it had a big power deficit indeed
Cosworth in 1994 updated to the EC which was a much higher bore V8 for that allowed 730 by the end
Fire looking car
The back is so smooth
Best looking Ligier imo
looks pretty bland if i'm honest
The 1991 Ligier looks cool as well
Yesss
the JS11/15 is the best, i agree
Most Ligier look cool
When Jack pushed his car across the finish line
and won the title
chad
chad
yeah because of the high number of fractures he received
but it was still a tragic freak complication
yeah :/
a bit anticlimactic though since he didnt really need the finish to win the title
but man was that cooper tiny
i think another quite overlooked death was patrick depailler
he was a really quick driver in the late 70s
and was in those late 70s tyrrells iirc
yeah he was

Can someone guess what model and car this is from it being a beat up Tomica car?
The top one looks like a Ferrari 312T3

No actuall,

It has been a month already? Dayum

Yeah
ah big chungus himself
'78 Ferrari
it has the distinctive white stripe across the car
the '79 Ferrari has a really strange front wing and the '77 Ferrari doesn't have the white stripe and it had different intakes

Tony Brooks
Carlos Pace
that's for all those older than Gilles
don't want to spoil the movie 🙂
Didn’t Prost win his first victory at home
oh yea yeah

Posting this here because Lauda
Shot in 1998, the aircraft, a Boeing 767-300, registration OE-LAW was picked up by a hand full of Pilots including the owner of the Airline Lauda Air, Niki Lauda, from Dublin, Ireland after a C-Check , to fly to Innsbruck, Austria for touch and go training at this treacherous airport within the Austrian Alps.

Is he sharting on Prost or Berger?
Stefan Johansson
Ah right, I thought that was an MP4/5 or 6.

maybe a matter or perspective, but the nose of these is much narrower 😉

||At the 1967 Grand Prix de Monaco, Chris Amon narrowly avoids the burning wreckage of teammate Lorenzo Bandini's Ferrari 312. Mr. Bandini died three days later as a result of his injuries.||
Can this be posted here?
Indeed. That perspective combined with the sparks makes its nose look narrower.
I think it needs spoiler
not sure if it can be posted her but interesting photo
ive seen it quite a few times but only once in this colored version

Yes
Dayum good job!
Wait wha-
The elusive 312T6
I know that this was just a mockup or something but seriously. 8 WHEELS?!
What were they trying to make, a Tank?
Ferrari 312 T6
And that’s a fake 312 T8
When Ferrari trolled the press
The T6 was made irl, but the T8 is just a photoshopped 312T
Actually, there is an AC mod of it
1976 Austrian Grand Prix
This remains the last World Championship race that Ferrari did not enter and the last time an American-licensed constructor won a F1 race. This would also be the last occasion to date that a female driver would not only qualify for but also finish a Grand Prix with Lella Lombardi qualifying 24th and finishing four laps down in 12th place in a RAM Racing entered Brabham.
The Red 5
that livery is just sex
Perfection
my hero
I wonder if i can share my screen here and we watch a classic together

rené arnoux - 1980 brazilian gp
The last race at the old Interlagos
Found out recently that SF pit crew wore yellow during some part of the '90s
I'm also surprised by the fact pit crew members barely wore any protection back then
They used a safety mechanism called running
Lmao true
You'd be surprised at the lack of injury in the pits when they didn't limit speed

Lol good thing I have Corsair ones then!
is this johansson
i cant see the photo
but i remember him hitting a deer
Yes
And to think he gave Onyx their first and only podium, which at the same time, was his last ever F1 podium
Yep, that's Johansson.
Wasn't he the only driver aside from Damon Hill to have both Senna and Prost as teammates throughout his career?
I believe so
good livery
ferrari should learn from this

Michael Schumacher takes the checkered flag in the 1995 Belgian Grand Prix, driving the Benetton B195 through heavy rain. The race is famous for the hefty battle between title rival Damon Hill, who was not impressed by Schumacher’s defensive driving. No matter what, it was an impressive drive from 16th to first.

patrick tambay - 1982 german gp
He was Villeneuve's replacement
he also drove for Ferrari the following season alongside Rene Arnoux
It's a shame the 1982 German GP was overshadowed by Didier Pironi's accident
Did Pironi crash relating to a mechanical failure or a collision with a driver
He crashed into Prost and suffered leg injuries
So it was his fault or Prost’s fault?
I can't really say.
Yeah hard to say
Funny how he won the same race where Nelson Piquet literally did karate on Eliseo Salazar.
Ferrari had a handful of drivers in 1982
of course didnt help that both their main drivers either suffered career-ending injuries or DIED
Gilles Villeneuve drives his Ferrari 312T3 to victory in front of the home crowd at the Canadian Grand Prix in 1978. It became Mr. Villeneuve’s first win, and also marked the first and only Canadian to win his home Grand Prix.

