Directx 12 or Vulkan?
i put dx12 from reshade and vulkan in game idunno if its right
Use this
And set the game to vulkan
Install Reshade with Vulkan as well obviously
@flint crater with the new build shadow contrast is 42 by default
is that the optimal solution?
iirc 42 shadows is just what he prefers, because everything default crushed black a bit too much for his liking, could be wrong tho
game sdr is also crashed so not hard to believe
I personally run everything at 50, yes it crushes blacks and blows out highlights a bit but I always like to play as close to vanilla as possible
I like to play as close to Vanilla if it's not trash. Musa preset is night and day compare to purist
To each their own I guess, I like dark as fuck nights
Purist for screenshots. Musa for gameplay
Why this game still work in progress, I remember it being completed? Did rockstar release an update destroying the compatibility or something
its just not flawless yet
vulkan version could realistically be released right now though imo
Is there a reason to use any api other than vulkan? Its faster and more stable and have less stuttering
DX is soo bad last time I played
i think theres some mod releated stuff? im not 100% honestly
mods support maybe? idk
I guess it could be DX have better way to handle hdr better than vulkan š¤, because using dx while vulkan exists dosent make sense to me since vulkan are supported on both gpu vendors amd and nvidia i believe also arc supports it
dx was initially used because it was easier to make the reno mod with it, but Musa figured out how to make vulkan work(thank god), he said that vulkan in general is more finicky and he doesn't like to work on it but for this game it was basically necessary because of how bad it runs on dx12
Just wish I could run Vulkan HDR in borderless windowed instead of exclusive fullscreen
Alt enter when you tab back in
Yeah it is annoying asf though
yeah I've known about alt enter fot a while but it's annoying like you said hah
especially since i have runescape on the other monitor thay i gotta tab back into every 10 mins
Red Dead 2 demands your full attention. how dare you alt tab?
Playing RDR2 is a lifestyle
That's not a game, it's a belief
If you aren't wearing a cowboy hat and chewing tobacco at your desk, you can't say you're a rdr2 fan. Thems the rules
No you get tubercolosis
š
That'll do
MANY THANKS BUT I HAVE A QUESTION
when i use hdr should i play in fullscreen? because the hdr setting only appears in fullscreens
second should i put cinmatic hdr or game ?
exclusive fullscreen
Does not matter, renovk hijack game hdr setting, but on the safe side - set to game
Might be a dumb question, I am unsure if I installed it correctly. I can see that the visuals match SDR colours but itās hard to verify I installed correctly. I am usually pretty proficient. Should I be able to adjust sliders in real time or do I have to adjust settings and then reboot game for effect?
Press the home button(you might wanna change that btw since in rockstart games the home button opens up the rockstart overlay as well) to open reshade, in the top bar of the reshade menu there should be a tab called renodx, that's where all the sliders are for adjusting and tweaking
And yes it all happens in real time, no need to reboot the game
when I use renodx with vulkan.....optiscaler gui does not appear ingame what tot do
want to use fsr 4 with optiscaler
š
is there a renodx file for dx12?
Yes it's in the pinned, but it's no longer being worked on so your mileage may vary, and I remeber it being kinda finnicky, sometimes it crashed the game on startup for me sometimes it didn't, dx12 in rdr2 is pretty dogshit, lots of problems, graphical bugs as well and performance issues, but if you want to give it a shot it's right there
Yeah afaik it doesn't work for whatever reason, if you really want to try fsr 4, dx12 might be the only way, but considering how much better vulkan looks and performs I think vulkan with TAA is the best compromise, imo at least.
thnks
It really comes down to if you can stomach the TAA blurriness in motion, unfortunately for amd cards it's either renodx and TAA or no renodx and fsr4
wait scratch that, I think opti on vulkan might not work even without reshade installed
my bad
Idk I personally don't have a amd card so I haven't fiddle with it much
Hmm really interesting. Already did swap the Home key as well.
For whatever reason itās not changing in real time. Might have a play with it.
Are you changing the sliders in the reno tab of reshade?
Do you have any visual mods installed? Is hdr enabled in game?
How do I know if this is working
I see renodx in reshade but I don't seem to see preset sliders
Ok I got it working what preset do you all use?
and for peak brightness do I set that to the value of max nits google says?
it's your monitors peak brightness
What about paper white I have aw3225qf
I notice 3 presets in the RD2 1 , 2 or 3 what do you use?
they're all the same by default, they just let you change settings yourself and have them on different presets. default settings should be fine, in the end its personal preference, you can mess with the sliders to see what they do and can always reset them
You play GTA V Enachnced at all?
This mod makes things look a tad dark maybe
example?
I will have to grab in AM
What other mods do you all like for total amazing look I have RTX 5090
and Alienware 240hz oled
Hey mate, yeah changing sliders in the Reno tab. Iāve used heaps of Reno mods before, just for whatever reason this one isnāt cooperating. Itās a completely fresh game - no mods, no nothing.
