i think it would be alot more of a limiting factor because on an f1 car, the only way you can really tell a driver apart from their team-mate is by their helmet, top of the chassis, number and gloves. i think keeping the number a solid colour would help in f1 more, seeing that in motogp you can see the whole rider aswell as the number

like the rider will have custom helmet, boots, gloves, possibly even different suit (aswell as number)

and its alot more visible to the untrained eye
