To answer the question chain, Base damage on Staves is literally just dependent on how/where S Class was acquired. 483.3 for nat S regulated, 416.7 for nat S outlaw, 433.3 for anything upgraded to S
With that knowledge you have the best chance to get the highest damage staff by getting a natural S in a regulated system.

Thats where I've been going wrong with atlas tools then. I thought they took a stat dive across the board, but as atlas tools are mainly mining focused mts, I was mainly looking at that. So its probably only Royals and Sentinel weapons that don't take a hit in damage stats when upgraded to s class then.
also, just should point out this info applies to the real world too. were currently in the solar system, a group of planets, dwarf planets and other objects orbiting the sun, and the sun is one of many stars making its way around the milky way galaxy. so youre always in the galaxy, the star systems are just what make up the galaxy.
when it says youre traveling to a new galaxy, youre essentially traveling to a new enormous cluster of star systems thats very far away, in which they all typically orbit a black hole at the galaxy’s center

yes, expedition multitools can copy sc of the tool you use in the save you started from when starting from an existing save

you are correct. Prior to using the mod, my neutron cannon had 75k potential but it was leaving each sentinel with a pixel of hp on 1 hit. Was not very satisfying so I installed a mod to ignore the limiter

Yeah the main weapon i use says like 88k and almost two shots the giant walkers meanwhile ive seen people with higher displayed dps not even one shot the tiny sentinels, little unfortunate its not accurate but fun to play with the spaghetti code modding system

My 2 new Multi-Tools i got through my recent expeditions, finally i am glad i got them. They look so dope.
Now its all about min maxing the setups. So the Atlantis Gun i use for my gun and weapon setup.
The Staff i use for Mining / Scanning and anything else. (Also bonus, i have the javelin on that staff as well installed, just for the lols and when i need to snipe from afar
Probably better off other way around, as Atlas tools generally have higher mining bonuses and Staffs generally better damage bonuses
I know but i like it this way more asthetical wise and i value that more than perfectly min maxing (Idk if i have ever seen a staff shoot rapid fire projectiles lol) 🙂

How can I get the highest yield on a mining MT? This is what I’m currently using. The bonuses are hard to understand.
I mostly use it for runaway mold. Want to get as much out of each ball as possible.

can you re-roll an atlantid multool cabinet to get a better class? or do you simply have to keep farming monoliths?
Class and stats are tied to cabinet i think. So u need to look for diffrent cabinet for diffrent class.
Class and stats are pre determined, reloading on a different planet in the system will cause the model to change however

The higher the class, the more slots you can unlock. Same with ships and freighter
S class multitools go to 10x6 i think

You can always upgrade your b to a then s at space station. You need nanites to upgrade. To answer your question you can get from space stations, harmonic camps, sentinel pillars, alien monoliths, and planet based shop places, can't think what name is
Oh interesting, every time I go for a sentinel pillar its always c class. Never seen that from a monolith tho. And I'll have to go to more of the autophage camps

Thanks. I had boltcaster installed for a secondary weapon but took it off. I left the mods so I wouldn’t have to look for them if I ever decided to use them.
I’ve seen people say they prefer running derelict freighters for tainted metal, but I don’t really enjoy it. I also don’t know how much you make per hour doing that. I didn’t do it enough to be efficient.
I enjoy the base building part of runaway mold. I just built two new bases on large deposits and I’m trying to figure out the short range transporter glitch to link them. I’m having trouble getting the glitch to work but it’s a fun challenge.
Using the normal teleporter back and forth, I’m able to keep 35 refiners full for 210k nanites per hour. If I can get the glitch to work, I think I could add 15 or so refiners for 300k per hour.
That said, I won’t sit and farm nanites for hours on end. It’s just fun to see how efficient I can make it when I do need them.
What’s your preferred method and how much do you make?
I have a farm on a planet with frequent radioactive storms (radioactive storms double the yield)
I can get enough mould to load my refiners in couple of minutes and thrn leave for 20min to come back and collect over 100k nanites
I think i said it somewhere else, mould from curious deposit is definitely one of the best methods if you optimise a bit the way you farm and use it
Even just teleporting to a space station and back with only couple of refiners can give good results
However if they thought about using runaway mould you find randomly or refine from slime then yeah, mould might seem kinda bad 😅
Or if you play on survival/permadeath, mould is horrible with small stacks and i would never use it with them. Suspicious packets all the way in this case

nvm had no idea you could make that much on mold. I just hop from pirate station to pirate station buying suspicious packets, maybe 50k an hour maybe 100k if i was laser focused
I will have to find a tutorial on this after I get around to building a gold farm, unless you have a better idea for units too lol
I got the short range teleporter glitch to work. It took way longer than I expected or will admit, but it was fun to figure out. I’ll calculate the hourly return and post a video when I get time.
As far as credits go, my method isn’t easily available anymore. I’m on PS5 and there was a bug for a while where I couldn’t see other people’s bases. I thought it was permanent at the time.
This coincided with my search for exotic ships. Because I wasn’t able to see other people’s bases, I dropped base computers on top of a dozen crashed exotics. If I pick up all the ships, I make a hair under 120 million credits in under 30 minutes. They respawn once a day.
I primarily use that for the free starship cargo expansion slots. I believe it’s two per ship. Then as a result have more units than I can spend.

