Bigger squads or multi-squad support is a legacy feature.

Battlefield has grown beyond being a game where you could play with a group of friends. Nobody has "groups" of friends anymore, just 1-2 friends. So squads of 4 are the perfect size given the doubling of the overall size of matches to 128 (except breakthrough)

i think theres fairly simple to implement solutions that make 8 man squad spawning not such an issue, including timers between spawns on a squadmate so that the whole squad can't just appear at once

generally people have crossplay enabled because it’s on by default and there’s not much reason to turn it off, so if you don’t have it enabled you will end up with longer wait times
