@gentle axle Change the model, yes, there are up to 7 MT pools per system, where you load in from determines which pool the same cabinet pulls from. (And all other cabinets insystem)

Never really did, but it used to be something to slap onto minmax list back then 
The multitool I was looking at had a scanner range stat before

Not that I'm aware of, but we can buy even more Multitools (we'll never use) via Multitool Slot Extensions
That is extremely disappointing I just hate having 6 multi tools cluttering up my Box when at most I only need 3
Realistically 2 - one to core warp, one to actually use 
If you were on PC I'd suggest you to save-edit them out of your inventory, but I don't think XB/PS has any way to get rid of surplus MT's currently :l

@dense mulch 85/5/5/5 is applicable, but is no great shakes. (possibly different since Fractals) Unlike in regulated systems, natural S Class isnt locked to top tier dmg - but upgraded to S is still locked to low tier, so S Class outlaw MTs have historically been shite.

Also, have you found a pattern or some chance of coming across an alien tool in your hunts? Is there any percentage value (approximation) to look for?
For example, approximately 2 out of 50 will be alien.
The only observation of any help I've made is that rare models/features seem to cluster, so when I arrive insystem, I check space station cabinet, and if that has an Alien, Experimental, Starter Pistol, or Pistol/Rifle with Bone/Crystal accessory, I'll locate a nat A Class cabinet and load every pool to see if theres a potential Expmtl/Aluen S insystem
Any SS cabinet with a plain pistol/rifle I just move on

@dense mulch You need 6 Charts for the 1st Minor Settlement + every other possible marker, after that, every chart is another cabinet, and it rarely takes a half dozen in T3 systems to hit nat A

Possibly, Bone Horns are the low end of the rarity spectrum. If you find an Alien in SS, youre almost guaranteed an Experimental or two, plus a handful of assorted starter/bone/crystal options. If an Experimental in SS, theres a decent chance of Alien, if SS Starter Pistol, slim chance of Alien, etc..

I scouted a couple hundred systems for every single model, and the results were how I decided on this as my preferred method.
Clearing entire systems of MT models, now there's a slog only crazies like me would do more than once or twice, or a hundred and thrice lol.

Not surprised by my personal desire to start doing exactly that. As fate would have it, I was thrown in a region that has a peculiar cluster of a higher concentration 2 planet systems. I’m intrigued to hunt in this region, probably sweeping the floor with entire region scan.
I actually havent done a ton of MT scouting in 2-3 planet systems, for Alien/Experimental hunting theyre just inefficient use of time - because pools are procgenned by planet and not system seed, theres not really any chance that such systems will have higher density of rares due to less planets to spread em to
What you do is get the hang of hunting, then go look at weird systems, so you can include rare MT checks in your criteria for home base systems lol
I reserve full system hunts for places I care about, like the Hub

Base 400u away directly North or South of what you're trying to mark, with a Save Beacon 200u from BaseComp directly between Comp and Tech location - you can build a msg module or comm ball, but the base is already a direct pointer, lol
And at that distance, 0 chance that your base will foul the spawn of whatever for other players.

i did put a base next to that tool with some gravitino plants in it
also i hate that you cant delete comballs
i used to hate them anyways and had never used them. but recently i used one to mark a spot for something i was building not realising that i wouldnt be able to remove it and now every time i go to that base i get stupid text on my screen
@pale vapor With MTs it's pretty much never an issue, however a base with landing pad in render range of a crashed ship will spawn an NPC pilot to whom the wreck will teleport to 10-15s after it renders in, and they'll fly off with it. Even worse, uploading a base with crash site on-property can cause Distress Deacon marker to force identify when players download base data - when this happens, the site is completely fouled for Living Ship spawn for the player until they fully cycle StoredInteraction savedata, on average that takes months.
I recommend the same standard for all finds, less chance of confusion/accidentally building too close

Is there a coord you might have for Yacityash on where the alien gun is? Im using maps but it wont locate anything on the planet for some reason
@keen vigil No, fly to Nesinkie, planetary coords -27.92, +32.03, and drop a Save Beacon near it. Then fly to Yacityash, create Restore Point, amd reload; now when you fly back to the beacon on Nesinkie, the S Class cabinet there will have the Alien rifle.