I think I knew about the radioactive bonus and forgot. I read a post where someone mentioned using the short range teleporter glitch to respawn mold so went about figuring it out. Learned a bit about base building in the process.
I haven’t built out additional refiners yet, but I plan to add some today and figure out my new hourly return. I get about 29k of runaway mold every time I clear it. Jump in the short range teleporter and it respawns in about two seconds.
My goal is to farm it fast enough to keep 50 refiners full, which would work out to 300k nanites per hour. I think my bottleneck now will be the time it takes to load 50 refiners.
You likely won’t need more than a few hours on a setup like that. What all are you spending nanites on? 300k should go a long, long way.
I mostly spend nanites upgrading sentinel ships. I don’t need anywhere near what I can farm. I just built it for the challenge and to find my limit.

Shot a video with a flyby to show how I built the base. I’m doing 300k per hour pretty comfortably with 50 refiners. I think I could push it up to 60.

The teleporter glitch is optional. It just makes it more efficient. My first attempt was two bases using a regular teleporter to go back and forth. That’s more than enough nanites. The teleporter glitch was just for fun.
You would just go back and forth between there and a station or something? does savepoints matter or do those things just always respawen
I had two bases with runaway mold deposits. I had regular transporters at both. I would go back and forth between the bases. The balls respawn as long as you travel at least 700 units away.
With that method, it takes about 15 seconds to teleport. This way is basically instant.

This has the highest potential damage. With perfect mods, it tops out at about 198k. I don’t have perfect mods.
This has the highest damage of any staff that I know of. It tops out at about 196k. Slightly less damage but more style points.

It’s a sentinel rifle. Damage from one gun to another will vary greatly depending on base damage and SC layout. This one has a perfect layout and almost perfect base damage at 49.97. Perfect is 50.

As far as I can tell, there is no stat on upgrades that increase yield. The nearest thing is probably mining speed, as faster mining means more resources mined in a time period. I'm not 100% sure on the yield though.
Mining Stats do change on atlantid tools, the same way damage stats does they also vary when upgrading. In my limited observations upgraded atlantid mts may have better mining stats than the natural s class version of the same mt. Of course it may also be worse. Unlike damage, they dont seem to take a hit to stats on mining due to being upgraded or being found in outlaw systems.
SC slots I cant answer, I mainly use an L shaped one, that I found myself.

This Mining Upgrade is considered to be 1 of the most perfect mining upgrades, like I said, only stat that increases mining yield in a round about way is mining speed.

any class honestly, i have nanites. for color im thinking either brown+green for an oxidized copper feel, or gray+red-brown for rusted metal.
you unlock them during a quest called They Who Returned, but to start it you to complete what i call the "main story" aka the Artemis questline.

Class spawn rates are same as ships, 5% outlaw, 2% 3 star systems etc
Non sentinel, you are best looking in 3 star as the non sentinels take a damage stat hit in outlaw systems
Sentinel weapons are from Harmonic camps on dissonant planets
Just economy level, i.e. 1 star, 2 star, 3 star and Outlaw, Economy type doesnt matter
But even so, will be a search, I dont think Ive ever found a natural S class sentinel weapon, not one that someone else hasnt found 1st. Sentinel Weapons dont seem to take a damage reduction when upgraded from a lesser class level.

So yes, Id look at Harmonic Camps in outlaw system with dissonant planets
Max damage bonus on a regular rifle is 20, minimum on a sentinel weapon is 25 (at class S) so any sentinel weapon Class B or above is likely to be an upgrade to what you have now looking at the damage bonus's
For mining you are probably better off with an experimental or Pistol than a rifle

Nope
Basically a single multi tool box can have up to 7 different designs in that single multitool box. Each planet (up to 6) and station can change the design in the box. Basically to check the designs you have to land each planet/moon/station one by one, land get out of ship to make a save, reload save, then travel to multi tool box and it may be a different design each time

Regular MT boxes, also can only go up and down one class, so if you see a C class of the design, you probably wont see an S class

Each box is locked yes, but different boxes will have different classes, but they can only go up n down 1 class. So if you see C class, then highest you will find is probably A class

