I think you're refering to a technique called frustum culling, which basically de-spawns everything you can't see when you're not looking at it. almost all modern 3d games do that

that hint is.. well, misleading. you'd have gotten that larger reward if you had a) destroyed the pirate freighter without destroying engines (yep, there's enough time, destroying shield gens and fuel rods in both trenches) or b) had destroyed engines+all cannons or engines+shield gens+fuel rods, but ship had enough dps to destroy the pirate freighter in less than 5s after the surrender.

in short, you cant get the larger reward pool - that includes a freighter s-class module like 99% of the times - if you board the pirate freighter.

Capital freighters can only be encountered during the rescue events, where they are under attack

I used to love the big capitals... now I only go for systems.

Those events have a cooldown between them, of 3 hours of unpaused gameplay and 5 warps

I still focus more on the ships though. Since I hardly see the freighter that much.

My current sentinel is still going to be my main flight for a pretty long time though. WIll probably go back to my explorer at some point...
