It’s on you to add shapes in. I notice the complexity limit is a harsh, harsh thing but you essentially half to finish the entire ship before decorating, and you can never edit again.

I FOUND OUT WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE FREIGHTER SANDBOX AND WHY NONE OF THE PREVIOUS METHODS WILL FIX IT!!! The clipping of the actual freighter design isn't unloading when entering the sandbox region. So, while graphically the top of the freighter gets replaced, the clipping/navmesh of the top of the freighter remains.

Also frigate missions, and you can barter from the terminal to swap out ones you don't want for something more desirable. They also DON'T unlock like other things in NMS so if you want two wiggy widgets ... unfortunately you have to find both, you can't just re-buy it from the console.
