max energy can only be permanently increased via stardrops, which are just scattered around the game through stuff like the Autumn Fair

There are things called StarDrops that permanently increases it

So yes keeping it isn't a bad idea

But using it isn't the end of the world

try to take it one step at a time, as in start off slow and go fish in places that can yield higher quality fish cause those give more xp and when you level up you'll find it easier. also, you can buy trout soup from willy before going fishing as eating it will make the green bar a bit bigger. I recommend the mountain lake, either outside the mine entrance or at the bottom where the giant log is (you level up faster by catching carps that barely even move there)
