Honestly, it really doesn’t mean you’re trash at this game. Stardew also isn’t really a game to compare your save to others/see someone else as doing better or worse than you. Everyone has different playstyles, areas of focus, parts of the game they enjoy or dislike, and experience levels. Each save can look very different, but not better or worse.

Also, it’s generally more recommended to take it slow and relaxed and chill if it’s your first playthrough. There is no time limit or rush with anything. If it takes you 29 in game years to restore the community center (or to romance someone, or whatever else), that’s totally fine. Jodi wants a cauliflower? She won’t be upset if she has to wait 4+ years for you to give her one. etc

Some people enjoy rushing and minmaxing and trying to optimize everything. Other people don’t. You mentioned you don’t like rushing. There is absolutely no pressure or need to rush/minmax in Stardew, and it’s not better (or worse) than a slow and relaxed playthrough.

I don't particularly know what a good layout means to you because Stardew is a game to be tailored to everyone's different tastes

Some people consider a good layout something cute and others consider it something efficient for example

Of course there can be mixes but usually one will be at least slightly valued over the other

For example my farm is a bit inefficient in favour of being pretty

So firstly to get a "good layout" you'd need to decide what's most important to you!