Hey, where can I find the Vulkan version download for RenoDX HDR? Iām using RDR2 and canāt seem to locate it. Thanks!
pinned
Can you take a couple of screenshots with the Reno menu visible and like shadows 0 vs shadows 100?
Can do!
Whatās the best settings to use ? Or just use default ?
default
with peak brightness according to display
and game brightness according to room light and needs
If 50 is crushing and 43 seems to be ideal why is 43 not 50 ?
Haha Iāve made no change apart from reinstalling the game fresh and it works now. Good ol switch on and off again and it works. Appreciate the advice my friend. All the best
This is one of the biggest renodx upgrades I have seen tbh. The native HDR is that awful
I am not sure there is a worse native HDR than RDR2
makes me even more sad that sony is stopping PC ports, we are stuck with whatever HDR they do. Thankfully most of their out of the box HDR is good. A few standout bad ones: both god of wars, horizon zero dawn before the remastered upgrade
the ue games that skip the color grading entirely
@flint crater sent u my 4th Support for this Mod, thank u ā¤ļø
This mod delete the in game HDR ?
More overwrite than delete but basically yes
Game always start in windows boardless no matter how many times I hit full screen and quit
alt+enter does not put you in fullscreen?
ya seems hdr goes back and forth when I do that
Is HDR enabled in windows?
So when you start the game it's always in borderless, and when you change it to fullscreen and apply does it stay in fullscren?
Do you have any other mods installed?
no
Have you tried disabling generic depth and effect runtime sync addons in the ReShade add-ons tab?
Oh and btw are you using dx12 or vulkan?
Does renodx or Reshade work in linux
don't think vulkan reshade works with linux
someone else tried with doom and couldn't get it to work
Dx12 work though?
the dx12 version was never finished
its way too buggy
dx12 is broken as shit in this game
ok
wait does dx12 work for the reshader on rdr2 or no? cause I need to use dx12 cause of optiscaler
Why would u use optic Scaler for RDR2?
opti can work in vulkan
with dlss inputs
check their wiki
Should nights be this bright in this game with HDR on and the renodx mod?
Like i think they are too bright ngl
Try with the purist preset, the default one raises shadows
Whats a purist preset
No clue what ur talking ab
If u mean lowering shadows slide bar i did that
Doesnt really help, only lowering game brightness helps
But it feels like sth is wrong with the light in general
I changed it from 203 to 150 and its better
At the bottom of renodx tab there are two buttons: reset and purist. Press purist one
Thats the preset
Dont see it
@maiden belfry
#1413570163789266954 message i have one from here tho, the one based on vulcan
Possibly i did sth wrong setting it up tho
I will swap the files just in case then
That looks like the old build, maybe you forgot to change the file, try again putting the release candidate 2 in the game folder
I got oled monitor so i assumed i shouldn't have used the purist tho
Aight will do later
Purist is just to match the visual characteristics of the SDR image, things like colors, black level etc, while still having HDR peak brightness, the default preset is just what Musa prefers, what looks the best to him
am i doing something wrong?
i installed everything but the game for me is very dark with renodx, even cutscene sometimes are closely just black
i havent done any settings yet so im using the preset 1 like it was when i installe dit
You will have to adjust brightness settings to your display's capabilities
i tried but somehow it looks to dark or the bright parts are too bright when i adjust it
if you can could you share me your settings?
maybe i have to switch to vanilla lut encoding if i dont magae it
I might be wrong or something is wrong with my setup of this mod, but isn't musa defaults have raised blacks or something š¤
Am gonna check purist setting too lets see if that does anything
Also i dont think defaults represent musa taste or what he likes i have alot of mods setup by musa and all looks awesome "objectively"
Defaults are closer what I like
Purist setting is what it originally looked like
So purist is correct if thatās what you want
Just to be clear is defaults have higher blacks ?
yes
Does "vulkan reshade" a different version of regular reshade addon on their main site ?
Or all the same
No you just select vulkan in the installer
I thought i need to use renovk or something,
I need to use Direct 12 for Fg, but is there a Direct 12 version? Renodx HDR
Itās pinned :)
Oh, my!! Why did I feel like I only had a Vulcan version!
Thank you!