Wish someone used something like it nowadays
jesus i love it so much wtf 😭
I mean, star wars came out in 1977 so maybe, idk when these helmets were manufactered
They are still made, so, maybe we'll see if they ever come back, i really doubt tho, cuz of FIA rules or sum
I doubt they would be as Simpson don't tend to make stuff for FIA safety standards
That's BELL
Simpson are more towards drag and Bike helmets
With helmets like I'm bald and just raised my eyebrows
And the OG looker
The M30
A lot of drivers used Bell helmets
The first that comes to mind are Senna and Schumacher
Possibly but yeah idk
Why does Damon look like a mouse?

racefans.net have alot of good pictures too
one of the coldest photos Ive seen
yep
damn
saddest part was that if Gilles was using a more reliable helmet brand he wouldnt have sustained such major neck injuries
i mean it was 1982 and the F1 cars were pretty shitty for safety, same with helmets
yeah but to my knowledge he was using a relatively uncommon helmet brand
one of the gimmicks on his helmet failed iirc
not sure if it was his chin strap or something else
Interesting
"The greatest Formula 1 drivers have worn a GPA® helmet or a fireproof suit: Jackie Stewart, Nelson Piquet, Alain Prost, Jacques Laffite, Gilles Villeneuve and many others."
I wonder if it was a GPA helmet
Yup
It was a GPA SJ helmet
ah right GPA
im not sure if it was GPA or some other helmet brand
but they were using some gimmick at the type as an alternative for the chin strap
all I know is that some of the uncommon helmet brands dropped out after the incident with Gilles
Brundle Johansson Mansell and Piquet in the first row?
Martin Brundle, Philippe Streiff, Nigel Mansell, Nelson Piquet, Johnny Dumfries, Ayrton Senna, Patrick Tambay, Alan Jones, Andrea de Cesaris, Alessandro Nannini, Teo Fabi, Gerhard Berger
ah Streiff
I recognize Senna and Big Chungus in the 2nd row though
and Fabi and Berger
I can see Alboreto Mansell and Patrese in the top row
and Senna at the bottom
the rest I have no idea or not sure
Johansson I assume
Bellof
yes
is de Cesaris also there in the bottom row?
then beside patrese is a very good lad if i do say so myself
yeah Mansell is too recognizable
front row is de Angelis
the back row is de Cesaris
yeah lol
Back row: Stefan Bellof, Riccardo Patrese, Nigel Mansell, Andrea de Cesaris, Johnny Cecotto, Michele Alboreto, Eddie Cheever, Manfred Winkelhock
Front row: Elio de Angelis, Philippe Alliot, Derek Warwick, Ayrton Senna
yeah this perspective makes it much easier to see who it is
Teo is like 5'5 or something
Even though Prost is 5'5 as well
Fisico and Wurz?
I did not know that Pierluigi Martini had some involvement with Ferrari (not to mention Fisichella pre-2009)
(This photo was taken around 1995 btw)
i mean if you have a name like Pierluigi Martini
your going to be involved in Ferrari either way

Lotus Mika
Villeneuve, Prost, Giacomelli, Lauda, and then Patrese
its quite funny the first thing Lauda did in his first race back out of retirement was stage a strike and a walkout
🍪
Woah, 3 years to have a new winner in F1? Damn
well all winners of 83 were Prost, Piquet, Alboreto, Arnoux, Rosberg, Patrese, and I think Tambay?
and then for 84 it was Lauda, Prost, Piquet, and Keke
so after Senna I believe the next first time winner would be Mansell
or actually no
its either de Angelis or Mansell who would be up
huh, i thought de Angelis won before 85
when the
then its Mansell
82 austria
yup
Well… no. Gerhard Berger is up next
He won the 1986 Mexican GP
Talking about 82 to 85
But, he got his and benetton's first win
And his and benetton's last win
@slow grail what if i do something likr drivers last win, like drivers with multiple wins, and like their last wins
good idea or nah?
sure
don't worry about skipping drivers who have only one win
that doesn't look like Alain Prost.

