The 639 was a test car ahead of the 640.
Ferrari 126C4-M2
Development version of 1984 car, tested by Johnny Dumfries at Fiorano in March 1985. The follow-up 156-85's lines are clearly visible.

Wth is the backstory with Prost wearing Senna helmet?
Senna was to lazy to drive a car for the commercial or?
Senna wasn’t available so Prost had to do it
Congrats @round swift, you're now on lap 20

Oh shit I meant to do that
jacques villeneuve is in the news, so here's when he and ricardo zonta made a bet that they could flat out eau rouge. this is perhaps the dumbest moment in f1 history. https://t.co/DXlFKbe6YE

Hapless Tyrrell driver Ricardo Rosset wages war on two fronts: first against the tortuous twists and turns of Monaco's brutal, barrier-beset boulevards, and secondly against mathematics itself, in the form of the dreaded 107% rule. Who will win?
Hilarious clip of Zonta flipping the bird at the Austrian marshals, much to the amusement of Murray Walker and Martin Brundle!

he turned in a lot earlier in 89 at the lap of the incident
Yeah I sent a video of it slowed down
compared to previous laps
He said that was his racing line but he turned to damn early
It’s obvious it was deliberate
he saw Senna getting in the gap
and chose not to yield this time
Yeah
the fun bit is, his car looked pristine compared to Senna's whose front wing was obviously broken
Look at this, I mean cmon Prost 😂
Way to early
there's something i don't understand, why was Hakkinen so much behind Coulthard in 2001
More DNF’s and a DNS, while Coulthard had more podiums
i don't mean in terms of points, he was properly behind on pace
most of the times
also had the short end of the stick when it came to reliabilitym that's true
Huh. That I don’t know.
David was more consistent I would say. And lucky he didn’t retire so early on in the season. I think his seventh or eighth race he retired from engine failure. Ferrari was dominating the season, but its close rival was Williams and McLaren. Ferrari just got the best out of the two good drivers.
And teams.
Nice Saubers

Yea lmao
it's just a nightmare in the words of one of the affected
who else believes MP4/4 was the best car to have ever competed in F1
I don't
I wonder what’s the most underrated car to ever compete in F1
No one really talks about that
who'd you reckon?
I would say one of the best
Statistics say that they are but it’s hard to say nowadays with the amount of races per year, reliability, and other how other teams performance, etc.
\ :D /
Sometimes I wonder whats wrong with people
Original video: https://youtu.be/rKi--Dzi6ZM
Honestly, one of the most beautiful V6 noise i have ever heard along with the Famous Lancia Stratos and Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI.
Wanted to make this little compilation to keep just the best noise of that italian V6. Have fun listening it !
I’m assuming Ferrari possibly experimented with the exhaust, possibly making it 6-into-1, which is probably why it sounds like a V12 in this particular clip
That or maybe something else
Have ferrari ever been backmarkers
Yeah that'd be an exhaust centre
probably not but there have been years where it was a massive piece of shit
Well in 1980, they were.
Ya
1970s they were alright
I think until 1984 or something they started to declined
1985 was alright. Alboreto finished P2 to Prost in the WDC, same with Ferrari in the WCC
Well their victory was quite emotional, since it was their first win since Enzo’s death, as well as them winning on home soil
True that
In 1987, they won twice. Adelaide and Suzuka. Shame they had a handful of DNF’s, which led to them being 4th in the WCC for a second straight year
Yeah
1986 and 1987 were dominated by McLaren, Lotus, and Williams
Turbo era wasn’t that good for Ferrari
Well, if you discount 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, and 1988
"Thud!"
bonc
I’m saying from 1983-1987
The won one constructer in 1983
And then in 1999
They also won the 1982 WCC
1977-1982 for me was the ground era
And then 1983-1987 turbo era
1977-1982, and 2022 lol
Ground era
fair enough, to me the turbo era is 77-88
1982 was tragic for Ferrari. They had speed. But they lost their drivers
Two crashes. One fatal, one career ending
Yeah. They won the WCC, but at a cost. But however, at least it saw Andretti return to the scuderia and Tambay’s first outing at Ferrari
they could won a wdc also, if it wasn't for the German GP crash
It would have been interesting to see how the Scuderia would have performed if Villeneuve didn’t die and if Pironi never had that accident.
it would've been a rivalry, more intense than Senna vs Prost. Gilles would've tried to beat Pironi at any cost (basically that's the reason he died in Belgium), and he claimed also that he has no problems of leaving Ferrari in 1983. About Pironi, he would defo won 1982, maybe even 1983. idk
If Gilles continued for 1983, I feel like Gilles would fit in with Renault better than Eddie Cheever did. In addition, Gilles and Prost could possibly give Renault the 1983 WCC
what were the driver contract lengths for the 2014 season?
or is there somewhere that i can find them?
ooo
Now we know where Lando was inspired
Haha
what race?
Looks like the 1991 San Marino GP, judging by Alesi’s helmet, the car itself, and the corner

