It's tough for a lot of people to get the hang of. And something the die-hard fishing fanatics even refuse to acknowledge is that it's made harder still at lower levels. Gaining experience and fishing levels helps by increasing the size of the fishing bar. To that end, you can always make life easier on yourself by using the Training Rod to start out, which increases the size of your fishing bar to a level 4 equivalent, with the downside of only being able to catch regular fish. But catching something is better than catching nothing.
And don't be discouraged from using fishing buff foods, and, eventually, good baits and the right tackle, by the unhelpful trolls who yell "git gud" and "I can catch legendaries with a bamboo rod one hand stuck up my butt".
Seriously, there are tools out there to make the experience easier and more enjoyable for you. You really should use them.

best thing you can do at first year ifarming wise is get enough money to make to buy plently of strawberries at 13th, finish the smol bundle of "provide spring crops" which gives "Speed-Gro" that you can use on Strawberries which would increase the yield count by 1 imho
