So a NPC base that you could assault, in the base is a vault that would have randomly generated loot. Faction owned in regular space, Pirate owned in Outlaw systems.

This idea comes from the game itself, sending out frigates on combat patrols, one of the entries takes about them assaulting a Pirate base and looting a vault. So one of the things I really like about ED is the immesive nature of flying your ship and going in and out of stations. It would be cool if they added an option in the menus for a 'hardcore' scheme or something.

More involved flight mechanics and contacting stations for landing. More danger in general. I'm currently pushing 300+ hours on a Permadeath save and I fear nothing, Outside of a game glitch.. Nothing.

Help with a strange bug? [Bug]

Every time I put down certain large structure base parts (corridor’s, cylindrical rooms, cuboid rooms the like) there’s a weird graphical glitch that makes it so random colours (most of the time red) will just, sort of be on there, but it moves based on perspective, I don’t know if anyone else has had trouble with this as I can’t find anything online, but if anyone knows any potential fixes please let me know

Im in the midst of doing an explore mission where I need to go to a planet and discover stuff. It’s telling me to discover 7 types of plants, but the planet literally only has 3 on it. Is this a bug or just really poor game design?

Why won't I get anymore settlement building opportunities? [Question]

It's been a long time since I've gotten the chance to build again and I'm beginning to wonder if I've hit some sort of limit.

The plot for the settlement is visibly much larger than what I already have, but I haven't gotten the chance to construct a new building in quite a while.

Additionally, I'd love to increase my settlement's population but the lack of building chances has gotten in the way. Even when I could build, I had only two opportunities to get buildings for extra settlers.

Should I keep waiting or accept the potential fact that my settlement is done regarding new buildings?

This game just keeps dragging me back. [Discussion]

I have enjoyed this game since I was introduced to it I believe in 2017ish. But it was always one of those, kill a week then go play something else. Usually ESO, or here as of late Cyberpunk. And yet HG tosses out content like I change socks, and I find myself abandoning everything to check it out said content and that leads to it dominating my game time. Just finished my first expedition, loved it, in fact I loved it so much I decided to start a brand new survival game. Something I've contemplated in the past but never really explored. Its been interesting to say the least, but then it hit me, Dammit! they done it again, sucked me right back in..... Infuriating...SMH

Help with portal [Question]

Why are all the NPC spacecraft invisible in the space station and why do my spacecraft disappear in my capital ship, requiring me to warp somewhere else to get them back? It's to the point of being unplayable if I have to constantly fix the failure of the devs.

Should I get a new settlement? [Question]

I'm currently in ownership of my first one, but I didn't know what to expect and kind of screwed myself over. I wanted way more residents and better profit, but didn't know there was a building max and built way too many single room generators.

Would getting a new settlement be a viable option to start over with better knowledge, taking into consideration how much care and all the materials I've dumped into this one?

Are HG-Discovered Planets Somehow Disconnected? [Question]

I've had two confusing situations happen. First, I was doing the current expedition and came across a specific spot on one of the rendezvous planets that I wanted to claim for a base later, using my non-expedition main character. So, I took a photo w/the address and took screenshots of the planet thumbnail (for relative location) and one of the exact coordinates. When I portalled there with my main character, the planet name, biosphere, and color scheme was identical (as was the planet thumbnail in the menu), but once I was standing in the exact spot I documented, the terrain was totally different.

And tonight, having recently completed the expedition and choosing to progress that new character (he's gonna be my outlaw character), I just tried to portal to the planet that my main character has my main settlement-adjacent base on, but the portal address (which I triple-checked and dialed twice!) brings me to some unknown solar system. The address matches exactly. And yes, I'm in Euclid with both characters.

What gives?!

Food Update??? [Suggestion]

Of all the things people are talking about adding to the game, no one that I have seen have mentioned food yet. It currently has almost no use other than a quick buff (not even enough for how rare some of it is.) Not only that, but there is really no variety in terms of item description. It may be too drastic of a change but I think some form of hunger system would make the game more immersive. Any thoughts?

I’ve been looking specifically for industrial frigates and have found 0 and have looked through at least 50 different frigates. Been doing a lot of stuff in my home solar system so I wasn’t sure if the different types of frigates were in specific types of solar systems or I’m just really unlucky and not finding any industrial frigates.

