Just... please make that a thing, getting kinda annoying to see PF just loses on that room so consistently cuse it doesnt straight up forces you like TNA light room

only drawback is that room gonna be slightly slower cuse no speedrunning strats, but honestly im willing to make this room slower if it just means no stupid fails cuse you forgot to check out who will volinteer to hold shift while looking left and right

#

legit if you dont belive its a big problem. join PF, actually not even that, had cases when it happend even in graids

Said this before but there are large gameplay differences between vm room and astral defense. In astral all 5 challenges are fully capturing the players attention the whole room. And defending essentially locks you out of doing any of them. Ultimately astral defense plays like you’re a player short, so much so that the difference between someone immediately defending, and somone defending after boulders or machine is litteraly doubling time spent in the room.

#

In vm you’re expected to be done with “your challenge” before defending because the main threat is unlocked after all of the other ones are done

#

Ultimately the only real skill expression in astral defense is
Can your party split into 4? -30 seconds
Vanilla parkour player misses a jump? +30 seconds
Boulder player messes up first run?
+10-15 seconds/just a raid fail

violet frost
#

Theres always 1 person in your raid who you have full control over and can make them defend if needed

What are you gonna do if the change is implemented? Sit and wait for the room to start just so you can avoid defending?

i guarantee its way lower than it should be 😂

dreamy axle

avg is like 6-10 minutes

an optimized run (aka just with gu mates saltroll ) can be 4-5 ig, at least from my experience, maybe you should consider adding time in a way that nobody dislikes fr

exotic axle
#

avg tcc time 3-4 min 30sec boss fight

hybrid dust
# tidal scaffold what is "average" tcc time

plats/lava room: ~1:30 min
Maze: 30sec to 2:00 min, depands how bad the RNG for exit is and how glassy the builds are
golem escort: 2:30, there's a reason why ppl hate it
Astal defense: 50sec if optimal to ~1:30 if the defender doesnt rush to do premival mech/boulders first
Boss: 30sec min, yes if everyone but ones dies to stupid rng (specificly in graids)

#

so prtty much the suggestion gonna ad atd worst 40 sec to Astal room, and like maybe 20 at best

tidal scaffold
tidal scaffold
dreamy axle
# tidal scaffold ah yes what an easy thing to accomplish

i said an optimized run is that short, otherwise 6-10 minutes is pretty easy for average pf unless the whole team dies, even with just 3 players doing task and one is defending. Unless you are implying that this is too easy or sth, i sure dont like sarcasm as a response augh

uncut valve
# dreamy axle fair

The other thing is when someone chooses to take the light it isn’t like they can’t help with the main objective of the room. Forcing someone to defend astal is so commital and basically locks the defender out of playing the room. If this was added I’d like to see one of the 3 challenges removed. Furthermore, if this change was only added to nongraid tcc i think it would overall worsen the pf experience as most experienced players don’t want to spend a minute holding shift even once

#

I’m all for making tcc longer and more skill based but this is not the way to do it. Its already decently risky to go for no defend/boulders then defend because astal is left at 1-2 helth when you go for it, removing this skill expression just seems backwards

dusky anchor
#

“locked out” is a string and slightly inaccurate word for being forced to do a boring activity (I get that u said basically)

alpine crown
#

i think i'd like to make the defend challenge more engaging

#

rather than say fuck it and throw it out entirely

dusky anchor
#

would be cool if there was more stuff with swapping who defends

#

oo like u get a debuff when u do a task or as you complete a task and then can swap out with someone else

#

might not work so well with boulder and parkour

uncut valve
#

I absolutely think defense should stay, and 5hp is pretty perfect for making the room have some skill expression but yeah something to make it more engaging and not just tedious would go a long way

