Have you looked up offset building? A lot of it involves placing a walkway, attaching a cowling to the walkway, then you can move the wayway to attach it to the cowling in a different spot, each time it moves half a block (so my corvette for example starts with a hab block on a landing pad, then I put a second hab block up .5 blocks from it, delete the original, and put my first hab block down .5 units so my landing gear only takes up .5 blocks instead of 1).

Offsetting with rotation is basically trying to force as many snap points into a small spot as possible. And since you can place backwards snap points on top of forward snap points you can create your own template to easily rotate and snap your parts wherever you want
Just finished what I consider the mk 3 of my expeditionary / Explorer ship. Dual reactor, even more powerful engines and more nimble then previous builds.
This one. Before I even started building I set up a hab template that gave 24 forward and 24 backward snap points all within a 4x2 hab space.
That makes mini Corvettes that are packed full of a lot of tech super easy to build
Final design only has one half hab though....

This thing contains five phase beams, three medusa, three zenith a kniostream booster and two dynamos. There are zero snap points within the body. All of them have been filled.
I wanted to put two Titan boosters on it but I wouldn't be able to use the hab that's on it....
Also don't look in my Habs on some of these builds..... It's like wiring on the back of the PC

Ngl, I think this is the best way to design nice looking ships that remain functional. It still can be tough to do, but its how I plan to design my corvettes in the future

Here's an example of how my tech inventory is optimized towards manoeuvrability. Everything that I circled with red are things that impact ship agility in some way. I marked the supercharged slots with stars for extra emphasis. Those are really important too.

I wouldn't use creative mode myself, but the only person you can cheat in this sort of game is yourself. So if you don't feel like you've cheated yourself out of a good time, it isn't cheating.

Save space interactions for the hovercraft (since it's in a pretty awkward space, we've got the pod-cycle, the car, and the big rig, the hovercraft could be used as a small vehicle that is even more maneuverable than a standard ship, but it would be limited to a range around the corvette, plus it would be pretty slow compared to a ship, but it would be a great extended asteroid mining platform), and the mech (because it's a mech, we need space interactions for it, lemme titanfall deploy/gundam reentry drop, or just fight in space, it could also be another asteroid mining platform)

You can tell which objects share adjacency by the border that shows up when you place them next to eachother. No border = no adjacency

40m units isn't all that much. You can get about 10 mil per scanned rock, plant or animal if you eat the right food and have an upgraded multitool

Though I suppose technically they kind of have slots inside them too. For example a good x-class module might have 3 stat slots with high stats like the first screenshot, or it could have fewer stat slots with lower numbers like the second one
ngl, I wish corvettes had player/ai controlled turrets
because they feel like the bridge to the gap (in terms of player controlled ships) between regular ships and freighters
AI turrets for my cruisers would certainly make them more practical
I think corvettes are far too small and agile for turrets to be necessary

well, i mean, it would give a bonus to corvettes, differentiating them in combat from a regular ship, since the only thing differentiating them would be their size, they have the same weapons available, even the smallest corvette is still huge when compared to a regular ship
My 250 maneuverability corvette laughs at your agile ships. Just very slowly.
Huge is a bit of an exaggeration. I think mine is about twice the length and the same width as a large hauler
Granted, a lot of the large hauler width goes into wings and stuff, while mine is more solid
(also, it would give a reason to place different weapons turrets in different spots tbh)
lemme clarify, that is massive in comparison to a fighter-class ship, which is one of the two classes of ship that I would place in the combat role (the other being the solar-class ships) ((this doesn't include the special ships, like the living/refurbished ships))
All of these ships are still tiny compared to freighters though. Calling corvettes a bridge between the gap between fighters and freighters is like calling wolves the gap between dogs and whales
I specifically specified player controlled ships, since we currently have no direct control over frigates, or what they can really do beyond sending them out on expeditions, we can't upgrade them, or do anything to them. Players do have some form of control over freighters, mainly in positioning, and if they are actually there, plus, freighters allow for the addition of a squadron. The Corvette feels like the middle ground with what we have, and it currently has nothing that makes it special in combat, it's just an above average sized ship, maybe turrets would be something to spice it up

