Look for planets with the "salvageable scrap" resource when scanning. Then when planetside look for the gold ones with the scanner and dig them up. Similar to the buried technology modules, but slightly different. Will need to break them open to get the goods. Also they are items that go to inventory instead of a currency you use to unlock blueprints. So each corvette piece that you dig up is a consumable in that manner.

u can do frigate industrial expeditions, shoot cargo pods of other freighter fleets in the system (although it does decrease your standing with whatever race that system is), or loot wrecked or derelict freighters
