my current idea for the mapbook slot is you could create miniature minimaps using 16 [4x4] or 64 [8x8] individual maps which you could put into a book/atlas. Which you could view... a far more balanced version of the minimap mods that exist.

my personal opinion on how I think the vanilla minecraft equipment slots should look like.

first a glove slot, like the aether mod. It would be a 5th armor slot but would instead focus on 2 different approaches. First is the standard armored gloves that have existed for a long time in the aether mob. These gloves would grant the player a small amount of increasing the players punching damage, knockback and armor toughness. [maybe punching could also be reverted to pre 1.9 attack speed, so is a viable combat option] Second use could be for like the crab claws idea, that lost the mob vote.... Which when equipped could would extend the players block reach. [could also be a treasure enchantment for armor gloves]

Second is the Quiver slot which would which would function like a bundle, but instead only be capable of storing, 1 arrow/firework of 4-8 kinds. The purpose of this item is to make sorting your ammunition order much easier. Since currently you often have to offhand the ammo you want to fire or order them a certain way in your inventory. [also if you have infinity and a regular arrow in the quiver you would not need to have an arrow taking up an inventory slot]

Third is the mapbook slot which could be used to store maps, and be used to create a miniature minimap, in a 4x4 or 8x8 map grid. As a long time Minecraft player [14.5 years now]. I have felt that since 1.9 that a few more equipment slots should have been implemented, alongside the offhand slot. This is especially the case for the scrapped quiver, during 1.9's development. I will now give examples of the slots, ideas that would well into vanilla minecraft, and would serve QoL functions. i[The roots of these ideas stem back to like late beta, with the Aether's release with its gloves and the quiver scrapped during 1.9's development.

**First **is idea of a glove slot, like within the Aether mod. It would be the 5th piece of armor but would serve 2 unique functions.
First this slot would be where you would equip the crab claw idea, which would grant the player extra building reach. [Would only impact place and breaking block distance, wouldn't impact combat Range] [like 2 blocks]
Second, there would be craftable armored gloves that when worn would give armor toughness, and increase the knockback and damage the player deals when punching entities. [There could also be 2 unique treasure enchantments for the gloves, located within Ancient and End Cities. First is an enchantment that would increase the building block range from 1-3 blocks. Second there could be an enchantment granting players the bedrock exclusive reacharound block placing mechanic.
I see this as being useful for all players, and one more piece of gear we could add trim onto like within the Aether mod.

**Second **is the quiver and its associated slot, for which I have 2 proposals for.
First is to give it 2 slots, like the scrapped version from 1.9, which could store 1 stack of arrows or fireworks. This approach, would allow for easier sorting of ammunition and allow you to quickly change the type of ammo you are using.
Second is to have a single slot for the quiver, but have it function like an inverse bundle where you would put ammunition into it. It could store 4 different kinds of ammo, which could be put in use priority order. The order of the ammo in the quiver would determine what kind of ammunition the player would use when firing a bow/crossbow.
[Either 1 per type or 1 stack each]
The purpose of the quiver would be to make sorting ammunition easier, and allow players to create a priority order. Making it so we no longer need to use the offhand or organize our inventory in a certain way to use the ammo we want.
I think either of these approaches would be balanced, in vanilla unlike nearly every Minecraft mods execution.

Third ** is the idea of the ui slot, which may not work in vanilla. This slot would be used to hold the spyglass, clock or compasses. Each would have a small ui feature which you could activate with universal keybind for the slot. The spyglass would zoom, the compass could display the players position, like how its displayed in bedrock, and the clock could display time and day count. This would grant these items a second chance at life as they have lost nearly all use over the years.
Also for the ui slot I would suggest adding a new item called the atlas, which could store up to 16 or 64 maps. This atlas when used could create a limited grid like minimap for the player. ** [Size would be 4x4/16 or 8x8/64 maps] This would make vanilla maps more useful, and help with navigation.
The main idea for this UI slot, is to revive the use of some old items and give balanced QoL overlay features to the player. Granting us access to limited versions of features from some very popular mods, like minimaps, zoom and mods, and f3 info. [While encouraging player choice like weather to wear an elytra or chestplate]

I think this approach and changes would be very balanced and very helpful to all kinds of players. Useful for builders, survival players, in both combat and exploration, while also being a bit of QoL, and helping a tiny bit with inventory management, and servers customization.
