Personally I find Normal way more enjoyable than permadeath/survival because in permadeath, it takes an extremely long time to get resources and you can barely carry any.

You can explore and build more bases in normal + more people play there.

Took a lot of work to build my underwater quartz(B), Lithium(A), Electromagnetic(A) base at 1200u depth with temps hovering around -160 but it is done. It is just a small outpost. The planet has heavy storms so there should be storm crystals in theory but so far all i have seen is 50-100 u tall waves for a few mins at a time, no actual weather. had a lot of issues where the base didn't want to extend correctly and had to delete and rebuild at one point because it wouldn't extend no matter what I tried.

Disabling shields takes too long (in my experience). Get in close under the shields, take out the engines on the rear, and then you have lots of time. Pity about the civilian freighter. (I'm slow 😉 )