Capital Ship Upgrades [Discussion]

I have watched the videos, I have put in the work, but the time has come! I need to get my capital ship OP. Tip #1: Always try to be doing multiple things. Pick up the portable refiner so you can refine something from your inventory while exploring and mining.

Tip #2: Avoid multiplayer until unlocking the anomaly, can be stranded if not.

Tip #3: Exotic worlds only have 1 fauna so it's easy to scan all of them.

Tip #4: Need glyphs? All 16 are on one planet here

Q- "I was on the Anomaly and a bunch of expensive stuff showed up in my inventory. What do I do with it? A:" Congrats! Another player has bestowed you with a gift. Most likely it is an item to sell for some quick and easy cash. Usually the item description will tell you what it is used for.

Q: "Help, I claimed a broken ship and now I can't find my starter ship! Is it gone forever?" A:" If you merely selected to "claim" the broken ship and not "swap" it, then your old ship is still around. If you left it with launch fuel in the tank, you can summon it with the quick-menu. If it does not have fuel, it can be summoned on the Anomaly (once you unlock it), your freighter (once you acquire one).

Q- "Are crashed ships worth repairing?" A-" Unless it is an exotic, no. Scrap the ship at the space station, sell the items it gives you, and use those units...

How does the Minotaur ai work? [Question]

So I didn’t even know you could make the Minotaur follow you and help fight until,I got the mission that gives you a sentinel pet and has you upgrade it to your own personal sentinel. Now, after randomly getting his quest out of nowhere I look it up and see it gets you a sentinel to follow you and fight. I manage to get everything for it and am at the last mission to free my little flying sentinel bud except my Minotaur is just walking around during the fight and getting in my way but he’s not fighting anything. Just blocking my aim a lot.

Is his ai that bad or am I missing something? Let me add the only thing I have upgraded him with is the sentinel plans you get from the quest. Looking up trying to find if anyone else has this problem I notice you are supposed to insert an ai upgrade if you want him walking on his own but the sentinel upgrade seems to do that without it? Do I still need that to get him to fight? Also he only has the weapon that comes with the sentinel arm. Is that what I’m missing, weapons upgrades to him?

Do I only need Indium drive to warp to every galaxy? [Question]

Basically title. I currently have emeril drive and I'm about to get cadmium. But once I get the indium drive could I delete the other two if I wanted? I've been looking around and people have said I can warp to any star with Indium drive, although the other drives do give a small warp distance bonus. Any tips from people who have played awhile? Manage fleet and manage squadron does nothing. [Question]

Title pretty much says it all. When I go to the manage fleet console in my frigate and select manage fleet or manage squadron nothing happens. No menu pops up or anything, it just makes a sound and that's it. Is this something that needs to be unlocked or is it bugged?

Reset Milestone Missions? [Question]

Is it possible? I picked the Last Fragment milestone for the final map piece and it dropped it in the middle Of a huge ocean with a 37 minute trip via submarine to get there and another 37 to get back. There isn’t any land any closer than the little spit of island I found.

I tried warping several hundred light years but it’s not getting a reset option like the normal missions do. Any suggestions?

I had a dream about a cool feature in the game #2 [Discussion]

So I recently had a dream about how I flew around a world and next to my base gint fauna spawned the size of sand worms and it was pretty hostile. One of them was a giant crustacean like crab which looked like a giant wide crab (and when I mean giant I mean like it's back she'll looked like a mountain) and they were pretty hostile and they had a couple of other giant fauna with them and so I decided to fight them because they were coming to my base and when I fought them they dropped special loot (and they had uniqe mechanics). Wouldn't be cool if they released a animal hunt like update where they add mega giant coloaol Kaiju like fauna that we could hunt for sport and rare loot?

How does defending settlements work? [Question]

I just started playing this again after a few years away, and the game sprung all this settlement stuff on me. It was going fine until my second invasion, and now I'm starting to wonder if I'm missing something. My gun isn't great, but I've been able to pick off sentinels with some effort, but there are so damn many if them. Also, there's a giant mech taking very little damage and it launches these grenades that are extremely dangerous. It seemed like the only viable way to fight it was to get back in my ship, but that seemed to cause drones to spawn infinitely? AND the constant heat prevented me from landing again. Very frustrated and confused about what I'm supposed to be doing and why the game threw this at me now. I was just trying to find a freighter. 😭 Any advice appreciated. I feel like I've been suddenly handed a responsibility I'm not ready for, and I didn't even get any.

