i can't honestly help you with Busses wynd. I've never coded a road vehicle, and honestly most stuff i do is just copy-pasting the same switches over and over again.

Again a joint venture, this time between SBB and SNCF. They mix their trains and staff, but owner is always FLIRT = SBB, ALSTOM = SNCF.

There is a range of New trains that should never expire in the game. For anything Else, there is a setting in the game settings that will prevent trains from expiring.

Ah that's one of the least stupid requests we've had. There might be signals/tracks in the future but I don't like promising things :)

I have a question, I noticed that locomotives in GETS lose their efficiency very quickly after the end of availability (production) ("Reliability" parameter), even though the locomotive itself is not old. Is this an intended effect in GETS or maybe a bug, this happens on OPENTTD 14 and on JGRPP
This is due to two things:
On the one side, I'm not focussing much on reliability, since most of us just turn breakdowns off.
On the other side, I'm quite sure this is a side effect of these old locos being available for so long (keep in mind, your 151 in the screen is now ~70 years old designwise)
There are many online servers where failures are enabled.
Why add new locomotive paintings (e.g. DB BR 151 locomotive) at the end of availability when you can't enjoy them because in 5 years it will no longer be available and its reliability will drop to 0, (before 40 years of its real life), what's the point? replace rolling stock with newer paint jobs, ???
what's worse, the option of replacing the old rolling stock with a new one will not work in this case because these locomotives are not old yet, but the reliability is decreasing,
well, i've just checked the codebase. reliabilty decay is set to the OpenTTD standard value. So if you suffer from these problems, you should actually experience this in (most) other trainsets, too.
in general, GETS is more faced towards reality, not that much towards gameplay. in conclusion, not everything you'll find in the grfs will totally make sense in terms of OpenTTD-mechanics. this of course strongly applies to the tons of different liveries we've included. Their sole purpose is indeed to look nice :)
In other sets, I did not notice such situations that after the end of the locomotive's availability, its reliability drops quickly to 0 (importantly, the maximum reliability also drops towards zero (e.g., from 95% to 30%)), that's why I'm writing about it, I thought that maybe it's a glitch in GETS
I think it is the "retire_early" problem?
When playing with breakdowns, I often just replace the locomotive and forget about the wagons. Then I wonder why my BR101 only goes 140 km/h and not faster.
You should also pay Attention to the used track-set.
Good thing, that the drivers in OpenTTD know about these restrictions, otherwise we would have safety risks and issues all the time. ๐
And btw. how can this work without catenary?

I think Hungarian Voxel World (HVW) has something similar
I know HVW - it's good - but it's not quite it,
Real Semi Truck is also - but again it's not quite it.
and after the 3rd - they appear in the game late
it's more about the GETS style - and the scale in the game
SUV might be similar
and here's an interesting fact - you can easily make a Polish set from GETS - many locomotives from before 1945 and almost all after 1990 were or are used in Polish railways
(and even in GETS there are locomotives produced in PESA - Poland)
SUV vs Timberwolf vs HVW vs Real Semi Truck
The funny thing is, that GETS, HVW and Timberwolf all use Timberwolfs tool to render voxel models. I don't know about Real Semi Truck. It might use a different colour palette and looks different for that reason.
I like HVW (thank you for the tip!) and Timberwolfs set and style. I wonder what you are missing? You wish for rl liveries from GETS and Real Semi Truck?
"real" uses some other rendering not involving voxels
created in Voxel but graphics quality like GETS + ability to add sub-models like in GETS or HVW, and they should be at least from 1950, only Timberwolf is from the early era but made in low resolution (or whatever you call it)
GRF making is somehow free labour, you donโt expect too much volunteers ๐

I started with opening one of the models from https://github.com/GarlicBread42/GETS/tree/main/Voxels/Fertiges, looking at it, playing around and doing a first repaint of one of the locomotives. The tool used for that is https://ephtracy.github.io/
If you want to provide models to this set, please read the guide first. In the guide are also some tutorial videos of Timberwolf linked, they are very helpful to get started with voxels.
And of course you can always ask. One of us should know most things about the models in this set. ๐

Best to pick a existing model with approxemitly the same real life lenght of the train parts (Br 423?) and start from there. If you open the existing model you get dimensions and colors correct from the start.