Prost > Senna

Some people says that 2021 was robbed
Monaco 1984, the most ridiculous race in F1 ever (after Imola 1994)
The race where everyone's car decided to fail on the last lap
Even Arnoux could win that race
Wasn’t that 1982?
Idk, but Monaco 1984 Senna and Prost were with problems
Yeah, it was 1982. Daly, Pironi, and De Cesaris all had problems, leaving Patrese to win
Also, Senna did recall that he wouldn’t have finished 2nd at monaco in 1984 since his suspension was damaged due to him going over some of the kerbs iirc
Why was it ridiculous
I think the 2021 Belgium is one of the most ridiculous races
Yeah as I said, Arnoux would win that race, cause Bellof would be DSQ and Prost could retire due to brake failure
Cause Balestre said to Ickx to stop the race, cause Prost would lost
They said the race was stopped due to heavy rain, but the rain was worst some minutes before, so...
almost same reason
I mean it was pretty rainy
Yeah but 1984 vs 2021
More aerodynamics
They are built to go through that type of stuff. Why do you think they have intermediate or wets?
I don’t think 1984 had that. Just slicks and wet slicks
No buts no cuts no coconuts
I’m pretty sure the race was definitley stopped due to the conditions and the incidents that occurred on track because of it and not because of favoritism towards Prost by the president of the FIA
Of course
Prost was waving because he had brakes issues, and for senna suspension issues
Ickx called the race, and he was suspended from his race control duties for not consulting with the stewards over his decision before making it.
Didn’t know that
what a muppet
The 1984 Monaco Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held at Monaco on 3 June 1984. It was race 6 of 16 in the 1984 FIA Formula One World Championship. It was the only race of the 1984 championship that was run in wet weather.
During practice, Tyrrell's Martin Brundle had a huge crash at the Tabac corner. He landed upside down and was slightl...
lmao
lmao
Even Ickx called it off, it must’ve been complete down pour of rain if it was that bad that he had to call the race around the slowest circuit of the year
Coincidentally the inevitable was Ickx and Bellof colliding at the 12H of Spa in 1985 killing Bellof. I think there is a video of it on YouTube of Ickx’s car.
Apparently David was using a foot operated clutch pedal during his time at McLaren. I don't know if that's true or not since I saw that statement on a Reddit post
Wait nevermind. I found this on the McLaren website
Prost could have been a 5 or 6 wdc imo
Ive heard it from multiple sources
I can do some more investigating
But knowing the dude

Oh ok you found it as well

senna too
89 senna should win
94 he could win too, cause damon hill with the same car almost won
he could stay at williams and maybe win in 96
and 97

