Greetings, travelers. I have yet another question about lighting up rock hoppers: Which corvette parts count towards the animation limit shared with those? I have replaced the mag fields with basic landing gears and installed 3 pairs of thrusters, yet only one of four hoppers lights up. Any suggestions? Cheers
you 100% could, though most likely just with a couple mods to get rid of the part limit/size limit. The main limitation would be how smooth you would want to make the curves, which exponentially increases how many parts you need to use (which if you go crazy enough, can result in the game having some major instability issues)
Sorry, dont know myself which contribute to the limit, but the least i can do is mention that theres a mod that increases the limit on how many effects can be active on a corvette at a time which could solve your problem (though i know some have strong feelings towards using mods when building corvettes, but doesnt hurt to know it exists)
Good point, I think once tried that one and still have a copy of the GCBUILDABLESHIPGLOBALS.GLOBAL.EXML somewhere. Also, the file gives a rough idea of the part categories for separate fx limits. Could be due to wing parts with minor effects on them, maybe.
I only noticed the rockhoppers come back if i do a new build from scratch as i've done a recent rebuild of a ship i made but as soon as i use mag landing pads it starts over riding the rockhoppers.
There is a trick i learned recently from the corvette showcase channel that is you can delete the landing pad / mag landing at the same time as you finalize the corvette it'll delete the landing gear finalize the corvette and you can still land etc but if you edit the corvette again you have to do this trick again. this might not help with animations though.
I plan on doing the animation mod on PC for my next build once i finish it

For some reason, when I am placing down my 3rd medusa reactor, it isn't showing up in the tech section
because it competes with the cockpit; delete 2 of the reactors and apply edits, edit the corvette again, delete the cockpit first then put in all three reactors and then add the cockpit and you should get three medusa reactors in the tech slots

i also made this but idk if i should change something to it
Did some more testing with the rockhopper lighting, without mods, switching the active ships to reset the effects after each edit, and the results were indeed not reproducible. Newly assembled vettes could have 3 mags, 4 hoppers and a plethora of reactors and boosters with nicely active visuals. Breaking down parts of the main ship and reinstalling hoppers made some of those light up again, but the results were not consistent. This was also dependent on the lateral position on otherwise symmetric ship. So, it remains unclear what sections are and how the prioritization is handled by the game. Resorting to an exml in the mod folder that raises the effect limits indeed seems the only reasonable way to deal with this.

It already looks pretty cool! But maybe a bit more part variety might help? It looks like more than half of the pieces seen from above are either speedbird nacelles or aeron pillars. Nothing wrong with either but it does look a little repetitive. It doesn't look like you used any decor pieces at all yet, perhaps consider adding some greebles to make it look less repetitive?

It's really just aesthetics in the end. The only stats they have is to add slots and you can max out slots without any habs. If I really had to declare a "best" hab it would be no hab, since they take up tech slots without adding anything useful. That would be a pretty boring home among the stars though. 🙂
I think I might have made a new record, and I I don't really know how it happened. It was about 1300 lower before I repainted the ship. I was aiming for high visibility yellow, but maybe I accidently painted it high speed yellow.
I bet something got applied twice somehow, it will probably go back down if I restart 🙂
I'm a fan of glowing parts, you could partially expose some reactors and change some thrusters if you're into that

When making a corvette what stats do yall think are more important to keep high? Ive currently got

450 shield
2187 hyperdrive
337 movement
Ive still got two unused supercharge slots
manuverability otherwise they move like flying bricks
Damage is false and is handled by the weapon tech itself
It is fair to say it is unnecessary after a certain point, but turning and boost speed does go up even at this extreme level.
Maneuverability affects multiple things. Speed definitely seems to have a cap, but maneuverability typically has greater influence on turning speed

You do have to keep in mind that manouvrability has nothing at all to do with boost or pulse speed in the first place. It's just that speed is increased by mostly the same upgrades
Because anything higher and turning glitches out

I wish we could see all the stats of the starship
To be fair at a certain point (not even in the thousands) ive noticed combat is super easy
It's not an unreasonable guess to make, but you can easily test this. Place down a polo figurine (manoeuvrability) somewhere without adjacency. Check with and without him equipped. You'll get the same boost speed., Then do the exact same experiment with the artemis figurine which only has the "boost" stat. The reason it's so easy to relate boost speed to manoeuvrability is because so many proper upgrades always buff both at the same time:

