I'm on year 6 and I've never used a fence. Just plant like a 4x4 for now until you have better farming level, and then fish the rest of the day. Or maybe start with fish so you have an energy source.

Depending on your biome, you may want to put a couple flooring in front of the bridges, just so you don't have to clutter your inventory with every tool.

Prevents the animals from wandering too far, and I think the wiki said it prevents the grass from spreading, so if you were to plant a bunch of starters for the animals to feed on ect

you can also craft it, if you have been to the mines, using bugmeat, it's one of the earliest fishing recipes
but if u buy it from willy only 5 gold a piece so it's still a good buy
if you are having some trouble with catfish, u can consider buying the trout soup that willy sells, it helps increase ur fishing level for a period of time, and during that time ur fishing bar increases

it's a bit pricey (99 stones), but if you are a level 2 and can craft staircases, it's nice to have a spare on hand, in case things get dangerous (at least i like to have 1)

Killing bugs are good though for insect head weapon, better upgrade in weapon means easier time killing/surviving

sorry i wasn't too accurate, a workbench is helpful for organizing because u can just put chests around it and dump all materials there, and when u need to craft stuff it will automatically pull from surrounding chests, so u don't need to properly organize everything*

sounds like a good plan! my most recent save is a playthrough with stardew valley expanded (before my meadowlands new farm) and i used the recommended farm type for that content mod
there's plenty of other modded farm types too (for ur future playthroughs), e.g. tiny farm
QoL there's more drastic ones e.g. skip fishing mini game, elevators for that place, etc.
but also simpler ones that e.g. tells u how much xp u've earned
