Just found this... Not sure if this means there is an S class somewhere on the planet, though...
So seems the colours differ on the same planet, but the class remains the same... This is the 3rd one I found now on the same planet - the other two were both red... Suppose I can give up and go hunt on another planet, then...

The Autophage terminals used for staff assembly have different rules
There the head used for assembly will influence the class and stats of the staff
Sorry for being unclear... I know have the staff assembly works... What I meant by comparison was that I can travel to a bunch of different locations on a single planet, and the Autophage terminals will give different class and color combinations, depending on which head you use... On the other hand, I have travelled to 3 different sentinel terminals on the same planet, and they all gave me a B class multi-tool, but, as the pictures shown, different styles of multi-tool... So what I'm unsure about is this : Will every single sentinel pillar on that planet give me a B Class, or was this just a random coincidence? Is it worth scanning for more pillars, in the hopes of finding a Royal S class, or will they all simply be B class, with different styles, as appears to be the trend here...

I do have a staff that does 168k damage, but it would be nice to add a decent Royal MT to my collection... Of course, it has to be S class, so knowing how the class distribution works helps with searching... Again, thanks for taking the time to clear it up for me...
Not quite
The Damage Potential stat is not damage dealt, but more like a Damage Per Second meter
You can turn the damage numbers in general settings to see actual damage numbers
The only reason why it's possible to get such high numbers is because of cooldown / fire rate bonuses getting supercharged
That doesn't mean the shots actually deal so much damage
Ok... So it has 186k damage potential... I don't like it, though, and I'm still searching for a better looking one - so might as well look for a Royal on each planet I visit - so nice to know I can scan for more than one pillar per planet...

The only metric one should follow is: am I killing stuff at a tempo I like / feel comfortable with

Sure... With my previous multi-tool I struggled to do a 3rd wave of sentinels, now I go through the 5th waves with relative ease... Which is fine for me... Regardless of damage outputs, though - I now know how to search all the sentinel pillars on a planet...
I didn't really care much for atlantid MTs until I saw this BEAST posted on NMSCE

Yes, Outlaw has the best S Class odds, but for MTs (except for Royal, Sentinel, and Atlantid), they're guaranteed to roll low damage as natural S Class.
so this would be for Staffs as well? I notice it usually ends up at 433.3, but I did find to that rolled at 483, I can't recall what kind of systems they were. Is this more "common" in three star or non-outlaw systems?

For Staves, natural S in a regulated system = max 483.3, upgraded to S = 2nd worst 433.3, natural S in outlaw = 416.7
As I said, in Outlaw, all other MT types are trash at natural S
So Pistol, Rifle, Experimental, and Alien types, too
Yep, it's the balance HG settled on for MTs - starships are about the only thing that doesnt suffer as natural S Class in outlaw systems, likely because starships everywhere at natural S have random bonus rolls.

Doesnt apply period, those have seedlocked bonuses at S, whether natural or upgraded, wherever you obtain em.
It's why I would say though Staves and Sentinels share max Dmg, it's far easier to try and set up a minmaxed Sentinel weapon, because theres only 2 cosmetic choices and it doesnt matter where or at what class its obtained, itll either have max dmg or it wont,and after checking that you can manipulate the SC layout you get to some extent.
Oh that is a great find. Slap the Runic Lens and mining beam upgrades in that square and you will not need any of the proper weapons

Well that certainly would be my vote. There's nothing in NMS that feels quite as good carpet-bombing your enemies with cleansing plasma fire, IMHO

Launchers dont do the proper amount of damage to players outside your group, and when you set a player on fire, theyre automatically immune to any other damage you deal until they stop burning. XD

So the mining beam gotta be less than that

If you were willing to start fresh/start over from where you left off on ps4 (if still in possession of savedata), you could technically have a save edited in your behalf to then convert to ps5 data
That's the type of request I'm inclined to volunteer for, because it means doing something very few actually ever do.

This is what I use... But there are loads of different configurations... I've seen some guys take on sentinels with just a mining beam... A very, very, powerful mining beam... Play around and find what works for you...