I really don't see how it's unconventional. From the standpoint of gameplay, we only have three sizes of ships we can control, "Standard", "Corvette", and "Freighter".
Corvettes are part of the standard class in terms of both size and functionality though
But setting that aside, I think the more important consideration is that there is no content in the game where turrets would be needed. There are no challenges in space that can't easily be overcome by just pointing your nose at things and firing
X-class upgrades are mostly from killing pirates, but also from the scrap merchant on space stations

It's a sort of combat adventure. You explore, kill enemies and loot your way towards the end where you get a reward
you may get some corvette part or other starship upgrade by looting a derelict freighter, but it's all random
The best way to obtain something is probably the way you have the most fun doing. Derelict freighters are not time-efficient for any of their rewards, but maybe it's your favorite game mode and then time will pass before you know it 🙂

First time scanning for something in deep space? Start up your pulse drive, only way to keep the scanner active
I feel I should caution you that chasing x-class modules is not a great use of your time at your stage of the game. You've got so many things that need doing that will give you much more significant upgrades

what food are you eating with your upgrades to get 25mil
Take whatever number you get now and multiply it by about 600 to find what you'd get with the food

I have been adding base parts to my corvette -- but nothing has changed recently in corvette parts. I just went in to change color using corvette build mode and I can't save becuase it says all thing must be connected. Nothing was added or moved since I've successfully saved before as far as corvette parts -- nothing.
Nothing is highlighted red. How do I determine what the game thinks is not connected? Doesn't it highlight the "disconnected" part?
Get that framework scaffolding from hull connector section. Drop it all around your Corvette in a circle. And then fill in everything in the middle. Mesh it all throughout your corvette. You can delete it later.
Eventually one of scaffolding will come in contact with the decoration that's throwing up an error. Error will go away. That will at least tell you the exact area it's taking place and pin down what you need to delete

Often times just putting it in a circle around the outside of your Corvette does it. It's just got to get somewhat close enough to the decoration part.
And it's hit and miss whether or not it will delete something that it meshes through. So if you do have to start pushing it into areas that are decorated fully it may take some out.

It has to connect to the corvette to be deployed there - so you mean attach it to where it will attach all around the corvette? Not like a square enclosing the corvette but not touching it (seems not possible).
2 turrets on both sides 1 in the front altogether is 5 dps is above average but can survive in combat longer

The trick seems to be that corvettes are always considered different ships
Or once you change the corvette, its not the same
So you just copy it again from the expedition

And what i did for expeditions 19 and 20 was put as many corvette parts as I was able to before ending the expeditions
Which, obviously, didnt work as well as I'd hoped with the corvette from 20
I did the same, but the amount of parts I've gotten from salvageable scrap has dwarfed it.

When building my microvette, I had the same thought and decided to just offset everything else

This is how you easily get your bottom hab and ramp flat on the ground/floor
Yeah the way I do it is offset the habs left/right, so that the landing gear sits in the middle of the two habs
But I just can't build a design I like that's larger than 1 hab wide

How’d you make it s classs ? Mine doesn’t show a class
you go to the back of space stations wher eyou'd normally scrap or upgrade a normal ship. Corvettes have the same upgrade option (think it's like 85k nanites total to max). The supercharge slots are seeded when you create the corvette, so if you want to get something like a 4 square set you should google the trick (not complicated but somewhat time consuming, can take upwards of an hour building and resetting).

You only have so many modulesyou can use the rest are base modules you use in base building mode outside of the corvette builder; you can get base modules / decorations at the Anomaly terminal back where you can get starship and multitool upgrades etc

I believe a lot of the parts are from breach and another expedition which have the atlas stuff. Or if anyone can point me in the direction of where I can find people that trade and sell stuff that would be helpful!

If you're going to go that route just make it easier and when you get the parts turn on free crafting. You can use as many of the parts as you want but they won't leave your inventory

My corvette is at the 100 item cap and it feels slow AF in the atmosphere dispite having as many thrusters the game would count towards the stats/ performance. Do items/cosmetics weigh it down and minis are faster or is it a lag issue making larger ships feel slower

I've noticed that too sometimes I have fully upgraded X class tech buffs , ship color trail & those figurines to give it a boost & it's 3k but still feels sluggish it's also small like a gunship.

with just the parts and unupgraded they feel sluggish
add some tech modules. same ones from a regular starship will work
But I did make a mini C class and it felt faster that's why I thought weight or lag played a factor
some parts do lower maneuverability if you add them
ive noticed habs are one of those parts