Tips for a first time expedition experience? [Question]

Heyo! I'm just about finishing up the Artemis questline, and I'm about to hatch the Void Egg that someone on the Anomaly gave me too. Those were my two big personal goals for a while, so I figured it's about time for me to venture into expeditions! However, I can't really imagine starting all over from scratch again, and the breadth of objectives ahead of me seem daunting. Does anyone have any tips for completing an expedition in a timely and fun manner for a first timer?

my solar ship changed after the latest update [Bug]

Pretty much what the title says. I play on ps5 a d I just got on after a small update that was around 700mb. When I loaded back in, my solar ship which used to have half moon sails, now has hex sails. Not that I mind, I prefer hex sails, but its still weird. Anyone else experiencing this bug?

Storage Organization [Discussion]

How do you guys organize your storage? I’m usually the type of guy to have 25 chests in Minecraft so I never lose something and buy it or make it again. Unfortunately I only have 10 storage rooms in NMS. How do y’all break it up?

Right now I do like one or two base elements and their upgraded versions. Then I do rare stuff, building materials, etc. I’m thinking of moving to doing one for common materials then 2nd tier refined items, then 3rd tier and so on.

How do solar ships affect ship spawn rates? [Question]

While trying to hunt down information on ship spawning the articles all say the same thing. 21 ships spawn in a system. 7 shuttles, 1 exotic, 3 fighter, 3 hauler, 3 explorer, and 4 of whatever the main race there is. How do solar ships factor in now? I know they are more common in pirate sectors, but if 1 happens to spawn in a non pirate system, what ships can it replace? Logic to me would say it should replace a shuttle. Anyone have any information on if ship spawning was updated with outlaws that I haven't been able to find?

New Player (Xbox) and I was wondering what to complete first. [Question]

So, I started 3 days ago and I’m in love. I really want to complete the base game story first before I become a pirate. I’m currently on my way to finding atlas.

The three main quest I have is “finding Atlas” the Artemis Quest” which I have talked to Apollo and need to meet his buddy now. The third quest I forgot and I’m at work haha.

I was assuming that the atlas quest is the base game quest? Or does it even matter? I would like to know what quest I should complete first.

Help with glitched item (consciousness bridge) [Bug]

i have a consciousness bridge in my inventory that seems to be glitches. im able to sell it to anyone or give it to anyone and i just get one back. i am able to do this infinitley as far as i know. not exactly game breaking since at most i can get 2k units a pop and i can only sell one at a time (would be absurdly time consuming to dupe it a ton) anyone have similar problems?

Resetting the Starbirth quest [Question]

So I'm about ready to get my first living ship and I found the coordinates of a pretty one that I want.

I'm following the instructions on the wiki but I can't seem to get it working.

I warped to a different system, activated the egg message in my ship so it points to a host, warp back to the system that has the ship I want and fly to the right coordinates of the crashed ship. At this point I'm supposed to reset the quest to have the crashed ship change into my chosen living ship, but despite my game telling me my mission target is in another system, it's not giving me the option to reset the quest.

I thought having the mission target be in another system is the requirement in order to reset, so am I missing something here? Is this patched?

Expedition 6 - HELP! [Question]

I'm at the end of the first galaxy in expedition 6, but the core is 3,000 LY away from it's closest system! Do I seriously need to max out my freighter's hyperdrive just to get there? This seems like an oversight

The game is unplayable Xbox series X [Discussion]

I've got just under 300 hours game time I haven't stopped playing this since giving it a go via game pass but I've taken nearly all I can now as its become unplayable.

Firstly it causes the series X to shut down at least 3 times a night I try playing the game which is frustrating enough but to top that... My mineral extractors and my plants countdown timers reset all the time so they're not producing anything anymore. I've tried looking this up online and all I can find is that this occurs when you mess with the timer on PC or console well I haven't messed with anything I didn't even know you could and even if I did I wouldn't anyway. Also for some bizarre reason one of my frigate expeditions shows 97 hours to complete when it should of been 9!!

Has anyone else experienced this? And if so have any suggestions what I can do to fix this? I don't want to stop playing this game but at this rate I'll have no choice.

