Grey rocks give more stone and a chance at coal
some rocks have gems in them
Some have ores like copper and iron

Underneath some rocks you'll find a ladder, you can use that to decend a floor. Every 5 floors you'll find an elevator that can take you back there

In the regular mine I mine all nodes, smash all barrels, and kill all monsters on each floor. I only break rocks if they're in the way or the ladder hasn't spawned yet.

Oh, or if I need them for a specific building, but I'm on Hilltop so I'm generally not short of Stone.

I don't know if it's a mechanic or random, but I've noticed if an off-screen bat flies in while I'm hunting for the staircase, they seem to spawn the ladder more often than not. Don't fight fair, pin enemies into corners and go to town on them, remember weapon-swings are stamina-free

Only seel one geode. If you want to try and reach for something.
One geode, one frozen geode, one lava geode, one omni geode. But even then if you don't want to fill out the collections tab I wouldn't worry about it.

Most of that is worth holding onto, the Amathyst is worth good dosh, though you may want to give one to Gunther. But the wood, ore, stone, sap, and seeds are worth little in terms of cash.

So yes, for Hilltop navigation makes you want Copper Axe and Pickaxe earlier than other tools, because having to zig-zag around is pain

Spacious, i get some sea forage and forest forage in that little area. I don't need THAT much space for crops so the little plot at the bottom and the greenhouse is enough for me

and when i get an iron axe i get a healthy supply of hardwood to start me off