Gerhard Berger wins his first race, as well as Benetton's, with the Benetton B186 in the 1986 Mexican Grand Prix. His Pirelli tyres lasted the entire race, as opposed to the competitor's Goodyears, allowing him to avoid pitting and finish 25 seconds ahead of Alain Prost.
"Hey, uh. We want you to enter in 1997, otherwise we'll... stop giving you our money"
whatever money they were actually getting from the system lol
@slow grail should the Indy 500 count as last wins? It was part of the F1 world championship in the 50's
yes
but only up to 1960
also what'll happen when you get to the current drivers
day 1 of F1 drivers last win
Johnnie Parsons - 1950 Indianapolis 500
Just list the most recent win i guess
Max will kinda be a pain in the ass if you get what i'm saying lol
which is why i asked that lol
For drivers still racing i'll put most recent win, not last win
?
i guess
or just not put current or active drivers
though judging by your post you'll be skipping over drivers who got only 1 win
actually ignore what i said lmao
i wouldn't worry about that but your choice
Nigel Mansell's 31st and final Formula One victory came in 1994, when he won the Australian Grand Prix from pole in the Williams FW16B. The race is more famous for the title battle between Damon Hill and Michael Schumacher, who entered the season finale with 91 and 92 points, respectively. They collided on lap 35, causing both to retire and Mr. Schumacher to win the championship.
what a chad
really shows how built the Williams cars were for him
he nearly got a podium at Suzuka
but lost to Alesi by aggregate time
i think that he was to fat to fit in it
or was it the 1995 mclaren?
I cant remember
the mclaren
bruh
thats sad
imagine getting so fat you cant race in F1
What did Indycar do to him (joke guys, is a joke)
made him a rookie champion
no it was just a flaw in the design and the fact that McLaren designers didn't anticipate it
although his weight had been questioned as early as the 90s
so i dont know why it was hard for them to anticipate it
i guess Mansell makes up with that with his background and mentality
day 76 of f1 first wins
gerhard berger - 1986 mexican gp
Lol
That wouldn’t a lot tbh would it
The seats are a tight fit and so are the weight requirements
what
I mean still I can’t imagine it would take weighing 100kg to not be able to race 😂
I mean, i think until about 150kg you could probably still race, but not as competitive as the other guys, weight n shit, but after that they would need to re-design the car i guess
because the cockpits werent as restricted
the cockpits became more restricted either to save weight, aerodynamic advantage, or just safety precautions
besides the 50s drivers like Fangio had more of that dad body
they werent weak but they probably needed to lay off the food
John Barnard, Edward Mayer, Ronald Dennis
What was Edward Mayer’s role?
he was team director for McLaren from the death of Bruce till the takeover by Marlboro with Ron
he stayed for a few more years after that and left ig in 1981
he's known as Teddy Mayer btw
Mannn those were the goodyear's
holy shit ron dennis had hair wtf

Man why the hell did the 50's do that thing where the drivers of a team could give his car to another teammate to finish the race
I may have ran into a problem idk
just the overlap with first wins 😄
that car looks beautiful
The Indy Roadsters
is it really that complicated though
as long as they are registered in 1st place they were technically the winner

Haha ya
To me, this was the weirdest looking car Michael drove through his career
And the worst
no?
his 1991 bennetton
was the worst
he did win races
in that 1996 ferrari
in the looks its definately the worst
no
that williams was too good for ferrari
who could forget the 1996 spanish gp
Eh…
What about the Mercs from 2010-2012
Or the F2005? That realistically wouldn’t have won a single race if it wasn’t for the fiasco at Indy
ahh yeah
F2005
the worst
the merc was like atleast 4th or 5th
that ferrari finished 6th maybe
Ferrari finished 3rd in 2005
Definitely the Mercedes cars would be the bottom of the list
The F2005 would be the worst Ferrari
Close behind probably would be the F310 though
@oblique dock
What year is this?
I’m gonna guess 1974
I think Token Racing competed around that time
Either that or 1976-77
1974
The car ran a total of 125 grand prix laps before being handed over to Safir Engineering at the end of 1974. They ran it for two events in 1975 (namely the Race of Champions and The International Trophy). On both occasions it was driven by Tony Trimmer, and finished in 12th and 14th places respectively.

