The Tragic and Early Death of Iteration A12BC6A7FFD3987 [Discussion]
This is just an account of how badly my most recent Permadeath start went. I've had many permadeath starts go just fine, this one did not.
Spawned on a scalding hot planet, and entered the nearest cave to avoid a quick death by heat exposure. There I repaired my scanner, and gathered enough cobalt to make some ion batteries. All good so far! My hazard protection will not be an issue!
Only it turns out, upon scanning, that I can find plenty of sodium flowers, but very, very few oxygen flowers. And what's worse is there is practically no carbon anywhere. There are what looks like dead trees, but they are actual minerals made of salt. The planet has lots of spindly, red and brown shrubs, but these are only visual decoration -- they are not targetable, you can't harvest anything from them.
Turns out the only actual usable plant is a short reddish cactus-like thing with a brownish yellow flower. They are shorter than the non-targetable decorative scrub vegetation, and the same color, so that I cannot spot them at any distance. I have to actually, like, search through the undergrowth to find them, and there are not many of them to be found. Each one is worth a whopping 4 carbon.
So by the time I reach my ship, My life support is empty and I'm taking damage, and my mining laser is out of charge from trying to harvest dihydrogen along the way. There are 4 oxygen flowers growing near the ship (the largest group of them I will see in this ill-fated iteration), which I make it to just in time to delay death for a few minutes longer.
I duck into my ship and start the repair process. I decide to destroy my Rocket Launcher for 50 condensed carbon, so I can recharge my mining laser.
On the way to retrieve the Hermetic Seal, I am desperately searching for the little cactus things. I find a handful, but again, each one is only worth 4 carbon. I find a...
