If you start with the livestock farm, Im pretty sure eggs are a universal like (apart from one or two villagers tho I cant remember which) and since you start with two chickens it's easier to give them out.

Oh yeah for fishing there are legendary fish that you can catch each season, there can only be 1 of each legendary fish each save file so i'd personally keep it

cc fish bundles and fish smoker are 2 different things, you can get a fish smoker from either the prize machine (1 per save file, and random, u might get a dehydrator instead) OR buy the recipe from willy at 10k gold then craft it yourself OR start on riverland farm

sea jelly is one of the options, another one is trout soup from willy (he always sells it), you can also check gus's dish of the day, other dishes are like fish tacos/dish of the sea/lobster bisque (but the others can be more expensive)

training rod is 1 recommendation because of the level 5 fishing bar + trap bobber effect it comes with, but you cannot get quality fish with it - so it is really just for you to get more comfortable with fishing

if you are in spring, fish at the mountain lake for exp - you can get carps and bullheads there, they are easy and can help you accumulate exp
when raining, you can fish at the river for catfish but this is only for profit - because they are tricky to catch, especially at lower levels

if you really struggle with fishing, after you've gotten the bamboo rod, if you have not reached level 1 fishing by the end of spring, willy will also come give you 1 level for free.

iridium rod is only available at level 6 onwards, you can use 1 bobber with it, i recommend trap bobber

fiberglass rod is available at level 2 onwards for sale, 1.8k, it's a very worthy investment because bait is gamechanging in terms of fish bite rate which in other words, speeds up your levelling process

last but not least, if you decide that you don't want to fish ever again, there are 3 other ways for you to level up fishing - though some might be slower than others. e.g. by completing the crab pot bundle in cc, you can get 3 free crab pots - this doesn't require fishing. or you can read the 'bait and bobber' skill book, and u can get this book by buying from bookseller (not recommended because it's expensive) or just by doing other non fishing activities e.g. chopping trees. or, you can build a fish pond throw a fish in, by collecting product u get exp

if you befriend linus, he also has a chance to send you 2 fishes required for the cc bundle, catfish and largemouthbass

but i just go for just stardew valley expanded (the mod itself) and it's still a fun journey, adds a lot to especially the mid and late game, but isn't too overwhelming because the game starts you off with introducing just a few npcs early on, then gradually adds u more stuff