What do you guys think?
Hmm....
Wait, Minardi-Lotus?
Leyton House-Brabham-Jordan?
Oh, wait. I assume these are just mid season transfers
Yes
Please note, this is a slightly fictionalized universe.
This guy has to win a world championship to save his life, due to a curse put on him, but he has been given higher pain tolerances and endurance and less pace fall off with age to help him.
um... I'd say his only chances of winning a title would be in 1982, 1985, and 1986
Actually, maybe not 1982
Guess which year he actually won it in.
1983?
Nope
1976?
Nope, but he did get his first wins in 1976, and actually finished third in the championship that year.
Want a hint?
sure
It’s after all of your guesses so far.
So 1990's I'm assuming
Yes
I'll go for 1992
Later than that
1995?
Yes
I should have known that it would be obvious, considering the description mentioning how he had to save his life by winning a wdc.
Yeah
So, for 1995, assume that Jordan has a better car, and its sort of Karma for Schumacher for 1994.
I have the transfer for 1994 completely mapped out.
After Schumacher jumped ship to Benetton, Jordan essentially spent 3 years waiting up to the moment to show that leaving the team was a mistake
As stated, he races for Lotus at the 1994 Brazilian and Pacific Grand Prix. He filled in for Barrichello at Imola. Barrichello returned for Monaco, and he and Barrichello were teammates from then, until the end of the year.
Sure
Basically, Lauda decided to spend a year off.
Then, Lauda wanted to come back, and did what Prost would do just under a decade later.
Prost be like:
Leave
Come back for one year
Win the championship
Retire
Refuse to elaborate
And then you have Mansell:
Win the title
Go to Indycar
Win as a rookie
Stay another year (for only a few races)
Return to F1 at the end of '94 with Williams and win the final round of the year
Go to Mclaren
End career after failing to fit in the car properly and the MP4/10 being crap
Mansell finally had the big oof of being the tall Indycar driver
For 1985, Ayrton Senna couldn’t veto my driver like he did with Derek Warwick
That’s what I meant
But he did leave Lotus for Piquet in 87
Scratch that
I had him leave for Arrows in 87 so he wouldn’t interfere with the Senna-Piquet triangle going into 88.
Day 5 of F1 drivers last wins

Mansell testing for Jordan in December 1996 Spain
He was setting times which were not much slower than those achieved by Jordan's new driver Ralf Schumacher.
way too long
first of all going from Fittipaldi to Arrows to Brabham then McLaren?
for a driver who started in 1970 if they were good enough they would probably retire at most by the mid 80s
or not even
like Jacky Ickx who drove for Ferrari and Lotus but didn't even make it into 1980
or Fittipaldi who managed to ruin his career driving for the family team
only Mario Andretti to my knowledge has been the only driver to drive in the 60s 70s and 80s
but he was a household name
Ronnie Peterson died in 78 but he was always in top tier teams like Lotus and Tyrrell
and even March when he finished 2nd to Stewart in the standings
but interesting idea
interesting idea indeed, but way too ling career for the era!
people didn’t start f1 until they were about 25 then
unless you brought medical and exercise technology from today to 1970 you would be considered too old or die
You didn’t read the note about how it was fictionalized, right?
yes but even in F1 fiction I like mine a bit realistic
25 seasons would be a bit overkill
Fair enough
What’s the issue with this?
Well, I explained how he got to McLaren
Brabham were a bigger title contender than McLaren
Part of something incredibly complicated
Lauda asked him to take his seat for 1983. So, he wouldn’t tell Nikki no.
as a man who regretted leaving Ferrari
I personally would
but oh well
only if you’re nelson piquet
Don’t worry, there is still his sons career
yeah just make it alonso dominance
mclaren in 82 was fire
so were their reliability
also they had the Porsche engine in the pipes
but oh well
1982 was basically a battle of reliability
and luck
Ferrari easily took the constructors title but they couldnt take the drivers title because their drivers either had their careers ended or their LIFE ended

