When you feed an animal underwater, and then interact with it, but don't exit the dialogue window, a few things happen:
Their organic tissue just regenerates normally, and you can harvest again after 33 seconds or so, and by not leaving, you don't have to feed them again.
Additionally, your underwater protection doesn't go down.

No. But you can unlock all the rewards at quicksilver dealer once you finish. And if you pack the tech you can transfer it to your main save as long as you put it in the expedition terminal
