I know this is a very unpopular opinion, but I cherish the first ship you get during the expedition. It tends to be ugly as all hell, but its almost something that I connect with during the pearlous adventures.

I was pretty careful last time, had about ~30 hours, didn’t engage in combat unless absolutely necessary, like when I went for an S-class Dreadnought.

I died because I was looking for an Echo Locater to farm Sent. Ships.

The planet I was on had an extreme storm going on, so I had to go underground. However, the little tiny Corrupted Sents. (the quadruple types?) got into my tunnel and I didn’t react in time. 🤷

There are 256 galaxies, but yes, all players in a galaxy can encounter each other
(Barring the Switch version of the game, which doesn't have multiplayer at all because of the reasons why.)

welll you can now take your normal save INTO the expedition from the tterminal in the anomaly. you can THEN exit tthe expedition any time from the same terminal. If you have the nanites for it, you can even copy your ship and multitool TO the expedition.
