whereas if you plant them at the halfway point of spring, you will only get 2 harvests.

however, at year 1, you will need as much gold as you can get, and year 2 you will most likely have other ways of getting gold

Essentially? Basically the game has an order in which it checks fish (and ties are ordered randomly) and each fish has a chance of getting hooked when it catches. Trash has 100% chance but is at the very back of the list