Pristine brain problems [Question]

Hey yall, Im new to the game and Im working on the "trace of metal" storyline but when i got to the walker drone part it was invincible so i spend like 20 mins shooting at it until my game crashed. Now when i load up the game, sentinals come after me but the walker is gone and it tells me i need to increase my wated level before it will spawn. Is this a bug or am I doing the story wrong somehow?

Tip : get a FPS boost by modifying some settings in No Man's Sky (PC) [Discussion]

This is only useful for people who play with low end GPUs.

Looks like GTX 1050 is not the best to play this game. I set everything to a minimum or disabled, but the game is still not smooth at all on 1080p.

I found that playing with Resolution Scaling gives impressive results. The sweet spot for me is 70%, and I increased the max FPS to 75 because my monitor supports that.

Yes, the game will look a bit worse, but it is a good price to pay for decent FPS. If you have a not so good GPU, you can try this. It helps me a lot.

Just lost 5 days of play time. [Suggestion]

There should really be a confirmation pop-up before loading a save. My controller disconnected, I reconnected it, pressed A like the prompt said, and it reloaded a manual save from 5 days ago, erasing my S class venator I'd just gotten, as well as the missions I'd finished and all other progress.

Terrible, terrible UI design choice, especially considering literally everything else is "hold to confirm," even with that option disabled.

Pirate Systems : The New and nearly enjoyable units farm. [Information]

I know people like doing the typical cheesy way of crafting fusion igniters, stasis devices and the activated indium farms ... but what if you tried to play without doing so? What if instead of your typical way, you went straight to piracy and got your units from that more 'exciting' way of life?

There are plenty of reasons to not do so, however, I think, if anyone is like me and hadn't tried it, they may find it somewhat entertaining. I will say the game is subpar when it comes to information popups (how many times have you tried to get that planet to show it's information?) and the controls are wonky when added in with the issue above (are you sure what you're about to shoot is what you're actually shooting?). Like really, a strafe and full stop would be quite beneficial.

Anyhow, my point is. Try to break free from the typical grind (why do people need that many units anyhow?) and try something New. It actually ain't too bad. And for the newb that just got to space ... that first Pirate system and some time can net you some hefty pay when sold in a Wealthy system (likely of a different race than you're raiding.).

For the record. It is literally the shoddy controls and lack of intuitive frontal scan / target hover information issue that makes space annoying to deal with. Dare I mention the auto-aligning with targets we're not trying to warp to?

Bio-Domes - Worth it? [Question]

Now that I'm pretty much at end game, I find myself wondering.. are Bio-Domes actually worth building?

A dome can certainly pump out a good thousand or so of any given plant every day you log in and pick them, but given the space they require and resources that have to be invested in planting things in them they don't seem terribly efficient to me.

A refiner can turn oxygen + various minerals into basically any plant in the game, or can essentially turn those minerals into whatever their corresponding plant is if you simply add a stack of the plant in place of oxygen.

Given the ease of setting up mining spots, and the sheer quantities that can be stored up daily.. I can log in and have 20,000 of each mineral sitting in storage fairly easily, which is a simple matter to drop into refiners to obtain tons of plants.

What are people's thoughts on this? Do you build fields of bio-domes, literally dozens or hundreds of them, or do you build extractor bases and go the refinery route?

How does seemingly every planet/star system in a galaxy have a unique portal address? [Question]

This is something I've been wondering about lately due to the amount of portals I've been using. Wouldn't the amount of permutations eventually cease and/or need to be shared between multiple star systems? I know the addresses are translated coordinates essentially, but how would so many planets have a set of coords that's so precise with only 16 symbols and 12 inputs in a universe with billions of planets? Or am I being silly and missing something that would COMPLETELY answer my own question?

Multiplayer performance is terrrible for me on Xbox One X - is it any better on Series X? [Question]

I've been playing NMS on my Xbox One X for about a month now, mostly with multiplayer turned off. Gameplay was pretty smooth with it off. I turned it on a little over a week ago, and found the game became laggy whenever other players were present (on the Anomaly).

I started playing the expedition a few nights ago, and the game went to hell. It's a slideshow a lot of the time, and it usually takes several seconds to snap back to normal view after using the analysis visor. It takes so long for terrain details to pop in that I sometimes have difficulty landing on planets because I can't see obstacles on the ground (trees, boulders, etc.). Buildings will sometimes take several minutes to appear. The bugs have multiplied as well; for example, I have on several occasions had to reload a save because I fell through/into the ground when landing, and the game now crashes to the Xbox desktop once or twice per gaming session. I've already set the graphics to performance instead of quality, and it didn't help.

