However, it is possible to differentiate darkness spikes from natural mountains - the natural terrain is still made of stone, while the spikes/anything darkness created are made of obsidian. It seems that the spikes and everything emerged from the pre-existing mountains, exaggerating the terrain

Aledar is mortally wounded and the others are killed by liver-related complications and a thing that has 50 lines of diologue (old quest). You make it to lutho safely with both Aledars (glitch) and set out thourgh the toxic wastes, fight easy monsters, Aledar cures his baldness and not his poison, and after a jumping puzzle you make it to EO. He reveals his whole plan was to sacrifice one of the other party members and beat the eye with you, or maybe sacrifice himself the whole time, can't remember. The door requires a sacrifice, yada yada Shank him f's in chat||

Aledar still keeps the secret of the sacrificial altar, which does color his intentions a bit, but he also admits that either him or Elphaba were gonna sacrifice themselves anyways. And we weren't the only ones uninformed, which makes things more encompassing.||

||The rewritten version is definitely more consistent with his character as a whole, while still being a bit of a shock. Another thing I like is that him hiding the information about the sacrificial altar does add some doubt to how it would've happened in the end if all had gone according to plan. It also plays into one of dialogue pieces you have with Tasim on the Dam, when he confronts you about Aledar's death. With the dialogue choice being something like Tasim not really knowing Aledar as well as he thought.||