?
Senna
what
Well he had more DNF’s compared to Prost despite having more wins. Prost had more points scoring positions than senna throughout the course of the season, so in a way, it was rather inevitable.
yea but im talking about that race
prost did a dirty move, ayrton continued, and then, dsq
Oh, yeah. Suzuka. Senna got a push start from the marshalls which was already illegal, followed by rejoining through the escape road. On the other hand, Senna couldn’t really do anything because he couldn’t just turn around and rejoin through the chicane.
well, he used the escape road, cause its a escape road... he didnt lost enough time being stuck there
senna should win that race
and prost should be dsq
like 97
if in 97 schumi was dsq, why in 89 prost wasnt too?
That’s quite bold to say
if schumacher was in 97
watch that crash again and see, prost just turn into senna

This angle does say a lot about prost’s line
I looked at Prost’s onboard footage on Lap 46. He turns in much later than he did on Lap 47.
however, another part of me suggests that maybe both are at fault. Prost turns in too early while Senna braked too late. But that’s just how I feel.
senna braked too late cause he was trying to overtake? "another part of me" well, you are a prost fanboy, or u hate Senna, cause you literally have a video that proves it
Every driver brakes too late to overtake someone
I don’t hate Senna at all. In fact, I like both Senna and Prost.
Sorry if my opinion on prost turning in early and senna braking late sounded stupid
its ok
some months ago i was saying that max verstappen is better than Alain Prost lol
so

That’s something i’d never expect to hear
I was a toxic max fanboy
we’ve all been a toxic fanboy for a certain driver at some point

David coulthard is that you?
I'm DC's jaw, sentient as you can guess
xd
diffrent stewards + the fact that Senna got disqualfied for the wrong reason anyway
he got a push start i believe but the penalty was reasoned as not rejoining properly via diffrent route but i guess
if argument about prost 89 DSQ then Senna would get disqualified the next year for wiping out notorious frenchman with a big nose alain prost
then why Senna wasn't disqualified too in 1990
steering wheel + ...
Fill the blank
that is correct
cause prost wasnt dsq in 89
do you think senna would crash into prost if prost has been dsq one year before for the same
for me, 90 both could be champions, but in 89 the real one was senna
op
Such a cool looking car