I've considered upgrading to a Series X at some point, and I'm wondering if doing so will help at all with this game in particular. If so, I might decide to upgrade sooner rather than later. I can't tell if the game is just inherently buggy in multiplayer or if my hardware is inadequate, but the performance issues are really starting to impair my enjoyment of NMS.

My friends and myself wanted to come back after 2 years on the game to try out the new content and have a blast. Last time we quit because we didn't understand how multiplayer works. Now we ran into the same issue.

Is there any way to have an adventure together, on the same server, in the same solar system, with only one big base for all of us ? Like Minecraft ?

For now, one of my friends put down his base computer and we started building, but as soon as everyone got offline and I was getting online solo, I couldn't find the base anymore. No TP, not the same solar system, nothing... I don't get it

How do I get an exorcraft (worker) terminal? I can build Exocrafts (really old save) but can't hire a technician? [Question]

I'm on a pretty old save after a few years hiatus. I think I might have already done the mission(?) but I'm not certain. Anyway, whether my old save has experienced a hiccup of incompatibility or not, I have no blueprint to build the technicians terminal which the wiki and the likes says I need.

I can already build the Exocrafts after buying their blueprints from the Space Anomaly.

The Fractured Planets (update) [Suggestion]

My idea on this is that there is a chance when you visit a new solar system in every Galaxy you could find a("dead/ broken planet/s") for instance it may vary from a giant crater on the planet, a giant crack on the planet to the core, or a planet that is broken in half, oooor planet that is in big giant chunks and possibly have the chance to find a solar system that has all of those planets. So do you think this is a fun idea or a bad idea.

Do void eggs not work in certain systems? [Question]

First things first, I've done the Living Ship quest before so this thread is about getting your second or beyond Living Ship, and also yes it's a regular Void Egg and not an Active Void Egg, so it should work and it did work in the system I was in before.

But yea I've been pulsing around this system for literally more than an hour now and the Living Ship isn't contacting me. I've tried landing on a planet and reloading and I've tried restarting the game entirely but I just can't get it to activate. It's a 3-tier economy, Peaceful Vy'keen Yellow Star System and it has life.

At this point I'm just gonna move on to another system but I'm still curious, does anyone know if the Void Egg just doesn't activate in certain systems for some reason?

What's the deal with settlement disputes? [Question]

I've been managing a settlement for a few days, and often I've come across this sort of dispute:

Party A says that an item belongs to them, but party B says that it belongs to them. The item has obviously been tampered with.

Choose: Does the item belong to party A (UNKNOWN OUTCOME) or party B (UNKNOWN OUTCOME).

Inevitably I choose one at random and, so far, have gotten mostly -% happiness. I look for clues in the text, but find nothing. What the hell is the deal with these? Is it just a random +/- happiness? Why doesn't the text give you any insight into what might be the 'right' choice? Is there something I'm missing?

A Trace of Metal Quest Bug [Bug]

So my gf and I are having an issue finishing the part where you get the Sentinel Hardframe Right Arm.

The pillar just tells us to leave and there is only one node and it doesnt do anything when you destroy it.

Also the quest keeps telling her to use the location scanner but when she does and it hits 100% it does nothing

Anyone know some workaround?

Drop Pod Coordinate Data [Question]

I have been saving my gathered drop pod coordinate data for a rainy day. Then when I decided to go ahead and max out my suit I found that I can just find drop pods with my scanner on my exocraft. If I remember correctly the main quest walks you through getting the advanced scanner that finds drop pods so what’s the point in this item existing? Seems like it isn’t needed and dilutes the reward draw pools that include it.

bug in a mission [Bug]

I am currently doing the apollo the adventurer mission and am up to the part where you are supposed to infiltrate the korvax facillity. However, when I arrived at the specific coordinates the marker disappeared and there was no korvax facillity. Since then I have been doing other missions and when I select the ghosts in the machine path and it says to breach the facillity door with a boltcaster without providing any marker to show where I am supposed to go. Also when I go into the galaxy map it doesn't let me select the "current mission" pathing option when I have the mission selected. Any help on how to fix this mission would be appreciated.

