If you want to withraw a bunch, you actually want the feeding bench to be empty, and you'll them take out as much hay as is needed to feed your animals. (you can do this repeatidly to empty the silo)

Forest is pretty and has forageables, I'll say the main perk is regrowable hardwood early game

Standard will have way more land than forest

You can also consider upgrading your watering can on days directly before rain (if no sprinklers currently).
The reasoning is because upgrading time takes 2 days (includes the day the tool was submitted), and since rain automatically waters your crops, you won't be burdened.

Normally people go
Pickaxe (mines)
Watering Can/Axe (watering/community centre hardwood if you don't use mines hardwood)
Hoe (less often)

Personally I go Pickaxe Axe Hoe and save the can upgrade for winter, going up to silver or gold straightaway

The reason hoe is less important is if you plant a cheap crop on the last day and let it die, the plot stays tilled

i don't really upgrade my hoe until i've upgraded my pickaxe and axe at least twice. you get ||a golden scythe from the quarry after unlocking the minecarts||

Fish and farm a lot, don't go caving unless absolutely necessary

You can access the ||Quarry|| using minecarts, yes.
But that's not how you unlock the ||Quarry|| itself.