That’s a long ass career
I know each one kinda gets worse
Also, yes, the son did kinda replace the entire career of Kovaleinen
Lmao
With Kovalainen out of the picture, let’s say he went to Formula Nippon for a few seasons and then he started his Super GT career a few seasons earlier than his original Super GT career
Tbf, 25 seasons is a long time - especially in those days. I don’t think that’s realistic, nor fictional.
20 seasons at most is probably what I’d do.
Jeez, the father almost raced against his son—
that’s, uh, interesting
I think overall it’s quite good, but I think you should shorten the (grand)father’s career, dude needed one more season to race against his son, that’s a bit exaggerated if you ask me
Speaking of fictionalised F1 and Alternative Universes, how would this sound:
note: they’re all around the same age and they’ve had like, 3 seasons in F1 already
(it’s an AU (alternative universe), don’t kill me for screwing the entire history of F1 pls)
ive created a short fictional career about an actual driver from Sweden
`1986 F1 (Lotus) | Hentarina gets signed to Lotus after being recommended to them by Ayrton Senna he nearly scores a point in his debut at Jacarepagua before getting 4th at Monaco, and 3rd at Portugal, he finished the year in 6th between Johansson and Rosberg with 20 pts. |

1992 Standings
and his junior career consisting of winning the 1983 Swedish Formula Three Championship, the 1984 European Formula Three Championship, and the 1985 British Formula Three Championship
and also the 1984 Macau Grand Prix over Stefan Johansson and Ivan Capelli
but keep in mind this thing isnt finished yet
ive been working on it for around an hour
Reason for Ferrari sacking he and Prost: They were threatening to leave anyway at different points of the season if Ferrari weren't competent in improving their gearbox's reliability to mount another championship battle
nope
not yet complete
if it were up to me he could retire anywhere between 1995-1999
1999 with a backmarker team though
Prost GP
maybe Minardi
Senna fulfills an old promise to family friend Giancarlo Minardi to end his career with them

love this car
alright finally finished my fictional career in #1022581160209035365
That’s a lot of wins and podiums and pole positions in only 11 years
Especially when it’s only 16 races a season
Better then Prost and Senna
Keke Rosberg on his way to win the 1985 Australian Grand Prix at Adelaide with the Williams FW10. The race would be his last Grand Prix win, and last fastest lap.

Uncle Jacques
i think its a bit sad that the only reason those photographers are all around him because his brother is Gilles
Gilles was practically the most popular driver that time
he died that season right?
in 1953?
he died in 1955 after doing a few races with the Lancia D50, that would be then sold to Ferrari and Fangio would win his 1956 title with that car
also, he finished his lace F1 race in the Monaco harbour.
1983 iirc
i think he unfortunately has cancer as of now
not dead though
1991 Interlagos
The day Senna lost all but 6th gear and still won the race

i really like this 95 Williams
the 1995 Williams was smooth
Looks clean
It was a pretty good car in it's heyday. I still prefer the Benetton B195 over this, though.
Damon Hill in the Brabham BT60B finishing in last place in his debut Grand Prix, 1992.
Bruce McLaren in his Red McLaren M4B during the Monaco Grand Prix, 1967.
and was its first debut!
The year Brabham called time on F1
Yup
when they came back in 89, they were proper fire
but theh never got enough money for a good engine i guess
At least the Yamaha V12's sounded great when they were used
the car was unreliable and Damon was not performing well until the last half of the season

jacques villeneuve - 1996 european gp
A rare clip of onboard footage from the Jordan Hart of Japan's Aguri Suzuki as he stood in for the banned Eddie Irvine during the first visit to the TI Aida circuit for F1's first ever Pacific Grand Prix
Rare onboard footage of Okayama
imagine if he won on debut
its even more impressive when you realize Jacques had literally 0 experience on most if not all those F1 tracks
and still managed to keep it a bit close with Damon
Jacques had so much potential then blew it up with BAR
does it say a lot about jacques, damon, the car?
i mean both arent to underestimate
Damon took advantage of the car atleast alongside Prost
which is much more than what his other teammates can say
and Jacques is a proven talent
when hes motivated anyways
he’s underrated i agree
and he probably lost his motivation when Pollock left BAR and was replaced by Richards
for sure
Pollock was the only reason he even was there to begin with
so with him gone combined with a mediocre car at the time he failed to adapt
Damon also improved heavily in 96
compared to 1995 where he really should have taken advantage of that Williams even if it was a bit unreliable

Can someone explain how miller cycles improve thermal efficiency
Max is close to that tbh
good question for #f1-technical !
This may be a dumb question but is this the same Oracle that sponsors Red Bull today, and if so what does the company do?
Oracle's an IT company
I mean cloud storage and stuff
I almost got a job offer there tho 😂
yes it’s the same!

