if you switch to ship cockpit camera, you can use the mini radar to locate planets in the current star system - you cannot leave a star system by just pulsing super far away; the way we goto a diff star system we've never been before is through hyperdrive+galaxy map, and you only get hyperdrive after progressing early quests/missions for a bit

consider this - the last time you entered+exited your ship, it updated your restore point save slot (accessible in the options menu) - reloading that will revert progress since then, but also bring you back to wherever you were when you last exited ship.

the only way to get corvettes to rank up legitimately is spending nanites.

well, in normal mode (not so much in challenge) you can do a "runaway mould" farm.. that's a popular choice.
i personally like to murder sentinels, and open the "glass" they drop, which gives upgrade modules that can be sold for nanites.
you can (if you have cash) go to pirate stations and buy loot crates, open those for upgrade modules, etc.

There tend to be themes within regions of space, not only just for planet colours

You can still get it today in the game once you kill enough titan worm spawns at nests...every so many you get a leather manuscript and once you have five leather manuscripts you get the Writhing Manuscript...one time only though. You can't repeat, once you got them you got them. And they do unlock lore catalogue entries.

the red ones seek you out and attack you without cause.

Once it's time for a capital ship encounter see if you run into one, if not reload the restore point(should be in previous system) and try again. Tip: do NOT do this with a corvette...it'll screw you over. Never hunt for freighters with a corvette.

Plenty, but they haven't screwed me over hunting freighters. The issue is this: normal ship docks with NPC freighter, can't save as you don't own the freighter...if not S you don't take it, reload restore point, and can try again that or any other system...all is fine. Now when you dock with an NPC freighter the corvette does NOT give a single fuck about who owns the freighter...it WILL create a restore point because you're on your corvette...and then if the freighter sucks...well...sucks to be you. Gootta wait another 3 hours and 5 warps to see another capital. Also @vapid plaza

trying to pretend rock a is a new species compared to rock b that looks exactly the same as rock a and they’re 5 feet apart is wild

by pretending everything is unique, it makes scanning a chore instead of something fun

and it makes nothing unique

i genuinely think the game would be 10x better if they removed the scanner and made more intractables unique to certain planet types

the Dissonant planets were such a cool addition and then they never utilized planets in the same way again

trying to pretend that every planet is unique just means that in an ocean of choice, you’re going to ignore 99% of it

or they should keep the scanning but shift the focus to the creatures

especially following Xeno Arena there’s some really cool and unique creatures i enjoy seeking out and discovering