Neutron canon boosts the number but potential dmg=/= actual dmg.

where is it? i did the stuff at the screen and it gave me a jetpack appearance thats all
It is in Eissentam galaxy... And you have to build it with the different staff parts you buy with void motes... The terminals will have an option for "Staff assembly", once you de-activate the multi-tool seal...
The staff head determines the kind of staff, the other two parts make no difference, so you can mix and match them as you please... But you will have to use the radiant head at that specific terminal if you want the S class with the 3 sc slots...
Sadly, we have some grid maintenance scheduled today, and my power is going out in about 10min, for a couple of hours... Could be anything from one to ten, who knows... But if you want some help, I'll be in game later today... It's 7:50am for me, so the day is just begining...

No, but you do have to load into session either on the same planet or SS/Freighter/Anomaly, depending on how one arrived insystem. So unless @tepid summit is able to provide that, chances are ~90% that it belongs to the Space Station pool, ~9% that it belongs to the displayed planet's address, and whatever's left over that it belongs to any other planet insystem's pool.
Oh shoot I always forget about that part, I always confuse it with the ship pool system 'XD
That time I actually went there via a base teleporter to that specific planet and yes it's the one with that monolith, so as long as the glyphs are the same for that planet it should be the same pool, right?

Yes, because for each planet (and "space" counts as the 0th planet), procgen rolls 2-4 standard MT seeds that have a "natural" Class they tend to spawn in from C-A. Each pool will also have a seed for 1 Royal, 1 Sentinel, and 1 Atlantid MT.
Based on how you phrased that, I think if you go back and look at some posts, the instructions regarding where one must save and reload make perfect sense. 🙂
Yeah I know about the pools I just assumed the pools depended on the location of the cabinet not the load-in location
I deduced that already, so I worded my answer to give you credit for understanding - very few people actually figure it out without talking to someone, because it's not a very intuitive concept, and it isn't that the various guides for it are poorly produced, it's simply a very tough subject to express in a simple to understand way.
(I didnt figure it out entirely on my own, either, so while "very few people" is an assumption, I'd still be willing to bet money on it. XD)

I can't say with certainty, but I haven't observed any correlations there, and wouldn't expect to, because the procgen consistently anchors the first part or colour selected to the stats, but none beyond that.

Friends and I played multiplayer.. one friend bought the multi-tool from a space station. Now, even after going to single player, going to another system (via portal), and quiting game then starting in single player. That muti-tool doesn't exist at the space station.. Is that normal?

Cause in rl if there is only 1 of a thing, and I take it, then there is nothing for you to take.
Thats how mp works, same with ships. You will have to wait for it to respawn however long that takes
Its why every YouTube video on multitool hunting, and ship hunting tells you to turn off mp before entering the system when getting mt or ships

Warping has nothing to do with it, and nor does time. It takes as long as it takes to encounter enough things that get saved as StoredInteractions to cycle the MT cabinet out of savedata. @tawdry siren

I wanted to have experimemtal mt to have scan specialized mt but then i learned thant scan can be maxed fast even with normal mt and it didint boost scan cooldown/ rise $ per scan. So i stayed with my rifle
I’m trying to max my fauna scan. I’m getting about $500,000 per scan and I think all my modifiers are around 10,000%. Does this seem about the upper limit?

They are actually super easy to get... You can farm a lot in a short time on dissonant planets... Especially if you find a sentinel tower first, and disable the sentinels... Easy pickings...

heyo, I gotcha. These coordinates are in the Oniijialdu galaxy, if you don't have a way of getting there I can help you out. In fact I think I set up a portal where this S spawn is. They way I got the damage that high was rolling X mods until I got three at the highest roll.
Assuming you have enough units, you can just teleport between pirate stations and clear out their stocks of suspicious weapon packages and open them all up to bank a good rolling supply
that's another way of banking up nannites too
if you want an L arrangement, I have coordinates for those as well
oh wait a minute, I didn't roll x mods on that weapon, rolled S mods as you can see above. Still, that's a good way to get a bunch of nannites if needed. Find some space stations that are selling neutron cannon S mods and teleport between them in hopes that their stock will refresh

