Once you have enough machines to your liking. Enough kegs to make you lots of money. Enough crystalariums to dupe jades. Enough tappers, enough furnaces, enough of everything you need ores to make.
Just how much is enough will vary from person to person.
But I look at it this way: If you sell a bar of iron, gold or iridium, you get paid once. If you use it to make a machine, you get paid every few days forever.
Selling bars early game is very shortsighted.

Basically an animal has to stand on a tile of grass if it wants to eat it.
A lightning rod or fencepost occupying that grass tile, will stop the animal from being able to enter that tile... But the grass can still spread outward

This is known as a Grass Feeder