Hyperdrive fuel efficiency is equally important as range, imo
Arguably more important once you upgrade enough, since you can usually get anywhere you want with a single jump once your range is nearing 3k
Though at least for efficiency it's very easy to test it. Just check how much fuel you have before and after a jump. I just checked it myself, turns out One jump takes 2% for me
Seriously, i just started a new corvette put my land gear/hab/cockpit down and the corvette lifted off and left the station 😅
this is by far the best hidden gun placement ive ever done
it's a known bug even with multiplayer off if you have more than one corvette it still happens ; you may want to stick to starships until it's fixed

Well, check your weapon dps first
infra is 7.5k 5k shielded phase is 5k and positron is 2k 900 shielded
So phase beam applies for either each beam fired or each 2 beams fired

You can have up to three guns boosting a weapon
For things like the starship trails and bobbleheads I'm less certain, but you might be able to get more maneuverability boost out of a second Medusa reactor
The chromatic warp drives do give adjacency bonuses for hyperdeive range, but you only need the indium drive, and later the atlantid drive, for full access

Something of a not quite intended mechanic that allows for more creativity
A hab or walkway and a rockhopper fan can be used to move one or the other a half of a grid space
Theres also a way to use the ventilation duct or whatever its called to offset a hab/walkway diagonally relative to the grid

its a blessing and a curse if mobility gets too high it nolonger flighs
They are obviously cheating. There is no legit way to supercharge everything
But if you are genuinely wanting to mimic it, the easy way is through save edits. You can pretty much set your base stats to be whatever you want
honestly dont mind cheating in a mostly single player pve game, but yeah should prob mention that

I felt like I had to keep placing stuff under the shell so my character wouldn't fall into holes when I walk on it

Of note, I made the entrance its own little lower floor at the bottom, there's reactors hidden by landing gear, and I also fit further reactors to the rear of the ship hidden inside thrusters normally

I think the first one looks sharper and more intimidating, the refit looks softer?
As far as corvette design and you're not on PC where we can mod and use external programs my recommendation design wise is this.
Decide how many habitats you want to use on your corvette; You can use one Habitat walkway if you don't care about using all the corvette modules; 2 habitats lengthwise with an extra stacked on top and and Habitat walkway can fit all 10 storage modules and things like the mission radar and in ship refiner.
I currently have a corvette with 5 full habitat's and uses 3 habitat walkways intermixed and that lets me have all storage modules, in ship refiner, Mission radar, Nutrient processor and even some room left over to put seats for windows or planters if i want; to me this is the sweet spot especially if you're not going for something crazy or a modded build etc.
You pretty much want to just make a basic corvette and play with it and try different things; don't worry making it look a cool initially or copying someone else's just get the basic one done and build upon that.

Yes, you can't place them like that as they'd count as intersecting

The tools you need are basically the thermal cap (iirc), a hab or walkway, and a rockhopper fan thing
A lot of decorations work, but the vent cap or whatever its called can be bought for cheap in the basic parts shop
Window is one of the hardest part to utilize for me
I dont like free placing things anyway

The snaps arent broken, just annoying

You can ignore snap restrictions if you try hard enough and use enough glitches, there are guides on a 180 degree glitch that would fix your specific issue in the pins

You'll probably understand if you just do it. But understanding really isn't a requirement, just perform the same steps as they do in the tutorial. Whether you understand why it work or not has no impact on whether it works or not.

Scaffolding is what I call it when you place a part in order to place the part you want in a specific place

We're building spaceships so I can't say it isn't rocket science, but it really isn't that complicated. Just do the tutorial even if it doesn't seem like it will fix your issue.
There also might be a few specifics in the tutorial that are hard to understand
Took me at least two watches before I understood how to use rockhopper propellers for offsetting, lol
Performing it is a great way to understand things though
The thing i didnt understand at first was the importance of being on a specific side
On one side the propellers snap normally, on the other, they snap in half grid spaces
IT IS ROCKET SCIENCE

Place another hab or a hull link piece on the back of the hab so its clipping into the hull link already on your ship
Assuming we are on the same page here, it should be offset by half a grid space down and to the side
You placed the hab attaching it underneath the ducting, right?

Placing something behind the hab should link it to the ship again while also letting you have a spot you can place a curved piece where you want it

The other part uses the rockhopper propeller to offset forwards and backwards by half a grid space

You might be able to get a pink if you used the blender app, but those color options never really seem to match what I'd expect them to look like anyways.