Is there a reason to use Vulkan version over dx12?
dx version never worked for me
seem to remember a lot of mods that only worked with vulkan too
seen people say vulkan version runs better too I haven't tested though
seems pretty significant looking at comparison videos online
as much as 30% better performance
A lot of stuff is just weirdly broken on DX. Some visual settings cause artifacts and the day/night cycle is completely broken
Transition happens in like 5 seconds lmao
The most significant difference in performance imo is that dx stutters while vulkan is smooth as butter, especially with the stutter fix mod
Can u link me to this mod
Usually these stutter fix mods are placebo but this seems to actually work, I've tested it and it does indeed seem to do what it promises
oh ic alr
dont forget that RDR2 dont even boot properly for a lot of people with DX12
ive always had out of memory errors with dx12
64gb ram and 32gb vram lmao
and the fact that vulkan is just so much smoother really dont give me any real reason to try to use dx12
Do you have improvements numbers? In terms of the lows and avg fps
this fucking game...
the lighting and everything is just god tier
looks so unbelievably good for a 2018 game
I've played death strading 2 recently, a 2025 game, and aside from the characters models I don't think it looks better
If you remove the lighting from rdr2 you can definitely notice assets/models looking very dated (characters especially)
but the lighting, volumetric clouds, fog and all that schenanigans is very well done
it really amplifies the whole picture
@flint crater is there a reason why shadow contrast is set to 42 on default with preset 1 in color grading? It makes the nights stupidly bright as if it was middle of the day kind of bright
And in the same time, i like it during the day
Kinda annoys me to constantly switch between diff values
Defaults are his preferred look for the game, purist is the accurate one, which has darker shadows matching SDR
Purist one is still too bright i had to crank up the shadow contrast to around 62 during night and lower brightness from 203 to 185 for me to feel like nights look good
But during the day i swap, kinda annoys me, but i got used to it
Your monitor can influence the outcome keep that in mind, but purist is the one that matches SDR and SDR is universally considered the "intended" way the game is supposed to look.
@flint crater I was wondering something, how exactly do you find the matching settings for the purist preset? Is it super technical behind the scenes or do you mostly go by eye? For example is the reason highlights are at 42 and not 43 or 41 or any other number purely "mathematical" or did you play with sliders by eye until it matched sdr as much as possible?
42 was just eyeballed to look right
Is there anything to be done with the aggressive shadow culling on the sides of the screen?
there's mods that claim to fix it, but pretty sure they're just disabling screen space shadows outright
never bothered with them, so I can't say for certain
Set far shadows to low
They are in screen space, there's no fixing them
The game still has shadows on the distant objects even on low, there just low precision shadow maps
But they get the job done
Why I can't find the file of this mod
This?
Hi all, thanks for the mod. I started using renodx for the first time because of rdr2 but both the default and the purist presets look incredibly blown out. This is fixed if I switch the tone mapper to SDR but then it just looks like the native cinematic HDR implementation I think?
I have an LG C3 and I set the peak brightness correctly. What could I be doing wrong?
Resetting the in-game HDR calibration and restarting the game fixed this now.
Do I need to set the peak brightness in game setting too? Or just in renodx?
Only in renodx. And can set mode for whatever
It shouldn't matter, but just in case it does use game
Thank you
for this mod should in game settings be set to HDR at default settings?
just make sure HDR is enabled and brightness in SDR is set to default values
the sdr brightness slider affecting stuff should be fixed now
it was still in the notes so I thought it was still relevant, good to know it's fixed
ya I copied and pasted from the previous one
so if my adhd ass wants to play this in windowed mode, ill need the dx12 version?
I think so yes. I know hdr works in borderless on dx12. Idk about windowed though
yeah, borderless. windowed is psychotic when borderless exists.
then yh dx12. Idk maybe display commander might help if youre trying to play vulkan borderless
Not possible, i think
itās super bugged out
Rip
@topaz fog
Hi All, i could do with a little help. I'm runinng RenoDX along with some mods, the visual mods are whyems visual mod, dynamic seasons and season manager. During testing everything was fine and the image looked like the first pic and i was happy. Then starting the game from the beginning and on the wagon to horse shoe overlook the game crashed. When i started it back up it looked like the second pic. I turned RenoDX off and the problem went away so i uninstalled and then reinstalled RenoDX, cleared shader cache all that good stuff but the problem persists with it, any idea what it could be? I turn RenoDX off and the problem goes away so idk if something has been corrupted? Any help is appreciated
someone else had the same problem
it was some conflict with one of the graphics mods
maybe whyem
whyems visual mod says it makes changes to hdr
Tone map expanded for a wider range of colors (HDR exclusive)
Luminance per channel to complement the expanded color range
that doesn't even make sense
no idea what that's doing
I gotcha, yeah its really weird because everything was fine, it crashed then boom, issues. I'll scroll up to see what i can find and do some research on the mod as well, mayjust have to pick one or the other
Idk, maybe all who needed it already figured it out, but if you trying to install Optisclaler with Vulkan and game crashes, problem for me was enabled interface and overlay in ScriptHookConfig.ini. Also UI for Optiscaler didnt show up even in borderless, so I've just enabled FG in Optiscaler's config and changed it to XeFG, and it seems to work. Capping with DC also works
Yo guys, I kinda fucked up, could someone help me? I wanted to check something without HDR and in the process I ruined something
The game wasn't starting at all, so I figured I must have fucked something up with ReShade/RenoDX, so I reinstalled ReShade and put the RenoDX file again, but game won't start :(
I have no clue what to do
i fixed it
@flint crater Sorry to bother you (again) but is there a reason why the lightning is so much different when I enter camp (chapter 2 still) vs when I step outside the camp? Mainly at night. It's like, in the camp it's how its supposed to be, then I step little outside and the moon turns into the freaking lightbulb, I got used to it. I danced around presets and other things, but I cannot get it to look like it looks at camp at all times during the night. Is it something to do with the mod?