right I got those locos out from what isn't in GETS yet I have:
- a T5 from the K.W.St.E.
- a snowplow
- a few tank cars with BASF livery
- an acid transport car
- a few generic gas tankers
- a wagon with 4 big kegs on it which are compatible with that early german containerization attempt
- for the alpine addon I have the non streamlined version of the Ae 8/14
- got some spherical gas cars as well
- and I have the ICE X aswell, an experimental version of the first ICE
for the T5 i do have blueprints over here, Acid stuff (asuming you speak of Sรคuretopfwagen) should be well covered by Carstens. I'd be interested in the tankers though - assuming they're 4-axle ones. (I do own the Stefan Carsten Books on 2-axle tankers, so there is more variation possible than i could ever do :D)

according to wikipedia the first one was called 425 back in the bundesbahn
but the quietschie was made way after this one went out of service
so i guess in practice it doesn't matter, there are many such cases

As I'm also currently in a late game strugling with mail, what mail wagons are you missing? I could definitly use a TGV Postal, but unfortuneatly Germany (or Switzerland or Austria) never tested this mode. ๐

No, as the IC2-consists normally don't have a restaurant. They're kind of fixed consists, too (which we didn't implement.... cause freedom!)

Concerning this, there are actually 3 of this breed. The DRG ET 55 was built as a commuter version of the ET 25. After the war DB needed EMU for the Stuttgart region, so they rebuilt (and partly kitbashed ET25) ET 55's. When DB invented a new, computerized naming scheme in 1969, all EMUs had a 4 in front, so the ET55 became the 425.
The Quietschie-Family was built from 1999 on as the common n-coach-DVT consist were aging. Must be one of the first DB-AG EMU's

any chance you could add TGV/Thalys and some liveries that are from other Western European nations to GETS? The Serie 1600/1800 for instance have been used by both the NS and DB
Same for the Siemens ES64F4/TRAXX, this one has been used in the netherlands, italy, sweden, poland etc.
We currently are working on two sets and our list, which models we wish to add to them is near endless already. So I don't expect sets for other countries soon, no matter how common or good looking the trains are ๐

The thing is, the G in GETS stands for Germany. Positively understand, that the team behind gets and the addon committed itself to a massive topic. It's crucial to stay within the boundaries of these topics.
The good news is: voxeling trains is far away from rocket science. There is plenty of tutorials all over the Web. I can only encourage you and anyone else to start drawing and coding whatever you like.

Hi everybody, first of all love the grf. I saw there were voxel files in the github so i painted a swedish vectron in magicalvoxel for personal use only. My question is if there's a tutorial somewhere on how to get it from voxels into OTTD?

Howdy, wanted to leave some feedback. Lovin the mod but the running costs make it hard to integrate with others. I know, balancing them is a toss up but I've been trying to use parameters to get them to play nice with Timberwolf's. I read on the forum that GETS was based somewhat on Iron Horse costs, so I compared those two as well. Funnily, Iron Horse matched pretty well with Timberwolf's but the outliers for GETS and GETS Alpine were still problems, specifically the early lines like the KFNB in Alpine and to a lesser extent, KPEV. By default they're exceptionally cheap in running cost, by 10-20x cheaper than anything else. If I set the rc parameter to very high, I get the opposite problem on the other end, the later trains become 10-20x more expensive than anything else. Looking at it though, it seems like everything introduced after around 1900 is balanced fine, it's specifically the early trains that are out of tune.
That being said, it's onerous of me to come in saying this mod should be balanced by my expectations to someone else's work. I may be doing something wrong or this may not be the design philosophy here. I thought it might be worth pointing out though because I saw the comparison to Iron Horse and thought it gave clarity that those two lines could use another glance.

Iron horse introduces its first trains around 1860. They range $7k-14k/period. Iron horse doesn't have parameters for cost, so it's face value. At very high, the GETS and Alpine equivalents for the same time period don't even break $3k, less than half of the cheapest Iron Horse train of the early game. By the 1880s, the KPEV line starts to have more reasonable costs of up to +$9k/period, but that's where things start to become more in line with other trains in general. By the 21st century, the most expensive Iron horse is Cheddar Valley at $39k/period. At very high (to barely compensate for the low run costs in the 1800s) the average train for this period for GETS is +100k/period, some of them exceeding $200k. The range of values makes it hard to wrangle.
Hmm, the problem is GETS authors and many players that play GETS donโt care about money balance. They typically think โmoney is a bad featureโ, and if they lack money, they usually use โsandbox optionsโ to get more.
@candid yacht thanks for that Feedback man, very appreciated. Even though John is right and most of us regard money as a bad feature, I will take a look into the calculations behind the running cost. Since development is kinda slow atm please don't expect any results in the next few weeks though :)

I was trying some stuff with the GETS-Alpine repo and was wondering how the voxel files get rendered into the png sprites. My understanding is that gorenderer is used, but the buildscript doesn't seem to render the sprites (or i am missing something)

As you're the literally 2nd person ever to ask for the GoRender stuff, I've never put it in the git, since the sprites are there already. I can upload all that after some tidy up on my local machine, of course.

