Is seeding fruit more profitable than outright buying? If I have 50 seeds and plant them, I get 50 fruit back, put 10 in the seed maker and say get 20 back. Then I buy 50 more and plant them plus I plant the 10 from first round, and the 10 free seeds I got. Then that means I have 40 + 50 + 20. So 110 sold. Is this more profitable than outright just buying 110? I do understand it might be more time consuming, but I am trying to figure out if it is cheaper.

And the reason why I disagree and say this is not more profitable is because in that scenario, there is a change in which you are comparing planting 50 + 50 without the seedmaker to planting 50 + 70 (two growths) the 2nd time.

However, if you're going through the effort to plant, grow, and preserve 70 starfruit the second time them just buying 70 seeds instead will make you more money than withholding 10 fully grown (and to-be-preserved) starfruit from the first growth to add to the 50 purchased seeds. Then you don't have that loss from buying 50 seeds and selling only 40 preserves from the 1st growth.

Without the seedmaker, it's 50 bought, 50 sold (1st growth), then 50 bought and 50 sold (2nd growth).
With the seedmaker it would be 50 bought, 40 sold, 50 bought, 70 sold.

...But that's not an even comparison.

Instead, sell all 50 the first time, then buy 70 for the 2nd growth, and you are now comparing these:

To make it equivalent that way, Compare:
Without seedmaker:
1st growth: buy 50 starfruit seeds, sell 50 starfruit preserves
2nd growth: buy 70 starfruit seeds, sell 70 starfruit preserves

I think Starry is discounting that they are losing out on the sale from not selling in the first growth, and is focusing on the fact that you don't lose the seeds.

..but what you lose by putting 10 seeds in the seed-maker after the first growth is the profit of (10 seeds x $2000 = $20,000 minus the cost of the seeds in the 1st place (10 seeds x $400 = $4000) for a loss of ($20,000 - $4000 =) $16,000 profit.

That $16,000 that's lost could have been just 10 seeds bought for $4000. That's where the loss is: not selling the 10 in the 1st growth.