no idea
do the sliders work
unless it looks horrifically fucked up then it might just be something with the game's lighting in general
yeah, I mean they change things, but its basically like the moment I am within camp bounds, its like different lightning starts working
I will try to record it, coz screenshots kinda dont show it
does this include the slider at the bottom for lut encoding
see if that slider breaks
aight lemme see
the lut encoding only changes how light looks, from a slight blue tint/stronger colors to warmer, but the switch between light still happens
the game has some weird lighting transitions so I guess that's not related to the mod
like dx12 has some bugs with sunsets being broken
and lighting changing immediately
it'll go from afternoon to night in a second
yeah prob, i mean tbh im not complaining, i got used to it and the game looks absolutely briliant with ur mod, but i was wondering why it happens
ig it just is this way
maybe game forces the diff lightning for the camp specifically for "vibe/mood" purposes
so it looks exactly like authors intended or sth
idk
well if it happens even when the preset is set to off then it's probably not the mod
\aight, ill try to record it somehow just to show u exactly
holy cow I did not know you got it working with Vulkan, doing the Lord's work š«”
@flint crater Was there issues with dx12 since you changed the mod to vulkan? I played up until Rhodes a few months ago with the dx12 version.
@flint crater besides brightness (and gamma correction since system level HDR is enabled?), is the SDR tonemapper option effectively the same as toggling HDR off in-game, or is Reno still doing anything else? Really neat for on the fly comparisons
vanilla / purist / SDR tonemapper
for the most part
certain effects that look different like eagle eye / dead eye still appear as they would in hdr
Do you think this game would benefit from one of the sharpening solution in other Reno mods or would it look wrong? I still find the game quite blurry even with DLSS 4.5 lol
admittedly it is so much better with transformer model though
I don't think that a game that relies on dithering as much as RDR2 actually will benefit from any sort of extra sharpening. That's why preset M looks worse on tree branches than preset K
I think you're right, game is so brutally reliant on TAA
Luma for rdr2š
Musa, are planning to add Psycho to rdr2?
What games that uses psycho ?
Ue extended uses it, some versions of From Software games mod were using it (idk if final one uses it)
Also AFAIK Crimson Desert, Death Stranding 2 and Cyberpunk 2077
looks really washed out
nvm might be hdr screenshots are weird on my phone
yeah, need to click on them for them to load properly on the phone app
Hi, what mods do you recommend for a first run of the game?
for the mod what addons and effects do I have to install through reshade?
I would just start playing the game vanilla, and if there's anything that bothers you or you want a QOL tweak then look at mods
none
No one asked but: I first played this game on a 1080p potato screen and 50fps 5 years ago rushing the story and not paying attention. Now on my 2nd run taking it slow, experiencing it all with a fresh mind and first time in 4k HDR. Just been playing on and off in between new releases this year. The beauty of the woods and open fields etc. is undeniably great, but I just got to Saint Denis during nighttime yesterday and genuinely couldnāt believe my eyes. One of the greatest HDR showcases Iāve seen. RDR2 was already in my top 5 oat time but now its looking like a fav game ever candidate. Idk the point of this wall of text just want to say thank you rockstar and thank you for the mod my goat @flint crater You are my lord and saviorš
Now Iām gonna need rockstar to stop playing around and give us GTA 6 on pc this year too (never happening
)
relatable
rdr2 on 1080p looks horrendous
tried so hard fiddling with reshade and graphics mods for weeks to alleviate the dogwater taa implementation to no avail
now ive got the hardware to run it on 4k and it is just stunning
especially with dlaa
whats the best graphics mods for rd2?
i already have dlss upgraded to the latest version and use dlaa
along with renodx hdr
trying to squeeze the most out of my 5080 at 1440p
Almost none that don't make it more cartoony or stylized
I can think of two that actually enhances the realism
which is wow that's beautiful and renewal
if you want mods that actually strain your pc though, i can recommend xtreme grass, that mod tanks your fps heavily in high vegetation areas
no i just want the game to look the best it can š
i remember playing it for the first time on a 1050 laptop
well that mod does improve the visuals
gotcha
ill check it out then
how do i configure renodx for rdr2?
open the reshade menu and go to the renodx tab on the top right
yeah i got that
but out of the box settings should be good right?