@winter bone There are 2-4 for each planet as well as SS, so a 2 planet system has no less than 6 total models, a 6 planet system has no more than 28 total, not counting Royals.

lots of wierd stuff happening with minor settlements at the moment. i was spamming charts to find an s cabinet. finaly found one so put down a save beacon. went to other planet and reloaded.....
when i got back to save beacon it looked like this
not the only thing either some settlements seem to reset themselves and mix up the super slot layout
its making me think the only "safe" mutlitool layouts are the ones from space station cabinets. in terms of super slot layout anyways.

i think anyway im not realy sure how seeds and slot layouts work. i read that a multitool gets 2 of its super slots from the tool seed and 2 of them from the cabinet seed but i really dont know anything about it tbh

So an S Class cabinet all 4 SC slots are from cabinet, a C Class cabinet is 1 slot from cabinet, 3 from mt seed

I have the core mods in SC slots to boost weapon damage and shields
The sentinel mods pair with the boltcaster, so would boost you there. Matching the ideal layouts as.on that page can be like tetris but thr benefits are great
Core tech is always good to have in an SC slot. And then arrange the techs/mods around them

If you can get an upgrade in an SC as well, all the better
But that's good to know about the sentinel mods
Yeah, they only boost boltcaster so no need to worry about other weapons
I've found in my personal experience that the core mods do better in SC slots than the upgrades do

And if you can find enough that are attached, you can still get a great bonus even if the layout isn't ideal. Like this
Ideally you want put all modules for each tech in 2x3 or 3x3 in case of Boltcaster grids

So... With Mt hunting - Say loading into a planet makes a pistol appear in a weapon cabinet. Will it still be the same pistol for other cabinets in the system or can it change with different cabinets - if you get what I mean.
Reloading on different planets = different mt
I think it can be different for different cabinets, but I think each system has a pool to pull from

Best way to find an S tier multitool?
Go to all the 2 and 3 star systems and check the multitool
Ive heard its 3 a planet, and SS with 2 and whatever planet u land on first spawns on the anomanomly
The recipe I use for s-tier cabinets is 3 star systems with 6 planetary bodies(6 planets, 5 planets & 1 moon etc) and an A class cabinet the the station. The ones I've found have that in common. After that it's just searching as many cabinets as you can find.
I'll see what comes of it as I'm gonna set up an experiment with them to try seeing what I figure out

Sc slots are randomised to my knowledge. So even if someone found one and gave you the coordinates you would get a different set up.

@versed halo Each planet + the SS has its own pool of MTs, you can only see MTs from whichever pool is currently loaded. So save and reload on the planet the one you want belongs to, then fly to the space station to pick it up as S Class

Just found a pretty decent MT it's base stats were 1200 dmg and 0scan but now that I put my upg on it it's at 8315 and scanner is 340 not sure what category it's in but it's pretty dope 3 super charged slots and 30 tech in total

might not be worth your time. if you check a few cabinets and mostly find B class cabs with that tool then you are probably out of luck. cabinets can only "jump" one class from their native class (with one rare exception)

I found a Rainbow Alien MT in the Essentam galaxy that I would like to share with you!
It starts as a C class very pretty Rainbow Alien MT but turns into a Stone Cold Killer at S class!

Cool. I have five MT currently (1 royal for an alternate roleplay character, 1 alien + 1 experimental I actively use, the Switch exclusive and the starter). Just thinking ahead in case they ever add new types and I need to trade in one. As long as it's random and not unique like the starter ship.

Scale of 1/10 how good is this S class rifle? Mostly looking at the SC slots, I'd say a 10/10 is 4 SC slots in a 2x2

So I was thinking pulse splitter and it's upgrades on the 2 touching SC slots, and scanner upgrades along the top 2 sc slots in a 3x2
This is what I have done with it, scanner modules on the left, pulse splitter touching all 4 sc slots for 18.3k potential damage and mining beam on the right

@tawdry siren SC slots are tied to cabinet up to purchase class, so models from a C Class cabinet share 1 SC slot, all 4 from an S Class cab. SC slots from Class upgrade are dependent on MT seed.
So from an A class will be 3 shared slots ok

Whats best way of finding s cabinet on a planet, how do you know which out of 6 planets to start on and do all the planets have an equal chance of s cab or do some have more than others?
Eg I have an A class alien weapon at station, so there could be an s class somewhere on 1 if the planets, I'm just after a start point of which planet to start on, or doesn't it matter
i dont think it really matters but.....
if you use a chart while in the space station it will mostly always point you to the same planet. once you land on that planet all charts you use will also point to that planet...
if you reload a save or restart your game it will reset your sequence so you will be visiting minor settlements you have already visited so its best to just keep going until you either find one or give up.
what i do is only change planet if i have restarted so i know im not visiting ones that i have already checked
to change planet just land on the planets surface before you activate the chart

another good tip is to go to one planet before you use any charts. keep spamming charts untill you have one icon for each avaliable icon (minor settlement, trade post, observatory ect ) then visit the settlement THEN change planet.
this way you wont have as many other icons cluttering your screen so you can navigate to the settlements quicker
also i find solars are best for this for their flight speed dropping in and out of orbit all the time.
and my final tip is to keep collecting navigation data in each settlment (the npc sometimes sells them too) this way you wont run out of charts

no. some planets dont have minor settlments. the ones that have the big round "boundary separation" structures. airless planets ect ect

i have never found a native A class tool that i have not been able to find the S for.
sometimes it only takes 30 mins like the one above. sometimes it takes hours.
i have a theory that minor settlments are created as you use charts but there is also a maximum amount of settlments that can exist on a planet. i have no proof of this but it would explain some of the wierdness that i have seen while tool hunting.
Yes, weirdness. I found an S cabinet that changes to an A class sometimes. And I have found that the supercharger slots CAN move in a cabinet.