Oracle owns Java
sadly
the urge to reply "ok and" 😄
DUDE
We do love Minecraft tho
i love java more than Minecraft
it's what pays my bills
Why?
Oracle has a bad reputation among open source people
Ah
luckily, Java is open source, and that's thanks to Sun, not Oracle
Sun?
Aren’t they out of business now
OH THEM
that's why they own Java now
I drew their logos a couple times oof
ye this weird square formed with S
ah ye
When kimi's Mclaren is classic now 💀
ah frentzen
decent career but should have had more chances with a contending team after Jordan
he Wendlinger and Schumacher were the posterchildren of the Mercedes Junior Academy
How close did any team get to a rotary engine?
+
Was the Williams CVT good?
The williams CVT would be dominant because it doesn't allow for gaps in engine power, and theoretically could be programmed with Traction/Launch Control
probably would have been super dominant
the only reason that teams before didnt venture into that was either they couldnt make successful or reliable CVT technology, or they just didnt have the money or the tech at that time
around 93
and why it was outlawed, too costly
Okay
yup that along with its unfair potential
it’s not unfair if everyone has it, like the sequential gearbox 😉
but the cost for everyone to develop theirs would have been too much

mika häkkinen - 1997 european gp
"Michael my friend, you hit the wrong part of him!"
If the Williams CVT was a thing for the season it wouldve been faster the the FW15C
I think the CVT ranked in two seconds faster at Silverstone with David Coultard
Thanks

honestly? just 1 point
and yeah 99 was a wild season
watch reviews of it if you can, well worth it
Oh it was just one? I might have mixed up a bit
he finished with a 2pt gap
Just the year 1999 was wild as a whole
but if he had 1 more, he would have been champion with Michael letting him past for the last race, with Mika winning
instead he would have tied for points, and Mika winning regardless because more wins
(doesn't take into account the fact that Michael was always the one who would have to be the first WDC for Ferrari in that era)
Mika won the last race yes? And where did Eddie finish? I forgot
1999 would've have been even more wild if Eddie became WDC for Ferrari before Michael
But yeah
lol Yea

Johnny Herbert's first Formula One victory came in the 1995 British Grand Prix, driving a Benetton B195.
The main rivalry was between Michael Schumacher of Benetton and Damon Hill of Williams, but the two drivers collided during heavy battling and were forced to retire. This sparked a fight between Mr. Herbert and David Coulthard, which Herbert eventually won after Mr. Coulthard received a stop-go penalty.

Great Seasons: Ayrton Senna 1993
What many connoisseurs considered to be the peak of Senna's powers, Ayrton Senna started off 1993 in the underpowered but nimble McLaren MP4/8 but had no chance against the more powerful and technologically developed Williams FW15C but yet still won 3 of the first 6 races with the other 3 to his rival Prost, with his legendary "Lap Of The Gods" at Donington and after his record 6th win at the Principality of Monaco, he was even in the lead of the championship, but after a poor string of retirements, strategic errors, or car issues he had fallen behind even Damon Hill after he took 3 consecutive wins, however with that Senna was absolutely driven and won the last 2 races of the year at Suzuka and Adelaide and infamously ended his feud with Prost and showed fans that he had a lot to offer for next year. He took 5 wins, 2 podiums, 1 pole position, and 1 fastest lap as he finished a distant 26 points behind Prost, but had proven to the world that he was now absolutely the best race driver.
Did McLaren or Benetton have the second best F1 car that year?
Well Benetton had the factory Ford engine
So im going to say Benetton
but I believe McLaren had slightly better chassis
Yeah I’d say 1992 was a better year for Benetton
1992 was a much bigger gap
the Honda was unreliable and at times slower than the Ford engines
yeah in 92
Yeah