#

But given the option id much prefer what we have until plans for redoing parkour and this new engaging defense are both ready

tight edge
#

But it shouldn't be gear dependent (pfinder has people with poor build)

wide latch
#

Change defend to colour change

spring scaffold
#

I have an idea to make the Astal defend less boring

#

I just came up with it in like the span of five seconds though so there might be some flaw I haven’t seen yet

upbeat night
#

make the astal defend a dance dance revolution with meteors coming down in front of you with different arrows as shapes

spring scaffold
# spring scaffold I have an idea to make the Astal defend less boring

Goal is to defend Astal from a new enemy by distracting it

  1. Enemy could literally just be any Colossus or Lava creature, what it is doesn’t matter
  2. Enemy will attack Astal while there are no players in the circle, if Astal loses all hp the raid is over
  3. The player “distracts” the enemy via entering the circle (the circle is now larger and serves as a mini-arena)
  4. During the distraction phase it’s basically a survive minigame. The enemy is unkillable but will launch onslaughts of attacks that the distracting player is expected to survive against
dreamy axle
#

not with my 12k ehp build

upbeat night
#

i think that makes it so incredibly less unforgiving if you do happen to die

#

which kinda sucks

spring scaffold
#

If the player dies it’s pretty much up to the other players doing the challenges to rush to the circle as fast as possible to take over
The player death message is visible as always so all of them have to be on their toes and actually keep track of who is going to do the distracting beforehand

upbeat night
#

its too unforgiving

#

🤷

spring scaffold
dreamy axle
#

that still sucks, just lemme kill shit man

upbeat night
#

yes

spring scaffold
#

Unforgiving in what sense

upbeat night
#

....?

#

how is it NOT unforgiving?

#

your ass is NOT getting off the parkour or out of the boulder area if the person distracting dies

spring scaffold
#

I mean, two of the other challenges also have a danger of death

It’s just this one is a maintenance rather than a token gathering

dreamy axle
#

you cant kill them and they can pretty much kill you any moment, that's like "Jungle Fever" but 10 times worse

dreamy axle
dreamy axle
#

which sucks

upbeat night
spring scaffold
#

Like, you are supposed to survive instead of beating down the boss’ hp

spring scaffold
upbeat night
#

your design

spring scaffold
#

Because mine still has the same concept of “if there is no player there Astal’s health begins to lower”

upbeat night
#

so?

spring scaffold
#

Like, the enemy will not damage Astal if the player is within the circle

upbeat night
#

the person defending astal cannot die in the current version

dreamy axle
#

said type of challenge also exist in rol, and we know how that went

upbeat night
#

period

#

its just not possible

spring scaffold
#

Yeah so I want that to be possible

upbeat night
#

which is fucked

#

🤷

spring scaffold
#

Is being in danger of failing the maintenance spot via death just a set design rule when making a token room or smth

upbeat night
#

ill admit you have good suggestions from time to time but this is not it

spring scaffold
#

Because I find the possibility of death in that position (the non-gathering position) perfectly okay in my eyes

#

It adds to the risk on your own life rather than shooting meteors from the sky to just defend Astal’s

upbeat night
#

theres a difference between someone wanting to defend and dying -> effectively forced raid failure if people are doing parkour/boulders

and a raid failure because someone is purposefully not doing it/getting off of it

spring scaffold
#

I guess I just wanted to make that mechanic less boring

upbeat night
#

it would make it tedious and annoying to do

spring scaffold
#

As in, the issue is the sudden pacing break for everyone else if the defending player dies?

upbeat night
#

yeah its effectively a forced raid failure since surprisingly you cannot get out of boulders or parkour that quickly (you have flame)

#

and also it kinda just sucks to do

spring scaffold
#

I see

spring scaffold
upbeat night
#

its tedious to be jumping around and trying to dodge a mob for minutes or more while waiting for your teammates to get stuff done

spring scaffold
#

I guess meteor is more repetitive than tedious

#

At least to most people, I expect

upbeat night
#

meteor is something you can effectively turn your brain off for and hold sneak

#

you have to maintain focus for the whole dodging period and make sure that you are maintaining your health and are still confined to a small area and have to not die or the entire party will fail

spring scaffold
#

Or rather is that a thing people would want over something slightly more exciting

upbeat night
#

its better than the proposed idea

spring scaffold
upbeat night
#

people would find it more exciting if they could kill it 🤷

#

it kinda sucks ass to just be running away from an invincible enemy for a few minutes