Does the Frontier/ Settlement maps stuff work for anyone? [Question]

So to start, I accidentally accepted the mission to find a settlement in a random system so I know I screwed up. BUT me and my friends found a perfect planet and really want a Settlement there. I figured my friend who hasn’t accepted the mission could pop some Settlement maps and find one but for some reason when he pops them, absolutely nothing happens. I even tried leaving the game so that he can try on his own and it still doesn’t do anything. They just get wasted. Its been about 10 of them already. Is this a glitch or an issue others have experienced? It seems my only solution is to jump 14 times to the planet my mission is on to get a settlement at some random spot. But its becoming a huge bummer and kind of killing it for us. Any way to fix this or make sense of it? Thanks,

anyone elses solar ships change color from 3.89? [Question]

I just logged on after updating it on ps4. And my two S-class solar ships I have, which I adored both of them and it took like a week to find both and get comfy with them and fully upgrade their slots, and now I logged on and their colors changed. Both of them had this black/chromish look with red/blue accents on each ship, like one had red and the other had blue. But now that black changed and both of them are blinding white. And now I'm a little mad cause I don't like the look of the ships after this update. I think we need ship customization to solve this. At least a recoloring option.

PSA: Solar Sail Ships are still broken in v3.89! [Bug]

So after acquiring a few copies of the same ship for the purpose of using them in a Squadron, after portaling back to another galaxy, saving, quiting, restarting & reloading, I found that all but ONE of the ships had changed color from yellow/yellow to red/white. So I created a backup save, and did some investigating...

Original ship I bought & upgraded for the test.

A literal copy-past, with a slight inventory edit. WTF?!

The ships' JSON code is perfect... after comparing exactly matching lines repeatedly for half a day now, trying to find some error, some off variable somewhere when there isn't one, I'm left disappointed. I can't figure out why the game is doing this, when two ships can be identical in the code but look different in-game.

This has been so aggravating, does this mean that all ships don't look like what they're actually supposed to be?

You can finally find that one perfect ship with the exact permutation of parts & colors that you wanted, only for the game to decide "no, it's not", and all of this can be fixed just by letting us be able to create our own seeds for Ships & MTools (similar to Mass Effect character face codes). You can already upgrade Classes & Inventory! Just add a Seed Editor to the Outfitting stations for a price!

Reverse tentacles squid ship location? [Question]

Hey, so the other day my buddy and I were cruising around - he stumbled on a squid type exotic. However, the tentacles faced away from the cockpit (reverse from standard). I can't find anything like this online - but I've seen one other at the nexus once upon a time.

Anyone have any coordinates or leads on where I can find one of these? I really liked the aesthetic of this one... the front leading cockpit is highly desirable for me. I think it was in the Brunghu, or whichever one starts with a b, galaxy.

[EDIT] Just to clarify, a series of unrelated circumstances (several crashes and crazy bugs) caused us to forget what space station this was on, and honestly I never used the portal so - not sure if that's in my list or not; I've yet to see another after about 2 days of searching. So I assume not.

New player [Question]

Hi there. I know these posts are annoying for people who have been playing for a long time, but I literally only got into video games during lockdowns. I have only ever played Skyrim before now, but I recently purchased NMS.

I'm not a seasoned gamer, and I'm having trouble with figuring out the basic controls. I'm running NMS on Steam, using a PS5 controller. It's getting to the point that navigating through the menus and especially flying the ship are really annoyingly difficult. I died and lost my entire inventory on a horrible planet with almost no resources, and worst yet, I'm out of launch fuel for my ship. This really sucks, because I just found the super cool ship that I have to repair, and the resource depot (Sentinels killed me right next to it.) Now, I'm out of launch fuel, my refiner is literally on the other side of the planet, and I'm trying to gather resources to build a new one where I am, with sentinels all around me, while having NO resources.

Being that I'm 10 hours in, should I just start a new save? There are only 5 slots...

Anyway, does anyone have a link to a handy guide about the actual controls using the PS5 controller default settings on Steam? I need a tutorial... then again, when I started this game, I needed a tutorial to even play the tutorial.

