I've found Atlas systems and Black Holes have a slightly higher chance of being prediscovered (since the game funnels us to them). Sometimes you may stumble into an area where a player or a group has been busy discovering, but even that is rare. (I found a Galactic Hub backup capital near my Shadow empire where I was trapped from 2016 to 2020 filling in discoveries in a comparatively small bubble of space due to damage to my save.)

Na, that breaks optimization a lot. Ripples are textures for the most part, with Normal maps and possibly Bump maps creating an illusion of depth. If every droplet created a ripple effect, only if it was only visible on stagnant water, they would still lead a humongous calculation by the ALU.

1. Complete the Artemis Path (the main story of the game).

@hexed flume if you go to your discovery tab you can look at previously visited systems. It should show pirate controlled with a skull. You can then waypoint the system or use a station teleporter to go back to it

Playing on PS4 is interesting because you'll be flying around a planet and see a bunch of weird lights, and if you slow down then 2 seconds later you see a landing pad. Then 15 seconds later the rest of the archive finally spawns in.

You aren't missing out massively on the settlement experience. Biggest tip I can give is never sent settlers on expeditions if it gives you the choice (they can die and reduce your population).