or do i change stuff
like gama
and other sliders
its all on your preference
if you want as close to sdr as possible click the purist option
or as close to what the developers intended
wow thats beautiful is what I use. Doesn't stray too far from vanilla look and plays nicely with reno. Renewal is quite nice, but id recommend only using it in sdr. I remember some weathers looking borked in hdr
never had any sort of issue with that
the reason i prefer renewal more is its assortment of bug fixes
like the white rain notably
and the author claims its ssao feature is pretty much the same as what ftb does, alledgedly
Its nice as an aio. But I prefer getting the fixes individually and merging myself
fair enough
Renewal is probably my fave of the visual overhaul mods out there. But idk im just a sucker for the vanilla look. RDR2 is one of the few games I've played where I feel like I could pause randomly and get a desktop wallpaper looking screenshot
The game just throws picturesque vistas at you
whyem's particles mod is great
yep
mine are a bit mediocre overall but the lighting in them look fantastic
this was before i got renodx though
do I change the peak brightness to the monitors brightness?
I have the new aoc oled and it could only do 400 nigs
True, can't play anymore without it
probably
The shot of arthur above the train tunnel is so cold
I pray gta 6 goes for a more cinematic approach like rdr2. give me a campaign I give a shit about
nits
bruh
I mean oleds are indeed known for their blacks after all...
No no I relate, I kinda rushed my playthrough too, on a crap 1440P LCD monitor, but I booted it up recently to try this mod and I also was STUNNED at how great the game looks at night in HDR especially in Saint Dennis and civilized areas in general, also now on a 4K QD OLED with DLSS preset L helps but I feel like Musa's mod is doing serious heavy lifting, feels like I can reach out and touch it
Quickdraw mod
I would advice against running gameplay changing mods for a first run, imo the first run should be as vanilla as possible, the way the devs intended the game to be played.
It just allows you to fire fast from the hip
Can't you do that already? At least on controller
I know but the devs designed the shooting to have that friction, removing it is not true to their intent imo. But to each their own
I think it works the same way on PC by default, the draw'll be faster with the mod I guess.
Except I'm not sure if you can hold the gun aiming from your hip without actually shooting it with m&k like you can with a controller, but that's a seperate thing.
Is it safe to play online with the reshade active?
single player only. You may be able to use this with redm though. Havent checked myself
Is there any reason on why this mod is still not available on github or nexus?
Still in testing
I did a full playthrough with it and it seems ready, but Musa is the boss
guess it can be added to github
@flint crater are there any plans to switch this mod to psycho?
ya maybe in may
lower highlights
yeah but is it just like that in sdr
sdr is more blown out
Do you guys think I should use the newer DLSS 4.5 with this rockig a RTX 5090
ok
I am asking a question
Personal preference bro. I think dlss 4 (k) is the best fit. I don't like how 4.5 handles foliage
regular taa 100% scale
yeah, I just use regular TAA as well, but I disabled in-game sharpening and use Lilium's RCAS at its default values instead
also, this is absolutely my favourite Reno mod š
Was this response for me?
Do you guys use any shaders mods?
TAA in motion is blurry as well, why that over DLSS?
I had issues with dlss in dx12, idk if its any better in vulkan
but from what I played taa 100% at 4k looked pretty good
Only thing TAA seems to be slightly better in vulkan is some foliage, but even then I don't think it's enough to get over the blurriness, DLSS 4 looks crystal clear in comparison
Oh and TAA does cover some elements that dlss doesn't, some effects during eagle/dead eye, they look pixelated with DLSS/DLAA but not TAA
I would still use DLSS(DLAA) though, the pros are just more substantial imo
on the old Dlss right?
I personally think dlss 4.5 look better than dlss 4.0 on rdr2
But cost much more fps
Yeah dlss 4 preset k. You will want to enable auto exposure using dlsstweaks though
Ok what does that do?
cleans up some artefacts around hair and it reduces ghosting(even tho in rdr2 ghosting is already pretty minimal)
You'll get white flickering with dlss/aa active without it
How to do that ?
Set dlss settings to defaults in nvidia app. Then download dlsstweaks from here: https://github.com/emoose/DLSSTweaks/releases/tag/0.310.5.0https://github.com/emoose/DLSSTweaks/releases/tag/0.310.5.0 and install into your game directory. then configure dlss settings in dlss tweaks to what you want. make sure auto exposure is enabled.
is it recommended for every game or only rdr2 ?
you can use for all games with dlss 2+ to swap out to newer presets. Its useful for games that need auto exposure enabled with the newer presets

My personal dlsstweaks setup for rdr2 is to set ultra quality dlss to operate at 100% res (dlaa). You can leave the other quality values at their defaults. And then auto exposure enabled.
All quality levels using preset k
Ok, i will try it tomorrow thanks for the advice
Any reshade mods you use?
or any other mods?