I am working on an A class space station cabinet now that is not. It is so close to a perfect square supercharger. 6 planet system. If I reload on a certain planet the 4th sc moves closer to the other three than the other 3 planets.
I still have two more planets to check
in all honesty i really dislike the reload mechanic for multitool pools or anything tbh. its completely immersion breaking and makes toolhunting more of a chore than it should be.
i have a reasonably spec'd pc and i hate it. i dread to think what it would be like on other platforms or running lower spec hardware.

It is my understanding that if it is a native B class system or less, the you will never get an S class MT cabinet, DHW will probably know, but that is what I understand from what he said to me 6 months ago

this is mostly true but as dhar says there is an exception. if the system economy is t2 or higher and there are no native A class tools in the pool then it can drag the closest tool to S class in the right cabinet. so if a planets pool only has say 1 C class and 1 B class, then it is possible for the B class to spawn as S class in what would normaly be an A>S cabinet.
@glad wren @tawdry siren As mentioned, any system that isnt Abandoned or T1 will almost guaranteedly have at least 1 S cabinet, minus an edgy edge case in 2/3-planet systems where none of the planets present has Minor Settlements.
As for Class/SC slot change, that falls under the umbrella of Prime Planet Class Split, which happens in about 1% of imhabited systems as far as I've observed.

@lean fiber Disable MP, Portal here in Euclid, head to the Space Station, create a Restore Point, and Reload. When you head back to the planet you arrived on, the Cabinet location should be marked by comm balls/bases, +87.59,-52.10

ok so given that Sentinels are the main focus of the new update, I need to sort out my combat MT and accompanying upgrades. Which sort of weapon type is best to take them on in general? In the past I've just used the Scatter Blaster, which has got the job done, but I feel I should use a more refined approach. Are there preferred weapon combos now with the new weapon module types? Are Alien MT always better in damage than other MT (I have one from a Twitch drop that I could use for combat if that's the case). Thx for any insight.
If you are looking for "Refined approach" i would go for the plasma grenade launcher
forgot to mention that's the other weapon I tend to use, but it's relatively difficult to land a hit with it
i use that along with the scatter blaster and the pulse spitter which doesn't do a ton of damage but is very fun to play with
just try out all the different fire modes and see what you like, they have changed a lot and i have still not tried the blaze javelin for example

I'd suggest the voltaic amplifier as well. Hitting sentinels with a plasma grenade weakens their defence for a short spell

experimental, royal, and Alien are all solid, but excel at specific things. Alien is best for combat, Experimental/Royal are best for scanning.

I went to a system and then the spacestation and looked at the MT and reloaded to ship hunt. Then I went to a planet's MT cabinet. The MT was not the one that was suppose to be in that cabinet. I think it was from the spacestation.
I reloaded on that planet in front of the MT cabinet and it changed to what was supposed to be there
so u found a normal mt there and u reloaded and ıt went back to a sentinel one

Are you sure this is correct? Seems these sentinel weapons have the highest damage potential but are among the worst for mining and scanning
You can find those by going to a world that has corrupted setinals, as for how to get the multi-tool (what I did was eliminate enough sentinals, thjey drop a beacon or something (not sure what it is) and a camp gets marked on your map/compass.

Are sentinel multitools free when you find them or something? The way patch notes talk about them they are salvaged instead of bought. In the past NPC's used to have a chance to give free ones to you but haven't seen that in years now and all multitools since seem to be on anomoly and stations for money
If free I can't imagine they are very common to stumble upon
You need an item (echo locator) to locate where they are, and then to solve a puzzle, and then you get a choice; ship coordinates, or unlock multitool locker. Then it's free, IIRC. But not exactly a simple get for most.
ah so no combat required? Echo locator hard to get?
Echo locator is a sentinel drop, I believe. Have to take on sentinels on the ground in a dissonant system, on a corrupt sentinel planet. So combat required to get the item in the first place (unless someone gives you one).
So it's free as in it doesn't cost units or nanites, but you do need to survive some rough combat (or get lucky)
You can do both you just have to interact with the terminal again

hmm I never really have weapons or defensive stuff on my character lol so I tend to avoid combat with sentinels
the one time I did it was inside a base that activating it calls them and since they deagro when you are inside buildings I could shoot them from inside and dart in and out the door
tbh combat is confusing because we don't seem to have a "health bar" so I never know how i'm going in combat lol

Do the new Sentinel MTs have different colors available? Most pics here I'm only really seeing one color scheme for each.
I have no idea really and the one I tried to get he was gone reduced to atoms like I don’t know but I’m guessing yeah probably because they’re probably all orange
