I followed that tip to place grass underneath a fence so it keeps propagating into the area, but will this be enough? Do I need to worry about continually planting more grass?

That is how minimal having more casks would effect perfection. That is if you even used casks as main money. Plus doing deep skull cavern to sell iridium bars in mass having legendary fish ponds. You can easily make 10 million in the first 2 years. More casks only speeds up how fast you achieve that