All you need is Reno, game is great as is
Upgrade DLSS, use preset L or K or something, will be fine
you have no idea how shit the fire effects look in taa
not to mention the shimmering on fences and such
hello im just new here, can someone share the mod link?
In pin
thanks bro
nope just reno.
some mods to fix epilogue john, some model and bug fixes, and a mod to push out lod further
catalogue improvements?
catalogue improvements, the outlaws return, and gunslinger improvements
Good man
Hi, Is there any reason Vignette is at 100 both the default settings? Usually Vignette along with motion blur is something I turn off first in games.
Because they are defaults in the vanilla game, if you don't like it just set vignette to 0
Ok cool. Just wanted to make sure it has nothing to do with having better contrast or something.
No it's just the modder's preference to keeps those type of effects as close to vanilla as possible since devs deliberately included them
am I stupid if I dont get the reshade popup at all when opening rdr2? Im using the installer app for reference
my game is in vulkan in advanced settings
can't get the HDR option in graphics settings to show in Vulkan no matter what i try ;_;
doesn't show reshade menu when you hit Home?
yeah even if i remap it
i dont get the like top bar that's always like "reshade version whatever"
seems like it's not launching
my only guess is that it might be badly interacting with scripthook or dinput8 or something but im not sure
v2
check scripthookrdr2.log
mine shows
[17:29:14] Build: Tue Jul 16 14:38:59 2024 Version: 1.9 Tester
[22:30:43] Build: Tue Jul 16 14:38:59 2024 Version: 1.9 Tester
can't be that then š
Wait do I need script hook to run this mod?
im not using it and still see the renodx in game
Renodx don't require
Only reshade, make sure you have fullscreen and vulkan turned on, as well as hdr in gsme and hdr in windows
Dont use rtx hdr or auto hdr either
And configure ur hdr on windows and game too
And just know that alt tabbing turns to windows borderless and vulkan stops working
alt enter to get back into fullscreen after alt tabbing
why doesnt it show up?
Have you got reshade installed for Vulkan? Have you got exclusive full screen and HDR on in game?
Everything
It just doesnt
show up
I reinstalled reshade and renodx like 5 times
No clue then. Double check your game is actually using Vulkan as the api
I did. Nothing
Rip. Do you get any reshade message/UI when you launch the game?
Yeah but no renodx tab
It also looks greenish
Add-on is in game root folder?
Yeah
When you check add-ons in reshade UI, is Reno DX active/present?
I dont think so
Im reinstalling it again
I mean there should be 2 default add-ons in the list. A depth buffer and something else. Then Reno should be there beneath the 2 default
Install latest reshade with addon
Select vulkan
Copy renodx addon
In game setting vulkan
As if i havent tried that
I finally got it working
what was your issue?
Iām not really sure.. I just wiped my reshade folders and reinstalled everything
hey guys whatsup , new user here. Can i adjust the peak nits for renodx while in game ? i ask because my game hard freezed when i tweaked it a bit and i had to task manager close. Looks great otherwise, i went to 800 nits cause i think thats what my monitor cap is. (or should i keep it at the default 1000)
Preset K, or forces DLAA/Ultra Quality is best for me. DLSS 4.0 as only preset M and L are 4.5 I believe
K is great, game is pretty heavy still so I use balanced at 4K, nice lil perf boost while still loking good
I would use the Windows HDR Calibration tool to find you peak nits, most Reno mods will detect that (in my experience) if you reset the peak brightness in the mod settings.
I used it to find 750-800 actually i remember , but then i change it in the mod right? Using the slider. (It was at 1000 then i turned it down to 800.)
Yep that's it, it likely just defaulted to 1000
where at the rdr2 folder i put the addon in?
Where exe is
thank you
I put in the game folder but when i start the game and open reshade it doesnt show me the renodx
Install reshade with addon - select vulkan during installation
In game also set vulkan
Uninstall reshade if installed with directx
any new update ?
"abandoned" should give you the answer
Hey should i be using console mode HDR(HGiG) or not on my monitor ? Its asus xg27aqdmg
Should i use Peak 1000 or TB400?
Up to you bro. Musa would say tb400 but try both and figure out what you like
Alright
highlights are so shit in this game bro
turn it down by 10 everything looks washed out
keep it default there's just a blob of white light where the sun is
Try lowering paper white if your surrounding conditions allow. For me it fixed it a bit
Thx for your video btw
would suggest using it
Is it possible to fake full screen somehow and use vulkan renodx?
Just gotta hit alt+enter to re enter fullscreen whenever u alt tab
Despite previously working, now without changing anything I'm aware of Reshade (w/ or w/o the RenoDX file) is crashing my RDR2 when run in Vulkan.
