as you catch more fish, you gain experience and level up eventually. at higher levels, fishing becomes easier because you get a bigger bar.

i suggest buying a training rod at 25g (from willy's shop) because it can help you get used to the mini-game.

if you are still having some trouble and just don't want to do fishing at all, if you've not hit level 1 by end of spring (and have picked up the bamboo rod from willy), u will gain a free fishing level at the end of the season. you can also buy trout soup from willy as it can increase ur fishing level temporarily (hence bigger bar size).

if you are in spring, fish at the mountain lake for exp - you can get carps and bullheads there, they are easier and can help you accumulate exp
when raining, you can fish at the river for catfish but because they are tricky to catch i don't recommend them for u now

fiberglass rod is available at level 2 onwards for sale, 1.8k, it's a very worthy investment because bait is gamechanging in terms of fish bite rate which in other words, speeds up your levelling process, higher levels bigger bars

foods to eat to help with fishing, e.g. sea jelly, trout soup from willy (he always sells it)

last but not least, if you decide that you don't want to fish ever again, there are 3 other ways for you to level up fishing - though some might be slower than others. e.g. by completing the crab pot bundle in cc, you can get 3 free crab pots - this doesn't require fishing. or you can read the 'bait and bobber' skill book, and u can get this book by buying from bookseller (not recommended because it's expensive) or just by doing other non fishing activities e.g. chopping trees. or, you can build a fish pond throw a fish in, by collecting product u get exp
if you befriend linus, he also has a chance to send you 2 fishes required for the cc bundle, catfish and largemouthbass

bats can be nice for cc, but it's not a guarantee too esp. if u depending on it for fodder in y1 fall cc it's just safer to plant the tree urself

mushrooms - energy source, sure, but there are plenty of alternatives
profit? - ehh
dehydrator? - not expensive to craft, 1 is nice to have but not impactful imo

||staircases + bombs are the best way to prep for sc. good prep can help a lot even if you're not very confident in combat!

to get more staircases, duplicate jades for crystalariums, and every sunday you'd be able to trade jades for staircases at the desert trader. 5 quartz for 1 bomb can also be traded there.

go early, on a max luck day, it will be easier for you to find staircases/shafts, bring spicy eels (trade rubies w desert trader, available everyday), and triple shot espresso (trade diamonds w desert trader, available everyday)
healing food options that people recommend are salads, cheese. if you don't have access to these 2 then i'll give other alternatives as well. bring your bombs, don't waste too much time slaying enemies, focus on getting as deep as you can and just bombing ores.

to get there early, bring your spare omnigeodes to the desert and trade for a warp totem.||

my take on this is - for sdv as a game which has been out for quite some time, there's a few things that has been tried and tested, at the end of the day it's still up to you but people do some stuff for a reason XD

"even if broke, do sc" is what i tend to say a lot haha

later on when u're not starving for resources then u can be more selective for when u choose to do ur trips

trade ur omnigeodes for desert totems beforehand so u can go bright and early
bring spicy eels (trade w rubies at desert trader), triple shot espressos (trade w diamonds), healing foods such as salads or cheese, stairs if u have them (trade jades for them on sundays only), bombs - u don't have to precraft everything, u can always craft as u go

alternatively trading quartz for bomb is also decent (5 quartz = 1 bomb, available everyday)||

some people e.g. play the joja route - they spend all of their efforts on money making, so they don't do much else, so yes, they make a lot, but then it's a more singular focus so it's not strange if they can make more
some play cc route, and have to dedicate time to go and fulfil cc bundles so moneymaking isnt really a sole focus there (these are just 2 rough examples but u get my point, there's more nuance there)
so what is "good" really depends on ur own expectations

corditetv (youtuber) made 82M in 1 year but that was in 1.5? iirc, and with a lot of non-casual strategies if that's what you're asking
