fill your pockets with things, including 1 gold crop of your choice e.g. parsnips
harvest, so you'll only get the gold crops
then the next day, do the same thing and harvest again, the gold crops are random for each day

if you are level 6, you can buy an iridium rod from willy and use e.g. a trap bobber to slow fish from escaping
otherwise, eating foods that give temporary fishing buffs can help, e.g. trout soup - higher the level, bigger your bar size

there are alternative ways to increase your fishing exp as well, e.g. fish ponds, crabpots, or reading fishing books (just that they are much slower than fishing directly) if you need a bit of help levelling up