Best current way to get Salvage frigate modules [Question]

With all the current updates - what is the best way to get them currently? Im taking my time playing the game. On Survival, no exploits, no hunting particular ship for days. Im mainly exploring and having great time. I installed all the drives on my ship, so I could visit all the systems and was having a blast until I got a Freighter and realised I cant use it to go everywhere anymore. Since I like to have a bit of RP in my head - Freighter was supposed to "allow" me to travel further. I have a rule that I dont travel further than 100LY in my ship, only freighter. But a good while has passed since I got the freighter amd I was only able to gather 1 Frigate Salvage Module. All I want is to update the Freighter shield, so I could go anywhere.

Im not a big fan of attacking fleets. As far as Im aware - they nerfed the chance to get them with recent updates anyway. Plus I dont want to lose standings with other races. I did derelict freighter once, but got nothing there either. Emergency beacon coordinates are mainly finding abandoned buildings lately. Its turning into a bit of a grind, which is completely against my style.

What is the best way to get them currently? And another question - if I warp to a red/green/blue system with my ship - can I summon a freighter there, without damaging it?

My permadeath challenge parameters [Discussion]

I tried out a few of the challenge parameters posted here on permadeath and had a lot of fun with them. It got me thinking what is possible with some of the new updates so I launched in with the following restrictions:

No starter ship (pretty standard)

No starter multitool (punch rocks and plants for resources)

No HUD until you reach the first space station

No refining (you can usually find everything you need)

Eliminate currency (not allowed to spend units, nanites, or quicksilver)

No photo mode (except for the occasional progress screenshot)

No calling your ship to you (I may make an exception for landing pads)

No teleporting (maybe, not settled on this one yet and I think you have to teleport once to move the story along, will test)

I'm currently just under 7 hours in. Spawned on a frozen planet in a Vy'keen system. I was given a multi-tool about 3 hours in so I have access to a scanner now and have found an underground rock with Pure Ferrite as the secondary element so I should be good on the no refining part. Still searching for a ship. Once I find and fix a ship it should be smooth sailing if I can make it to the space station and activate my HUD. Then I can start searching distress signals for new ships to scrap or swap to.

I will be missing out on frigates, squads, and probably derelict freighters (I'm not sure if you can get a receiver as a mission reward and I don't think Helios provides them until you've purchased one) but I think most everything else is available to me.

Thoughts so far: I feel this set of restrictions changes a lot of the built-in values in the game. Upgrades of any class are valuable because of the materials they break down into or just to install because something is better than nothing. No HUD makes exploring a planet almost meditative, find high ground, peer out, choose the next high point to trek to,...

Different Systems, Same Freighter [Question]

I'm trying to look for a freighter, but no matter what system I go into, the same freighter squadron is waiting for me. Sometimes a second squadron warps in, but it's also the same freighter. I'm trying to locate one of the freighters from NMS Exchange. I fought my first battle, rejected that freighter and then have been playing for over 15 hours, collecting glyphs and exploring and over that entire time, the freighter squadron I mentioned before is always there in the system I warp into and no second freighter battle has occurred.

Did I mess something up?

Expedition thoughts [Discussion]

So I get that doing an expedition grants cosmetic rewards, fine. What I don’t get is why i can’t do an expedition with my current ship and exosuit that I’ve spent a while getting setup right (if a litttle op)

I just don’t feel the need to force a player to start a new save game to participate in an expedition is a necessary mechanic, I mean I’ve done a lot to get where I am in game so why can’t I fly in the ship I’ve worked hard on..

I have did over 20 warp jumps and still can not reach mission target.. I think I just went back to wrong station in different place of galaxy and way to travel from this location to mission target is gigantic.

How to check target location of this mission? I just want to know where exactly I have to fly, not just direction, so I will be able to teleport to nearest station and fly from there.

Love my Settlement location [Discussion]

Once I claimed my Settlement I did the Trace of Metal mission.

That is when I discovered just north of me, in ship take off and land right away is a Sentry Base, also next to that is a Monolith. On flying back to the settlement, south of me is a NPC Colossal Archive building which is about the same distance.

Somehow I got teleported to the anomaly before even fixing up my first ship... ??? [Question]

So, I was taking a break from my main playthrough (in which I am currently in the Megalec system) and decided to start a new game to explore a random planet.

