Part of it is that you can complete everything there is to do by year 5 if you try hard enough. Not everyone completes the game in that time, though. My last two saves reached year 14.
But consider also that a new save opens up new opportunities to do something different. You can try a new farm layout, for starters, and that can change so much about how you play. Choose a different spouse, a different strategy, have different priorities.
Every game is going to be different; how different is entirely up to you.

By "Completion", I mean completing ||that checklist of game goals that can't be mentioned here"||, which most people hold up as the end of the game. But it's not really the end, and hasn't been for me.
You can make your own goals and keep going. You can just chill and keep playing on a farm you've grown to love because you've put so much care and detail into it.
There is no one way to play, and there's no one way to "end" the game, and it need not even end at all if you don't want it to.

If you failed to prepare by crafting lots of lightning rods before that first summer. Like 18-24 or so. Everything you need for them can be found on levels 41-79 of the Mines. Iron. Bat Wings. Quartz you can smelt into Refined Quartz. Coal for all the smelting.
I realize it's not something a new player would know, but I always advise them to spend a little time grinding on 41-79 for just that reason.

sorry if this sounds rantey/negative or rude, but i just gotta vent... feel free to ignore... but bloody hell, i hate if games do not recognize any layout other than the typical qwerty US layout. I can not easiely use the last two slots in my toolbar because i have a german keyboard which has different buttons after the 0 and i can not bind those to the 11th and 12th inventory slots because they supposedly are already used, which causes me to not be able to switch to them via a button press...

I am enjoying the game ALOT so far, even tho i got no bloody clue what i am "supposed" to do, but that really frustrates the sh** out of me right now (especially since my autistic brain decided that it for some reason would be a good thing to hyperfocus on and does not let me just ignore it...)