The tech slots were full just from corvette parts. Unfortunately I don't have a screen shot because the game deleted that corvette on me when I made a new one it disappeared. I can't find it anywhere
I used 3 Medusa reactors and made sure to make everything adjacent to maximize stats
It was on my creative save and not my main save luckily

if you learn how to do offsets, it helps massively with making corvettes less boxy
I can off set stuff to make snap points where there wouldn't normally be most of the time my issue is figuring out how to make something that is dependent on glitches. I swear all of these guys making guides are engineers

I managed to put up numbered decals/stickers to keep track of which of my cargo racks is which.
It is very difficult to place decals in a corvette.

Hi! I'm running into an issue and want to know if anyone else is encountering it. When I'm putting up four arcadia heavy boosters, NMS keeps counting it as one engine in the tech slots and putting in my two arcadia sublight thrusters in the other two.
This has happened three times in a row. I'm well aware of build order and make it a point of putting in the four heavy boosters well before I add the sublight thrusters. So, is this happening to anyone else or am I just unlucky?

Said it before. Reddit has a strong community of people who just hate Corvettes in general. And they have long had a large group of people who can't stand glitch building, blender for Base building or any other tools then the basic in-game mechanics
I like how they hate on modded stuff like this isn't a sandbox game where you can play however you want 🙏 (tho maybe you shouldn't take modded corvettes to the anomaly because it does cause major performance issues)

Glitch building is an art form in my eyes, and modding unlocks so many more creative possibilities just not possible in the base game

One of the better examples was derelict freighters. In quite a few places there are decorations and set pieces that can only be placed in that position through glitch building. Such as some of the ceiling items.

Needless to say, Reddit is a place where people flock to for confirmation that their beliefs and opinions are correct. Depending on the mods, dissenters get downvoted into oblivion or removed. That's why I stay on discord. Mods are (usually) more fair and opinions are more widely accepted. I like my large ships and people here who might not will still offer some compliments.
I rethinked my dropship as well. I'm pretty satisfied with the airgap, way easier to use it this way.

Yeah but it can be extremely glitchy depending on where you place it. Cause collision issues while you're flying around. So it may take some placement, test flying and replacement till you get it right

what should I name my corvette, it's one big powerhouse corvette that's focused on the infra-knife (sadly can't remove the crappy photon cannon)
Blasting the surface salvage planets with your ship. I'm sure there's guides on doing it all over the place. The idea is that you never even have to leave your ship to loot the containers so you can get a few parts per minute doing it
Get basic Corvette and hover low over a moon with salvaged scrap. Moons are best due to tight geography making loot points spawn close together.
Mark a salvaged scrap icons with visor, fly to it and hit it with photons. They have area effect damage and will collect all the scrap easy.
Then mark another scrap spot in your visor. Fly to it. Loot it. Repeat till you got all the parts you need. Sell ones you dont for extra units.

Anyways, here's my latest... The Breath of Melody. I focused on using arcadia corvette parts. I also threw in some other stuff I thought matched the theme or fit the shape of the arcadia parts .
Man, those four heavy boosters were a pain to line up wih one another. They were either too high, too low, too far forward, etc... That part of the build was definitely an exercise in patience and perseverance.

I would be surprised if wire glitching for Corvettes came back in place. It's usage on Corvettes was extremely unstable.

hi guys, new player here, is there a corvette station with good lighting

you just made it first, color it, go outside and check via Photo Mode
if it's not to your liking, just adjust it again xD
White light station with bright sunlight flooding the station build area. Giving you full 360 lighting around your ship
I'd suggest putting a base marker in this system or keeping the station on your favorites list. Brightly lit white light stations are extremely rare.
Since you can put geobays on corvettes with mods or glitches what happens if you take them to the anomaly or a space station and try to summon the exocraft
Any random number of things can happen. You could get thrown out of the anomaly, it could crash your game, it could work out just fine. It could work fine for you but lag out everybody around you.
Stuff like that takes testing sometimes. Finding a couple people to join you in multiplayer to see how stable it is for those around you
Even better if you can find PS4 or Xbox One players. Older gen systems that struggle to load modded Corvettes more often