Any advice on getting it working? Crashes immediately, only getting a second or two of black screen. RDR2 logs show no crash info
nuclear option: reinstall the mofo
Tried with a fresh install on a different drive to no avail, was there something about renaming one of the .dll files? Can't find the post I'm thinking of now w/search
What dll?
Pretty sure I was misremembering that from installing the DLSS Fix to GTAV so disregard
Oddly though, even though the config file "system.xml" shows the API is set to Vulkan, the game setting menu always displays "DX12" when starting the game w/Reshade uninstalled. Tried defaulting settings and restarting, setting config to read-only, etc.
I remember the game crashing randomly with reno when set to dx12 so it's likely that, If you set the game to vulkan does it stay on vulkan?
I don't know what API it's actually using, since on every launch the settings menu displays "DirectX 12" for the API no matter what option I selected before restarting. Like I said though, the system.xml config file displays Vulkan for the API but in-game still displays DX12 even with that set to read-only
So IDK which it is actually launching with
I did try DX install of Reshade and that crashed too, but with an actual error popup
If the game says dx12 in the settings then it's dx12, why it doesn't save after you change it to vulkan is the bigger more important mistery
Why would I trust the glitchy in-game menus over the config file?
Because every symptoms you have point towards it being dx12 and not vulkan, but there is an easy way to find out, iirc the reflex setting doesn't actually work with vulkan, so if you set the game for example at a 60hz vsync with reflex on and the fps show 60fps then it's vulkan, if it's 57 fps or something similar then reflex is working and it's dx12
After deleting system.xml and starting game:
<advancedGraphics> <API>kSettingAPI_DX12</API>
After switching in-game setting to Vulkan, saving and closing game:
<advancedGraphics> <API>kSettingAPI_Vulkan</API>
Plus the same RenoDX build was working properly just recently, and I didn't change API
Only potential change I can think of is latest Nvidia drivers, but I don't remember if I've played RDR2 w/RDX and had it working since then (April 16th latest driver release)
Might give DDU and a rollback a try now that I think of it
Can't hurt
Might fix the game hard locking to dx12 for whatever reason
If you don't want to go through tha hassle of DDU you might try to just reinstall the driver and reset all the driver settings to default
Perhaps it's not "locked" to it or ignoring the settings but for some reason falling back when Vulkan fails to launch properly? I ran into a few threads of people having issues with Vulkan in RDR2 due to registrys left by program they had long since deleted
Could be, I say try reinstalling the driver and see if that fixes it
Can someone give a list of recommended graphics mods for fixing LOD and stuff like that
i mean
renewal i guess
it has a bit of bug fixes merged into it
https://www.nexusmods.com/reddeadredemption2/mods/3751 this should be enough. The other mod is way more FPS hungry for little visual return imo
Use in conjunction with the graphical issues fixes mod by this author. If you need help with the install/merge, you can DM me
I experience no fps loss with or without it
Not renewal. The other lod mod
https://www.nexusmods.com/reddeadredemption2/mods/3095 this is the other lod mod. This one nukes FPS in my experience
im aware
they still do different things
I've tried this mod but it doesn't seem to do anything, I've even gone to the place of the gif example and my game looks like the "after" both with and without the mod
I managed to get it working, but boy does it tank my fps, it went from 100 to 70-80 for very minimal visual gain
ILD for details IGL for geometry scale you can absolutely run both together if your hardware allows it
ILD has the most noticeable graphical impact
igl only helps pop in
iirc
Thatās one of the result behind improving geometry scale
igl is the one I used, still shaved off a good 20fps, imo it's not worth it, rdr2 already has very minimal pop in imo
it depends on areas tbh and it is more noticeable horse riding
I must have played rdr2 a dozen times at this point, I personally never thought to myself "man this pop in is really distracting", but I guess some people are more sensitive to it than others, it never bothetered me, and I would rather play with 20% more performance than such a marginal visual improvement
u know the more you mod the game the most u start noticing small things and issues
it never ends
so u are lucky and I advice u to not āunlockā new issues cause u are not gonna be satisfied
it has been years that I mod and play Cyberpunk and RDR2
70% of the time Iām just testing mods
Oh I'm well aware, I've just developed the restraint over the years of saying "good enough" and actually play the game, my time of spending hours and hours min maxing every little aspect of a game are behind me, such a waste of time
My philosophy is: if it's good enough for the devs to show in a trailer it's good enough for me
itās the healthy one!
Iām more like: i stop at my GPU melting hammered by the level of details at screen
š
I like my fps too much to do that
first time playing the game ever, looks absolutely great with the mod
feels natural while keeping the look it was intended to have id say
If you use multiple mods that create same config file, do you have to do anything else to make sure it works?
There are like tons of comments saying this mod breaks this or that
if there are mods that write to the same file, you will have to merge them
Which Vulkan version are you using? I'm on 1.4.325, and when I switch to Vulkan I can't get into the game at all (I haven't installed any mods, it's a clean copy). The game crashes immediately with no pop-up or error message.