And to get any staff mt you need to complete echoes quest...they who returned...only then you can staff mt...
But getting S class is not easy as different parts + different points on planets can lead to very high variable results

Ok I'll do what's necessary, sorry for the response time English is not my language. There will be other staffs than the one I showed you in this base, you are free to take the one you want. Be careful it may seem quite indigestible to understand. 😅
Here is how to proceed:
I have positioned blocks all around the terminal on which are placed decorative objects, you must position yourself very precisely on the chosen block so that the decorative object is between your feet, I advise you to switch to third person view to do this. Once well positioned, access the terminal from this location. Now that you are in the staff assembly menu, install the different parts of the staff and once that is done, assemble everything, now simply return to the previous menu, then assemble again without touching anything, and again return to the previous menu. Now put one of the three parts of the staff back in your inventory and reinstall it immediately, assemble the staff one last time and if everything went well, the desired "secondary" staff appears. Take into account that there is a margin of error on the position to respect, if you do not find the staff it is surely for this reason, then readjust your position slightly and start again.
The color of the block corresponds to the type of head of the staff and the decorative object corresponds to the shape of the supercharged slots, here is the detail:
Triple hanging lamp > B or A class SC-P.
Circles hanging lamp > B or A class SC-Square.
Vintage tap > B or A class SC-T.
Table lamp > Interesting S class.
Table lamp + yellow block > S class SC-L.
Purple bloc > Runic focus.
Red bloc > radiant heart.
Green bloc > reclaimed head.
Coordinates: Galaxy Euclid

Well I admit that I don't know any more than you 😆 , but in case you want to go to this base I have set up a communication station, it will take you directly to the right place.
Once I tried to guide myself only with the coordinates it was horrible.
You can view coordinates on foot, in exocraft or in 1st person view in ship.
1st number is North to South and 2nd number is East to West

You don't lose much, it's an S class coming from a pirate system so it's limited to 416.7 damage potential compared to 483.3 in a classic system

You can buy S class modules primarily from space stations, stations will have varying modules in different classes so you have to travel to a few to find the specific module in the class you want.
For X class modules you can open suspicious packages or buy them directly from a module vendor onboard an outlaw station.
If the question is about there being modules that are both S and X, There is no such thing, the image is using them to detail that the “highest” module stats can be from X or S.

not sure if it matters what weapon you're modding, but how do people get their multitools to 100k + damage?
The damage potential stat for a Mt is based on your strongest weapon installed, the stats you are seeing in that high range is from the neutron cannon, the damage potential stat for neutron cannon is broken so it results in that high range.
All in all that damage potential stat is nothing to look at if you want to know how viable your weapon actually is or even how much actual damage it deals, once upgraded to the best of your abilities any weapon can outperform in the game’s combat.

That’s fine as long as you upgrade the weapon and find it to be useful in combat then it’s valuable, as stated the damage potential is not what you should look at when determining if a Multitool or weapon is any good in combat.

There are no "best". Even if someone were to give you location for a multitool with a perfect stats it still needs upgrade modules and average multitool with good modules will easily outperform perfect multitool with bad modules. Same goes for ships and I see you asked similar question in #nms-legacy-ships
Grab an Atlantid Multitool that looks cool and upgrade it (provided you progressed "They who returned mission" from echoes content, use !faq-echoes command in #bot-spam if you need help with that). Atlantids are very good at mining and if upgraded will evaporate anything you point them at
- any multitool can do any task, combat oriented multitool will still be able to mine and mining multitool can still destroy sentinels

Short answer yes. It's intended that you do it outside and copy it into the expedition, and I can confirm it works. Got one of my own

Assuming you've started from an existing save, you just go to the terminal in the anomaly and it should let you copy your active mt from your main save.
And you should be able to switch back to the main save from that terminal to go get it if needed

it was givin as the starting multitool for this current expedition i have also gotten one from a sentinel camp its exactly thye same.
I got a pirate freighter and i finaly was abel to destroy a sentinel capital ship, im so used to them disapearing when i try to fly near them with te right tool and a minotar its a breeze to take down the agressive planets. the rewards are unlimited(do not know if gravitino balls re spawn) but instead 0f one there from 3 to 10all bunched up and i got a synthetic animal for a pet.

wow you may be right i have been getting resonance spikes from echolocators and i did find one , you are correct i was wrong i got it at my first sentinel pillar early in the game i got lucky and landed near one without a map or killing all 5 waves of sentinels. it came from a pillar. i just got lucky' b i also have an exact one in reserve. i wish there was a way to give stuff away, but when i go to single mode i never see anyone cept for at the anomoly. thank you for clearing that up

The purple modules you see are sentinel weapon shards, they have their own 3 modules limit and buff only Boltcaster (you can install them regardless whether you have Boltcaster or not but without they won't do anything)