In this new game, I reached the starting ship, got the quest to fix it and, while I was on my way to gather supplies, I don't know what I did with the controls but, suddenly, I got the loading screen from the teleporter and ended up on the landing pad of the anomaly, not even near the teleporter there.

even weirder, I was now in the Megalec system from my previous playthrough but only half the planets where marked as discovered.

stupidly, I decided to reload almost immediately instead of investigating the anomaly and its npcs.

Anyway, does anyone know what could have happened? am I missing something obvious here?

Been a while.. [Question]

How would you guys recommend making money early game? I haven’t played in 2 years and back then I made most of my early money just crashing economy’s until I was wealthy enough in the game to do whatever I wanted. I wanna try all the new additions to the game though and figured I’d start a new play through, I’m still on my first planet got my ship fixed and got the basic resources needed. when I scrap a ship, my other ship on the station full of stuff gets emptied [Bug]

I get to the station with ship A, i got to ship B, and select "add to fleet option" now both ship A and B are mine, I find better ship C, I dont want ship B anymore, I add that to fleet as well, board ship B to make it my primary, scrap ship B, ship A is empty with a lower class and less slots than before.

So I was upgrading my S-class exotic's inventory by scrapping other A/S-class ships and after a while i was quite happy with the outcome, therefore I installed all my hyperdrive, launch thruster etc. upgrades. Found one more A-class fighter, bought it, scrapped it and came back to my exotic to see this. Excuse me?

Ultra thicc fog when hovering over planets ?? [Question]

Hey ! (Kind of) new player here, I've been getting back into the game after a few years and discovered there are mods for this game.

However, whenever I fly in my ship over planets, I litteraly can't see anything until I get tight close to the ground to the point where this is what a planet surface looks like for me when pretty much directly looking to the ground :

I wanted to know if this is a known issue caused by mods (guessing it would have something to do with one that tweaks planets generation) or if it's a vanilla feature that's been added since last time I played this game because it's really annoying. It does that on every planet I've been on and I've tested like 20+ (it switches back to normal when I get on foot btw, hence why I think this is an issue of some sort)

Save beacons and other players... [Question]

I already know that only players in my group should be able to see my beacons, but what about picking them up? Assume a random player who is not in my group lands near one. Does he see it? Can he save at it? Can he pick it up? Can members of my group pick up or otherwise steal them?

Strange solar ship bug [Bug]

So ever since the outlaws update and I've been noticing a strange visual bug with the solar ships of other players. they all appear in their second state (transformed but sails folded) even when landed, and the landing gear doesn't even extend. Is everyone experiencing this or is it just me? This only happens with other players' ships but not my own for some reason. This is also in addition to other player capes not spawning at all (possible correlation between bugs?). I've included screenshots as well

Quad eggs, how do I use it? [Question]

So, I bough a Quad Egg (sentinel spawn capsule), but it doesn't give me any option to actually use it. In my inventory it doesn't look as an egg, but as a purple icon with the picture of a quad sentinel in it.

Spoilers Confusion as to Main Questlines [Question]

I started playing this game a few days ago after feeling an urge to try it out again and have been having a blast. However I'm a little confused about the Artemis and Atlas story paths.

I've been trying to find solid information as to which I should do first cause I keep seeing things about then sending you to a different galaxy at the end of one or both of them.

My question is which one should I finish first? I don't particularly care about spoilers too much so an easier path to follow for me to write down would be appreciated. Like should I finish the Atlas Path and then travel to the new universe to finish Artemis? Like I want to see as much of it as possible

Legacy Structures [Suggestion]

I'd really love for the readdition of Legacy construction items. The concrete wall is fantastic for a blank surface to place items on, and the wooden wall/arches have a nice rustic feel to them that the timber ones don't.

Sentinel Freighters.... [Discussion]

I was standing on the landing platform at a Minor settlement. Three Sentinel Freighters silently emerged one by one from the ground in front of me and lifted vertically into the sky. Has anyone else seen this? It's terrifying. So they can emerge from the ground just like Sentinels. They then drifted upward, and warped out. Whatever the developers have planned for these things in the future, I'm dreading it.

Solar Ship sails changed after the patch. [Bug]

The funny part is that if they changed to anything but the little wimpy circle I'd be fine with it, but my cool ass ship, that I just found last week and fully kitted out, randomly decided to change it's solar sails to round.

Does this stuff ever get reverted? Or am I actually boned? I was having a ton of fun too but this really takes the wind out of my sails (pun intended?).