Does anyone else have issues with how cargo is displayed on jgrpp? For me a Fals 183 loaded with coal seems to be "on fire", flashing red/orange. Doesn't seem to happen on the normal release version. EDIT: Also happens with the base 15.0-beta2. No mods other than GETS and GETS-Alpine

I think what is it is because the wagon is exclusively meant to handle CC_BULK, the switch_generic_recolour has a spack with it
I'll try switching it to switch_bulk_recolour in the evening and pray that I don't have to recode all goods wagons.

It looks complicated but you only need to change the line that says speed: 320 km/h; like this

The main difficulty will presumably be in compiling it, I assume you need a voxel workflow - one of the GETS developers would likely need to guide you through setting it up (or @verbal birch may be able to chip in? He uses a similar process for a cousin project of this)

These trains are only permitted in the consists they are showing up in game though (ok, there was a 6part 412 for testing purposes, but there is nearly no documentation on that).
From the technical perspective the BR 412 carriages are all different in many ways. Not a single carriage is comparable to another, so why bring 14 different cars into the set and only a minor group of users can build a working consist together. The set is quite accurate and I built the 412 with all the differences it has.
Also the reversing code wouldnt work anymore and its really something I wouldnt wanna miss (guess thats personal preference)
Coding them to be individual vehicles shouldnt be too hard, but i dont think its gonna be brought into the main set

The build process uses a python script (nml_patcher.py) to combine all the .pnml files into a single .nml file which can then be compiled by nmlc. Are you able to run python scripts?

You don't need c++ but you will need to be able to run python scripts in order to compile this GRF. If you're on Windows I recommend using WSL, as this can be a pain on bare Windows

An alternative might be to edit the gets2.nml file directly, but this is a very big file and it will be much harder to find and change what you're looking for. That's why the modular files are important, they're much easier to organise and edit

I do know a bit of German, but not much technical/computer stuff. From what I can see, your nmlc isn't installed in such a way that it's accessible from anywhere in the command line. You can either just put the nmlc.exe in your working directory, or run it through python itself.

We had the discussion about coupled RailJets earlier, at least internally. Problem is: To get the reverse functional, there had some sprites trickery to be done, which is especially tricky for trains with non-symmetrical model lenghts, as we have it with the RailJet.
I don't know, how the new reverse functionality may fix this problem, but with the current coding it's not possible.
But thanks anyway for the reporting the bugs. The Astoro bug looks more like a classic bug and is hopefully solveable.
regarding the railjet bug, when reversing, the loco sprite jumps out instead of the cab car of the RJ
The railjet is easily solved with the new way of reversing. All you have to do is remove all the existing reversing code and add the new has_cab flag to the cab car
If it's all combined into an articulated unit then you don't even need to do anything
Regarding the new way: How is the change of front and back lights handled in the code?
An is there a way to tell the game, which cab is compatible with which locomotive?
Cab lights can be done with a simple switch, I think it's train_is_driving_backwards
And if you want to limit compatibility, you'll have to do it the usual way with coupling restrictions
when the 101 goes forward it looks normal but when it goes the other direction, it switches sprites with DB MET IC Cab Car

Have you thought/looked into having push-pull setup in such a way that the locomotive and DVT switches - so that in reversed consists with a locomotive and DVT reverse as per real life?
While possible in OpenTTD as far as I know its a bit of a pain in the butt to code
unless NML has made that easier to switch the front and rear sprites around when a train turns around

ALSO I like the scale that this set is using
I kinda with more sets where in xUSSR set scale because with the scale of houses in games and IRL trains sometimes being larger/taller than houses are (especially single floor european houses) so it looks a little more realistic at this scale.
ALso makes it feel more like that the towns are at "real" scale and a town of like 2000 people is "Small" with the scale of these sets.
where as with the scale of other sets using TTD scale, gotta just think of a city of say, 2000 as being "decent sized" instead.

you donโt have to use axle weight. I was mainly thinking about the electrification because if someone wants to play a multi voltage game your trains would show up on every type of electrification
I've already thought about that, yes. But - as so many other things - this is something I'd like to postpone to a later date.
This project is little older than half a year and everytime I touch the code I either learn something or cry in despair. Things will come, when the time comes I feel I've got it down.
