Anyway, if you're playing on 1.6 I recommend going fruit bats because there are other ways to get mushrooms reliably in the game. If you're on 1.5, it's really preference, but fruit bats can help you complete the community center faster. Mushrooms are a good source of money/energy early game on that version of the game.

Let's say seaweed only spawns if the RNG rolls a 1, just as a hypothetical for the sake of the conversation. If there is only one other spawn that can happen if the RNG rolls a 2, then the chance for seaweed to spawn would be 50/50. If, however, there are 4 other spawns, one for each if the RNG rolls a 2, 3, 4, and 5, then the RNG for the seaweed itself didn't change, but now it's 20%, because now you have other valid options.

RNG in software isn't "I'm gonna enter a % and that's how it's gonna go". Particularly in the case of video games, RNG is basically throwing dice, and different values of the dice lead to different outcomes.
