It expands the size of your fishing bar so much and helps you get past the first few levels which are the absolute worst

you can also eat e.g. sea jelly to help temporarily boost ur fishing level to make the bar bigger

you can also complete community center by buying the fish - they sometimes show up at the traveling cart at cindersap forest (fridays, sundays 6am to 8pm

yeah i did figure you were new, training rod that was suggested would likely be the best starting point, the alternative non-fishing methods i mentioned are also newbie friendly (crab pot bundles are behind level 3 fishing and can be completed just by foraging on the beach, as well as killing rock crabs in the mines, and fish ponds are not super expensive), nothing to do with winter per se haha

Depends; I’ll list the pros and cons

You need to harvest mushrooms every single day but if you do so they are technically more profitable, and they come with a free dehydrator

Fruit bats you can leave for like an entire season and they’ll still produce, plus they’re good for community centre completion but still not technically as profitable as mushrooms. I prefer them as well because you can decorate the fruit bats cave a lot better later on in the game