Speaking of modded corvettes, with things like the nms base builder mod and goatfungus save editor can I just like save the appearance of a Corvette somewhere? Id use this in the event the game deletes one of my corvettes again so I can just restore it
That's the default Corvette so it looks like the game reset the appearance. This has happened to me before after crashes and afaik you have to rebuild it. I'm gonna try and find a way to save corvettes to restore them in this event tho

If anything it's likely just part seed swapping or something along those lines. It's hit legacy ships for years.
You log on and suddenly your ship is a different color, has different pieces or maybe even be a different ship type altogether. Because the seed re-rolled on it

My freighter base's colors reset a while ago and I haven't bothered to fix it

so what I really want to know is whether I'll lose my corvette if I update to 6.17
if I lose my corvette upgrading to 6.17, can I downgrade to get it back?

easy to use
export ship > upgrade > import back if something goes wrong.
Cargo is not export/import-able, only tech slots tho
I assume based on context that corvette design is export/importable
if upgrading and then loading the save game messes up the ship, won't importing and then loading the save game messs up the ship?

6.17 is really new though
Say hello to the RB-10, otherwise called the "HTT" (Heavy Tactical Transport). Designed to carry up to at least 10 Troops, it's complete with a medical bay, cargo hold, crew quarters, and various necessities. This transport can double as a mobile planetary base of operations.

Typically no. Because what's happening is the system is basically losing the ship that's already in place. What's already been generated.
When you import the backup into the file you're overwriting it's mistake with the original ship.
will restoring the save file work?
May be, but they it will upgrade the save file to the current version again, so I'd rather bet on export/import.

I agree then, but still not sure I can trust the editor. the save file is 2k smaller after using it to add one item to a cargo slot

Never really smart to use more than one save editor. You can but eventually you start having too many fingers digging around in your files and it makes it easier to screw something up yourself

well I haven't used any yet. I want to do the ship export without saving the edited save just to have more chances for recovery
@random zinc for simplicity you could just periodically copy the whole save folder, and if something bad happens only then dig out the code for a ship you messed up
Trading for modules->Can one offer to trade singular parts? Not the whole stacks.
@trail forge couldnt you add 1 part, store the remainder of the stack elsewhere, then pick up the 1 part?
I think i misunderstood tho
when selecting what to offer. lets say ive got 3 of a specifiec shield generator, it adds the whole stack without an option to offer "one of these for that bit"
i guess doing it via inventory management might be possible, will try it, guess parts would be safe on my freighter.
just seems odd that one cant split stacks when trading, i think all other shop interfaces have the option to set how many of whatever.

Hey folks, I'm trying to replicate a corvette design from a guide and it has parts I'm not able to find in the parts trader, and also has parts I found via savaging. However some of those parts I found via salvaging aren't in my list of parts I can even attach to the corvette in the ship builder. Any one able to help?

There were some Albatross parts, that I know for sure. I cant find those in the shop and I own some but cant use them. Im currently at work so I can't pull up the list from my pc right now. 😅
How do I do that? And would it effect my vanilla normal game save in any way? I've had this save since launch (I've been away from the game for years and just recently got back into it)
In options, there is a difficulty tab, where you can change various settings in your game. You can change them at any time, to make things easier or more difficult for yourself
If you want a proper minivette you need to learn offsetting and rotational build methods. Being able to place reactors, weapons and other parts in the same space. Meshing together.
This one in the pic has 3 Medusa, 6 phase beams, 2 zenith reactors, and 3 boosters. One of the boosters is even facing forward because that's just where I could fit it. But it still works visually.

Use these two methods as well. Combined with offsetting like you're already doing you can double the number of snap points in a single spot. Offsetting those snap points even more multiplies your connection points

You don't need to build your whole Corvette at a 90° angle. But just putting a Hab in place temporarily to attach stuff to it is effective

Yeah I've seen people do that with their own starships quite a few times. The modding chat probably knows of the good app for that
Why 6 phase beams 😭 you only need 3
While it's true that every weapon caps out on stat bonuses at 3 the phase beams multiply their damage output up to 6.
So on top of the stats it gives you the damage multiplier goes even higher
No, just the phase beam
Any projectile thrower gets split on each turret, so the DPS is more or less the same
While Phase Beam just fires the whole 6 turrets at the same time

Here’s an unpopular opinion- i think fighter style doesn’t work well on vettes unless it’s a really smol boi
I would agree. A corvette imo would be a medium ship type with more firepower but less maneuverability