I'm gonna get crucified and I said this previously in another thread but I don't think every single thing that happens has to be the most interactive, engaging experience that you've ever encountered. Defending astal isn't too hard which is a good thing. It's not too easy either. Maybe it's slightly boring but yknow there are 3 other challenges you could claim and do so you may only need to defend one in every 4 raids which is hardly the end of the world is it?

#

Forcing at least 1 person to go defend (which is meant to be a requirement of the room idc about skip methods) seems completely logical to avoid people just not engaging with it and failing the raid

#

If you want ways to speed up the room then it's better if it's actually made that way than arguing over keeping some stupid things like fully skipping parts of the room in the game (as it was before and I guess is still partially the case with leaving astal to almost die before bothering to defend)

turbid furnace
# tidal scaffold I'm gonna get crucified and I said this previously in another thread but I don't...

I dont think anyone would reasonably disagree with the idea that not all content needs to be raid boss level exciting, however I do think that there is a baseline of engagement that needs to be met for something to be considered enjoyable by a majority of players, buff rooms already serve as a pace reset between rooms so saying that the content itself should be intentionally slowed down for pacing seems redundant, raid rooms themselves are also already at a much lower level of engagement than the bosses themselves and that is understandably by design.

The place that people will disagree with you is your definition of engaging isnt the same as most players, wynn has lightning in a bottle with its combat system and most people play the game to experience that fantasy, not to do things vanilla related, things like parkour being core gameplay related in repeatable content is not something many people like because it feels more like something to get out of the way to get to the fun stuff again instead of something to be enjoyed in and of itself. In alot of ways Astal defense feels the same way, it is insultingly easy to most people, doesnt utilize the spell cast system, and eliminates all agency for room completion from the player who takes it, this is an incredibly boring gameplay element because to alot of people it forces you to stop playing wynncraft for the 2-3 minutes it takes to finish on an average run

People (myself included) flock to defend arbitrary tech like defense delaying because its high risk, high reward, and highly skill expressive, it gives back to this room what so many players desperately want which is excitement, youre right that its logically inconsistant with the idea of the room to keep but if you want to improve the room/not make it worse, at least taking into consideration the spirit of why things like parkour skip and defense delay are so liked to begin with would already be a good start for improvements

thank you for interacting with us so much btw ik i dont speak only for myself when i say its awesome how much transparency and discussion you guys provide in these threads

uncut valve
#

Tcc is already such a low skill floor raid, everyone should at least know how to defend

#

And if no one in your party knows how or cares to defend you deserve the raid fail

#

Every change made to tcc has not only made it slower but in a way that doesn’t actually require any skill expression, this litteraly created a raid where if i wanted to i could afk for the duration of the raid 50% of the time and the completion time would not be affected at all

#

Lava room was boring to begin with we just put up with it cuz it was fast, it is now not only slower than plat unless performed optimally, its core gameplay of hold right click on a block has not changed

tidal scaffold
#

I didn't say the content should be intentionally slow but this is 1/4 of the room it's not even a majority of the content.

It also bothers me that it's widely agreed upon that raids suffer from a "DPS meta" but anything other than dealing damage and slaying mobs is deemed too boring. Imo mixing it up with stuff that isn't mindlessly spamming spells like in the rest of the raid rooms makes it more engaging not less.

As the defender you're basically the most important person for the room completion and no it isn't insanely easy. We take this for granted as experienced players.