This multitool has been shared on the internet for a while now, but the location in the web documentation is wrong, or has been changed since the post, its an S-Class Alien MT, 2x2 SC layout, my base is on the new location for a few months now already, its uploaded, it has a few comm balls from visitors on it, but im sharing the coordinates and details here anyway

but dont take the numbers for cash, they often say different things and the effects are not, specially when they start to get very high

i have another one that's a pretty obvious pistol that has the same scanning range
all multitool have base stats, that varry for X minimum value to Y maximum value, but after you installed 3 S upgrades on it, those basic values will mean absolutely nothing

also, the game scales up with your capacity of applying damage, so adding more upgrade for more damage will make ennemies stronger

i use a random class A rifle
for scanning
just get 3x S upgrades (for whatever system you want to use your multitool for) and your multitool will outperform any obstacle the game will send you
that's the first S i've found that i didn't get off a coord exchange

it happened to me with old camps from before running the autophage quest that the camp terminal would not provide those options, needed to abandon those pre autophage camps for new ones

Not as good as something like a staff or sentinel mt, Atlantid is best for mining.
Get some good S class modules for any weapon and you will be absolutely fine even if the tool isn’t good for damage
Even better if you get the absolute best X class for that weapon plus a good SC layout
Min/max properly and the fact it’s an atlantid won’t make any difference to PvE
Or just use the mining beam as a weapon 😉, I have been told it’s actually pretty good on the Atlantid multitool

@odd sorrel Yes, because the way it works is there is a different pool of MTs for each different place you load into the system - 1 per planet, 1 for space.
So if you mark that Monolith, for each planet, you land, save, reload, and then return to the Monolith. In a 6-planet system, ths same 7 Atlantids will spawn in total.
Do boxes instead of rows for everything, way better synergy
And you're kinda wasting the power of SC slots on the Visor and Scanner modules
Put some weapons in those slots, or if you care about scanning - scanner upgrades for bigger money rewards

Reload on different planet changed MT but not class or current SC
What changed was position of the last SC
We were basically Reloading on each planet with hopes one of them will give us SC where we want it to be

You’re best to include the lat/long coordinates to the exact cabinet/terminal, bases, com balls, save points are unreliable, it’s not always a given they will show for other platforms/players

We can't really see the base damage of MTs in the game, would need to use save editor for that
Won’t make much of a difference, upgraded S will be 433.3
But that aside, don't pay too much attention to the Damage Potential stat
You can play the game just fine with all kinds of weapons at lower potential
Hell you can melt stuff with mining beam alone
The only reason why Neutron Cannon shows such high damage potential is because how game calculates this stat
It's actually closer to a damage-per-second measure and it's influenced by fire rate and cooldown bonuses
Would be with that optimal layout plus best most stat in the S class modules and that tool i showed earlier gets that small extra by being a natural S from a regulated system
And supercharging those bonuses on NC modules rolls skews the calculation
You are not dealing that much of actual damage, that's just what the formula would say if it was possible to deal damage that fast
Find a weapon you like the mechanics of and upgrade and SC that to match your playstyle best
483.3 for nat S regulated, 416.7 for nat S outlaw, 433.3 for anything upgraded to S
For staves
Definitely not, any weapon can be enough, just people like to have big numbers displayed
Pretty much, I tend to favour looks over SC, stats and base class any day, and if applicable I will attempt to get better layouts and stats but regardless that look will always come first.
What I do for multitools each one of my permanent saves has 1 sentinel multitool with either a 2x2 SC slot or T shape plus good base damage so I can have a good weapon that I use to min/max, it’s my excuse to use the other 5 Mt slots for designs I like
For SC slots I tend to settle with 2 sets of Adjacent SC slots at best

No, it isnt. But seeds all generate all the things, its just a matter of where theyre used and what features can be generated for it.
Let me try again sorry - ill try to explain it instead of answer the question you ask
So, the cabinet can be "thought of" as what controls Class on a MT (ultimately). And whether or not it spawned as S? Is the factor that determines damage bonus, so for MTs, the bonus roll is what matters for base damage, not seed.
For Ships however, Core Maneuverability is a direct result of seed and cannot be modified by bonuses - Display Maneuverability is Core + Upgrades + Agility bonus...
But Core is intrinsic and inseparable from the seed