Depends on how you arrange the slots and your modules to a small extent, but otherwise you really just do insane damage to everything no matter what you use as long as you have like S class tech

I went to buy the sentinel 4 square rifle and accidentally bought the pistol without realizing. Will it eventually respawn in the cabinet?
If there was a pistol in the cabinet, you're at the wrong place. Whatever tool is in that cabinet will always be there
When I went to get mine, I had to do a restore reload, but I'm not sure whether the one that was in there to start was a pistol or rifle. Orange but had a really long thin nose, like a dang mosquito

And that's a whole lot of autophage encampments to maybe a couple of harmonic camps. Your RNG looks miserable while 20% of resonators spawn with an item that can locate a camp straight away
I would never count polyphonic core as a reliable wayto locate harmonic camps in any capacity if it even can as I never managed to do it
The reliable way is to just get echo locators
You can farm echo locators as the resonators respawn now and then

I don't think you understand how chance work. 20% will eventually land on the desired outcome, same with 0.1% or less. With enough tries you should eventually get the desired result no matter how small chance is. Problem is how much time it'll take. How long will you have to keep rerolling. I've seen people claim that they were farming S class freighters for many, sometimes 10+h, and that is on 3-5% spawn chance.

After each time you use polyphonic core you have to fly to the location, check what you got and scan again, fly there repeat.
Option that requires less relying on RNG is the echo locator

The way portals work is kinda weird when it comes to how weapon cabinets work. Usually if you warp into a system it autosets the pool available to the space stations pool. Going through a portal for some reason doesn't work the same way
In this picture did you already unlock the multitool cabinet? I assume you went to the coords I showed and it led to the harmonic camp with a cabinet but it's hard to tell with the picture because it's not showing me the coords you're at

i feel i should mention that before this, i did have to unlock another terminal on the same planet as i thouhght i was at the right camp, i got the multitool from that and it had the same name, but it did not have the 4 supercharged slots i was looking for

can you try to - mark that spot if you need to - then exit game in a different system, go offline if you're on steam, just steam top menu/go offline - then launch game again, and go back to the harmonic camp
Did you have to reload to take away the base? Does that mean you have to go back to the space station and reload again to show the rifle?

@cinder spindle Hey, earlier today I got the tool you're trying to get and another very similar one. They have almost identical stats, appearance, and even very similar supercharged slot placement. If you really can't get this one, you could try getting the other one instead: #nms-multitools message

went back to it AFTER going to another harmonic camp on the same planet using an echo locator. that camp had a lockdown protocol i had to complete, after doing that i went back to the original camp and it's still broken the same way

if i tried to locate a dissonance signal with the camp that isn't working, the ship would be visually there, but i couldn't interact with it and i could walk through it like it was a ghost

Ive had issue at that box also where it wouldnt unlock as the console was bugged out, only way I could get it to open was via a mod
I think the bases are maybe bugging it out

generally 2x2 SC is the best setup, most people would say neutron cannon

A 2x2 supercharged slot is when the sc slots are located in a 2 by 2 square. This gives the best bonus to the upgrades you have in the multitool
But you can't change the slot config on the Atlas staff
I'd say put the the cannon in this spot here, and all the upgrades in the SC slots

Different mt types have better bonuses in certain areas, so its better sometimes to specialise an mt in an area where it has strong bonuses. There is a chart in pins showing potential bonuses for each multitool type

I main neutron cannon bc of AOE, I'm on pc but I play NMS on a controller and it easier if my aiming boils down to "screw everything in this general direction"
My second choice would be boltcaster, I like how it works more then pulse spitter
I think i tried blaze javelin but its just too slow, feels like something you would use over longer distance but most on foot combat in NMS takes place on short to medium range
I don't have much to say about scatter blaster as I never used it much

~~Below is a guide on how to force a staff to show parts as holographic instead of standard pieces.
Note.
- This method only allows 1 or 2 parts of a staff to be holographic (save editor required for the full staff to be holo.
- The hologram parts can’t have a different colour or model.
- Be patient it can take 1-3 mins of repeating steps before the staff glitches, if the guide is followed correctly it will work.
- Video attached below shows a short portion of the glitch and its success, the original time for the glitch to work was around 2mins of repeating the same action, for a visual aid it displays what to look for when the staff has glitched and the method itself.
Prerequisites.
- The player will need to have access to an Autophage Synthesis Terminal in order to assemble a staff. Run

Step 1. Place one staff component in the terminal (this one part won't be holographic once glitched)

If you went to the location you should have found a sentinel pillar
There will be a terminal you can interact with and if you extract weapon technology you will be given an option to claim a multitool.
By saving and then reloading in the atmosphere of different planet or on the space station you can change how the multitool will look like (as shown on the picture, I also named the planets after colours)
