Can be very efficient. Runaway Mould can be harvested in vast quantities very quickly but since it's slow to refine it's best to have a lot of refiners running at once. 10k mould breaks to 2k nanites but slow to refine, so you don't want to be making just 2k nanites in that time, so something like 10 refiners at once should be good.

Way too many refiners...that would probably crash the game...plus a lot of running around as you have to have 5 cuboid length space between every 3 medium and 2 large refiners. You should be more than good with 10 to 20 refiners in 2 to 4 refining rooms.

But if you mean ground extractors form a hotspot, I don't think there are any Runaway Mould hotspots in the game. You can increase your mining output by using a MT with high mining bonus(pistol or atlantid), all the relevant tech in supercharged slots and auto-consuming the right food.

The stars in the middle are there, they just don't get shown on the map. You can use a save editor to set your location to those systems. You can't use the galactic map to warp out of systems that aren't displayed.

Interceptor can also use dissonant crystals or whatever they're called I think. Interceptors can use all the regular ship stuff plus the crystals for all the chargeable tech. They make for easy warp fuel at least...for shields it's probably better to use batteries or sodium.