#

We could also just pick a defender but then we'd have to add some kind of rotation or something idk because someone might just suck at it and if they get picked then the raid is over lol

#

I do understand why skipping tech is liked but It shouldnt be defended when room improvements are being proposed or discussed. These things are hacky and are never going to fit in. The only reason they're liked is because it's the only way to speed it up currently

#

If there was a built in mechanic to speed it up like being quicker with lava room or being more coordinated with the new nol tower room then everybody would agree that hacky skips aren't the way forward

#

Lava room genuinely doesn't have much wrong with it I don't know what to tell you

#

Golem room is very well known to be something we are gonna work on

#

Maze room isn't really good it's just liked because it's quick

uncut valve
#

I think tcc just has a sour spot in my mouth because you could litteraly be vannila steve and still add to the rooms meaningfully (hold right click on lava, take wings, and do parkour)

tidal scaffold
#

And astal room isn't designed badly, it just has 1/4 parts that's slightly boring

uncut valve
tidal scaffold
#

Tree is definitely far more complex than this ^^

#

I do see where you're coming from though it's not an easy one.

I just think that the suggestion from this thread really wouldn't change anything about current astal and I don't really think a lot has to change

#

I don't think it would make the room any slower unless you're in pfinder with people who don't understand the room in which case completions are slow anyway

uncut valve
#

Thats true

tidal scaffold
#

The only thing it would affect is the skip tech which should probably be replaced with a better way of speeding up the room anyway

uncut valve
#

Like i said if defense was forced and one challenge was removed i think it would he okay

#

Because then at least every player has a clear role

tidal scaffold
#

What if instead of defense there was debris on the parkour and axon areas and you had to clear it out for your team to get through and activate the sigil

uncut valve
#

Tbh i was thinking more like move axon to where boulders is, remove boulders, buff the shit out of both minibosses and make parkour go all the way to his head

tidal scaffold
#

Or idk maybe only 3/4 sigils need to be activated and you can do any 3 (but that would 100% just result in 1 being never done (parkour))

uncut valve
#

and make it use grapple mechanics or something

#

Yeah i think the main design flaw is its trying to mimic vm room 5 challenges with one defend but each challenge is the entire length room. So you’re always a player short somewhere. And skipping the “elder challenge” doesn’t lose you time at the risk of failing vs skipping any of the others does lose you time as one player will always do 2 challenges

uncut valve
#

At least in strong parties

dusky anchor
#

what if you could skip the last challenge

#

but tcc gains abilities for each sigil not activated

#

and hp

wide latch
#

In terms of like the room mechanics not everything has to be that engaging but the parkour is literally just vanilla parkour with 2 jump pads and defending is holding down shift and occasionally looking in the other direction

Imagine if every single player actually contributes to defending Aster while also doing the challenges at the same time

Like, there is no standing spot everyone just has an item that lets you shoot really slow incoming meteors

#

Terrible idea given range is an issue here and that it'll be impossible to coordinate with everyone anyway but
Just a thought

hybrid dust
uncut valve
#

And those challenges can’t be done in parallel

#

Im not completely against changing the room, but tcc has much bigger problems than the last challenge

#

Also I was thinking about it, and astral defense should probably be changed to just use your main attack/spells and not lock you in place. The reason so many new players can’t do it is because for 100 levels they’ve been trained “when defending something attack the danger with ur abilities” and defense is fundamentally different.

tidal scaffold
#

I'd like to make the boss fight slower too because it is kind of insane

uncut valve
#

Yeah I like will rarely queue normal tcc unless im in a 4 stack nowadays, the boss is just kinda anticlimactic and has 1 threatening attack which is pnly really threatening because it’s tell is a little weak

#

But the problem imo with making the boss harder is that the raid is bordeline unfailable outside the boss even if your party is low skill. So essentially no players get “weeded out” for lack of a better term getting to the boss

#

So as a design team you’re forced to accommodate a lower common denominator than every other raid, as tcc is in that weird spot where the lowest skill players aren’t low level players doing it, just the endgame players that can’t consistently beat tna