After searching online, others said to downgrade the Vulkan version to 1.3.204.1, which is already an old 2022 release! I want to knowāhaven't any of you encountered this issue?
i've heard the opposite, know someone who's game crashes if ran with dx12
pretty weird
steam or rockstar launcher? I've found that I must launch rockstar games launcher as admin for the game to start
After hours of troubleshooting this seems to be my issue as well, but confusingly it didn't appear until recently. I assumed the Nvidia driver update on the 16th was the cause, but a downgrade to the previous version didn't change anything. I tried that full clean driver install, deleting Vulkan runtimes, clearing VK registry entries and installing older (said to be compatible with RDR2) VK runtimes, etc. to no avail. Simply cannot run the game in Vulkan at all, it reverts to DX12 on a clean install and consequently crashes with Reshade for VK installed.
Completely a guess but I'm wondering if Windows updates might be to blame, and/or some other Vulkan file that I haven't cleared causing some incompatibility.
Bro, I've already fixed it ā it turned out to be an issue with the VK registry entries. I ran vulkaninfo in PowerShell, scrolled down a bit to find "Layers: count", and then uninstalled some of the software.
When I searched online, I saw someone report that screen-recording software like Bandicam can also cause crashes, and I happened to have OBS and FPS Monitor in my Layers, so after uninstalling them I was able to successfully get into the game
To sum up, hereās what I did:
- Downgraded the Vulkan version (but it didnāt seem to work, and the game still crashes).
- Uninstalled OBS and FPSMonitor (this worked).
Iām not sure whether FPSMonitor or OBS is the culprit, but I suspect itās OBS. Iāve seen other users report issues with software like Twitch, Bandicam and Action! ā all of which come with recording features.
If you enter the vulkaninfo command in PowerShell, you can find these programs listed under Layers: count. Uninstalling them allows the game to launch normally.
At least it works for me.
bro has been in the trenches
What type of FPSmonitor you using š¤
I already tried all that, and the only change was getting this instead of it reverting to DX12 or crashing before title roll if I had Reshade VK installed:
Should there be a RenoDx window in Reshade/
yes in the reshade ui
Just exit and re launch the game , works for me ( have the same prob )
Pretty outrageous to assume I only tried launching the game 1 time lmao
anyone ever figure out a way to have hdr working in borderless windowed mode? or at least, a way for the game to not exit fullscreen mode whenever alt tabbing?
Don't think they could ever fix it in DC or relimiter
last i checked atleast it has been a little while tho so maybe
I mean thereās other vulkan games it works on
Nah i tried for hours and couldn't get it to work properly
Hi. I'm new here. May I ask if I should enable HDR10 Plus support option with RenoDX on RDR2?
I read HDR option should be enabled but I don't know if I should enable HDR10 Plus option.
just hdr10
No it's useless on all games
Okay then. Thanks for replies.
Renodx made the Visuals soooooo much better thanks Musa!

Hi there, where can I get the most recent snapshot?
Greetings, where can I download the snapshot. Iām having trouble finding the pins. I donāt really use discord often at all.
Wait nvm guys I found it. Looks pretty damn good on my qd oled monitor musa youāre a beast
Quick question do I keep in game hdr on?
Yes
hi. I just installed it for the first time. Played for a few hrs, then randomly while i was just hunting in the wild, this crashed the game FPS to like 9-10 or something. Reshade, and everything was extremely slow. Had to disable it by turning the Preset 1 to Default, then turned my DLSS from Balanced to perf & back again and that fixed it. Weird bug or something.
DIdn't happen for another hr or so after that till i closed it.
PC Specs: 4K, 32GB DDR5 RAM, gen 5 ssd, 4070ti super. Playing on 4k Ultra with Balanced DLSS. Never happened before.
is the generic depth and other default addon disabled in reshade? they can take some perf
@white oysteryes, they were disabled, and then I restarted the game before i started playing. I do have some mods installed though, but the mods alone have never caused any issues whatsoever. This only happened after the reshade. This is the list of mods installed.
hdr on or off ingame for the most recent vulkan snapshot?
am getting lots of flickering
and have hdr on
have the other addons disabled
Hdr on
also only getting 50fps with a 5080??? perhaps there's some settings issue
the flickering doesn't show in the video recording
meaning install the vulkan addon? i have done that
And the game is in full screen
and the reshade installed is 6.7.3 vulkan š
why is it necessary to disable the generic depth and effect runtime sync addons for reno to work? what if i i'm using a reshade effect that requires the use of the depth addon?
it isnt necessary
i see, then why is it advised to do so?
Because for most people these effects are useless, and in some cases eat up performance
If you don't need, just disable it and less thing can potentially go wrong
i see, thanks for all the answers!
Iirc the 2 stock add-ons eat up performance in dx12
hey is this mod out yet?