Basically place one of the decor pieces from the anomaly on your corvette and paint it, then copy that color to a part of the ship and then select apply color to whole corvette from that piece

If you're looking for pink, you can get something like this color by painting a non-corvette items while in corvette mode and applying it to the entire corvette this way:
You can apply optional weathering to make it more pale too
The only way you can do Pink on a Corvette is with "the Black hole in the wall sign" you get from the quicksilver vendor at the anomaly and doing the color glitch
No way, almost half the decor items in the interior build list have color, you don't need anything specific. All the chairs, tables, flags, many of the boxes, lamps and plants too
That's the color transfer glitch explained by someone who's able to provide pictures
The quicksilver shop signs use freighter colors

Also put corvette engines next to pulse engine modules

No
The number and type of parts might matter but even if they do the tech adjacency matters far more
Generally it seems like more parts = lower maneuverability, but tech more than makes up for it

If you have three engines and at least one Medusa reactor, you should be pretty good for maneuverability

What Lambo and Aurix said are the most important bits, but you can push it even higher with a polo figurine surrounded by an artemis and tentacle figurine and two ship trails. And if you can get access to it, adding a photonix core from a starborn runner also helps

Sort of new to corvette building. How do I find new modules that are different than the ones you buy?
Find a planet with salvageable scrap, it's a resource you'll see when scanning the planet from space. The salvage containers on those planets will have Corvette parts, and any part, not just the ones you can buy
You can also use parts obtained from the containers to trade for other parts

How do I build a good covertee
For me it depends on what kind of ship I’m going for (i.e mining ship, offensive, etc) then I’ll look into styles of those kinds of ships or just try and make my own from scratch with no reference
For example my main mining barge style ships are very bulky or boxy looking, whereas my main corvette for combat is more sleek, pointed etc
I’d probably have to see a closer angle but the design looks good
If you have the Aeron ship parts from the redux expedition you can make some neat sleek ship builds
Lemme try and find one of my ships I use
I would say this style, it does look good but maybe cut the length a bit and add more decorative pieces on the hull such as winglets, aerofoil and such

Got my tiny corvette. Sold a few parts i dident whant. Gonna use those credits for fuel and landing cost. So in a way i can look for corvete parts forever lol
Find a nice system that dissonant and has a salvage scrap planet
You can use your Corvette to quickly "dig up" pieces
And you won't have to travel very far
Just loot the whole planet, warp to another system then warp back and repeat the process

They are strong enough to damage the pieces in the ground

That said, there's really no reason you have to get to a purple system to salvage. Salvage is available in all color systems
I was using it as an example of quick progress
But if it's a normal starting game then it won't be like that
Yes, if you saw a ship using lasers to mine, you were looking at the phase beams. That is the only weapon that cannot be used to salvage though. It has no AoE at all. All other ship weapons can dig up salvage at least to some extent, though I'd say that the rocket launcher is also highly impractical if the world you're salvaging has any trees. It interacts weirdly with flora.

I got my kid a gaming PC for Christmas. I’m thinking about picking up a copy of the game just to build Corvettes on it. (Currently play on PS5.) Wanted to know what I’d be getting into first. What’s the process for building something crazy like a star destroyer? Do you need to use wire glitch techniques and stuff like that? Or are there programs that can automate that?
The system isn't really meant to be used for large ships like star destroyers. You're going to need to mod the game to build something like that.
I think you might barely be able to make something approximately the size of the millenium falcon without modding, and even that is a little uncertain. You'd either be really pushing the limits or scaling it down a bit.
Thanks. Was just using that as an example. I don’t mean the size so much as being able to design a ship outside of the game using AI. Like if I wanted a ship that looks like a flying squirrel.
Would I have to build it myself in game after designing it. Or is there a way to build it outside of the game. I hate the in game building tool with a passion 😂

What mode do you play in?
@waxen marsh there's little tricks you can do to make items snap anywhere. If you learn them you'll be able to build the ship you want. You have a good base design for it, now you just need to be more creative with the pieces. Play around with build heights, look at all the pieces you have available, and use the picture for references

My Corvette is modeled after the federation Corvette from elite dangerous but with my own twists one it
I watched videos on how to build the millennium falcon and that gave me the idea for the back end of my ship
A video of a ship build called "dream thief" helped me get my angles
A Corvette that I got from the nomansapp gave me the idea for an open hab so I scanned YouTube for tips on how to place base items on your Corvette
I pulled from so many different resources to learn how to build
And after about 55+hrs this is the results
It's not even fully built yet
THATS WHY IT LOOKS SO FMAIALR

I use creative mode to build my Corvette
Everything else I switch back to my normal mode

Can you build a corvette in creative mode and use it in normal mode?

No, but you can toggle on free build mode in a normal mode savegame to effectively build it as if you were in creative.