Well today’s Gilles Villeneuve birthday
Salut Gilles
propably one of the best drivers driving for Ferrari
How old would he be today
He was born in 1950
So no you’re right
This one is a very good one
Especially for the 1980
The 1981 Spanish Grand Prix or 1979 French Grand Prix has to be two of his top five drives for a whole of his Formula one career
Wonderful pictures!!! 🤩
Such an odd era of cars
That car is just pure beauty
basically that moment when the most tragic rivalry started
1981 Canadian GP
for some laps he raced on this, he didn't boxed, he didn't stopped, instead he was still racing
then the front wing fell, he raced for the rest of the race without front wing, finishing P3
Who needs aero when you have massive balls
his never giving up ability is the best
How can we forget his maiden win at Canada 1978
that too
i remember Jarier's rotten luck more than this
True
Yeah for sure!!
@oblique dock did you know that the 1978 Ferrari Ferrari 312T3 had no ground effect and essentially beat every car with ground effect on the circuit
also 1979 South African Gp deserves to be there
it didn't beat the BT46B
I would say the 1979 South African was both a success for Ferraris as much as the drivers
The both qualified second and third and finished the race first and second
I would say that the 1979 United States Grand Prix was more impressed as Gilles Villenuve won for half a minute ahead of his teammate
And that gilles was first in the championship after that race
Damn.
And they finished 2nd in the wcc behind Lotus with their 79
Remarkable!
I don't think so
.
Why not?
It was one of the most important races of the season
how so
South Africa, United States, and Italian GP were the most important races. It helped Ferrari and Jody secure dominance in the 1979 season.
The reliability and the first and second finishes including pole positions and fastest laps really helped them out
Murray Walker Fleetwood Mac BBC Grand Prix intro, The Chain, Mexico 1988
"What engine have they got in the back of that Sauber, Murray? Isn't it a Ferrari?"
i think it was torro roso ferrari
ye
it was a Petronas badged Ferrari engine
a take i've seen someone saying of how Gilles is the greatest driver is how he won Monaco in a car that was nowhere near as good as others
when forgetting that the only reason why he won was cuz Alan Jones' blew up in the last few laps
ye he had a fuel issue or sth didn't he
I think he was running out of fuel, he pitted, and then he suffered a misfire
in a span of 4 laps
also
de Cesaris and Jack O'Melly?
Mario and De Cesaris yup
rip de cesaris
missed you guys 🥲
and how do you think theyve done that
gilles
Cherry picking stat because as this is true because he won, that doesn't mean he was the fastest car
in that race itself Jean Pierre Jarrier and Alan Jones were holding a 1-2 place until latter half of the race where both of them had issues,
also, that means that all wins earned by the T3 beat every wing car on the circuit
including those that are accountable to Michelin's tyres more than aero
True
weren't Michelin exclusive only to Ferrari and Renault until 81?
when goodyear left for some reason
ye basically
Michelin and their radial tyres arrived alongside Renault in 77
After the departure of Niki Lauda, Scuderia Ferrari began a new cycle in 1978. Enzo Ferrari appointed a new director of competition in the person of Marco Piccinini, formerly his representative with the FIA. Carlos Reutemann is promoted as first driver for good. He is associated with the young and fiery Quebecer Gilles Villeneuve who still has everything to prove. Mauro Forghieri designed a new car but it will only appear in Kyalami. In the meantime, the 312 T2 is back in service. But the main novelty is the partnership with Michelin for the supply of tires. Already engaged with Renault, which will return a little later in the season, the Clermont-based company is setting out to conquer F1 with its radial tyres and intends to reach success very quickly thanks to this alliance with Ferrari.
ye it seems like it was still Ferrari and Renault only for 78 79 and 80
That comes to show that you should never give up
Even if you’re in second, third, fourth, etc
..yeah?
because this is a period of time where reliability wasn't as good as modern day
and things like this would happen way more often?
Of course dude that’s why I’m saying that
More reliability issues rather than driver issues
I don’t even think that they had carbon fibre in 1980
Lmao
Safety wasn’t a priority. It was about winning races. Why do you think a lot of great drivers have died during the 70s 80s and mostly 90s
carbon fiber cockpits came in 81 with the mclaren mp4-1
Yeah so no carbon fibre in 1980
They probably had some carbon fibre bits here and there
I read somewhere that the wings were carbon fibre in the 1977 wolf
Or something but I could be wrong
DESCRIPTION
A season already under a pall following the deaths of Gilles Villeneuve and Ricardo Paletti became even grimmer when championship leader Didier Pironi crashed his Ferrari heavily in practice at Hockenheim and broke both his legs. Team-mate Patrick Tambay won the Grand Prix the following day but it was little consolation for the...
Really?
Front:Girling, disk, outboard, single caliper Back: Lockheed, disk, inboard, single caliper
As far as I was aware, the carbon brakes came in in 1977
Unless it's just the fact that Brembo came in in 1975
Yeah im not seeing any carbon fibre disks for the wolf WR2 either
From Motorsport.com they say they've been used since the late-70's
Why're you specifically referencing Wolf's?
Because I said That I thought that wolf 1977 had a carbon fibre wing and you said it was the brakes
O
“Brabham started to use the material in 1976, but it would not reach maturity until the 80s.”
Interesting
Gordon Murray's Brabham BT45 was the first F1 car to use carbon brakes in a grand prix at the Nürburgring in 1976
Cool
McLaren was first body to use carbon fibre
monocoque
Such a cool one as well
What are the little bottles in the front? Brake fluids and what not? I noticed them on my lotus 79 and was curious what they were. (Not really visible in this picture tho)
do you know he faked his birth? When he joined F1, he was 27, he thought the age might be a barrier for his progress in his racing career, so he changed up birthday from 18th of January 1950 to 18th of January 1952
Yup
Villeneuve often claimed to have been born in 1952. By the time he got his break in Formula One, he was already 27 years old and took two years off his age to avoid being considered too old to make it at the highest level of motorsport.
Not really sure
I think it might be hydraulic
Fluid
Interesting

Congrats @marsh mango, you're now on lap 10
how many laps
bono my tyres are gone
Can we just look back to see and appreciate how much safety and the cars have changed
Thank god
back then they just eject the drivers if he crashes
crashing your car at these crazy speeds must have been scary
especially with the added bonus that they only really used hay bales as """"" safety""""" (at spa at least)
And that's why people never knew if their favourite driver would win or die
sega branding close up
Thats just cool
damon is short
according to Sega it is
It works better with Prost who is short
damn hes only 5'4
Felipe Massa is 5’5 while Nick Heidfeld is 5’6
Senna was 5’9 or 5’10
Here I am all proud that I’m 6’1 lol
Finally beat senna in something!!!
I’m just as tall as Heidfeld

You are beating him in fewest number of f1 crashes
You are beating almost every f1 driver actually
obviously the brasilian is there when there's football to be played
same 😭
Bruhh what
I knew he was short, but i didnt know he was that short
you can get a glimpse of how short he is with this

Mansell is 180, Piquet is 173, Senna was 176 and Prost is 165 cm
I was Prost’s height when I was 13
probably same, but then i haven't grown a cm since i was 15

My man would not fit a 90s f1 car
Probably got his helmet in the airbox

Bro
Why does senna look taller than mansell here
Like both his legs and torso
well, there's more than 1 way to sit on a wall
Also why are mansell nd piquet wearing two different suits
it happened a lot then
Im like 178
damn we have same height

Listen to this episode from Bring Back V10s - Classic F1 stories on Spotify. The 1994 German Grand Prix was a memorable weekend for F1 on track, in the paddock and even in the pitlane. Glenn Freeman is joined by Edd Straw and longtime F1 journalist Tony Dodgins – who was at Hockenheim that weekend – to discuss everything from Ferrari’s first win...

Best. Livery. Ever.
Yahoo!
yahoof
It became more of a "Yahoo...?" by the 2nd race

The US GP where the Ferraris had a photo finish
That’s cool
Was there a Williams in the 80s with no rear or front wing?
Lol look at the rear wing
That rear wing is tiny
This too
Williams was weird
a ton of the early 80s grid had no front wings but rear wings nah
Isn’t this a European F2 car?
The toyota sponsor threw me off
That’s very weird
The spiritual successor to the March 711
That’s cool
This was taken when Gilles Villeneuve and some other drivers had raced a fighter jet
Joined by Nelson Piquet's Brabham and Bruno Giacomelli's Alfa Romeo, Gilles Villeneuve was not the only one who raced a jet that day....
No, removing the rear wing causes great instability at the back of the car and makes it undriveable at high speed. Theh were experimenting this when Jochen Rindt died at Monza in 1970 (back then, wings were quite new)
When F1 raced at Sebring
weird ways to win your first championship
They could basically go 8 wide
which teams car is that
Cooper
Bruhhhh how was that allowed
the chicane through eau rouge is honestly really interesting
true! it was one of many weird chicanes added to the calendar in the wake of Senna's death
though it does look silly now
id honestly would want to see a return in it
just for the fun
also interesting to see grass
i think thats grass
Yeah… I’m pretty sure a lot of people nowadays wouldn’t have fun with the Eau Rouge chicane.
hmm... it could depend on where the chicane itself is on the hill
well yeah but i'd honestly like it
ik they love classic eau rouge but, its different
it doesn't have to be a permanent fixture either
i wonder how a chicane right at the top of the hill would fare for drivers 🤔
In my opinion, if there is going to be a chicane at Eau Rouge, it might as well be a quick chicane possibly like the Variante Alta at Imola
The good old Variante Alta chicane at Imola was a real challenge to the drivers to get it right. Enjoy! :)
That way, it doesn’t take away from the factor of speed that Eau Rouge normally has
oooh, that is a good pick
